My G1 boots straight into the rainbow screen, then the grey screen comes up and says not allowed, and switches back to the rainbow screen again. it wont do anything else. is there any ways i can get it back to normal?
thats really a lot of help for us. is your phone rooted? where you trying to root it? is your camera button stuck? What all have you tried to solve this?
i was trying to root it.. I tried to run the dreamimg.imf file and after it got throught the install the radio check came up fail and it failed the update, and hasnt allowed me to move out of the program since.

i have never heard of a dreamimg.imf file. are you sure you don't mean DREAIMG.nbh? what part of the world are you in? is your sdcard formatted to fat32?
yes thats the one i meant. sorry. im in the uk, and my sd card is fat32 yes.
is it the only file on your sdcard and is it explicitly named DREAIMG.nbh? also did you grab the rc-7 file from this thread?
I am having the exact same issue. I am currently on RC7 but somehow last night I redownloaded the incorrect version and it ended up to be RC29 and it worked?
I am really confused because I went wrong somewhere along the steps and I didnt transfer the update.zip so I can create the EXT3/swap so everytime I booted up it saysed on the Tmobile G1 loading screen so I had to start again.
RC29 only seems to work for me, RC7 is total ballache trying to get root.
I really woudl liek some help, I dont wnat to be defeated.
huh?
Your post confused me brad, so are you using rc29 or rc7, can you get into the recovery console, have you booted up, where are you stuck at, need more information and a little bit clearer

My first few attempts have been with RC7. Here is where I get with RC7 - I type telnetd into terminal emulator and then telnet from my windows PC (connected to my router an dusing local IP) and run the commands such as mount -o remount r,w etc etc. I complete these steps and then try to a SU command. When I do this it then says permission denied.
Now, I tried to flash to RC29 and tried the above again, it worked but I missed a step through it being late and loosing concentration so I reflashed back to RC7 and then tried to flash to RC29. When I try to reflash to RC29 it says error.
I have no idea how I got RC29 to work before but it doesn't work now? :S
Hmmm, try downloading telnet from market and then use telnet from your phone, type telnetd on your home screen than open up telnet and follow the directions from there or let your phone get the over the air updates and then do the step rooting once it is up to date. If you are in the uk than rc29 should have not loaded for you, I might be wrong but why would there be 2 different versions then. But in any case you might have missed a step in your rooting process so give it a shot and try again. You will have root in terminal if you see a # when you type su and hit enter. Once you reboot your phone you will lose root so make sure you get a recovery image in there when you have it
After I reread your first post I have a ? Are you opening the term emu and typing telnetd into that or are you typing it on your home screen where it will pop up a contact search, u need to do it on your home screen

Im typing it in terminal. This should have the same effect?
I will try again tonight (8th-9th time) once I get home but the icons are so different compared to the RC29 and RC7.
There are so many videos which are US and use RC29 and none which use RC7 so I cannot compare my phone to theres. On RC29 you get the black and white logo on start up but on RC7 you get the glossy G1 with the purple tmobile logo. WHich may suggest that the RC7 is protected from being jail breaked?
I guess there is an RC6 or lower which I could try?
ALL I WANT IS HERO LOL!!
Cheers guys
Rc7 is the lowest image you can get, rc29 is the same thing almost but they have different radio images which is why u need rc7, u must type telnetd on the home screen because the orignal version of android had a security loop hole which has given us root in the first place where everything you typed on the phone would also repeat it self in telnet, by typing telnet d you are telling the system to give u acess when you open up telnet, once you get acess in telnet then you can use term emu to flash the recovery image
Thanks for your help.
I press enter twice then type telnetd. I am connected to my works WiFi. I go onto a telnet app and connect to localhost and port 23. I says there is an error connecting to 127.0.0.1? I have tried the local IP too and it says connection refused.
Thanks
I am gonna make it real easy for you, in this thread there is a guy who has a link in his sig for my step root, click on it and follow the instructions, the link to the apk is in that link to another guide, let your phone sit for the day and wait till it gives you the option to update ota after you get that you will be back up to the newest software including the newest radio, after you get that than follow the one step, yes it does work I just tried it, it will flash a recovery image onto your phone and from there you can flash a rooted rom and also the danger spl and call it a day and you will be good to go, and you can do it from your work's wi-fi, if you are impatient and don't want to wait for the updates than you can just download a radio image from link inside a hero rom thread and do it that way just make sure that you have the radio image flashed on your phone before the spl or you will brick
my problem is, i can get in to my sd card to check what files are on there, or put anything different on, because it boots straight into that rainbow screen and stays there, checks my sd card for the DREAIMG.nbh and then says "not allow" and goes back to the rainbow screen. i assume the only way to fix this would be to have a card reader?
when you pull battery and boot it goes to bootloader?
yup. cant gwt out of it.
Hello everyone,
I have a rooted g1 and I was putting on the 2.1 rom on my phone. I was following a guys instruction off of youtube but it totally messed my phone up. Now its stuck on the pitcure with the open box pointing a yellow arrow on the phone right next to it(the update screen), what do I do??? Thanks for your help.
You dont even have root then...If it shows what i think your taking about....You should follow this simple enough my little brother(7yr) could master it:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-root-the-mytouch-3g-or-g1-in-one-click/
no i have root access i already had about 5 other roms on there but this guy said that you need a radio update sign. the guys site is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfPI9Qdagd0&feature=related

That gives bricks applying radio after having root is pointless.

