modify streak 7 battery - Dell Streak 7

anyway to modify streak 7 internal battery, forget waranty things.,,i think it must be possible to change it.,i dont have any streak7 yet,can somebody open back cover of it and share photos from it

You have to remove 6 er 7 screws and open it up then carefully unhook the 3 ribbon cables for lcd, touch screen, and capacitive buttons.......then remove the speakers,cameras,modem....pull the mother board and then the battery is one of those soft batterys so you have to be carefull in un-tapeing it from the back shell and then you will need to fine a comperable battery .......and it voids your waranty just by opening it up but hey if you decide to do it and something goes wrong id be interested in the mother board to replace my other streak
But on the positive side I can field stip a streak 7 in under 5 min.......just cant figure out how to format the nand

Amazing. Ive got one with a broken charge port. Dell replaced it but they still havent sent me a shipping label to send back the old one. I waited a week for an email with the label to send it to mexico, so after 10 calls they just sent out a new one. Employees just arent so bright. Id love to fix the old one.

so amazing, difficult to modify, dont think about that...

PDMI
There is PDMI port on side of Dell Streak 7 that can be used as add-ons. If you are lucky to find a 7inch thin battery, you could hide it in a leather case and plug your streak with it. Also you could make your own conventional USB and HDMI port on leather case.

Yea, any chance you can expand on it?

where to find such battery?.,was googling little didnt find any one

.....PDMI
You just need to know which of the 30pins on the PDMI (Click-WiKi) is +pos and which is -neg, then get a rechargeable cell/s (of correct Voltage and approx 2A delivery) and wire into a PDMI male adapter plug accordingly.
BTW I have a feeling this could be a workaround for the "Sleep Of Death" on HD7 as I have found that I can let the device sleep while connected to my USB port on the Laptop and it always wakes up, weird as I know it doesn't charge, but it must send enough power to stop it falling into a coma (I'm on Wifi only model so may differ).........As for powering the Streak up from a backup pack I think it would need to deliver at least 2amps as the Streak doesn't seem to want to charge from much less, unless you fancy learning the Schematics of the DS7's Mobo to look for a workaround!

Did anyone find a battery that fits and has worked for a least a couple of months and has greater battery life?

[Q] Battery pin-out?

I have just bought a cheap mains charger for the Streak from eBay (item 320593137758).
To use this charger, you need to slide 2 moveable pins to line up with the appropriate contacts on the battery. The problem is that there are no markings on either the battery or the charger, so I don't know which pin needs to connect to which contact.
I don't want to try trial-and-error for fear of damaging the battery.
Does anybody have any information which might help?
I made my own charger pin outs go like this:
from the middle of the battery where the dented part is that would be negative so it'll be like this ( - d d + ) 2 in the middle are for data don't need those
so you are looking at the far pins,
remember middle of the battery is NEGATIVE outer side is POSITIVE
Also make sure the charger is for LI-ION/POLY battery so it stops charging the battery.
I have a similar charger from ebay and it will light up the star or led when connected right.
I have us

Guide: Slacker G2 dock modified for audio output.

I have been tinkering with the Slacker G2 dock and have modified it to output audio through one of the ports. This involves soldering on very small traces and is not something that is easy to do.
Just as a general warning, I am not responsible for any damage that could result from this guide.
On the bottom of the circuit board solder a jumper wire between the +5v pin on the USB connector and the point shown in my picture.
On the top remove the components from the board, i removed them all, this is to keep the new audio connection from feeding back into the dock port on the streak.
On the top run a jumper from pin 10 to any Ground point on the board, i picked one a that was easy to get to.
Then run a jumper from pin 8 to the now empty solder point next to the connector marked C4
Then run a jumper from the solder point just under the R1 label to the point next to the connector marked C5
Congratulations your G2 Dock now has audio out, and as an added bonus it will charge your Streak twice as fast. Also make sure that your power source is able to supply a minimum of 1A or 1000mA of power.
I think this mod needed it's own thread, well done m8.
Question, is the 5v jumper cable underneath all you need to fit to increase charging capacity? I'm not too bothered about audio.
/edit my spelling...

