Since I updated to EC02 my auto rotation is not working with ext 4 kernel.
This only happens when I update the kernel to an ext 4 kernel. I have tried all the various ext 4 kernels and no-matter which I use it breaks the auto rotation breaks
I have tried all the obvious fixes like the lock in the notification and do not have a widget that ever locked the auto rotation.
As long as I am running a stock kernel I am good but as soon as the ext 4 converts it breaks.
I can manually rotate the screen but no auto rotate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am at my wits end
I just reverted back to the DJ11 firmware and the auto rotation works just fine even with the ext4 kernel. For some reason when I am running the EC02 Firmware with a ext4 kernel my auto rotation will not work

I am new to the tab I have the same problem. Is there a way to manually rotate the screen?
I'm having the same problem on my Verizon Galaxy Tab 7. I followed this guide:
gizmoninja.com/2011/04/21/how-to-root-latest-samsung-galaxytab-verizon-update-ec02/
and i run into the EXACT same problem as you.
Mind telling me how you manually rotate? an app or widget or something?
I am have the same issues:
Screen won't rotate
and it broke Swype
Any fixes?

I've looked at this guide on gizmoninja and can someone tell me why we need to run the update script from VZW that takes the Tab to EC02 and then flash the Heimdall files from this guide for EC02? Is it because those files are already rooted and that's the only way to root EC02? My Tab was originally branded for US Cellular and I flashed it to VZW DJ11 and then did a manual root. Any ideas??
Just do the ec02 files and forget the dj11 and update. That's what I did. Rotation fix is page 61 of the v5. Sensor file has to be replaced. Make sure you unzip it with 7zip. I found out the hard way. That's when I tried just the ec02 and then the v5 kernel shortcut. Now it rotates after changing the file and permissions, then reboot.

For those who down play twitter, this is why it can be good. Samsung has released a direct way to get the JI6 update without waiting for OTA via Mini Kies(really? lol). So for those who want it that way, here you go

JI6 Update problems
Okay, now after updating through Kies Mini, I keep getting errors:

android.process.media
com.android.calendar
etc... has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
and then you have to hit "Force Close"
...anyone know how to fix this?
Stock Vibrant
Lag Fix & Root
...FIXED
I just flashed to stock and then to JI6 with ODIN and now everything works.
after updated, my phone now stuck at bootscreen
i updated mines successfully..
please be AWARE that you have to DISABLE any lagfix before performing this update or else you may soft brick your phone. if you soft-bricked, i suggest flashing back to stock JFD build via ODIN and then update to ji6 via Kies Mini.
also be sure your usb debugging is on.
i also suggest you refer to the samsung kies mini thread that was originally posted in the vibrant general section since most have shared their experiences with updating there.
so according to the site,,, GPS fix is not included in JI6, it will be available in a few weeks...

My friend got the update OTA and is able to see fandango.
i did it successfully but don't see the fandango app either
duno what's going on there
How can I download this update!!! Stupid me hit cancel instead of install when i got my notification for it. I cant figure out how to update it now.
not updating?
i spoke to my local tmobile rep about what this update is really about and if it's even worth it for me to update...he's rooted and running ryans lagfix, one of the gps fixes and some other goodies like myself, his opinion, not worth it...wait for 2.2.
so i'm ignoring this update, any opinions?
Kies Mini Clockwork flashable
If anybody is interested, I have thrown together a Clockwork flashable JI6 update for personal use. There are 2 versions.
*Warning, proceed at your own risk as I cannot and will not be held responsible for your actions. Always perform a ClockWork ROM backup before flashing. The same rules apply regarding lag fixes as all other ROMs.
1st - This will wipe your data!!!
2nd - No format included (While this will not wipe your data, you will loose root and any installed mods... I recommend using the 1st dl if your coming from anything other than stock or leaked)

If this is a question regarding missing applications in the Market...
Quoting from this thread. The directions below worked for me running JI6. Just make sure to look for UVJI6 on both lines, rather than UVJI2. FYI, I changed them back after I downloaded and installed all of my apps in hopes of Google rectifying the issue (assuming it's on their end).
++++how to fix missing apps in the market++++
Missing market apps with new firmwares is always an issue because the market does not recognize the fingerprint. You need to be rooted and should open the file /system/build.prop in a text editor Scroll down till you come to the section titled # Do not try to parse ro.build.description or .fingerprint. After this are two lines, on which the name of the firmware will be stated as T959UVJI2. Change the ast three letters in the name on both lines to JFD. Then save the file and reboot, and then go to market and download and install a couple of apps. After this the missing apps will show up again and won't go away until you install another unofficia firmware Last.
+++ Thank rajendra82 for this market fix, works great +++

