[Q] Galaxy s wont boot after factory reset - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELP HELP HELP Please, I have had my galaxy s for 9 months, rooted for 8 also with lag fix one touch, and it has been working fantastically fast. However I have just got the galaxy s 2 and was getting this galaxy s 1 ready for sale on ebay so i restored factory settings, but it went through its stuff but does not boot up, it gets to where the big S is on screen then just goes blank and has only the 2 lower buttons lit up, and every 40 seconds or so it vibrates and thats all it will do. Have tried removing battery for 15 mins but its still the same. Also Wont boot in to recovery mode by pressing volume down + power + home button, its one of the models that does not have that function. What can i do please? Thanks Meurig

Did you disable lagfix before flashing ?

Download mode doesn't work either?

Download mode, im not sure what that is, and im a stupid bugger as I left it rooted and had the lag fix still on when i hit the restore button, Is there anything I can do? have i lost it? make my Sunday a good Sunday please gents? Thanks

Turn of phone, press volume down/power/home simultaneouslly and hold, if u get yellow download screen then all can be saved
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod

No my friend as i described in my origional post, the 3 button re boot does not work on this model, Samsung made a batch in the middle of production without this mode, so i cant boot that way, is there any other way?

Reboot and d/l mode are diffrent, give it a try, if not there is a fix out there, do a search for it
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod

then u'll need the 301k usb jig to get into the download mode.

Sorry for being a pain but im not that clued up cos to root it 8 months ago i watched a viseo on youtube thats how i managed to do it, but what do you mean when you say d/l mode? what is it and how do i do it? Thanks

D/l =download, try what I explained, if it doesnt work I will tey and find fix link for you
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod

Sorry again, what is 301k usb jig? Thanks

Its a micro usb plug wirh a resistor soldered across 2 terminals that force phone to d/l mode
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod

Hi, thanks for helping, i tried again but did not get the yellow download screen, the 3 button thing does not and never did work on mine. Thanks

Just seen 1 on ebay for £5 ebay number 130475430235
Samung I9000 Download/Recovery Mode USB Jig is that what i need?
Do I just plug it in and switch on when i get it? Or is there something I can do now without having to wait 3 days?

There is a fix somewhere in dev forum, trying to find it for you, the jig should have instructions with it, bear with me, sons over for lunch and I have cancer, so bit slow at the moment!

My Galaxy S 19000 is stuck on the at&t boot screen.. the at&t logo just keeps flashing...

PC is not recognising phone via Kies, odin or anything else...
Something tells me I have made a huge mistake somewhere along the line.. any fix???
Thank you
If no recovery/download mode working...

Thank you for your help...
Quite expensive options aren't these, GOOD THING I HAVE INSURANCE!!!
There must be a software way around this thou...
HELP!!!!
If your phone can't get into download mode due to it being disabled it looks like your pretty much screwed. You could phone samsung and see if they'd fix it.

If you can get to the AT&T logo part, I'm assuming you should still be able to get to download mode. Did your phone have dl mode before?
Thread moved to Q&A section
Yes my phone could get into dl mode b4 but now it doesn't work any more, phone just keeps on showing at&t logo and rebooting.
When I put the USB lead in the phone does not switch on at all..
thanks 2 all for assistance in this horrible mess negligence has left me in.
the USA models goes into download mode by using the volume up + volume down + power
see if that works
Thanks for your reply...
no joy... any other viable button combinations I could try? I've already tried many to no avail...
I'm no expert on the matter but don't you think that since you flashed a Captivate ROM on an I9000 that the home button wouldn't work since the Captivate doesn't share the same home button? Logically I would try looking for what the combo is for the Captivate to get into download or recovery mode. Now, I may be wrong and it may not work if the captivate uses its home button to enter the home button but it's worth a shot.
Edit: I just checked here and it says you hold both the volume up and volume down button while you press the power button. Try that.
With the device off, try holding both vol + & - then plugging in usb cable. Thats how a captivate enters download mode. If flashing the i9000 on captivate changes the button sequence it could not hurt to try.

