Hello, I have the SGT and I see that I can connect through b/g/n/. My issue is that I do not see my 5ghz N frequency SSID on the tablets wireless networks setting.
Is there anything special I need to do to utilize my N frequency on my home network?
Thanks in advance!
Router D-Link DIR-825
Your router have settings for for mixed (b/g/n) n only and sometimes (b/g) so any settings u have it on the tab should connect to it. Now if you have mix settings (b/g/n) the tab will connect at whatever optimal setting the wireless modem is written to connect at. I would guess N but again its a guess. But if you set your your network to N only, the tab can only connect at that frequency. Likewise if you have a wireless modem running g it will see the SSID but would have problems connecting to it. I havent been able to tell my tab which type of network to connect to, unless I'm missing something.
Almost 90% android devices doesn't support N standart, if it's supported, so only N on 2.4ghz frequency, not 5Ghz.
You have to manually select the channel. And use lower numbers.

Your right, I tried the mixed settings and was able to connect. Just not to N only settings.

Hi
I just finished setting up Wifi and it works perfect. Is there any way i can make the Diamond use the Wifi connection for programs if such connection exist? Currently it alwasy open a 3G connection even if Wifi is enabled, which kinda sucks, since 3G traffic dont come cheap
So what i want is, if Wifi connection exist use that, else open a 3G connection.
Best regards
Mads
Yes, there is a way. Just go to settings-->connectins tab-->connections-->advanced tab-->select networks and select the one you want to use.
In WIFI settings you have to select the same connection at the "connect to" option!
regards
Hi demacus
Thanks for the reply, but I have some trouble following you guide. First in my Select networks I have to networks, “3” and “Arbejde”. 3 is the name of my ISP and the one that’s currently selected to be used by programs needing access to the internet. In my Wifi “Connect To” option I can’t select the “3” I can only select between “Arbejde” and “Internet” which is just to default networks.
So my question is still the same, how do I make the diamond use a wifi connection if one is present else enable a 3G connection and use that.
Best regards
Mads
Err... in my case, the way it works is.. if I connect to the Wifi, then 3g gets disabled for as long as I am connected to a Wifi network..
If Wifi is available and you ARE CONNECTED (just available isn't good enough, you have to be connected), my Touch Diamond doesn't use the 3G.

Select Connect to The Internet
Hey L o r d R a j
The Internet option i am talking about have a description saying that its for use when connection to a VPN connection. My Wifi is active and if i change the setting in the Connection tab to use "Mit Arbejdsnetværk" the wifi works perfect for the browser etc.
Not sure what I or the danish rom i have is doing wrong. But i cant get it to use the wifi if its there, if not use the 3G.
If anyone have any ideas please let me know, thanks
Best regards
Mads
I am trying to troubleshoot my router, it does b/g/n
I have it set to g/n
I want to know if there is a way to tell whether the cappy is using the G or the N radio
I cant disable G, I need both on but I would like to see that the phone is using N if it can
quite simply, if the router you have isn't dual-band and is just using the 2.4GHz range and NOT the 5GHz range, then yes, your phone is connected at wireless n. but just because you have a theoretical max of 133 Mbps (or 300 Mbps if you bought the router within the past 6 months) doesn't mean that's the thoroughput you're going to get.
likely, depending on where you live, your internet connection tops at about 10 Mbps (that's megabits, not megabytes)... some places (especially if you have fiber) around 50 Mbps...
so realistically your phone is likely maxing out any downloads at about 2 megabytes a second... 10 if you have a really fast connection.
I am not asking due to speed
I am asking
Is there a way to tell what type of network your wifi is connected to, b/g/or n?
not just to my router, but anytime I am on wifi
on the phone?
on a XP?
on Mac?
PS
DD-WRT shows channels higher than 11 so those must be the 5Ghz channels
it is a WRT300N btw
the cappy doesnt have a 'n radio' and a 'g radio'
the cappy has an 'n radio' and 'n radios' are backwards-compatible to pickup older signals
you set your router to output g/n signals, your recieving device will pick up on the fastest signal
to test it, look at your data speed,
in windows click your wifi in the corner > status > SPEED
on your phone... Menu > Settings > Wifi > click your network > Link Speed
mac... i dont care.

