After hours of headache I am still unable to test my app on the nexus one device... mainly because my 64 bit Vista cannot find a device driver for the usb.
1. I have gone tried the developer.android instruction, which ofcourse does not work.
2.I have also gone tried the idea posted in a thread in this forum <mods wont allow me to post link> without success mainly because the cmd says "boot configuration data store cannot be opened. access is denied."
3. I went over Install and run USBDeview<mods wont allow me to post link> , but it wont work either, USBDView cannot uninstall in step 5 of the blog.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please if someone has installed the USB Driver for nexus one in a Windows Vista x64 help me out.. i have so many apps on the emulator which I want to try on the new device !!
Is their any other way I can port my app from the emulator and try it on the device? Thanks in advance
Please do not post non-dev related threads in the dev section... yeah, i think u thot this was a dev question since u are talking abt porting an app, but the question is really not dev related... this shud go in Q&A... mods please move!!
In any case, I've installed the N1 driver in Windows 7 x64 without any problem, and since the driver is the same for Vista & 7 x64, I don't think it shud be a problem...
I simply downloaded the drivers via the SDK setup... plugged in the phone and manually installed the driver via device manager... worked like a charm!!
+1 for the section and also for it working on Win 7 pro x64 for me.
+1 on posting in the proper section. I also have it working on win 7 x64.
As a side note, people who think the word 'should' is spelled 'shud' should not be correcting people.

Try turning on USB debugging! Worked for me on Win7 when having similar difficulties

Here you go - USB Driver that worked fine with Vista 64 bit - found on this very site. Install the driver and just enable USB debugging.

Thanks a lot.. this zip file worked like a charm unlike the last ones I downloaded from what seems to be everywhere ( even the google repository) !
Hi All,
I just purchased my Captivate yesterday from Costco (Expecting to still get the 2.4 Eclair) but unfortunately I got the Froyo 2.2 on my new captivate.
I tried rooting it using superoneClick and it just gets stuck on "Waiting for Device". I have drivers properly installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine (because I can use the phone and access its internal SD card).
Can anyone have suggestion or faced similar problems?
I have tried disabling/re-enabling usb debgging while it says "Waiting for the device"
Search the forum. There are a few threads floating around on different ways to root the stock froyo build. I don't know why the superoneclick wont work in your case but a search will turn up some info for you.
thanks. I will search the the threads and will post my results here in this thread for someone like me struggling with the same problem.
If you were planning on flashing a custom ROM after rooting anyway, you could use Odin one-click from download mode to flash 2.1 eclair, and then go from there.
Are you sure you are enabling debugging? I just used superoneclick on my phone last night after I flashe dback to stock.
First thing I do is change the phone in settings to - Ask on Connection, then I enable debugging.
Also you could try a different USB port on your computer and also make sure you have all of your necessary drivers installed.
I hope you get it figured out!
PeteSeiler2010: I haven't tried different USB port yet. I will try tonight and see if it goes through.
For usb debugging, I tried that as I mentioned. Let me just conform what I did. When it says "Waiting for device" for several seconds, I disconnected USB cable from either phone or computer (because it says that if you are stuck on "waiting for device", disable and re-enable usb debugging) because without disconnecting the cable, phone didn't let me disable the USB debugging..
So looks like I am missing something here??

want a much easier method? install speedmod kernel using odin, reboot into recovery, advanced features (not the CWM version), and choose the option that says something like "root phone" and choose the "simple" option. congratulations, you are now rooted and running a custom kernel with CWM that can install a custom ROM.
next time, please do not post this in development as this has NOTHING to do with development. Q&A or general next time, please.
How did someone with no posts, post a question in this section? I thought you had to have a minimum of 10 posts to post in here.
I am sorry if I have missed that rule for the new posting but I am new (just two days old) into the android world and for the xda forums as well..

