I picked up my tab to play with it, and it was off. I turned it on and it got stuck at the Samsung screen. A voice said 'invalid data partition' or something similar, and wouldn't boot. 'No problem', thought I, 'I'll just restore it back to stock.'
My attempts so far:
Flash full stock (cache, filesystem, param, kernel, recovery) using HeimdallGUI
Flash stock kernel and recovery using HeimdallGUI
Flash stock kernel and recovery using Heimdall cmd line prompts
Flash KhasMek kernel using HeimdallGUI
Flash KhasMek kernel using Heimdall cmd line prompts
After every attempt it gets stuck at the Samsung screen. I can't get into recovery at all, although I can get to the download screen. I get 'Success!' after each flash.
Any ideas? I am looking into using Odin but can't find much info on how to use it, or what files to download. I've found a few threads but the links go to 404s. I have a VZW tab, in case it helps.
You may need to flash database too.

Thank you. I found another place where the files are linked, but one of the links 404s, the other gets maybe 4kps download and stops 100mg in.

I just rooted my Nexus 1 Froyo per instructions on theUnlockr.com. I installed ADB first, Then proceded to root. I then flashed a recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1-cyan.img. This was successful. I then booted phone into recovery mode. Selected recovery and the first couple times I received a black screen with an exclamation point in the middle of a triangle next to green android. I flashed recovery rom once again and this time it allowed me to enter. I made my backup image and even booted into recovery mode againwiped phone clean and restored image. I thought I was golden! Later I tried to boot into recovery mode again and I received same problem as mentioned above. I tried again no luck. I even flashed recovery rom again and It still dose not work. Why could this be happening? I even went through the steps to root phone again (that went well). But still no recovery mode. I even tried another recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img. It did the same thing. Worked one time and then nothing! I need to fix this before I load custom Roms.

I was able to flash recovery via your instructions but phone STILL will not boot into recovery mode. I hold down the volume key and power.....all I get is triangle with droid net to it. Im going to try and Un-root my phone and start from scratch! Thanks for the help!
you are getting the triangle with the droid because the recovery did not flash correctly, try usung rom manager if for nothing else, just to install Amon/clockwork

Did you remove the two scripts like you were told? /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p

Cool thanks for the advice! I did try Rom Manager and used Amon/Clockwork recovery. After flashing the Recovery Image I booted into recovery from Rom Manger. No problem! BUT.....when I rebooted phone from recovery menu I again went in to Rom Manager and tried to Boot back in to recovery and I got the triangle with the Droid next to it. I pulled battery and started phone again. I flashed Amon/Clockwork recovery again from Rom Mang. and again I was able to successfully boot in to recovery. This pattern goes on and on. It seams that every-time I want to boot into recovery I need to flash Amon/clockwork image. Somewhere phone is not retaining the information. Everything looks to work just fine as long as I Flash before I go into recovery. I'm sure this is not the way it should work. Any ideas?

Khaytsus,
When was I told to remove the two scripts? Where did this come from? Please let me know what they are for and why removing them would help? Also, if I do need to remove these would it be done by using Root File Manager, finding file and selecting delete? Sorry if I sound new to this.....it's because I am! LOL. Thanks for any help you can provide!
Try this.

It's documented in random places, of course the post below also has the same info. I don't know precisely what the two files do, but they apparently try to restore the recovery.
Trust me, it will fix the problem. Remove them, re-flash recovery.

So, I'm not the OP, but I am having trouble deleting the files despite the fact that they are both say "YES" in read and write in properties. I tried to reflash from ROM Manager and I keep getting an error there. Not sure what to do.
BTW, I'm using a Galaxy Nexus. Would love some help as this is all uncharted terrain for me.

If I understand, your problem is that you can't actually flash a custom recovery from ROM Manager ?
Which do you use ?
Are you trying to flash a recovery in recovery mode ?
Please link here files you tried to flash.

