I bought the galaxy tab from Rogers and out of the box I can send and recieve text messages. I asked the Rogers store at Yonge and Dundas about text fees and they told me the galaxy tab can not text.
Can anyone here tell me the text fee? I only have the data plan and no other phones with Rogers, but I am 100% sure i can send and receive texts directly to the tab number.

In case anyone reads this in the future... I got my bill in from Rogers and they charged 20 cents for incoming text and 20 cents for outgoing texts.
Too bad they don't have a text plan since they say you can't even text with it.
I plan to bring them my bill but don't expect it will change much

You guys should seriously do some research then. I'm with Rogers and I have a Tab with the Flex Rate Plan, I added a 20$ add-on and now I have unlimited text, picture and video messaging on my device. I use my device all the time for texting, I avarage about 1700-2000 texts a month and my bill is never over 55$ a month after Tx's. Seriously look into it, because someone, somewhere is bullshitting you!

Hi everyone,
Recently bought a tytn II, haven't bought a plan yet but most likely I will go with rogers...
anyone else using their phone with them? just wondering if they offered up unlimited data plans and how's the $$$$
This is my first phone so Im a total noob to this, the forums been great but I have read that some people get charged unknowingly from roaming charges.. how does this happen? Don't you only get charged if you browse the internet or send/receive email?
not to be rude but there is a rogers website. but unlimited data? hahahaha $65 for 1 GB
so which plan are you using?
right now i am using the 10MB for $5 promo they had going on a while back, but to get just regular data you need to claim to have a samsung a706 (as well for vid calling) as some reps might put u on the new windows mobile data plan which is $15 for 2 megs.
If you can make it happen then by all means get on the normal data plan and Opera Mini 4 mind you minimal browsing should be done regardless but opera gives you more bang for your buck.
If i were you, id go with Fido. Much cheaper plans than Rogers. I currently pay $18 value pack. I get Call display, Voicemail, 1,000 text msg, plus 12 MB internet plan.
Since Fido is under Rogers, you get the 3G network as well.
Hey guys whats up. tomorrow im gng on a medeterranean cruise with My att tilt and was wondering if i need to do anythung to get service in france, italy and croatia. will i get charged for just getting reception without making calls etc.
ty in advance.
oh btw im writing this from my tilt now in opera.how com i cant use the actual keyboard for more then 1 letter
cheera
someone please just give me a quick answer, Im leaving in 5 hrs
IF you received emails, sms, mms or anything on your phone with out an international rate you will be charged for it. I would basically turn your phone on airplane mode and only when necessary use it unless you call ATT right now.
My buddy has ATT and just went on a cruise. He received like 4 text messages and some email and was charge a lot.
Euro SIM card