I already apologize for missing the rule for the 10 minimum posts on forum before posting.
I rooted my device successfully by using odin. Thanks all of you for the suggestions.
my samsung galaxy s is not recognized by my computer no matter what i do!
don't know why, i've done some research, no results.
i've installed Kies, which i assume already installs the drivers, but when i connect, the computer shows no sign of connection (it says that i need to update drivers in device manager??) i tried different USB ports, toggled USB debugging on/off, NOTHING WORKS
the reason i want my computer to recognize the galaxy is because i want to update it to android 2.3.5 via odin. but when i enter download mode, the computer doesn't recognize it. when i'm in the system, the computer STILL doesn't recognize it...???
please somebody help, it's rooted, running a different MIUI version (not the ones in xda dev section), i'm not sure where i got it from, but it's called an ENG_MIUI?
CM7 (and subsequently MIUI) is built from the Nexus S source code, so find the proprer drivers for it. "CM7 drivers" should be a sufficient google search. Also, Kies sometimes interferes while using the other drivers. If you run into any problems, uninstall Kies.

To get your phone recognized you need nexus s drivers. But that won't help you get it recognized by kies.
You need stock firmware on your phone to get it updated through kies.

I have same problem previously. But it solved after I do this: while Kies open, select Tools then press Install driver.
thanks guys, but how would i go about doing that? the directions i found don't make any sense?

Just to clarify, this won't help you. Samsung uses Samsung drivers. Since you do not currently have Samsung firmware on your phone, this won't do you any good. As previously stated by two very informative posters, you will need the Nexus S drivers to recognize your phone.
And, also as previously stated by just an absolutely wonderfully helpful poster, if you do a simple google search you'll find exactly what you need. Try either Nexus S Driver, CM7 Driver, Nexus S CM7 Driver, or really anything else similar. You could also check the CM7 Wiki, as I'm sure there would be a link for them there. And finally, if you simply search XDA Developers, I'm sure you'd find plenty of posts with what you need.
Hopefully that helps.
thanks
now my computer can see it when it's in android, but why does it STILL not see my Galaxy S in download mode???
do i need another set of drivers? (it said driver not found)
BTW THANKS GUYS!!! sorry if i'm being annoying

try different computer, install samsung driver then connect your phone

Well, it seems to be a driver issue!
Try these (32-bit windows) but make sure that you are having a fresh win7 installed just in any case that your reg got corrupted with drivers (Ime ).
Still not working, then try on another pc..!

Well, CM7 drivers won't help SGS to get recognized on PC on DLD mode, you need another set of drivers and not those Nexus S's. I had the above ones installed on my PC (Google's your Best friend ) .
I had to install the drivers manually,
Right click on computer, click manage -> device something -> find your device in the list, select to update driver, search manually and enter the path to your android sdk and search.
Worked like a charm to me

computer could see device in download mode?
hi
i had same problem, but computer recognize the device as "unknown device"
in all modes, developed, storage etc...
i am close to think thats is problem of internal usb driver of the rom
want to downgrade from de device, whitout usb, but i dont know how do it, because i am not root, and its no possible in 2.3.4 whituot usb.
thanks
I had a lot of similar issues with my I9000, too.
Tried everything on ROM and driver side also on different computers.
Finally it turned out that my Micro USB connector was corroded.
I have around 30 people in our company that have the same phone, and 5 of them had similar issues. I guess it's a common problem with this device.
I took a toothpick and cleaned the contact of the connector by sliding it up and down for a couple of million times. This also did the trick for my colleagues.
I think it's at least worth to try it.
Good luck
i try to clean the contact, but still cant connect to the computer.
I wonder if a method of degrading the system with a signed rom from the recovery, without using the USB cable or ODIN.
i have a same problem. Any new solution?

I own a Galaxy S GT-i9000( bought at SFR)
When I connect it to computer I get the prompt that tells to choose between Storage, Kies...
But whatever I choose the computer tells me USB Device not recognised.
Now I was stupid enough to do the following:
I managed to root using Z4root by copying the APK file on external sd .
I got rom manager and updated my recovery.
I updated using the CM10-unofficial rom that is in the development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775169
The Mobile Network was not working so I did the following
I restored the nand that i did in recovery and now the phone is frozen on the first boot screen (Galaxy S GT-i9000 SCREEN)
Now I can go to Download mode but I can't go to recovery mode.
Let me remind you that my USB data connection is not working. So even though I enter into the Download mode I am not able to use Odin. If you know somthing that I am not doing, let me know.
So now I am looking for a solution that would permit me to flash without USB or allow me to go to recovery mode. Or a tutorial on how to change the usb port myself.
Thanks in advance.