I can't flash from ROM Manager. Initially, I didn't want to purchase the download capability. So, first, I used the program tools and flashed from there. I got Clockwork Mod to work, but then when I restarted it and went into "recovery," I got nothing.
Now, I can't flash at all.
The galaxy nexus should have fastboot capabilities, this is the best and safest way to flash your recovery partition
Be sure to use the proper recovery image for your device
If you need help finding it or setting up fastboot let me know

I have only ever found a guide for a temporary flash. I would follow the instructions and then CWM wouldn't stick. =\
So here is the typical steps to follow
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
And that's it, were you using fastboot to just boot it? Were you doing another method? The more details you give the faster and more accurate your help will be

I used instructions from http://androidforums.com/internatio...root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#enter-recovery.
The ROM wouldn't "stick" and then the USB wasn't even recognized by the end of everything.
Start by booting into your bootloader and writing down everything word for word on that screen here. Next boot to recovery and write down what you see there. Even better upload pics of each. Again the more detailed you can be the more help you can get

So I was using Darky's ROM v9.3 and everything was fine for a couple of months. I had a force close on a game that always worked in past so went to reboot phone. At this time my phone simply failed to finish rebooting. The phone got past the "GALAXY" screen title and then was caught in the "Darky's ROM" title.
I still had download and recovery mode (clockworkmod) so I tried to do a recovery. The recovery file was from just after I had flashed Darky's ROM. This time when I rebooted the phone did not even make it past the "GALAXY" screen title. Furthermore, on this title screen, it initially shows that it is a "GT-i9000 M" but then the "M" drops from the model description.
I have been trying everything I can to simply get a clean copy of the rom onto my internal sd card but no matter what I do Samsung Kies wont connect to the device so that I can copy the .zip to reflash.
I have tried enabling and disabling debugging, I have tried using "download" mode, I have tried mounting system etc and all to no avail.
Pleas help! Can anyone give a detailed description of settings needed to connect to the pc successfully so i can download a rom for a reflash?

Hi all.
I picked up a used cappy that was "bricked" for cheap. It simply bootlooped on the AT&T screen.
Took it home, hooked it up and odin'ed stock kfc1 with bootloaders onto it. I have now tried every one click Odin or hiemdal gb file I can find, and it just sits at the att screen. Download mode works fine, recovery doesn't.
Flashing a gb kernel with cwm through odin works, but still no boot or recovery.
What am I missing?
Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I957 using Tapatalk
you might want to try flashing a stock ROM with Odin, I'm sure you can find some around the forum =) It's really hard to hard brick the cappy, and since download mode works all you need is a working ROM, so yeah, just go with a stock ROM first
A stock ROM is what I've been attempting to do. I have tried all the 1 click stock packages in the sticky in the development forum..

Try not using a 1 click
I tried that as well.
I flashed one at a time (meaning just the bootloader, then just the kernel, and finally the rom itself), as well as everything at once.
Proper bootloaders flash fine, kernel flashes fine, and roms appear to flash fine.
Just failure to boot or recovery..
I'm at a loss..
Edit; autocorrect fail

Sounds like the same problem I'm having, unfortunately I believe it's related to a bad internal sd partition and as of yet I've found no way to fix it
If you flash stock eclair, can you enter recovery?
That was the only recovery I was able to access, from there running adb shell, then dmesg I was able to see that the internalsd was corrupted or at least not mounting.
Still not able to enter recovery even on Eclaire.
I think Ill send it to Samsung USA and see what they say..

I figured I would update this, I called Samsung and gave them my imei number and they stated it was still under warranty.
So I sent them the device.
The internal SD was corrupt or bad as stated on the invoice.
I have it back and it works free of charge!
Thanks Sammy!