If you are SIM unlocked, buy a Euro SIM card when you get to France or Italy. If you had planned ahead, there are good deals online but there are so many options it is a lot of work to find the best deal with the least restrictions. I got one for my daughter's college trip to Italy, worked great. Ask staff of cruise ship if they have a recommendation.
Your phone will work fine, call AT&T before you leave and sign up for their discounted Int'l plan, $5 fee will save you a TON of cash on your bill. Stay off of MMS, SMS and internet, they will charge a fortune for those items, telephone calls will cost you about $0.05/minute, so talk fast. I use my Tilt in EU all the time, works very well. Get the Int'l data plan if you need internet or SMS, MMS, adds about $25 to your bill, but again, saves a bundle, as you get 25 MB of data and about 100 SMS, MMS messages included, and those could cost you around $300 otherwise. Got a $1000.00 bill a few years ago before I wised up and got on the Int'l plans
Meant to say $0.85 voice call per minte, sorry for typo.
Emailed AT&T my phone number/IMEI and asked to SIM unlock code - they sent it to me w/o problems.
Entered it and tried my Tilt in Russia with Beeline - worked perfectly fine, no roaming fees.
sorry i'm late on reply.
i have kaiser and it works fine. since tilt is basically the same phone, it should work mostly anywhere.
if your phone is unlocked you can use some croatian provider. however, data is pretty expensive here (85$ unlimited, 65$ 3gb, and much more for prepaid), so i would suggest you to use some free wifi hotspots (there are some in serious restaurants and bars on coast). making internacional call with croatian providers is also expensive (probably more expensive than roaming on at&t). so i would recomand you to use croatian providers only for calls inside croatia (+385...) and the best would be some tele2 or tomato (this one have the cheapest calls and it can be used only for voice, no data, no MMS, no roaming) prepaid sim which can be found almost anywhere. tomato sim costs about 10$ and it has 10$ prepaid included, which means you get sim for free. call from tomato to USA is 1,47$.
Im currently thinking about switching to at&t from tmobile.
One reason is my work gets a 22% discount the at&t vrs 12% at Tmo.
Also with taxes and unlimited everything im paying about a hundred which is kind of rediculous. (Without my discount)
Has anyone switched before and have a little more insight about data and plans between the two networks. I already know tmobile has hspa+. But will i end up paying more at at&t?
I already have someone lined up to trade my tmo nexus for a att nexus. Im just skeptical. And yes im going to pay etf fee even though i dont want too.
Help me out here people.
Att generally is more money for the same service and their coverage is not much better at least where I live

First of all, don't sign a contract because you're providing your own phone so you don't need to go on contract. Secondly, have you checked to make sure that T-Mobile has 3G in your area? What's your zip code?
How much etf do you have to pay? I dont think its a smart move to switch from tmo to att because of the extra 10% savings. Im pretty sure atts prices are inflated above the 10% difference. If you really wanted to save money then you can just switch your tmobile plan from your unlimited everything. If you switch your texting to google voice you can save $20 a month just from that. You can lower your minutes and start using sipdroid for your calls and have virtually unlimited free calls as long as you have decent data connection or wifi, and you can use your tmobile minutes as a backup.
So if you really wanted to get creative and still have a virtually unlimited plan you can sign up for the 500 minute plan on tmobile for $29.99, and get on the $10 web2go plan (this is the reason alone why i wont upgrade my phone for a long long time). $40 a month, and no contract.

2 questions... how do I get on web2go plan. And how do I use gvoice for texting?
pretty sure web2go is one of the old grandfathered plans the only way you have it is if you stuck with your plan and never changed it.
T-mobile just like other carriers play dirty tricks with plans to get their money back from subsidized phones.
i for example recently went the route of buying a used N1 for more than a G2 would have cost me subsidized up front because i'm on a grandfathered G1 data plan so currently i pay 55 dollars a month for 300 min 400 texts and unlimited data. i dont talk or text enough on my phone to justify more so its the cheapest thing for me to do is stick with it. if its not enough for me at some point i can upgrade to the even more whatever base plan without contract because i'm out of contract on my G1 now and it will run me 60 a month for 500 anytime unlimited text and data. had i bought a subed G2 i would have had to pay 80 a month for the same exact plan that is 60 off contract.
from what i have seen ATT is about 20 dollars more a month for the base plan that you would want on a N1 or other similar phone and as i said before in my experience at least in the SF bay area coverage is equal between t-mobile and ATT for the most part, maybe a slight edge to ATT in some places but for the most part the same.
Sprint is the only carrier that i have seen that comes close to the cost of T-mo and even with a subed phone like a EVO 4G your only looking at 70ish a month for a comparable plan but its nice staying off contract because it gives me more options in the not so distance future

