Hello
I'm unable to use a VPN connection with my SGT.
When i connected to my VPN with PPTP there is no data going through.
When i try L2TP, the connection never goes up.
Everything is working fine with other devices (PC, Mac, iphone)
It seams there is an issue with the vpn client.
Are you aware of these issue and or workaround?
thanks for you help
Nobody knows what is the issue ? I ve read that there is a problem with the vpn client
I have had a Verizon GT and now have an AT&T GT. I could never get the VPN client working with the Verizon unit and it worked the first time with the AT&T unit. The firmware is different (and I believe, later) on the AT&T model. I believe there is a problem that appeared in early firmware and was fixed at some point. I haven't seen a fix, but I was able to find third party software that worked with the routers that I need to connect to. Sorry I can't help more.
I have a vzw tab that was connecting with no problems over vpn until the last vzw patch. now it doesn't work...tun.ko loads fine and the vpn says connected but ifconfig never shows any tunnel interfaces and it doesn't work.
I may have to revert to a pre-update and finally bite the bullet and install a custom rom. such a pain in the ass.

I am running a wifi only (GT-P1010) with stock FROYO.UEKC6 and the 2.6.32.9 kernel and I cannot connect to a PPTP VPN either. Is there even a rom that works with this thing that will fix it? I was hoping to stay mostly stock with this device but if VPN doesn't work I have to do something. That's the main reason I bought it.
Strange thing is that it works fine on my Vibrant and has for a long time. Though I can also connect to my Ad-hoc AP on my phone unlike a lot of other people I have seen posting.
Hello, PPTP VPN is working fine here with a euro gsm gtab. Stock rom + overcome kernel.

The wifi only models are different from the gsm and cdma models.
VPN issues are related with the firmware you are running, so I'd suggest you if u got a GSM tab, flash the rotor JMI which known for working with VPNs.

Are there any roms that work on the wifi only tab that has vpn running on it? It is stupid that Samsung has not fixed this on a tablet. I really need to find a solution.
Samsung Support refuses to respond about vpn problem
I think VPN problems are well known by Samsung. I have emailed Samsung support twice inquiring for my registered Galaxy Tab wifi version and they have not responded so I'm considering returning the tab and getting an ipad. Apple support is first rate. Samsung won't even respond!
The pb seems to be from the froyo.
It may be fixe with android 2.3

I've searched many treads and also put up a few posting in the past.
I know Anyconnect is not available for the Xoom/Andriod OS at this time, but has anyone found an "easy" way to connect to a Cisco VPN system.
I was able to install certs as needed and tried a few workarounds, but no luck.
This is the a must have for me and I know a lot of others.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I was able to get my Cisco VPN to connect by rooting and using VPN Connections.

Couple of questions
You mentioned rooted? Did you change kernel also?
3g or Wifi model? (I have Wifi)
When you say VPN connections, do you mean a app or the stock connect in the system?
Did you tranfer your certificates to the Xoom?
Sorry for all the questions. I've had a Gtab since November and just picked up a Xoom after holding out for a month.
Glad I made the purchase.....

I should mention the Cisco VPN I'm connecting to only uses grou passwords
I'm using the 3G model, and it is rooted with the tun.ko module available from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972550&highlight=tun.ko.
VPN Connections is a root app available from http://code.google.com/p/get-a-robot-vpnc/

The problem is, that the VPN Connection with anyconnect is totally unstable and with all the other Cisco VPN-concentrators its the same problem. That is the result of how android is programmed. i Tried to get a stable cisco-vpn connection on a nexus one, nexus s and optimus speed. All failed. You had to copy a tun.ko file, specific for the phone. then you where able to connect to a normal cisco vpn concentrator (not anyconnect concentrator). but that worked only once. every time after that, the vpn connection was so unstable i could only get it up for some secounds. thats why i bought an iPhone as smartphone and use the xoom as tethering.
what i want to try the next few days is, connect with the free iOS Any-Connect / VPN protocoll on the iPhone and then tether my xoom to use the same connection there. dunno if it will work

So far, that is the only way I can get a "connection." However, there does not appear to be any traffic going across the connection and VPN Connections hangs when I try to disconnect. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I've also had no luck connecting to my work VPN. We use Cisco Anyconnect and SecurID. The Cisco rep has been saying a client is in the works but nothing so far. This is the only think keeping the Xoom from really being a laptop replacement for me. Sucks.
Agreed!

I can't connect either but my setup is a little different. I log into Cisco SSL VPN Service through the website, which requires UN/PW/Group. When connecting for the 1st time on a device, it downloads and installs the VPN client. Through this method it performs:1)Platform Detection; 2)ActiveX; 3)Java Detection; 4)Sun Java; 5)Download & 6)Connected. But when signing in using my Xoom it hangs at step 5(Download). It displays a link, Linux i386, but it does nothing when clicking on it. Does anyone have this file or know a way around this?
The problem is google wont allow cisco into the kernal. The app is done at Cisco, but google is holding up the show. Cisco also has a new light weight vpn client that is more of an on demand app that will work with Jabber. (which works on xoom, i have it loaded)
What is the name of the light weight app that works on the Xoom?