Did the +5v pin on the USB connector to get dock mode but now no audio from phone even if I disable speaker out in dock settings. Alarm is useless now, is that expected?
Choose the option to enable speaker output, because its the phone speaker not the dock speaker.

Thanks for the hint. I enabled speaker output and it works but I had to undock and redock for the new setting to kick-in.
I got two of these docks as they are the only thing I could find (because dell don't want to sell accessories in Australia) so I'll give your mod a go to get the audio working.
Thanks heaps

Try here - I have bought from this seller and would recommend her.
Agreed, I bought 2 (in case I messed one up) and it works great.
Further modification
After applying the 5v USB modification my Streak charges at twice the speed. The only problem was that it would not switch to dock mode without pressing down firmly.
Corrected the issue by removing more plastic around the PDMI connector and re-adjusted the angle so more is exposed. Now the Dell Streak docks without much effort.
Hey guys is it possible to dock the dell streak when its in a TPU style case? If not, does it look easy to mod to accept a dell streak + case? Also, does the audio out provide stereo sound? Thanks

The G2 dock can be modified by removing the plastic arround the port to accept most cases, in order to get any audio out of the dock you must do the mod to the pinouts to get stereo out.

I'm confused. The add for the dock claims its got audio-out and it comes with 2 different audio cables. Why does it need a modification for audio out?

The G2 uses different pins to control this output than the standard. This modification bypasses all that and makes it correct for the streak.
HDMI
Hey guys does this Slacker Dock also give us the ability to use HDMI from the Streak to say a Plasma TV...
I can see on the pick that it has an output but there is no mention of it by any if you in thread.

Case with built-in OTG

Do these exist for any device?
I don't know why you couldn't have a case that allows for the installation of an SD card while allowing you to physically mount your device within it..so everything looks flush, even if it makes your device an extra 1/2" long or w/e.
I'd never thought of that before. That's a rather clever idea; a case that is also a dock, perhaps. I suppose the various iphone battery cases are similar in execution, but since it is usb OTG, the opportunities are a lot more interesting with Android.
I think it would be awesome IF OTG didn't require root & stickmount. I doubt most accessory makers are going to go through the trouble of serving such a small market. Yes, most people at XDA will root, but we are probably less than 1% of the market.
I was thinking this too but have little hope we will see something come to market. I'm gonna order a few thick cases and see if I have room to cut out a spot for a lil built in microusb reader and think otg cable.
It would be nice if some manufacturer made a USB otg case with a battery built in also. Make it the ultimate media device, but able to shed the extra bulk whenever by simply removing the case.

You have to consider that using USB host uses some extra battery, so even if you aren't using any USB ports but have the case on it might decrease battery life.

Apple owns the patent on the rectangle & the touch screen. And they're all lawyered up........be afraid.
I think what I'll end up doing is trying my hand at tearing apart an OTG cable and connecting with one of these:
http://www.usbfirewire.com/usb_cables_a_to_micro-b_up_angled_a_to_up_angled_micro_b_64.html
http://www.usbfirewire.com/usb_cables_a_to_micro-b_down_angled_a_to_down_angled_micro_b_66.html
http://www.theandroidsmartphone.com...-i9100-galaxy-s-ii-2-gt-n7000-galaxy-note.htm
Still not as low profile as I'd like, but if I can get a hard case with a little thickness, I might be able to make it look like 1 piece. It's not perfect, but it might be the best we've got (unless somebody already makes an OTG cable with an elbow). Be nice if I can peal back the rubber and expose just the plug and then set it up with a flat ribbon cable or something straight to an SD card.
It's amazing we can fit a bluetooth radio into the USB port and hardly add anything size wize, but looking for a microusb cable that's very low profile turns up nothing fruitful. . . Anybody know where to find bare microusb connectors?

