I JUST NOW realized there is an HTCSetupWizard.apk and a SetupWizard.apk.
Does anyone know if we need both of these?
I'm gonna try removing one and re-flashing to see what happens
Let us know. I think one is for the initial phone setup. I removed the HTC one and nothing bad happened. Atleast not that I know of.
I can confirm that without either of the setup.apk's a fresh rom flash will loop at the point that a setup program is supposed to run
well, I couldn't get a fresh flash to work with just the SetupWizard.apk (the smaller one). I gave up on it as I was also having trouble with some other stuff I was trying to achieve.
At the suggestion of someone who is much smarter than me I looked in my build.prop and found 3 instances, all toward the bottom, of the following line: ro.setupwizard.mode=
2 of them said =DISABLED and one said =OPTIONAL
Anyone know how to use these lines as they are intended? I did a very small amount of searching, it was late.
I havent tried using just the HTCSetupWizard.apk w/o the SetupWizard.apk so that may work, not sure yet.

My Guess as to why there are two:
1st HTC setupwizard is the initial setup that you see when you boot the phone. The 2nd setup wizzard is the GMail setup that you enter when you setup your gmail account. Then it goes back to the HTC one when setting up Exchange, Fbook, and Twitter...
Just my theory from going through that process oh I don't know 2.5 million times in 7 months.

Can you still report that removing HTCSetupWizard.apk has no effect on the phone?
Can you still go into settings - accounts - and enter facebook, twitter, flicker, and gmail account information.
This is a build I put together yesterday... It's basically stock ROM with the bloatware removed along with most sense elements... I'm working on a more pure vanilla, but builds thus far are really unstable. This build has been stable on my phone- with the exception of Rosie Utility FC at startup that I can't figure out since Rosie is gone. Wifi tether is enabled, google apps are included, su and busybox are installed and working, and I'm using launcher2 for now. Try it out and see what you think- nothing special, but it's something to play with until the pros release something great...
link removed- see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713316 for newest work...
I am getting major force closes on every thing when it boots up. Am I doing anything wrong. The only ROM I can get to work is the cyan test rom.
Acore is one of the force close but there are many when it boots.
did you wipe before install? I haven't had these problems... so it's hard to tell you what's going on- sorry it's not working for you though...
I did do a wipe but not sure if I am doing it right. It does seem like it is installing both roms. What is the best way to wipe?
In clockwork recovery select wipe data/factory reset... then wipe cache partition.
Yeah I finally got to wipe. Thanks for the help
Any chance you will get a version of this with the stock android dialer and phone.apk (i.e. like the Nexus One)?
That's where I'm headed eventually... I'm trying to figure out how to get nexus over to the inc, but the gsm/cdma thing is busting my ass... So far I have it loading with working hardware, but it won't join the damn network...

just to help out, from experimenting with rom building myself i came across this:
Search the XDA-developers forum for "Safely remove Rosie.apk on FreshToast 1.1?" (I cannot post a link because its a new account sorry)
its meant for the HTC Hero BUT it explains that you want to get rid of HtcAddProgramWidget.apk to make that FC go away.
the question is will that break anything, try it and find out
I flashed your rom and saw the FC then "rm HtcAddProgramWidget.*" and the FC went away in the setup process. idk if it breaks anything else when you actually use the phone though. good luck!

Nice- thanks for the help...
I'd like to see a stock dialer work with verizon to troubleshoot an issue.
A weird issue which not many people have seemed to mention is the fact that you can't make multiple calls with Verizon. Perhaps its a verizon limitation? I am new to verizon so I am not sure.. When I mean make multiple calls, all you can do with the stock incredible is place a call, add a call and then conference it. You cannot put your first call on hold, make a second call and then go back to the first call. The phone app will only allow you to conference it. Also when you hit end calls its ends both calls..
The EVO does not have this problem, but it being on sprint perhaps they support it.. As both are CDMA networks I believe it should work with the incredible?
I would love a senseless rom with the stock android dialer. I would be ok with sense but the sense dialer is a pos. i just hate it.
If you have something like Dialer One installed, it's actually ok to delete HtcDialer.apk and HtcDialer.odex from /system/app. You can say goodbye to the Sense dialer. Even if you still use the Sense launcher, when you press Phone it will bring up Dialer One and will not fc on you.
I finally put together a stock nexus rom for the Inc, but I'm having the same issues as the cyanogenmod... says TCDMA64 at the top and the damn camera won't work... does anybody know how to properly deodex the stock apps from the Inc.? Try as I might I can't get it to work...
On a brighter note- it's fast, and light... just won't take pictures...
I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470
Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:
http://www.androidguys.com/2011/02/23/google-drops-facebook-sync-nexus/
Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

