FW's fron Samfirmware - Protected or Unprotected? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell how to know if the firmware from samfirmware has protected bootloader?
Also, what happens if you have unprotected bootloader then you flash samfirmwares protected bootloader?
Thanks!

New requirements for odin flashing?

I haven't used odin for a few month as all my flashing has been done using CWM. I'd like to flash the latest 2.2.1 as stock and mod from there with hardcore kernel and a couple of other things.
On samfirmware it say you have to have your phone unlocked. Has this always been the case or am I safe to flash just like I have before? When I did it before I had no issues.
Thanks

I'm on MIUI and I want to go back to JL2

Hi I'm on miui and I am looking for the safest way to go back to jl2.. just wondering if I can flash the firmware from samfirmware with no pit and no repartition with Odin. Thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
preferably you should be using a 3 file firmware with pit and re-partition if you want to go back to stock.
otherwise you may encounter some errors, due to system files / settings being kept on the phone from the MIUI ROM
Thanks... do u know where I can find a bell stock 3 file firmware?

Dowgrading official firmwares?

Hi,
I would just like to ask if it is possible to flash from a newer firmware back to an older one via Odin?
For example: My phone is on official JVS, can I downgrade it back to JVR/JVQ?
Is it possible to flash back from JVR to JVQ? I was thinking because they use the same CSC.
Thanks!
Yes u can downgrade....find firmware at www.samfirmware.com and u can flash any firmware any time.

Follow this and make sure repartition is checked in Odin so you can wipe the phone before installing the fw.
But ya you can go from Froyo to GB and back whenever you want on the SGS...

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else can confirm that downgrading official firmwares is possible? Just want to make 100% sure before I do.
Thanks in advance.

I've upgraded and downgraded ROMs, custom and stock, using clockworkmod recovery.
The first root I did on my phone I used Odin, but the flash came with clockworkmod built in, so never needed to use Odin again.
I feel much more at ease using the recovery mode than through Odin for many reasons, but that's just my opinion, I'm sure it works fine if you follow all the steps.

[Q] On LPF - Back to GB reverting Bootloader?

Hi folks,
I have gone from GB (official) > LPY > LPF inc. the new bootloader.
Question is, is there any way of getting back to the original XEU bootloader to make the phone completely like out of the box?
Being an ICS bootloader, will this effect GB operation?
Thanks
I just flash germany LC1 using PC odin which is a 1 file ROM, and seems the bootloader is reverted to old one.
Ahh excellent. I have the 1 file XEU GB rom but there is nothing inside it for Bootloader.

ICS bootloader won't affect you in any way if you just flash any GB Rom, with or without its own bootloader.
But what about warranty purposes?

I don't think they can even see what bootloader you've got. Kernel is another
matter, though.

[Q] CSC folder lost ? [SOLVED]

Hi,
My note just works great on LRQ , Hydracore OC and Nova Prime Beta.
Not much to wish for....
However when I checked, I had CSC unknown., and the folder is missing from system.
My Note is a DBT model from Germany.
I once rooted with the temporary CWM when it was still considered safe.
Hydracore was installed with Mobile Odin Lite
LRQ was installed with Mobile Odin Lite, just i just put the file in system, and Hydracore (and root) stayed as they were, and never had the new german bloatware installed too(?)
I don't know when I lost the CSC in the previous steps.
Anyways, now there is the new LRT, how can I flash this, and get the CSC back?
Just flash the md5 with Mobile Odin (now pro), or open de md5 and flash seperate parts exept the kernel?
Thanks for think with me,

Do I have an EFS backup?
Anyways,
Loaded the LRT md5 in Mobile Odin, unchecked the kernel, did not use inject su ...
Rom installed fine, kept root, removed the bloatware.
But, still no CSC ???
It seems one can live without it, but it would be nice to have it back, I think.... ?

Or is this csc connected with other data of tbe phone?
Maybe some one has a DBT LRT csc folder I can put in system?

Did that, and no change, still no CSC...
Maybe a stupid question, but, if I just copy a /system/csc folder from another Note running DBT LRT to my note, would that solve the problem?
I have no CSC folder in my system...
Otherwise, Note is just running fine...
If you have correct CSC (check with *#272*IMEI#)
then nothing to do.
Yes there was something to do.
I have extracted cache.img
and then copied the csc and T9DB folders and CSCFiles.txt, CSCVersion.txt and SW_Configuration.xml to system....
Now csc is reported again by *#1234# and also by the SAMMOBILE firmware info tool.
(oh, btw, you gave a link to the LRQ cache.img, not the LRT I am using)

If you know Lrt is lrq +5mb so you can understand csc of lrq and Lrt have no practical difference
For acknowledge I have even used gb csc for ics too.
And when csc get screw you can't stamp single solution to work for all.
Flashing csc works in most of the case.

The cache.img of LRT and LRQ are exactly the same size. The content however is one letter different, here and there.
