Yea so I live in Canada and I want to get the tab but galaxy tab 10.1 is gonna be coming out soon here so is this getting honeycomb? because if it is ill get it then and just wait for the upgrade but if it isnt then ill just wait for the 10.1 to come out.
I'm pretty sure the Galaxy Tab is not getting 3 (honeycomb). It's supposed to get 2.3 (gingerbread) from what I've read. The deal is because this Tab is not dual core - and i think theyre modeling honeycomb on it.

Correct that the tab will never officially get honey comb, incorrect about the reason, any device that was released with 2.2 isn't allowed the hc update, I guess its to stop the 5million cheap China tablets from giving it a bad name.
I'd wait and get the 8.9 tab
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
If you can get it at a good price, it is worth the purchase. I recently got it because it was being sold cheap and a 7" tab is just the right size for me. a 8.9" would be too big.
I just brought one from Futureshop for $150 on a 3 year contract with Rogers on their Flex plan starting at $20/month for 500mb with next tier at $35 for 5 gig

Wow thanks!
I JUST bought a new NOOK and was about to root and install cyanogen then I saw this post while looking for the repartitioning thread.
This is a good deal, and I'm in for one. Not sure if I should return the Nook now.
Thanks!
I had the WIFI only version this past weekend and returned it when I found out the internals are different and the current roms aren't made for it so I shipped it right back and now 1 day later this shows up

Thanks for the link, very interesting comparisson...
Gah, I want this so much. But I already got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 on pre-order too.
I don't know if that review is still valid. Wasn't there an article recently on EnGadget stating that Samsung said the WiFi only Galaxy Tab does not have as good of hardware as the 3G version of the Tab? Isn't it running the same processor as the Nook Color? Might want to double check those facts and head on over to EnGadget for a quick search.
I guess it doesn't matter...its sold out now. LOL But I also see it was the 3G model. I'll leave the above info lest someone be duped when buying a WiFi only after reading this thread.
I got the 3G AT&T version of the Galaxy Tab for $199 (no contract) + tax from last week. It was refurbed as well but looked like new to me. Flashed Overcome Gingerbread ROM on it and it really flies. As much as I love my NC and like tinkering with it, the galaxy tab is better built and feels more balanced in the hand. Main thing is that the touch response seems very accurate and smooth as compared to the Nook.
The NC was the best choice price/perf wise at release but if you can get your hands on a cheap galaxy tab you wont be disappointed.
I still have a soft corner for the NC so I am going to gift the galaxy tab to my wife who did not really take to the NC primarily because of the softkeys and the touch response.
SOLD OUT !

i would beleive Anandtech over Engadget when it comes to tech reviews and analysis.

damn. good deal. cant believe i missed out on this. I really need a good 7" tablet for the girlfriend. o well.
I'm shopping for a 7" wifi tab to replace a PlayBook. As an Epic 4G owner (I love this phone) the GT really intrigues me and seems like a natural fit. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't get a Galaxy Tab? What alligators are waiting to bite me on the butt?
Im very particular when it comes to high end tech devices. I did loads of research on tabs and there arent really any successors to the galaxy tab in the 7" range yet. Ive had my tab a little over a week now and its my favorite pmp by far. Only downside is single core processor but shouldnt matter unless youre into the new demanding games. This thing runs super smooth as is. Throw in a overclock and custom rom and i have yet to see it stutter!
Id suggest stalking slickdeals and auction sites. Got mine for 225

Thanks for the reply. I've got a bid in on a refurb Sprint GT, if that falls through, I'll probably wait until Sept and see what the new season brings.
I sold my iPod touch about a year ago and went through the archos 43, cowon d3, pre ordered an 8gb samsung galaxy player, finally canceled that and bought the tab. Playing the waiting game in between all of those really sucked. Good luck

I'm getting the 7.7 for sure when it is out!
I was debating whether to get an iPad2 whilst on holiday in Florida as prices are cheaper than UK.
But then the 7.7 came out!

Hi, I have an Archos 70 Internet Tablet, and I'm going to upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy TAB 7.7, as soon as it's on the stores.
May be if available in Europe !