@ Bell & foom....
I understand both your thought pattern and YES this was mine also...
However thus far no combinations have worked, still continually looping the at&t logo.
If I plug in the charger or USB whilst its doing this it kills the device, it wont switch on...
Knowing the different CAPTIVATE button comb. to recovery or download mode would be a big help right now.. also how the buttons would be mapped... i.e Captivate rom. on GALAXY S device?
How would one fix a captivate that was continually re-booting at operator logo start-up? Might be another way to angle this?
Thanks....
Think u are better off paying the guys at samsung or phone repair store to load the right firmware back in if u dont have the 3 btn combo...

try downloading that one click unroot program, plug the sgs into the computer and then force unroot, although the unroot won't work it should then allow the sgs to enter recovery mode.
Unfortunately my PC is not recognising the phone...
Plugging the USB in while the phone is switched OFF does nothing....
lugging the USB in while the phone is switched ON.. Turns it off...
Same things happen when the Charger is plugged in.. Althou the phone seems to still charge!!!
Arghhh..
Thanks for your suggestion thou.. Any more help/ ideas are welcomed...
Last resort maybe try heating up the phone like the others did to force download mode?

so any news on this? i too have successfully flashed the captivate rom on my unbranded i9000 the official repair shop i first took it to (mttc <Lithuania>) told me that it needs a new motherboard, and it would cost me 700LTL(270 $us)... kinda sounded like bull****, so a week ago i took it to a private repair shop, they said they had jtag, so i should be hearing from them this week, if not, i'll buy the stupid riff box myself and repair it..
no button combination worked for me, and the symptoms were exactly the same, flashing att, usb kills it etc. etc.
well, my advice would be to keep contacting different local repair shops, and asking do they have a jtag that supports the samsung galaxy s, if they do, the repair shouldn't cost more than 25$, at least thats what I've been told. good luck, and stay in touch, update on your process, cause the number of people flashing the wrong rom on the i9000 is horrifying.
it kinda sux that its so easy to brick the sgs... and its wrong for people to state that "if you have 3button combo enabled, you are safe", well thats just bull****.
No GOOD news as of yet, but I am in the process of to admitting my SGS to a official samsung service centre.. I was also thinking of sending it directly to them for repair...
???
Still been trying some other things to try and jump-start this blasted thing in the meantime but NOTHING IS WORKING!!!!
I to am thinking about purchasing this riff box or JTAG but it would be for a ONE TIME USE only... Seems like a waste of money when I can just claim a new SGS through insurance only thing is playing the WAITING GAME!!!
I Shall definitely update this thread with any progress made in the coming days...
Here I was thinking I was a lone soldier with this dilemma...
Also I agree... SGS = Too easily bricked.. and no solution?? Other than splashing out 100+ £/$... in your words truly SUXXXXXXX!!!!

Sorry, but ANY phone (or even any electronic component for that matter) is easily bricked if you flash firmware from a completely different device onto it.

well, afaik, its very hard to fully brick a new htc device.
anyway, i suggest you try finding a jtag repair shop first, as samsung will take a lot of time to "repair" it, or even tell you that it needs a new motherboard..

[Q] Installed Vibrant rom onto i9000M

Okay I did something I should've known not to do but I was very tired. I accidentally in haste installed a Vibrant rom onto my i9000m. The reason I did this was because my internal SD looked like it was dieing again and was desperate to not have to wait another month and a half for Bell to fix it. Anyways I had download mode still working, so I used odin and flashed a rom I thought would be compatible enough, and it wasn't. Not only did it not fix the problem (and flip my volume up and down buttons) but now I can't get into download mode either. Also whenever I plug in a USB cable the phone shuts off.
Any ideas? I need to get it back to JH2 atleast before I can send it in.. Or atleast break it more so the startup screen doesn't even turn on anymore...
Ouch.. have you tried the various download mode tricks, like the usb jig and hairdryer thing?
Or maybe check in the vibrant forums if they have a different button combination for download mode? If your volume buttons got remapped, might have something else changed too
Haven't tried the jig yet. Was going to look into that. What's the hairdryer trick?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Hair dryer method is used to heat the back of phone up for it to go into download or recovery mode