Think that router didn't allow for auto switching between 2.4 and 5Ghz channels. You have to select it, so the one you select is the one you are using.I font think Lynksys starts auto switching until the 400N. On other networks,.use speedtest. Anything over 5.6mb (i think) is n speed.

Hi friend can i switch wifi band from 2.4 ghz to 5ghz in my xperia z (i have lollipop stock rom android 5.1.1 and i have a locked bootloader allowed no) any solution to do that like a MOD .i dont worry if its neccesery to root my device tnx all
If your Router is sending 5Ghz phone should connect to it, its I remember similar topic in Sony forum, and new software(4.4+) is working with it without changing any setting on phone.
Try setting your router with new AP with only 5GHz, then reset your wifi settings in phone and connect again. Restart both devices and check again.
Or if you have possibility assign new SSID with 5Ghz and remove 2.4Ghz. Some routers(like my Huawei) can send both simultaneously, and I just set secondary SSID for that.
2.4 is crowded like hell almost everywhere but to be honest switching to 5ghz is not big difference for me.
Actually 5GHz have bad signal strength and its have problem with sending it to longer distance. Also if you want use only 5, you should remove every 2.4 AP from your phone, because phone ALWAYS choose stronger signal(and 2.4 is always send stronger signal than 5)

Hi Guys,
I have the following problem and tried to solve it for the past few days, but I cant do it, so I hope that you can help me with it.
I have two WiFis with the same name, one on 2,4GHz and one on 5GHz.
It seems that Netflix cant see my chromecast ( 1. Gen - so only 2,4 GHz wifi) if I am connected to the 5GHz.
Now my question is can I use tasker to connect to the 2,4GHz if I launch Netflix?
I think the best way is to connect to a specific Mac address, but I cant figure out how...
Thanks for your help
Instal "SSID Selector z WiFi Widget" or "WiFi Connect for tasker"

These apps dont work for me :/
Both just allow me connect to a specific SSID but I want to switch between two networks with the same SSID.
But thanks for trying to help me
Most routers have options to assign different SSIDs to different bands, you can assign them separately and then use "WiFi Connect for Tasker". So far to my knowledge there is no way of changing Wifi Channel automatically in Tasker .
I think you need to check your router settings. I can see my Chromecast 1 perfectly on a 2.4GHz while all other devices are connected to 5GHz
Under Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi frequency band, I have "2.4 GHz only" selected.
However, on my home network (which broadcasts the same SSID on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz), it still frequently connects at 5GHz.
Has anybody else seen this, and is there any solution?
Also: is there any way (e.g. third party app) to set the phone to "Automatic" except when it's connected to my home wi-fi, when I only want it to connect at 2.4GHz?
(Why do I want to do this? I'm running AirDroid in local mode on my PC, which only connects at 2.4GHz. If my N6 connects at 5GHz, then AirDroid doesn't work as it regards the PC and phone as being on 2 different networks.)
I have wifi extender with 2.5ghz and 5ghz bands. They have slightly different names (ssid's)
When I set to 2.5 only, the name of the 5ghz network disappears from the list of available networks. Does yours do this?
Do you have unique SSID's for the two networks? (I'm not sure if it's required, but that's the way mine is set up)
Do you have a Custom kernel or rom?
I'm using the same SSID for both networks (2.4GHz and 5GHz) - this is convenient for all our other devices, as they can seamlessly connect to either frequency. It just appears as a single name in the list of networks.
I'm running Cataclysm.

The known ssid's with passwords are stored somewhere. Changing the settings to 2.4 GHz doesn't clear this
First choose 'forget' and connect again.
I've the same with Chromecast. Changing the name of the 5 GHz ssid can make 'connect life' easier.

Many thanks.
So that sounds as if I:
1) Set phone to "2.4GHz only"
2) "Forget" my home network
3) Reconnect my home network (at 2.4GHz)
4) Set phone back to "Automatic"
then my home network will always connect at 2.4GHz, but other networks that I encounter will connect at either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
Is this correct?

Yes (on my N6)
But setting 'automatic' includes 5Ghz.
Think about changing ssid.
Wifi devices will choose by signal strength.