I'll be getting it as soon as it comes to Canada. I've been waiting for this tablet for quite some time.
if they sell it in US and the price is under $400, then I will get one. I have both Galaxy tab 7 and 10.1.
To be honest, I love my tab 7 more since it so easy to hold and most of the apps/games are compatiable with Gingerbread.
10.1 is nice and fast.. but it is a little bit too thin and too large. hahah.. I am probably the only one to complain the "thin".
Anyways, the 8.9 is still too large to hold by one hand (I have a small hand) as well as my 5 years son.
Tab 7 is almost perfect for me except the CPU is a little bit slow, there are some lagging..opening apps/games..
So, 7.7 is dual-core (small size) is perfect for me. Hope Samsung keeps the price low.. Anyways, I am selling the 10.1 Anyone?

I'm thinking about jumping over to the xoom or acer a500, i am really cheesed off with the lack of support from samsung.
I bought my P1000, 3 days ago.. So now I am still ultra-happy..
I saw that 7.7'' but when will it come out..I could not wait..
I LOVE that amoled screen (after some time using P1000 than switch to My Galaxy S phone to do something.. only then I see that BIG diference between screens)
Anyway what is most important to me and if someone can answer me, as far as I can see this new tablet 7,7' will NOT have that she.t of nVidia Tegra..
So can I presume that new tablet it will support all video codec's as Tab P1000?
If it will I am definitely selling this (new one ) and geting 7.7..
Definitely gonna upgrade, but I dont think its gonna come out soon
and before that, I would love to taste the Ice Cream Sandwich 1st on the original tab
if the taste is good enough, i might prolong my tab life before upgrading since ICS is newer than honeycomb and prolly have better features too
I would never get an iPAD unless the incorporate some sort of cell phone capability, be it a remote device that belt clips with a display or actually on the ipad.
I love the SGT 7" that I have, it is perfect, for cell calls, and surfing the web. Think carefully, do you REALLY want to help the Apple machine make more money?
Does anyone know when it is coming out?
Actually when the last Galaxy tab 7 was released, could we buy it unlocked somewhere?
I ask because I need the new 7.7 to work with Bell. I already have a Bell 3g SIM card ready to go.
Thanks
If I could I would.
Once I have the money for the tab 7.7 ill definetley buy it.

Let's see, it's 7.7 so that's too big for a small tablet, won't fit in a pocket any more...
It runs Honeycomb rather than a phone version of android, I don't like honeycomb on larger tablets and surly its even worse on smaller screens... I have also yet to see an ambled screen that beats a common LCD (Galaxy Tab 7, iPhone 4, iPad all look much better than the Galaxy S 2 screen and it's supposed to be one of the best).
That means it can't replace my Galaxy Tab and it can't replace my iPad as it's smaller and would be missing some apps (mail and calendar for starters, android just can't compete with on that front IMO)...
So no, I won't be downgrading any of my current tablets
i like my galaxy tab 7 but im not sure if im going to invest in any more Samsung devices after they kinda wrote off this device as a red headed step child.
Ive put some thought into it and either the 7.7 or 8.9 would be nice i love the fact the 7 fits in my pocket. 7.7 has what i want and that's honey comb tables I'm a medical student and some of the apps like Google body are very useful.
So ya i think I'm gonna hop ship to 7.7 just hope there's a lot of good development on it get rid of that tw ux garbage
correction if http://sammyhub.com/2011/09/05/galaxy-tab-7-7-and-galaxy-note-pricing-for-scandinavian-countries/ is correct then no i will not be upgrading that's some insane pricing.
After using my tab as my phone for 12 months I've recently got myself a SGS2. I love the s2 and I really must disagree in regards to screen and picture quality. The S2 is far superior to my eyes. I miss my tab though, and have found it is used as a wifi device around my home as my primary portal to interwebs and the world! Its perfect and with the car kit set up in my kitchen (suction cup works well on my benchtop) it is extremely convenient and I love how connected I feel even when cooking breakfast! Its fantastic. The S2 is about to be violated and I'm hoping this'll breath new life into it but I can absolutely see myself going back to a tablet of around 7 or 8" and don't ever carry my 7" tab in my pocket so would lean towards the larger device... I would like to see a device that is a phone that goes inside a tablet that docks either @ your entertainment hub or in your car or both. The phone would be the primary CPU and such with each step providing supplementary hardware enhancing the GPU and CPU and memory extra. Or a more solid mirroring across devices.. its frustrating not being able to just put one device down and being able to continue seamlessly on another device.. its kinda exciting when you think how easy some of this would be with current tech.
I have more ideas.... but I've said too much already.. patents pending Nobleskill Inc.
;-)