I signed up just last week with tmobile and picked the $10 unlimited internet for phone option which is the same as web2go. Log into your tmobile account and go to add services, and there should be $10 unlimited mobile web for phones. Just make sure you do it before tmobile changes to the tiered plans, and set your device as being a dumbphone. Set your apn settings to internet2.voicestream.com and it will be good to go.
For google voice texting you just use the built in google voice application, or the normal contact list on your phone. It will send texts out from your google voice number. I sent one massive text out to all my contacts telling them my google voice number was my new main number. Might seem like a pain telling people a new number but after you do this it will help you out in the long run. You can setup sipdroid for free calls and all incoming and outgoing calls from your google voice number can be made without the use of any minutes if you have data/wifi. I made a step by step guide for that at this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8813244&postcount=18
I went the other way and am never going back to att!
My plan right now costs half of what att used to charge me
go tmo!
Ps: usually the discount only applies to the main line.
on both networks
Ok so tmobile has a nice.plan with 5gb, 100 mins and unlimited texting for $30.00. My question is would this plan work on my streak 7. Don't care about the calling or texting just the data plan. I have simple mobile with the $40 plan and ddata does work so I figure the tmobile one should work as well. Hve u guys tried this?
Its not a phone, so your minutes and texting won't work, and I am doubtful the data would work as well.
You wont be able to use cell phone plan and insert the sim card with the Dell streak 7.
You will need a tablet data plan In order for it to work.
And with prepaid tablet data plan you wont get unlimited texting.
with postpaid tablet data plan you can add unlimited texting.
I have simple mobile nd my voice plan with data works on the tablet. Just data. no texting no calling. I don't have a tmobile sim card with me to try it out.
I want that 30 plan bcuz it has 5gbs.of data. I dont ccare about the calling or texting but the 5gb. I rather pay 30 than like 50 for just 2 or 3gb
Depends on their policy more then anything else. Texting requires a phone number(?) but tablets dont get numbers since they cant call, otherwise it's just (a special type of) data.
Carriers like to charge different amounts for different device classes, so it might not apply to a tablet or something.
I have a data only plan from t-mobile and they do give the tablet a phone number. Seems odd to me but they do.

They give it a phone number so that they can SMS you messages when you get near your limit, or near the end of your 30 days. Their system was built around doing SMS for activations as well. They could rearchitect to use email, but since phone companies have numbers "lying around", it's just as easy to give you the number.
As for the 5 Gig/$30 option, I wish they would do that for us, but they have told myself and others on multiple occasions that this is a WalMart special - which suggests that WalMart may be subsidizing some or all of these plans. $50/3 Gigs isn't horrible - particularly considering the equivalent plans (and costs) at Verizon and AT&T.
My .02 worth of course.
I got the plan in an effort to keep my # at a lower cost... Only texting works... The 3g & 4g show but wont go out... Update: wont get SMS messages either..! Now this really sucks...
I have the tmobile branded dell streak... Tried to upgrade it to hc3.2 but some match error came up...
Anyway wifi everything works fine...
I called tmo they told me I need a broadband plan... =/ And that it only works on walmart purchased phones... Considering that its mostly a data and text plan you would think more would fly... It has 100 voice min so whatever there...
Anyone know of a loophole..?
I read somewhere that only walmart sold phones can be used as so; and if you update your streak7 the wrong file it could change ones imei # so becareful there but some pm me if they know where im going with this...
SMS started working all of a sudden...
Hey guys, I had my lost my HTC One...I know, This sucks... And I was piss drunk, I had sent a few texts and I remember meeting a REALLY HOT girl that night, but don't remember her name or number...I think I sent her an MMS, and I can't see what number an MMS is sent to which SUCKS, I filed a warrantly claim, But does anyone know if AT&T knows what number the MMS was sent to?
Yes, in America the NSA, FBI, CSI, PPI is tracking everything you do, so im sure they will know who you sent the MMS to . it would usually be in the calls history section in your account
sure, making a call to NSA should get all your private data back
I don't know how AT&T works. But in China, the operator can give you a list of all the calls, messages, and mobile data usage in recent 3 months back in time.
You could try Plan B on google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en
Plan B says "NOTE: Plan B only works with 2.0 - 2.3 versions of Android", which unfortunately won't be helpful on the HTC One.
Try to ask your provider. They are the ones who (besides the NSA) should know where your MMS were going