I also accidentally flashed a Vibrant ROM onto my i9000m. I can't enter recovery or download modes and the phone shuts off when I plug in a USB cable. Does anyone know if the USB jig will work in this case? Any other suggestions?
Damn!
I did exactly the same...
is any solution proposed work... I plan to try the JIG solution tomorrow, but if someone had try, please give us some news.
EDIT: it seems to work : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9120502&postcount=4

[Q] is this a real brick

hi this happened to me the other day try taking your battery out for a few mins then 3 button combo whilst putting battery back in worked for me but took a couple of goes
Why do you say the jig can't help you? Have you tried one?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
yes i've tried a jig and nothing happened !
I saw in one of the xda threads that i need a jtag to revive my phone because the sbl is just dead and i think it's my case !
i will try the jtag trick then i will make you know if it worked or not ;-)
Can I just ask how the phone managed to turn off in what seems to be the ten second flashing window of the 3br fix?
i know not really
after crashing my pc while flashing a new rom via odin, my phone seems really dead as yours.
the jig-method worked well for me. but i had to wait a few seconds with jig before the downloadmode appear.
if its no hardwarefault it should work fine if you wait a few seconds (it tooks 3 attempts to figure out that it takes between 5 and 10 seconds for me to work.)
if this wont help the jtag is possibly your last choice.
beware your warranty if you do that.

[Q] In a LOT of trouble!

So a few days back i flashed the serendipity VII rom on to my previouly 2.2 Cappy, and it worked like a charm... a day later i was experimenting with a few ROMS all 2.3, and they worked, and to my luck I flashed a 2.2 ROM (Cognition 4) (by mistake i might add) and there it was a complete black screen brick!
since then Iv tried various methods to bring it back to life, the 3button thing, the taking the battery out holding down the 3 buttons connecting the usb and putting the battery back in, then releasing power only... Iv tried to even get it JTAGed, which was a disaster since the JTAG guy tried and cudnt get the thing to show connectivity... ANY HELP??
I fail to accept that this is the end... Please HELPP!!!!!
just keep trying to get into dl mode by using other usb ports, a jig, holding buttons while battery removed and install battery then plug in phone, happened to me plenty of times but was persistant that it finally got into dl mode.
Try making a jig and putting phone in download mode then flash stock through odin -- do a search for jig in the captivate forums. It saved me many times. You can even make one for about $1.
If you had gingerbread then you may need to use the i9000 version of entering download mode. The key combination is different. Search around on the forum as plenty have already mentioned what it is. I just don't remember off the top of my head.
if it will not power on at all....it doesnt look good.
try holding volume down and power...see if that brings up download mode. a jig is only $8 shipped to your home and will work.
i had a similar scenario and a jig brought my cappy back to life!! ive had the same phone since september, the jig has saved me from at least 8 new phones
I have seen a black screen for download mode. The only way I knew I was in download was when I saw the yellow band appear in Odin. Open Odin, and try different button combinations that will get you into download mode until you see Odin recognize your phone.
I'm sure you've tried, but these are 2 other key combos. I've had that happen to me in the past and it can be frustrating.
1. volume up + volume down
2. volume down + power
3. volume down + home (softkey) then power (this is the one that worked for me)
4. volume down + menu (softkey) then power
Hope everything works out for you. If all else fails, I'm sure a jig will work.
I learned this in the days of old, when we were flashing the baked Froyo's. Don't know if it applies or if you've tried it already, but what used to work for me was:
Open Odin
Pull the battery out, put it back in...don't turn it on.
Hold the volume down button
Plug in the usb
At no point in the process should you ever touch the power button. For your Odin version, I'd recommend using the Stock Odin, get factory and then try flashing your custom Rom again.
(Edit: I say volume down because that's the current button to enter download mode with Gingerbread. It used to be Volume Up and Down at the same time.)
ok first this does not belong in the dev section! belongs in Q&A so thing will get closed pretty soon. also other than a correct jtag u cant recover with jig, button combo or voodoo magic. u just mixed a i9000 GB bootloader along with a captivate froyo secondary boot which the Cog4 ROM has. use search and i think you can find someone who offers a jtag service
Well, I've seen a few mention it, but I think your going to need to make or puchase a jig. Hit radioshack and get 3 100kohm resistors, about $1. The directions are all over the forums here. I'd be willing to bet that will fix you up.
Also, once in a while it may still be alive even though the screen is black. Like someone else said, go ahead and start Odin, then plug your phone into USB. See if there is any response from Odin. It's worth a shot.
Either way, it's good to have a Jig handy.
claim warranty.