THANK YOU! I haven't been able to get the OTA (been prompted 5/6 times) and didn't want to wipe with Odin. Everything appears to have worked with no issues and no wiping.
I seem to have a recurring problem with my root on the FireFly 2.8 rom, though it may have been present on Serendipity and I never noticed.
My problem is this: Before I flashed FireFly, I used Odin to revert to stock 2.1, master cleared, and then rooted using the One Click Galaxy S root, which worked fine. I was able to flash the rom using CWM and Titanium Backup as well as other apps that require root said they had proper permissions.
At some point, I do not know where, I lost my root. Now, when I try to use Titanium Backup or Firefly fixes, the app tells me Root access FAILED.
I have superuser as well as the current busybox. Can anyone help me with possibly telling me how to enable my root or how to reroot if necessary?
I have tried z4root but it never does anything anymore.
And when I try to use the One Click Root again I can not click "reinstall packages" because I am taken to CWM instead of regular recovery.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
You probably converted system to ext4. Go back into Recovery and go to the features of whatever kernel u are using and reapply root.
Sent from my Captivate running Continuum 4.0 with Onix 2.0.5.
I was neveraware you had to reroot after converting the system to EXT4. Worked like a charm though! Thanks for your help.
#1 in CWM "reinstall packages" is the 2nd option down! called "apply update.zip" (kinda makes sense doesnt it?)
#2 if you have CWM you can root without one click root.
boot to CWM recovery> Clockwork Features > root + install superuser
adv
Edit: Nevermind, looks like someone already solved your problem while I was typing my BS out.

You don't normally have to....
I has this same problem with FireFly 2.8. I never had that issue with older versions of FF. But, as mentioned, if you reapply root in CWM, it works again.
I love the FF themes, and stability, but I may go back to FF 2.6. FF 2.7 had charging death for me, and FF 2.8 I have issues with keep the lights on. That's how I found my root issue. Now, with the root fixed, keep the lights on seems to disable itself after a while. Definately after every reboot it turns back off. I never had this issue before with cog, perception, or any of the earlier FFs.

Your rom probably came with a kernel that implemented lagfix upon first boot. It happens if you manually apply lagfix as well and re-rooting in CWM works like a charm all the time.

All the FireFly versions I have used have the lagfix optional, and applied through CWM, but 2.8 is the first one that applying the lagfix affected the root of the ROM. I also didn't have this issue with Cognition or Perception, both of which apply the lagfix on first boot.
So the kernel is the issue, not the ROM? A different kernel may fix this?

Yes and no. losing root from converting system to ext4 or back to rfs, can happen with any kernel, and for the charge death that was the onix kernel in those versions. The keep the lights on, does that kernel have bln options in cwm? I use sp voodoo do idk.
i have never lost root converting my system
but i havent converted it in over a month. Just leave it EXT4 when i upgrade/change roms.
havent had any problems not converting it so i dont bother. (except going to stock)
but when i used to convert back and fourth every flash out of fear... NEVER LOST ROOT
I've only lost root converting on Continuum but never on FireFly or Apex so not sure if it is kernel or rom.

Yes FF 2.8 has bln options in CWM. I have issues with bln active or disabled (in FF 2.8). I have not tried managing the bln with the app from the market, would that make a difference (vs managing bln in CWM)?

I have searched thoroughly through the various CWM and OC Kernel threads but it's not clear to me if I can achieve having ClockworkMod Recovery and an Overclocked Kernel running on a Sprint (CDMA) Tab without any issues with the GPS or Camera.
I am perfectly fine running the stock Samsung ROM, but want to be able to overclock to 1.4GHz and be able to run CWM so that I can at least be able to do nandroid backups. From what I gather some of these CWM solutions and OC kernels (which may be really designed for Verizon Tabs and not Sprint Tabs) may cause issues with the GPS and/or Camera. I cannot afford to lose those two functions of the Tab.
So for those Sprint owners out there, what has worked for you to get a working CWM and OC kernel without sacrificing the GPS and Camera? Thanks!
apparently this isn't possible? it's a shame...as if a CDMA Tab were bad enough, it looks like the Sprint one is the true ugly stepchild of the bunch.
The VooDoo CDMA Kernel that I just flashed appears to have a working FF and RF camera as well as working GPS.
I'm pretty new to the SGS scene so I may not be talking about the same thing you are.

Awesome! So you are using a Sprint Tab? And you can run Google Maps or Navigation and it locks your location using GPS? I just want to be sure before I proceed down this path, since I've read about some users not being able to get their GPS to operate once they've borked it.
And if you don't mind me asking, how did you get the VooDoo CDMA Kernel on there? Did you first install v4 through SGS Kernel Flasher or perhaps Heimdall? And then you installed v5 through CWM?
Thanks!
Yes, Sprint Tab (I just got it from the most recent woot sale).
Google Maps locked to my location within 20 meters inside of my office, and then dead on my front door just now. I turned my WIFI off to make sure it was really the GPS. I started up Navagation and it showed waiting for GPS for a about 2 seconds before starting with the turn by turn.
I have taken pictures with the RF and FF camera but I haven't tried a video chat so that might not work. When I take a picture the preview does glitch out on the screen a bit but the picture is just fine.
I flashed the latest version directly through SGS Kernal Flasher. I don't have the files in front of me but I just followed the directions in the OP.
The issue that I had was my auto-rotation wasn't working. I found the file to replace in the thread but root explorer wasn't recognizing my SD card until I turned off the VooDoo enhancements in CWM and then turned them back on as specified by the troubleshooting section of the OP. At that time I was able to replace the file to restore auto-rotate.
Please keep in mind that while I am not new to Android I am quite new to the SGS so do plenty of reading and keep in mind that this is just my experience (or inexperience) with it and I may just have gotten lucky.
Also, I do NOT have data services through Sprint, I am using WIFI only so I can't speak to the effects of the Kernel on that.
Good luck!
Thats pretty awesome, atleast we have an alternative until Samsung hopefully release the 3.34 for all G tab owners.