Ahh you might brick, you seem to have flashed the Radio made for HTC hero not G1....Notice the title: "How to get Android 2.1 on HTC Hero"
To use Hero 2.1 on G1 it shows it here @ XDA, you only needed Haykuro SPL and the 26I radio/
If rec mode is working then you arent brick or if you can get into bootloader.
how do i get in rec mode or bootloader
Hold down home when turning on the phone=recovery
Hold down camera button while powering on= bootloader
If you can't get into either one of those, likely bricked. I know with WM devices flashing a radio for another phone is one of the fastest ways to brick your phone, Android seems to be much more forgiving, so hopefully you will be lucky and if recovery and bootloader don't work, you can possibly get ADB to work.
If you don't figure out how to do this BEFORE you do it, you will likely brick your phone, if not sooner, soon enough. Doing it along with a video isn't enough to make sure you won't brick your phone.
Read through the steps of rooting, flashing a basic, stock ROM, do that a time or two, and then get into the more up-to-date stuff.
Your method of going about a new task is going to... well, it isn't going to work, unless you are really, really lucky.
here is the deal , you will forever be my hero if you can help me out here
so i buy a g1 off of fleabay for a price that you guys would crap over (30$) it was bricked which i already knew , followed somebodys "how to" and got it goin . i am sure you know where i am going by now
i cant stand the F'in firmware thats in it after having a G1 with donut ( screen keeps tweaking out on me , thats on another thread) , i have been playing with the thing for a few days but for some reason i cant make it do what the "how to's" say it should do when trying to install 1.6 manually .
thanks in advance,
monty
i am not a dummy , i am just missing something here and you guys/girls can probably point it out
Can you enter to recovery (power + home)? can you enter to fastboot (power + camera buttom)? If so, its not bricked. If not, you can try this and see if it works, if not, its bricked.

He's saying that the phone is working, he just dosnt like the firmware its on, I think... You should provide some more info:
Do you have root?
What version of andriod?
Recovery, SPL version etc
Before you start flashing and such, I have one question: Are you 100% sure it is a G1, for T-Mobile, made by HTC? The reason I ask is because eBay is FLOODED with G1 clones, and are even using G1 in the eBay Auction Title to make it look that much more realistic.
The easiest way to tell if it is a real G1 is if its screen slides out to reveal a keyboard, and if it says 'htc' on the upper left side of the phone.
i have had a g1 for about 6 months and the touch screen started tripping out on me , so i bought this phone for 30$ and figured if nhothing else i could turn my bronze g1 into a black one and replace the screen that is wacked out.
i have tried and tried and tried to update the phone , i got it to root after 6 different root code downloads . i found a site that has all the links to get up to 1.6 donut , i got my pc running through the admin. account , renaming files properly but keep getting
finding update package ...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:No signature (413 files) another time it was (302 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
if i try to do "apply any zip from card" get the same thing
i know its a g1 , i am pretty smart just need a little guidance cause like i said i know i am just missing something
the boot screen says
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO- 1.22.12.29
SEP 2 2008
seria10 ( or serial0 ? )
top to bottom red , green , blue and white
i took the pic with one of my other G1 mobiles that has donut
home+power= pic @ bottom
The ROM you are trying to flash is not signed properly. Try throwing us a bone, and telling use a bit more info, like what ROM are you trying to flash? Are you rooted for sure? What method did you use? Links would be great! And so forth... basically, we should see something like this:
ROM: Michael Jackson Lives 2.24.18 and a Link
Root Method: Link to Walk Through
Radio: X.XX.XX
SPL: XXXXX and a link
Recovery Image: CM 1.4/Armon's RA 1.XXXXX
Plus a couple paragraphs explaining what you have done so far; ie I got to step 8 of the walk through...
so i waited a few days after installing the original spl http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=137382&d=1229311457 (successful) and the other original flash ROM i installed correctly i believe as it went back to the yellow letters from the green when i had it rooted .
i played with the pc and the g1 for like 10 hrs. straight , managed to brick it twice , managed to return it to useable condition . does anyone have the links to convert from 1.0 - RC29 all the way to 1.6 donut ? there is a certain order as builds dont seem to be compatibll upgradeable. from 1.0 to 1.5 or 1.6 and then the new 2.1 mid-feb.
tmobile says they cannot push an ota to a single device and it is done automatically off of your serial/imei # through a processor that keeps track of devices and updates them accordingly . the only reason that made sense to me of why i haven't received any updates is that the device has already received the updates once and they do not get pushed through ota more than once maybe.
right now device is all back to original setting after unbricking
i used this site http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unbrick
and for some reason when i rename files and then transfer the file to sd it just never seems to work to install upgrades onto device . i need help , i know just enough to be dangerous but i just need some guidance
the pics shown arethe phone i want to update to all newest software or just go crazy and mod the hell out of it
i noticed the home+power screen is a little different than when i tried to install upgrades on the device before . it used to read alt+s install /sdcard/update.zip
this link finally worked http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
device is perfect now
phone was bricked , unbricked per this http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/DREAIMG-RC29.zip , tried to push all the updates through (home+power>alt+l>alt+s) and nothing worked , pull my hair out !! , after 10hrs i finally figured something out , the recovery screen showed install/sdcard/update.zip , thats not what you wanna see , i ended up doing everything else mentioned above and then i finally found a link to dowmload original spl and original bootloader http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip BOOM !!! the recovery screen showed install sdcard:update.zip
i proceeded to put all these upgrades in the phone in this order
http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip
http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/signed-kila-CRC1-from-CRB43-FIX.7ca4a1d7.zip
http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/signed-kila-DRC83-from-CRC1.c41b93c1.zip
device is perfect and all factory now , all for 30$
heh for 30 dollars you got yourself a nice deal on a softbrick, wish there were more idiots in the world who sold them like that D:
I rooted my G1 last night and have yet been able to load a Rom on it.
my radio is 2.22.19261
and I do not know how to check what my spl is. also when I try to install the newest spl to make sure I have it Im not sure how to install it since when I boot up pressing home and power it goes to RA-dream-v1.5.2. not sure how to do the update from here.
The 3 Roms I have tried so far are:
-FastTest2.4.1
-SuperD193-blk-WGKv3beta
-MLIGN-HeroV3.3
fasttest and superD get failure at line 59
MLIGN-Hero gets failure at line 80
So is there something I'm missing somewhere and if its the spl can someone point me in the right direction to update it??
Im still researching, but a lil help would be apprieciated and amazing
It shows the SPL version in your first screenshot. The SPL you need to load the roms you listed is in my signature.
You should be able to flash the SPL without problems because you meet the radio requirement already.
thanks.. I was just logging in to say I already got it figured out..
I thought I still had to rename the spl as update and then get the phone to boot to it wick i couldnt figure out how to do after I rooted it.
I booting it to recovery and then choose to Flash zip from sdcard.. choosing the spl I loaded on the sdcard
Works great now.. im testing out FastTest2.4.1 right now
Thanks again

