Hello guys,
I have recently moved to jvo and installed the cf-root 3.2 root kernel.
My phone now is very responsive with almost no lag or delays.
My questions is what will be the advantages for changing the file system to ext4.
I will notice any improvement? Apps will open even faster? What would be the reason to convert to ext4?
And if I do so, there are any known issues that I should be aware of?
Is correct that after convert to ext4 I will not be able to move/update to stock roms without converting to RFS?
Thanks in advance for your answers and advises!

Yeah, ext4 is always better and makes things open faster coz the rfs system is quite counterproductive - it is not meant to work with the type of internal memory the sgs uses. And yeah, before flashing new Roms it is always advisable to change the system back to rfs
Thanks for theophilos answer.
I convert to ext4 finaly.
There is an improvement I must admit. Apps indeed open a bit faster and Google gestures are displaying results instantly.
Thanks again

would you please check "battery use" ? for the past a few weeks, after trying different kernels and gingerbreads, unfortunately cf-root 3.2 + jvo is the only combination i get the battery drain all the time..
I have never had strange drain issues. Battery usage appears to be normal with any rom I had so far.
Android os is always at normal levels and nothing extreme happens in my phone.

i have installed cf-root 3.2 on my SGS JVO. my phone battery also seems to drain fastly then normal. is there any issues regarding cf-root 3.2 for JVO.

Have a question for you guys.
What is the difference in JPU and JPX firmwares?
I have tried both and there doesn't seem to be any drastic changes. I know that the JPX is Official and for Europe. So does that mean JPU was only a beta version?
Kies is working on JPX. Yes JPU was a beta.
JPX is probably just more refined hence it's being released through Kies so Samsung are ready to go public with this firmware.
Also this should be in general.

Kies still not working in JPX..though the system is recognizing.. kies doesn't from inside the application!!!

Why you think JPU is beta and JPX official? Have you some evidence? Work by me werry well JPU long time, without any bugs or issue...
One question more, why we need Kies, if we now have OTA firmware updater inside phone? Kies is unneccesary in future for firmware updating on my opinion....
Regards
One more thing..Earlier JPU had an issue with contacts app still running.. Currently that is fixedd!!!

Yeah, something called test firmware and release firmware....
And only complete noobs actually use Kies - "pro" users havent used it since a week after buying the phone.
What about the Gallery Sensor Issue?

That bug was a deal killer for me with JPU, glad they sorted it with JPX (confirmed here with official JPX)

I`m still on JPU, coz Darkyy have not JPX
but Kalpic said JPU is beta from JPX
& dont have reason not belive him
Not that quadrant scores means squat, but JPX gives 1100 vs 1220 on JPU.

That Bug is currently fixed. After opening contacts. Press back. Open up task manager. YOU wont be able to find contacts as one of the running processes. So I pretty much feel that bug is fixed!!!

Is there any improvement in terms of bettery life with JPX over JPU? I am on Darky's 5.6 and while the battery life is certainly tolerable, its considerably lesser than older roms. If JPX can fix that, it would be awesome.

Battery life and GPS seem better for me however it is still early
As for me after i updated to official jpx from the beta jpu, battery now is fixed and not jumping from 100% to 98% right after un pluging the device. Samsung's Program monitor does the good job by ending the contacts right after you're done using the contacts app amazingly, its widget does not close or vanish right after you use it to un-install applications and stuffs, Good job Samsung! Keyboard is fixed, web browser is still the same you can open 4 pages and does not go beyond that like eclair's and froyo 2.2, but by default the plug-ins were set to "on demand" other significant features were improved like the new Vending market of android with top scrolling carousel of which isn't there on jpu 2.2.1. Less lags and no more forecloses. Root works only if you use "Super Oneclick". Wifi is good and works if your using it and disables if the screen is of (i set it to turn of if the screen is of) dis-organized apps inside TW. the rest is up for you guys to observe or to test the difference for you-selves.
Hi all,
Just wondering if anybody else gets extreme amounts of lag when updating or installing apps on their SGS. I just finished updating 10 apps and for about 10 minutes my phone was complety unusable - even after the process had finished I was running horribly and I ended up needing to restart as video was unwatchable.
Running docs rom 9.0.1 / BUJP8 on speedmod k9a with the advanced ext4 lagfix setup

Bump. This problem is killing an otherwise amazing device. I hate installing apps now, as I fear having to update them...
Please don't bump threads..
It's less noticeable in JPX though..
Sure did its to do with stock samsung and its rfs file system... Jpx is better but jpy is the only 'official' rom which is much better. Uses kies reg back to get this...
Better option is to download odin and flash voodoo v5.0.1 assuming you are on any 2.2.1 rom. This still fix all lag especially the killer lag you get installing apps.
Edit: sorry just noticed you are no noob, already running ext4? No idea why you are still getting lag, weird!