I'd considered that, even set up a decompiling environment, but never got around to trying it. Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.
Greetz
I'm combing the smali folder as we speak, but nothing stands out as a definitive match
The one problem about ics, you're working to fix. Thanks man! I hope you find your answer!
Haven't found it yet, though. I've been trying to get into contact with koush, see if he's had any insight.
MoDaCo got it working on the Galaxy Nexus. If anyone has the galaxy yet, you could upload his rom and them comb through the /system and see what has been changed. we could then possibly implement it for the Galaxy S as well.

when you go through the Rom kitchen on their site it says the option is installed to system partition
Awesome, good looking out. Downloading it now, i'll be combing the files right away. You don't need to have the actual phone to peek at the system files
But unfortunately, it seems that it is a premium feature.

You can download it. I did earlier. Look at the first post of the thread its there.
The premium stuff is like to cook your own. I'm sure the standard one available in the first post has it implemented.

Oh, sweet. I'm not familiar with that developer, so i didn't know how he does his stuff. I'll push and pull some files to and from my phone, see if i can't get it working.
Anyone know if you can delete/uninstall the gmail and google calendar that gets installed on a rooted Nook wi NTGapps.
Just don't have any need to fit on my nook and would prefer not to have it in case my nook gets stolen or falls into the wrong hands.

Download the app root browser (easiest way is to use the play website and 'push' it to your device - hopefully you will have set up a sync with your account?) , if not, search for the app root browser, navigate to system/app/ x , x is gmail.apk or calendar.apk. Next part took me a while to figure out, click the button on the toolbar like thing which says 'multi select' then select/highlight the ones you want to delete, then just click delete, you will find they are no longer existing XD. Alternatively rename them or disable (im not quite sure how that works), but deleting them means they are gone for good, look into deleting a lot of other apks too, like phone and camera, they just dont need to exist.

Just a couple things from experience, if you delete a couple things you might not have wanted to (i sure did XD) , latinime.apk is the keyboard, so leave that alone. Library you can get rid of, i found a much better version of the library that some dude (cannot remember the thread) had made, if you want that i can upload it or just find the thread again.
I generally just googled some of the things i was unsure about removing, or just copied them over to somewhere else then deleted them to see if nothing broke XD.

If you could send me that link to the alternative library that would be amazing. What's the major difference between it and the stock B&N one that makes it so much better?

it fits way more books on a screen, and you can also filter by name, last read, series, author etc,
this is the site http://www.temblast.com/android.htm , its library.apk, try it out, see what you think, what ive done is mapped the n button to open library, so i can easily switch to library from the relaunch/launcher.
full credit to renate nst who made this library app, its pretty good.
I use to remove system applications SystemApp Remover. He is able to delete, make backups and freeze the application.
I was wondering if anyone might be able to pull 4 files for me.
From system/priv-app:
Teleservice.apk
Teleservice.Odex ... If it exists
From system/app:
TelephonyProvider.apk
TelephonyProvider.odex .. If it exists
I am trying to get the Google dialer working and these files might help.
Thanks

I appreciate it.
There has been talk of them taking out those other two files.
Hopefully I can get them to work.
I'll let you know what I come up with.
If you want to, take a look in my sig, flash the signed google dialer AFTER you do a backup. You'll at least have the local places search on the dialer, these files are an effort to get caller-id working.
Also, you'll have 2 dialers. you'll have to look for the one with "nearby places" search when you open them up.

I'm bummed that they left this out of the dailer but great to see someone trying to get it working. I've had a Gnex for the last two years and am not used to having a locked bootloader. I assume that flashing this requires root? I would love to have the local search but I am on 4.4 with no root .
If by chance it doesn't require root would you be able to provide some instructions. Sorry, just used to being able to boot into recovery and flash whatever I want. Love my X but miss the freedom of a nexus...
Thanks!
Root is required. Sorry