if you flash the tiamat kernal and install the tun.ko you should be able to use the updated VPNC to connect just fine. i use my SecurID with this same setup and tunnel in daily for work. it sure does beat carrying a laptop around.
Also, Office chat is a office communicator app if your work uses it. basically i never have to carry a laptop around. I also use evernote. Onenote is great but evernote stores in the cloud and syncs to my phone, laptop, and xoom instantly will no setup necessary. Try it out.
Thanks for the tip Holsum. My Xoom isn't rooted yet but I'll investigate for my NexusOne which is already rooted and I'm very familiar with hacking on it. I'll give your suggestion a try and see if it helps.
When I run the vpn widget and test prerequisites it says that it doesn't have root. I am rooted running the newest tiamat kernel and the superuser app popped up and allows me to grant the app root... any idea why it thinks it doesn't have root?
Hi Forum,
I cannot get my Sprint tab to see my phone after installing Gingerbread. My computer can see the phone and connect it, but the tab won't. Before Gingerbread, I was able to scan and connect to my phone and tether just fine. I tried diff. wifi tethering app. Currently use Barnacle. My tab is not rooted, but that should not be a problem.

I'd have to say, untie your WIFE.. and then worry about wifi..
thanks!
I was in a hurry! Fixing the wife issue is going to be a lots more difficult.

which version of GB do you have installed? Is it the stock sprint update? Have you tried the WPA supplicant fix for it yet?
I using Sprint OTA Gingerbread, 2.3.4. Build number EF17. I have not tried the WPA supplicant fix. I did not have problem with this issue on Froyo. I will research on this. I would like some tips if you got them. Thank you !
I found a link on the issue, but require root. I am reluctant to take this step. It is not that I don't know how to use Odin, but removing root is a pain.
Here is the link to WPA supplicant if any interested.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854913&highlight=adhoc
from everything i've read, you won't be able to connect to ad-hoc mode wireless (most wifi tether apps) without the wpa supplicant patch. you might look into a wifi tether app that will do infrastructure mode to get that working again.
@ pvtjoker42,
Thank you for the tip. I did some further research and the Wifi Tether app works in infrastructure mode too. If any one interested, here is how you do it. Choose device profile- I chose Samsung Galaxy S. I also tested Samsung Galaxy Indulge. Under Setup-Method, choose Softap ( master). Now your Samsung Tab will see the phone. This app drains battery like no tomorrow, much more than Barnacle.
As above.. When I try to switch on to my portable wifi hotspot, I'm getting error but I'm still ale to connect it from my pc but it's state no Internet connection.. Anyone have any idea what's wrong? Thanks..

Hi I'm having the same problem with my HTC Desire HD. I also can't connect by wifi. I spoke to HTC about the problem & they advised me to do a factory reset.... which I did but it didn't resolve the problem. Not being very technically minded I am assuming that this means it is not a software problem & the fault lies with the hardware. I'm going to take it into Tmobile for repair.

I know this is as old as the mountains, but is there still no fix for a Secured Portable wifi hotspot for the p1000? Is that why it doesn't have a stable version yet?
Everything else works great on cm10 even though some settings like WIFI Region code and Preferred Network Type has to be reset after every nightly update and Reboot.
But, it is still great.
Hi,
I followed orlandoxpolice's instructions for Da_G's gtab 8.9 LTE root at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401100
and I am now rooted. The reason I did this was so that I can use the LTE service from my laptop in those travel situations in which the gtab's browser doesn't work as well as my laptop's would for some websites that I need to use on the road.
However, I can't get tethering to work. Maybe this is a Honeycomb issue? I installed the latest Barnacle, and it grabbed superuser perms and seemed to run perfectly, but I get no Internet access from my laptop when I tether to the gtab, even though I connect to the gtab and get a dhcp ip address with no problem. I also tried Android WiFi Tether at http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ but that produces the same result. Has anyone else gotten this working?
Thanks!
can't say i have tried this, but could it be a driver issue on your laptop? have you tried tethering with your desktop or any other computer?
Hmm, ROM or kernel might not have the necessary bits to route packets for tethering, I made a note to take a look at things next time I get a chance. Still no device though so I'll be doing it in the blind ROM doesn't have android tether app built into settings -> wireless & networks I take it?

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out. the wifi and portable hotspot are not working. The wifi has not been detecting open or locked wifi networks. When I try to create a portable hotspot, the phone displays the word, Error. I have Tmobile and use T-zones for my internet. Currently I am still using the internet but it is being used via USB. I still have and use internet so its not that Tmobile cancelled my internet but its more like something is wrong with the actual phone parts or the software. I have tired flashing other roms but no luck. I am currently using Android 2.3.4 on cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC1-IncS and also has S-off. The phone is unlocked and rooted. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

APN settings
No idea if this will work for you but it did for me. I am on t-mobile(UK). Wifi and tethering were both working fine for me until I rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. After going through loads of different options, I noticed that the APN had somehow changed when I rooted. (Settings>Wireless&networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)
For me the correct APN (general.t-mobile.co.uk) became general.t-mobile.uk after I rooted for no known reason. Adding the 'co' resolved the issue and everything started working again.
I would suggest searching the internet for your network's APN settings and having a look at the settings on your IS.
Good luck.
I tried both and none worked. Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas anyone?
Any one know if there is a new wifi software update? That or a hotspots update but I think they might be the same.