Nexus 7 Wireless Charging adapter case?

I haven't been able to find any info about a possible wireless charging adapter case or hack for nexus 7, but thought itd be cool if there is one. I found cases for iPhone 4/4s but none for Andy
Anyone know of a company selling wireless charge adapters?
I would like this too...
I'd say just go over to the galaxy nexus forum and find the thread about what they are doing to get wireless charging done on there, and just apply it to the nexus 7. It should be just as simple to do.
Ok

Ill have a look, but just sayin that hardware wise the Nexus 7 and GNexus are not that similar, its more the software.
ill look anywayz tho :silly:
When i say it'll be simple to do, i mean it. It should be exactly like what you would do for a gnexus, literally. You would do pretty much exactly the same thing, just subbing the nexus 7 for the gnexus, a different case for the case they say to use in the thread, and it should work. As for charging though i've read though is that it wont' charge via the pogo pins when the screen is on. That's the only issue i would see with wireless charging.

Here we go. Get case for tablet, get suitable wires, get pogo pins to install into case. Get charging dock and back plate (that you'll use for parts), modify case to put in parts of back plate that are used for wireless charging. Put popo pins into case in appropriate spot. Hook up wireless charging part with wires to the pogo pins that will touch the appropriate pins on nexus 7. Set tablet down on charging base. Profit.

If i use the Pogo pin's internal connections to hook up the adapters, it won't work. They currently only charge when the device is in bootloader (powered off or fastboot. Not sure about recovery)
I have opened it up. There are some wires connecting to the battery. Do you think its a bad idea to remove the insulation temporarily, add my own connections, the n cover it again?
I don't want to do anything that is too risky though lol.
I'm not currently looking into adding this to my tablet as an internal addition. I would recommend checking in with the threads of people who are looking to add this internally. As for a charging base though, you could use the palm pre one as that's pretty cheap to get, or maybe even modify the charging base and backplate that you can pick up from powermat. I personally have a charging base that i got to use with my HTC thunderbolt that is the same tech as the palm pre. That tech from what i understand is the standard while powermat does their own thing and isnt' as interchangeable as the standardized ones would/will be.
I don't want to f*** up my device
I don't want to fubar my device, but my friend has smashed his screen and can't get any good offers for it. I may buy it off him just to try adding wireless charging. If this went well, I could post instructions (and pics) of me redoing the mod on my (non smashed) device. SOunds like a plan to me What do you think?
That'd be awesome, I was searching on Google for a wireless case for my 7 and came across this post. I'll make sure I check back on this thread and hope you are able to get it to work.

Use Smart Dock with case/extended battery?

So basically I've got a 9300mAh ZeroLemon battery... is there any sort of cable or extension thing I could get so I could use it with the Note II dock from Samsung? I know it's not just a normal male MicroUSB connector but something with a few extra pins. In theory you could make a female connector with the extra pins and just have a small cable run from the dock to your phone... but I'm not good with DIY sort of stuff. Does anything exist that I could buy that would let me do this? thanks.

I'm sorry I don't think I know what you want to do, really.
Do you mean you want to use your ZeroLemon while using the Smart Dock?
I want this too. A cable as an extension of the actual docking male connection for phones with extended batteries or bigger phone cases.
The phone would not sit in the dock but would be connected to it and able to use all the dock functions. Something we cant do with the zero lemon battery.

Hi,
Why not just remove the TPU case?
I have the ZeroLemon and connected it to the Smart Dock no problem.
I didn't think it would fit...then I went on vacation and havent had a chance to play with it. Vacation ends tomorrow unfortunately.
I thought about taking the tpu off but didn't know if the battery would be secure enough without it.

I already tried it. I have both Smart Dock and Zero Lemon. Just hold the battery while inserting it on the Smart Dock.
I don't wanna have to take it off everytime...
What is needed is some smarty fella to make an extension dongle. 1/2 inch should do it. Would allow all case fits with goodies.