Hi all, posting my saga here if it would help someone, maybe you can comment or help. Here's the info and steps I've taken:
Info:
Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.0" (AT&T) running stock Froyo
Model: SGH-I987 (aka GSM Galaxy Tab - P1000, T-Mobile SGH-T849)
Baseband: I987UCJK1
Steps Taken:
Rooted using SuperOnceClick - successful
Installed SGT-Bootloader-Patch-v1.00.apk, reported that I was safe, however I still cannot install unsigned zips…
To get around 3e recovery, I decided to flash a custom rom with cwm recovery built in. This is where things started to go downhill
I installed an overcome kernel which I thought would give me cwm recovery, however instead I got the thin white line on the right hand side and the robotic voice. Couldn't get to recovery
After the robotic voice I installed JJ4 bootloaders which got me a different splash screen, but at least it was booting now, still no recovery though
I think at some point I may have repartitioned as well
Then I tried a cyanogenmod install, things started to pickup because I got cwm recovery working, but the ROM install failed with an assert failure getprop("ro.product.device") … I assume this is because the device is actually and SGH-I987 but the rom is for a P1000. I deleted the assert from the install script in the zip file, however the install still fails, can't get past recovery.
The latest attempt this morning, I followed the instructions here "How to unbrick your galaxy tab" I downloaded the firmware from sammobile (Tablet, android, GT-P1000, UK / IRELAND, P1000XWJP9_P1000XXJPZ_P1000XEUKP1_HOME.tar) plus the Odin zip file containing the P1_add_hidden.pit file for repartition. Everything goes well in Odin however after reboot I have (see text and pictures below.)
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E:install_application_for_customer: Can't mount /data
Your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy application failed.
When I reboot out of recovery, I get put into the glowing Samsung animation, which appears to blink, freeze then restart in an endless loop, I've let it run for sometime now, seems no end to it (see picture below)
I thinking I may have hosed my internal SD, but I'm not sure? Any advice to get this thing back running appreciated. My goal is to install Cyanogenmod 9 on it. Thanks.
Use overcome method, meaning you must do gb stock save v5 before overcome kernel.
Link is in my signature.

Download Odin version 1.85 and put that on your computer. Download the stock rom for your device from sammobil.com. Extract the .tar.md5 file from that using 7-zip. From Odin, plug your phone in using the USB cable while your in download mode on the phone. in PDA in Odin find the md5 file. Flash that. It'll return your phone to like new condition. You'll lose anything stored on it so make sure you back up your phone first.

It really depends on the problem.
There are a small percentage of people that has broken/degraded internal memory chip (NAND chip).
For those, there are threads dealing with removing the chip or modifying ROMs to run on external SD card entirely.
while i was installing xnote build 11 i forgot to acutally install the zip before going to odin but i did remembered to delete system and data so now im stuck at the boot screen and i cant go into recovery since safestrap got deleted when i deleted the stock rom so i can get into download but i didnt have usb debugging on so i cant really use ADB im little stuck on what i should do next..

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476353 to get back to stock and start over.
Also, usb will still work in download mode (follow instructions in thread). If you have trouble getting your device recognized in ODIN then try a different USB slot. That solves 90% of the problems with ODIN.

So I downloaded those files and went through that process of installing so what I should do is odin those files then I should be able to hit vol down and powrr to get into ss since it doesn't pop up like safestrap usually does? Because all I see is the note 3 boot screen not the ss before that
You need to restore back to stock using the link i posted earlier.
Then root using kingo.
Install custom safestrap apk.
Install recovery in safestrap app.
Manually reboot into download mode.
Use ODIN and flash 'togetsafestap'.
Reboot and select recovery at startup.
Wipe everything except 'ext sd card'.
Install custom rom ( I recommend Knoxdroid 4.0 + Bobcat theme)
Clear dalvik and cache.
Reboot into download mode.
Use ODIN to flash 'togetbooting'.
Reboot into system.
Enjoy.
This is the best and fastest way to avoid any problems that may have been introduced with what has already been done. If you need any help just ask and feel free to search the dev threads.