You can try using Mobile Odin.
Also, you can try Heimdall method: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-flashing-to-original-rom-using-heimdall.126/
Hey
have you tried to connect it in Download mode??
Need more solutions
Thanks again to all of you that have answered me so fast.
Well I just finished trying all that you suggested.
unfortunately am still at the same point. Whatever I do, whatever drivers am putting in, cleaning inside the USB port with methylated spirit... Not getting Odin or Kies to detect it.
I read somewhere that when the data connection works, I should see the device named Samsung Device even before installing the drivers, but all I am getting is Unknown device. I still went ahead uninstalling and installing the drivers you provided and there is no successful outcome so far.
I still have faith. I have a little knowledge in electronics. I can open my phone and get to the usb port. My problem is I don't get any tutorial on how to replace the usb port. The thing is the connections are very tiny. I can also do with a bypass way that could make me install a 2nd usb port temporarily just long enough to flash the phone.
Or a hardware solution if I have to remove and flash a specific IC in a certain manner.
Thank you in advance.

hi there,
after doing alot of stuff to your phone that wasnt nessacary i'm not surprised it doesnt work er sorry . the only thing i can think of is the following whenever i have a problem with windows i go to linux, which is faster , much more efficient . so i suggest that you install linux ( ubuntu the best ) and try using odin with the linux version, it often detects things that windows doesnt see. other than that sorry cant think of anything else .

Uninstall from PC Kies, instal samsung drivers, then download and flash mod 2.3.4 xxjvp stock? / Or other, 3.PDA, PHONE, CSC / pit is 512 and re-partition and start to turn in Odin.
I would like to upgrade my 2X from Nova HD Rebuild v1.1.0 to Official V30A.
Problem is that I can not install drivers for PC because my custom ROM does not support PC connection,
Then I tried to downgrade it to stock rom, but I forgot to do backup in CWM when I moved from to stock to custom ROM. Thats way I have nothing to come back to. Now I am stucked without any ideas.
Can you please give me some advice?
Thanks
Admins!! I am bit surprised about this post. How come a new member with only 4 posts can open a new (looking for customer care kind of) thread in DEVELOPMENT section?
Asking coz I think this facility was not available since many years.
Dude! This post should be in General Section. Generally Devs dont answer such things in this area. :silly:
download B2C from lg site and install drivers
put youre phone into sw mode
download smartflash
wait for drivers
flash this: http://file.qip.ru/get/EpX_YlZ5/BIN_...EUR-XXX-N.html

1.put youre phone into sw mode (Remove batteri Hold in volume up & down , when putting in usb cable.)
2.Install drivers
3.flash the file miw link to in smartflash.
how easy are´nt that?
dafoxen, I tried removing the battery and Holding downvolume up & down , when booting, but in that case phone wont start.
It only boots when volume down is pressed and then it goes to sw upgrading mode. After connecting to PC nothing happens, no driver installing, no nothing.
I also tried with dubuging mode on and off before booting but its the same

cmahendra is right, the post doesn't belong in the Dev section, if the mods see it I am sure they will move it.
If you HAD to post in the Dev section then maybe you could have posted in the Nova thread?
But.. why don't you just put another rom on your SD card (surely you can take out your SD card and connect it to your PC? Buy an adapter if you need to they cost pennies) and flash it from CWM? Then you can connect to your PC.
Right now I`m searching for stock rom in zip format to try it load with cwm

I have almost exact same problem, but mine has been already update to ICS using smathflash. But for some reason I cannot install Homero's rooted V30a, becuase apparently the opti tool keep saying: USB device not found. I already try LG drivers, switching USB ports, restarting computer, poor device by now I'm sure it feels that has been raped after so many plug in's and off's.
How do I do and how do I know that the computer recognize it in APX mode?

Exactly, you've been here for over 5 years, you should know that questions go in Q&A. And don't try to blame this on cmahendra, he's kinda right. The development section is for Roms, kernels etc. Not questions.
I am not blaming anyone. Everyone has its own opinion and that is great, it only makes this community better.

You might find an answer there, it gave me some life signs:
I flashed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1617458
To get some sort of life signs, I switched to CP UART, because switching to AP UART didn't change anything. Anyway, I hear the sound that plays when you plug a device in a couple of times, but it shows as an unknown device in the device manager. I also get a little icon in the system tray that says "an unknown device has been plugged in". A couple of seconds later, it disappears, the "disconnect" sound plays and the "unknown device" is no longer shown in the device manager...