Thanks again. This is really helpful. But from what I understand the latest version (v5) is only updatable through CWM. v4 can be flashed through SGS Kernel Flasher. Is it possible you're not running v5?

Correct. I'm looking at the files now and I used SGS Flasher to do the v4 (step 1) and then CWM to do the v5.zip (step 2). If there is a way to verify which Kernel, let me know and I'll double check.

Hmm, for some reason I cannot get v4 flashed using either SGS Flasher or Heimdall. I first got the latest OTA update (build EB28) before doing this however, so I'm not sure if that is an issue. Can you confirm you were or are on build EB28 (under Settings -> About My Galaxy Tab)?

Sounds like you had EB28 even before you did the flash. SGS runs fine. It says the kernel flashed successfully, but upon reboot the Tab is just stuck at the Samsung boot screen. I cannot even enter Recovery (using Vol Up + Power).
I've reverted to stock and have tried a few times all with the same result (even tried Heimdall and Odin).
There has to be something different between our Tabs that would cause the issue I'm seeing.
After the EB28 update, I have the following:
Hardware version: P100.08
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: S100.08 S.EB28
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: SPH-P100.EB28
Unless you have something different in one of the above, I'm at a bit of a loss. I may need to go some alternative route.
The first OTA on my device is downloaded, but not installed, and I'm curious if I should even take them at all?
I currently have the following:
Hardware version: SPH-P100.08
Model number: SPH-P100
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: S100.08 S.DJ29
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: SPH-P100.DJ30
I'd like some type of recovery and eventually HC... boy these Sprint tabs, and tabs in general, are funky compared to my Incredible.

Well seems like I solved my problem. Not entirely sure why, but when I swapped in a small 1GB sdcard I was able to flash this Kernel without issue. Using the 16GB card that came with the Sprint Tab didn't work.

Maybe a format issue? That's interesting...
I had a similar issue with the 16gb card. put a 2gb card in, and was able to flash the kernel and then get into CWM. sadly once I got that far it didn't seem to matter what rom/kernel i tried it wouldn't boot past the samsung logo anymore. So back to stock rooted for now I guess.. Really want to play with the HC port, but not sure why it won't work. Also can't seem to get Heimdall to recognize my Tab, Odin works fine however.
another new Sprint SGT owner from Woot sale here. Also just flashed the Voodoo OC kernel last night, all seems well camera and GPS etc, I have no idea if 3g works as there is no Sprint in my state.
I flash the V5 using a guide I found over on the unlocker site. took several tries before I got it to go, lots of command line stuff and I think I had a few typos along the way.
Another woot sprint tab user here... I also have "KhasMek Voodoo Plus v5" installed on my tab but GPS does not work for me. Well, it has never worked for me even with stock kernel and EA24 ROM.
Any other woot user with a none working GPS straight out of box?
Update: GPS will not lock if Sprint tab is in airplane mode. Even though by the window works for my HTC hero phone but not the tab. It needs to be outdoor in order to get proper GPS signal.
Hi guys,
Having abit of a problem with my SGS where the auto rotate is not working, this is after updating to Gingerbread 2.3.3 I9000XXJVK
Auto rotation was working when i was running froyo 2.2
Did a google which brought me to this forum and have read the thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=816131&page=6
However most of them are referring to 2.2 froyo? as i can't seem to find the files from the thread using rootexplorer:
data/system and delete ms3c_yamaha.cfg
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha
Things I've done:
Checked that both Auto rotation option is ticked at taskbar and Settings
Calibrated
Did the *#0*# and the magnetic and accel sensor both didn't move at all when i move the phone
Did factory reset (wipe everything)
Reflash the Gingerbread to phone but still same
There is new gingerbread xxjvr, try this one

Hey guys,
I tried rooting using these instructions. Two problems:
1. Every time I reboot, the screen is fine, but it responds as though the orientation is landscape, not portrait.
2. When I try to flash the CM9 ROM, it tells me in recovery that it can't see my sd card. I'm on the latest recovery.
The tablet was fine before, I wiped fully. Any thoughts about that?

You must have ROM with EXT4 system file before upgrading/flashing to ICS CM9, the best way is using overcome kernel 4.0, follow overcome website to doing this.
and for rooting I sugested you use CF ROOT it's safe and simple way, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885734
Do you have cdma or GSM tab?
If cdma, don't go overcome way.
I don't have cdma tab though, can't help.