Hi,
I recently updated from an old 2.2 rom to 2.3.4, (surface rom), and have noticed that occasionally the phone seems to crash for no apparent reason. It is however, not a reboot, as far as I can tell. phone locks up, within 5-10 seconds i'll see lock screen, (there's no boot animation or anything, or error message), with all previously running applications closed. Can't reproduce reliably, last occurred when I was just listening to music on it.
Any idea what sort of crash/problem this is, and what might be affecting it? (ie launcher, rom, kernel etc)
Running surface rom, semaphore kernel, zeam launcher, not OC'ing
Thanks for any help!
Mate i think surface is not too much good....i think u should go with Blockbuster rom....u just flash and you ll find difference....if u like enery efficent then dnt flash anyother kernel remain on stock....and if u likr Overclocked kernel then go with GalaixanGt or Semaphore 1.5.0.....then u see the really stable and energy efficent rom.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hmm, so you think it's an issue with the rom?
Yes i try almost every rom from last few months there is some problem in this rom which needed to be fixed

I have galaxy s since last one year and i love it... However my phone has become very slow these days.. I tried several roms and kernels.. Formatted both internal and external SD cards... But still it is very slow... I remember that I dropped it 3-4 times... Is it because of it?
Can someone suggest me please... What should I do...

Maybe over clock it ...? I thought the new ROMs would have helped. It could be the fact that your phone is older now and some internal hardware has been worn out
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CM9 Nightly Kang (Build 5 of 2.1)
Eugene's Kernel (Speedy-7)
OC 1100/100 (lulzactivev2)

Can I do anything related to the hardware? I mean how can i check if it is not giving 100%?

I'm no expert so I'm not sure. Best bet would be to replace the hardware which Costs a ton of money. Its better to just a get a new phone. Either that or maybe mess around with new ROMs some more. Maybe you are wiping your phone incorrectly or maybe you use it too much

my suggest...
1. update your firmware to last version (2.3.6).
2. try to change kernel and custom rom.
3. maybe, with some different kernel and custom rom, you can choice the better option for your device. for example, try using kernel semaphore (gingerbread) and custom rom F1 or other.
I would be very surprised if physical trauma has simply caused a slow-down in speed. It would more likely show itself as random reboots and other more obvious symptoms.
Much like Windows, after a lot of use, it slows down - you have said that you've flashed other roms, maybe you just haven't come across a good one; there are after all a lot of different ones...
I would suggest the deodex-ed / rooted stock rom from RAMAD Gingerbread JVT. As I remember it was always quite stable and fast.
The hardware components inside a modern phone will not wear-out after a year - they are not moving parts! - when ram or a processor wears out it usually results in total system crashing not just a slow down.
Thank you all for your feedbacks and suggestions. I use my phone a lot. Usually i use TV out a lot as i do not have a cable connection in my hostel room. I use my phone a lot. I flashed it atleast more than 100 times. I have not seen any reboots, crashed , soft reboots etc very often. When i use MIUI rom my phone is very fast indeed however , it does not have a TV Out and therefore i have to use a stock based rom.. i will try Rammad's GB Rom as per your suggestion and will report back. As i told you that i dropped it a couple of times, is it possible that any of the Internal components have become loose?
Have you ever tried Advanced task killer? Or even killed tasks?

Try ICSSGS RC 4.2. I had the same situation as you. It was fine for one year and I was using Darky rom by that time. Suddenly I started feeling that my phone is too slow. Lot of stuck. Sometimes I had to remove battery just to restart.
Now running above ICS rom with Devil 14.2 Kernel its rocking ...
yeah I'd suggest u the advanced taskkiller too
in options you can set the auto killlevel to safe, so that it kills smth like games in the background but not important apps
since then my phone is quite fast even with stockrom

Yeah, and you can just use the ATK widget when you close out of something press the icon and it kills all the background apps...
I will surely try ATK and ICS roms as per your suggestions...

Just get stock jw1, flash with reparation to wipe everything, then do a factory reset via secret dial code. Now install semaphore 2.5.0 kernel. Dl superuser to get root. Now install thunderbolt tweaks the main package and the 60lmk other addon(read thread how to) . This is the best setup i can think of in terms of speed bat life and functionality. Next step look in pikachus Android optimization thread and remove the bloatware listed there, basically remove as much bloat as possible. Enjoy ur fast phone.

Perhaps you should try the ICSSGS RC4.2 with Devil 14.2 LED VC Kernel. I'm on it and its awesome, my phone lags no more and I'm using it for my primary phone.

Try out some good roms
Also have some hands on some apps which requires root access here
First install CWM and then find some awesome ROMs and install them!
Install a custom kernel (Battery Extender i think is the best available for stock rom) and a cpu controll app. Than mod the build.prop file in system to get better overall performance. Also you can install Adrenaline Engine or other script to improve performance.

If you want to stay on your stock rom for a bit longer:
-> getting rid of all the Samsung bloatware and all the unnecessary apps that are clogging up the phone.
You might even notice a boost in responsiveness by doing that, at least it seemed that way to me back in the day.
Use Titanium Backup to do so and look up what apps are save to delete before (!!).
From memory some safe-to-delete apps are: all of samsung apps, gallery (replace it first), radio, sms app (if you replace it first), browser (replace it first)
Partition your sd card if you have one and use that partition to increase your internal memory.