you need dl mode to do that, he's not even getting power up. go to att store and say it wont turn on today gimme replacement.
How did someone with just 2 posts make a thread in here? I thought you had to have 10+ posts just to post in a thread.
just contact samsung the captivate should be in warraty untill oct2011.. i also bricked my phone while on serendipity VII see Q&A Soft brick or hard Brick.i had my phone stuck on the battery charge screen. was not able to get to download mode or recovery and my battery wouldnt charge . so i called samsung just gave them my imei number and they said it was under warranty until oct 2011. i did not tell them i bricked it while flashing roms. i just told them my phone wont charge or turn on. i sent my phone to the samsung repair center in dallas tx. my phone was fix at no charge even though i had it rooted and running a custom rom. samsung just fixed my looping battery screen and put there stock froyo erasing all my apps and data.it took about 2 weeks to get all this done. got my phone back this monday and everything is working great....
so just contact samsung and say the phone wont turn on dont say you rooted it or flashed a room. samsung wont check to see if its rooted all they care about is that you didnt drop the phone or something like that.

Same exact thing happened to me on my last phone. Your phone is dead, dead, dead. Hard bricked. Nothing will bring it back. Take it to an AT&T store and tell them you were upgrading to 2.2 and the screen went black and now it wont come back on.
There is no jig or JTAG that will fix it, trust me, I tried

at&t might help, but you have to hassle alot.Just contact samsung they will help for sure.i just sent them my bricked phone and they fixed it in two weeks at no charge. samsung will do it for free, im living prof.
I dont really buy into the fact that its dead, no way... its just that the revisions on the boot.bin and sbl.bin are different... shouldn't JTAG work? and cant claim warranty cuz im not in the US!!! there must be a way people.... im faar too poor to just give up without a fight!!!

I9000 won't power on..

Hey guys..
A friend has given me his Galaxy S I9000 to try to fix.
The back story is that he had flashed CM7 onto it, worked ok for a bit then the phone turned off and won't turn back on.
Tried a new battery and charger, no dice.
I've done a little bit of reading about the web and it seems like a hard brick? Will a USB jig help to fix this and get it to power back on and into download/recovery?
Thanks guys
If you can't access download mode normally, try a JIG.
Sent from my Gameboy Color
Made up a jig, tested it on my SGS3 worked fine on that phone, tried it on the i9000 and no deal..
No way of repair if the jig won't bring it back to life??
Cheers!
No other suggestions lads before I return the phone to my friend?
Do you really think its bricked? Because as you said, it worked and then it shut down suddenly, and since then you cannot restart? Not in cwm and not in downloadmode?
Its strange because a brick usually happens when you flash a wrong rom or during the installation the power went off. But its really rar that our S1 is completly bricked.
Did you also tried a different battery and a different charger?