I'm going to be nice this time but next time make sure you read on how to root your phone and install either HardSPL or EngSPL. Do not flash Haykuro's/Death/Danger because you'll likely brick your phone (since your first post has such an obvious answer)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Hello,
I tried flashing this ROM. Something went wrong, not quite remember what - I think it was the verification.
As a result (I had to wipe before installing), my screen got stuck on the G1 screen. I followed these instructions, and installed the linked DREAIMG-RC29.zip. When I rebooted my phone, I was asked to sign in to my Google account, an operation which failed because I'm not on an Internet plan (3G).
I tried installing other ROMs but they all failed for one reason or another - mostly verification issues. I have no idea why, I've rooted my phone and everything.
In any case, I'd like to use a newer version of Android whatsoever, so logging in isn't really the problem (although right now it is because I cannot use the phone).
Thank you for your help.
Sound like you are not rooted yet. You cannot flash custom ROM if you are not rooted. Follow the instruction from the link below and your G1 will be rooted flashed with your custom ROM:

It shows the red-green-blue-white screen, then turns grey, "Checking" => "Not allow" and then back to the red-green-blue-white.
Edit: Well, if I don't do that, I can still install update.zip (step 2). Then I'm stuck in the same problem (can't sign in Google). Tried looking in the "2~By-pass Google sign-in" but I don't really understand what's going on; how to get that ADB and what do I do then?

Thanks for the find but I'm afraid it doesn't work either :\
It gets stuck at the "Click "Get SD Card Serial from WINCE Device"" step, the program just stops working. :\
Well, I think I've made some progress, realizing that one of the steps I've done trying to fix the pgone must have unrooted it. I couldn't find a way to root it back as I cannot bypass the log in phase. Can anybody please help me with that?
Yes, when you did that you just unrooted your G1.

You are starting up your phone in "flash-mode" (power + cam) and you have a *.nbh file on your SD-card -> flashing of this nbh file is started when powering up the phone, but ... you do not have a goldcard or a wrongly signed *.nbh file, so flashing is interrupted.
You need a Goldcard to flash a different ROM on your phone when you are not rooted resp. do not have a SPL on your phone which accepts ROMs signed with test keys.
Could you please explain a bit further on? I don't know what a Goldcard is and can't find a good answer online.
Dankeschön!
You cannot find informations about a Goldcard? You may have a look at Goldcard.
