[Q] touch key fireware update question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using bell i9000 and I'm having problem with my back button. when I click it a few times, the light of the back button turns off while the menu button is on but both bottons, as well as the home button is non responsive.
I did some diggings and saw that the touch key firmware using the *#*#2663#*#* thing might some the problem. But I'm wondering if it matters if I'm using custom rom? I'm using Darky's rom. Does Touch key FW update only work with stock rom?

Any help please?

Flash stock then update keys then go to cfw

Volume wakup for stock rom?

I'm using the official htc stock rom (sense 3.6) and I was wondering if we can use the volume buttons to wakeup the phone. Is there a tweak or an app for this that really does work?
Anyone any ideas?

Made for ARHD, might work for stock, make a backup just in case

Go to the Development section and take a look at the XS-ICS 2.2 Kernel. It works great with thr stock ICS ROM and has the Swipe to Wake feature. When it is in sleep mode you can swipe across the touch buttons to wake it up. You can also swipe it right to left to put it into sleep mode. It is a great feature.
@eRadicant:
I see that there is a zip file. I assume that you have to install it with 4ext recovery.
But my phone is back to stock. So I'm not rooted, no revcovery and relocked. So I can't install the zip file (I think).
@tpbklake :
don't know if the XS-ICS 2.2 kernel is stable enough. I'm reading that there are still some issues.
So I wanted to try this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285187
But I don't have the classes.dex file. So I think I'll just give up and wait for the Nik's transformer.

CWM not working

Using Zeus 6.39 ROM
Installed ROM manager premium 5.0.0.8 version
Few days later installed CWM touch version
Today, I tried to install Zeus v7 ROM, I went into CWM recovery, but then touch is not working...it's ok
But physical keys also not working, the search button for select is not working
volume up and down working, physical keys of menu and home button working for up and down...back button is working
select button of search key is not working to select
Later I used ROM manager internally to flash Zeus v7, succeeded. Is there any solution in forum for Zeus v7 bugs, till now I never saw.
but CWM is 200% easy and best..
solution plz, sorry for bad English
Well, I'm still using "old" CWM-Recovery, recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-p970.img as I don't like touch version...
So I don't know, maybe because CWM-Touch that has the problem...

You can try a wipe data in recovery, if it works (power button +volume up + home when the phone is off)
Okay do what the guy above said,
1. Get into Recovery Mode(Volume up + Power Button)
2. Wipe data and cache
Please reply if anything happens.

Menu button/ lack of

Question about the lack of menu button.
So before buying the phone I I check into it and found out it used the 3dots and not a menu button like other androids.
Also found the back button long press as menu hack.
I have that install but I am still having problems and got questions.
First what do you do when the app your on doesn't have the 3dots?
Xda app doesn't have it to make a new thread. Also found a few of my older apps don't have it either.
Next the problem.
80% of the time when I press and hold the back button it just goes back. Or it will go back and then open the 3dot menu.
Is there any way to fix this or map the menu to long press home?

You can use Elemental X kernal and have the HTC logo as a menu button that's what I use and it works a treat. Are you on a custom OS as if you are you may have flashed something with the 3dot away mod explaining why you never see it?

Stock rooted tmobile Rom.
Xposed mod for back button.
And I don't truly like custom kernels. Had problems in the pass and had to update them weekly

That kernal is stable and doesn't require updating every week so it's a good option for you
+1 for elemental X. It's great. What about if you download pie control from the play store and set a menu control that way? I used to use the back button method but find it doesn't work half of the time. HTC logo2menu from custom kernels work 100%
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
If you prefer to avoid custom kernel, then use a Rom based on 4.2.2 as these allow long press home to be enabled for menu
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Thanx for the information.
I'll try the pie control for now. And look into the 4.2 Roma and kernel.
I'm so dumb. If you use the hack it hides the menu. Never knew that since I rooted and install the Xposed hack hrs after having the phone.

Reflashing tonyp's rom didn't solve the problem.
Installed CM 10.1 "Stock" and it is solved, button working again and rom running smooth.
try to set it manually in settings / hardware buttons
