[Q] Droid1 Root Tools not working on 2.2.2 - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

I'm new to rooting my phone. I'm pretty technical, but admittedly just following directions via the sticky threads. I want to wireless tether with Barnacle (catalyst is I have a Viewsonic gTablet on the way.) Anyhow...
I have tried SuperOneClick and z4root. They both generate a variety of errors. I guess my question is, are there known issues with 2.2.2? Support shows Droid1 support for 2.2.1. Maybe it just plain don't work.
I've read about NAND locks. Maybe VZW is doing something to prevent a proper root? If they are, I'm surprised the community hasn't overcome that!
Thanks in advance.

I used the SuperOneClick method... what errors does it say for you?

Does 1-click root still work w/mt3g???

I know for a fact that 1-click root does not work for G1, I was just wondering if the fix was also done for the mt3g. My educated guess, would be yes, but I just want to hear confirmation. If I can't use the 1-click method, does anyone have an alternative besides the really long method. Basically, I'm trying to root my co-workers mt3g, from work. I don't have access to adb, fastboot, etc. I root a lot of my co-workers G1's, never did mt3g.
P.S. I have posted this question under sapphire > general, but no one is responding. It's all about that dream (g1). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
...anyone?

[Q] General rooting questions

Hello. You all are great. I have read the faq and other threads but have not seen my questions clearly answered. Forgive me, but I am a noob and nervous. I have some general questions. I want to root but not flash a new rom. There are several programs I want that require rooting, e.g. keep lights on, non-market apps, tethering. How great is the risk to have just a rooted phone, no new rom, and continue normal daily use? Superone click has rooting and unrooting. Does unrooting to install any AT&T updates cause problems. I envision rooting, loading a couple of programs and leaving it alone. If I root must it remain rooted after installing the programs for them to operate. Or, can I root, install programs, and then unroot? Again, thanks for all your help.
Rooting is non-destructive. If a program requires root to install, it likely requires it to run as it will need to access superuser permissions. If you remove root those programs will no longer run. Rooting is probably the most basic mod you can do to your phone. I've heard of it failing, but I've not seen anyone damage or brick their phone with it. Do it and forget it. It should have no effect on any future updates as they will probably come via Kies Mini and not OTA, but I doubt we'll see any more. You should update to stock Froyo 2.2 before you root.

I used the all in one. You can find it in the development forum.

Thank you. I looked at the all in one option and I have to say it appears daunting and a bit intimidating. Is it necessary simply for rooting? It seems to be aimed at those wishing to replace the roms. I have read rather a bunch on all of these methods. I am leaning towards z4root or superoneclick. Any opinions/advice regarding these or others is appreciated. I read somewhere that for superoneclick for the ATT captivate one needs to chnge to rage against the cage from psneuter. Is that correct?
The change to rage is only if you are already on stock Froyo. Super 1-click works fine for Eclair.
Super one click..as easy as it sounds

Super 1 click works fine for Froyo as well. I used it when I test drove official 2.2. It was a earlier version though (1.51). Not sure if that made a difference.

need help rootin

so i had root on my moto droid back befor the 2.2 through z4 root
but afterword... z4 just sorta stopped working, and iv lived without root now for a while but i dont want to anymore, i wanna overclock sooo bad again.
so my question is, has anyone released another z4 ish 1 touch root solution that will work in this post 2.2 world??
A lot of people around here use "Easy Root". Unfortunately it's not free, but you can get it as low as a $.99 to get full access.
By far it's the cleanest Root/Unroot that I used for any of my Android phones. Works on both Droid and Milestone and does work on Froyo. If you end up going that route, you'll probably be best doing a factory restore before starting to help clean up whatever Z4Root left over.
If you still want to go the Z4 Route, I got nothing but still wish you the best...
have you looked over here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912490
they also mention Universal Androot
I used SuperOneClick found here at XDA, and my root was painless. It took about 2 minutes.
thanks for the help so far... but
neither z4 or androot worked for my droid...
idk if there is a difference between milestone and droid, but neither of them workedd both said failed.
any other ideas??
There is always the possibility to root manualy. I have a milestone (not droid) - Don't know if this also applies to you.
You have to flash your a vulnerable recovery via RSD Lite and root via OpenRecovery (Androidian). More info here:

Rooting the original Moto Droid, guide?

Is there a one-click rooting solution for the Droid? What's the best way?
edit: is this the best?

How to Root
I am sure you know what I previously posted since you have so many posts so as far as 1 click im not sure I do it the old school way.
I did the oldschool adb way too. I had no idea there was a one-click method, but I'm also wary of general roots like that, mostly unfounded.

[Q] Alltel Hero Root Questions

Hi, all. My issue is pretty specific to another thread in your forums, so I feel odd about "getting" my own thread just for it, but I tried to post in the relevant thread, and I was asked to post in Q&A instead, so here goes...
I have an Alltel CDMA HTC Hero running stock, never rooted, with the following:
2.42.01.04.23 Baseband
2.33.556.1 Build/Software
I'm not too wary of trying, for example, z4root just for that purpose, but I admit that I'm basically terrified of the whole flashing procedure. My ultimate goal is to get to CyanogenMod, and also store apps on my SD Card. I came across the "RegawMOD Hero Rooter v1.3" in the forums here, and it looks like exactly what I want--nice and automated. My worry is that it says "Successful in rooting all builds up to 2.31.651.7." I'm also wary of the downgrade to 2.xx procedure, mostly due to the Sprint vs. Alltel issue. I've jailbroken an iPod Touch dozens of times (brought it back from the brink of what looked like death several of those times), but this being my phone, I'm a great deal more paranoid, but still determined to give it a go.
Anyway...I don't really have a precise question. I mostly want to know if I'm out of luck with the 2.33 Build + Alltel issue. I'd be hugely appreciative if anyone could give some detailed advice on which Root tool to use, or specifically if the RegawMOD Hero Rooter v1.3 would work with my device as is. If not, I'd be very grateful for really specific, n00b-friendly instructions for downgrading as needed. I have searched and looked at all threads I could find that were related, and checked each page of the aforementioned app's thread, but could not find what I needed. I've also looked at all of the "major one-click" root tools, including heroroot010.apk. Thanks so much!