I'll get the Galaxy Tab Plus, not the 7.7 one.
7.7'' is too large for my pockets and if a tab is not pocketable then it's useless to me. The Galaxy Tab Plus will have Android 3.2 and the same 7'' screen as the current tab. I'll stick to this form-factor forever (or just not upgrade my tab :-D).
Here's more info on the Tab Plus: http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/20/galaxy-tab-spotted-7-inch-honeycomb-tablet-t-mobile/
Dont think I will
I have been using the 7" for about six months and it satisfies everything I need. I can do my work on the go, remote some PC's that need fixing, surf, youtube and even gaming!!!
I don't think I will upgrade just for the sake of having a faster device as I haven't noticed any slowdown on this device.
The screen on this device I think is brighter than the s2 screen and clearer, maybe amoled is only for people with blue eyes!!!
Is there any hope for the galaxy tab 7', their is hardly any development for it. Its been like a year now and they only have like four roms for it....
don't do it yet me and oldmacnut are trading tabs he can't test 3g cause he had a sprint tan and he's on verizon I'm on sprint with a verizon tab were planning on putting a lot of work into this nice device.

you must be crazy, the gtab is pawning all tegra 2 tablets so hard when it comes to playing hd movies its not even funny anymore, it came to a point where I wish I was able to scream and shout (with vulgarities included) at the dicko from Nvidia who came up with that incredibly stupid processor.
for myself , i bought the galaxy tab 10.1 3g , and i still have my gtab use it as a phone xD
I just bought one after lots of research into 7" tabs. I think it's the best 3G tab on the market still. What other 7" tabs can compare to it?

I don't see what difference development makes, if it fills your needs for a tablet, why sell it? If it doesn't fill your needs for a tablet, why wouldn't you? Mine still fills it's role just fine and it still fits in my pocket...a leading reason why I still have it and my iPad was stolen.
I just bought mine (seven days ago) because still it's one of the best tablets..for me at least..
I needed tablet which will suport ALL video formats and this little guy is doing that perfectly..
Only time whan I will consider replacing it, is when 7.7" comes out.. (but I think that price will be ridiculous, so..) because of SAMOLED and as far as I can see i don't have that retarded Tegra crap..
PS.
Only thing I would like to know is - Can we expect Ice Cream for our P1000?
If the galaxy tab had a keyboard dock like the transformer, I'd keep it for a long time

As I recall from somewhere I read, Samsung / Google guarantee that android device would get at least 2 OS updates
since we didnt get honeycomb, i think even Samsung will give ICS for us 7 tab owner
especially if the other smartphone that starts with froyo with roughly same specs can get ICS maybe, why wouldn't we?

For $150 the S7 is still a good deal.
Looking at reviews for the Gtab2 7", it might be a good sucessor to the S7 now.
The Gtab1 7" didnt compete with the S7 as it was around $325(?), but the Gtab2 7" is only $250 new.
For anyone looking at a ~$200 sucessor/replacement for the S7, the Gtab2 7" might be a good deal?
The only other real competetors in the ~$200 were previously the kindle fire and the nook, and the S7's definitely more powerful then those.
There's also the "nexus tab" that's been informally announced, that's supposedly to compete in the 7" range,
but it is supposedly going to be $200. Either goog will sell it at a loss (which is possible) or it wont be much faster then the S7 still.
(Tegra2 isnt new anymore, but it's by no means old yet)
If and when ICS becomes more mature for the S7 you can list it as a product point now (as far as we're concerned),
but it's still got a ways to go (not surprising though, you cant expect a stable port like this in this short time from 1-2 people).
The Gtab2 7" launches with ICS, I would expect the "nexus tab" will launch with ICS, and the kindle/nook are "android-flavored" and dont techincally run android (anything that doesnt have gapps is techincally not android as the android branding is licensed).
Whichever one you pick, I gotta say I definitely use my S7 a whole lot more then my S10.
7" tabs are a good sweet spot since 10" tabs have too much overlap with laptops.
Besides ICS on the S7, there really isnt anything a 7" cant do that a 10" can.
