Hello
I just recently bought a tab. I was under the impression i could use it to make calls. I have service with tmobile and have been trying to use modem switcher. If i use my sim that came with tab i get a msg saying i am unable to make calls from this number. If i take the sim out of my vibrant it seems to work. But my question is if it is possible to do it with my sim card that came with it and os 3g and voice possible.

I don't think [and I say think because i'm only 99% sure i'm correct] that you can use the data only sim to call. That service wasn't activated on the sim because they don't expect you to be using your tab to call people.
Short answer, no, you can't get 3g and voice with tmobile.
Long answer, you can get 2g and voice with a #censored for legal reasons# imei using a data plus voice sim.

I have unlocked my G1 to use with my AT&T SIM card, and sometimes, my friends text me saying that they called me a few times and I didn't answer, but my phone has not rung at all. So I was curious and called my phone with a few of my friends' phones, and it does not ring sometimes. Out of 13 different calls, only 3 of them rang on my phone. I think texting works perfectly fine though. Can someone please help? Thank you!
I can't help you right away but I can guide you to a thread where people are discussing similar problem and trying to find an answer.

if you are using a Tmo G1 on the ATT network, then I believe it will be EDGE only. I could be wrong, but I thought that EDGE didn't allow simultaneous voice and data. Maybe you've got something running in the background and it's blocking the voice calls. Try turning data off, just phone only and see if it works.

I don't think that it works like that. Voice calls should still come through, but data will be blocked when it does. This is because the network doesn't provide enough bandwidth to support both at the same time.
So I followed all the directions on making my tab a phone, seemed to work well. I unlocked it, backed it up first, etc.
It all seemed to work well, with some minor exceptions.
1. I can make phone calls... sometimes. Sometimes I can call and it works great, other times it says it is dialing but there is no dial sound and it never connects.
2. I can send SMS... sometimes. Sometimes it just sends and recieves, other times it times out.
3. My icon for data connectivity says it is Edge and never shows 3g.
When I pull down the status bar it says AT&T, this was a T-Mo Tab that I unlocked and am using my AT&T SIM from my iphone.
Do I need to re-flash the modem? or did I mess some other step?
Thats all ur going to get. You can use rotohammers switcher app in the dev section. It gives u 3G or 2G+voice.

I would be ok with 2G+Voice actually... If I am doing much data I am usually on wifi anyways so 2g would be just to get email notifications.
My question is can I get the voice and sms (data) to be reliable? I would like to make a call each time I want to make a call.
I will try the switcher and see if setting it manually to 2g and Voice will make it more reliable.
The switcher also flashes a more reliable 2g modem, I used it for a while, still do when I need to. Rotohammer rules.

It seems as though Ive found my twin on XDA lol......I just purchased an Unlocked Tmous tab froma friend and it's details are as follows:
Model: Gt-P1000
Baseband: t849uvjjb
Kernal: 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #190)
Build number: Overcome v1.6.3
I want to be able to have calling work as well, (exact same symtoms as OP..)calling starts then "Call Ended" and as of right now, my text messaging and internet (edge network for both of coarse) are working fine. Hell, I even my wireless hotspot, "Mobile AP" in Galaxy speak, works fine. I work for an At&t retailer, and Im rocking a TMO tab lol...wish I could have both 3g data and voice :/..... Where do I start?
Found this in general section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838250
Thanks !!! but i didn't resolve my issue.... any more inputs please i have overcome 2.01 rom as well on galaxy tab i can browse using at&t and make calls with t mobile but i am getting a login page once i try to browse with t mobile
Have you checked your Apn settings? I just got my calling to work on at&t finally, and my sms and data are working great..only on edge data though until I score an at&t tab someday. I merely needed modem file that I found here on xda...ill find the link. (and also thank the appropriate user)

At&t and t-mobile don't share the same hardware so they don't get 3g on the others network.
Okay, here goes! First post here, and hopefully a useful one for others.
The prerequisite info:
T-mobile Galaxy Tab flashed to GT-P1000
Firmware Version 2.2
Baseband version T959TLJL3_ROTO-2G / w/ switch: T849UVJJB_ROTO3G
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number FROYO.XXJME
I purchased this Gtab stock, and went through Rotohammers tutorial for using the tablet as a phone while still retaining 3g capabilities of a data plan. I think I got all of that working correctly but can't verify it as I don't have a T-mobile sim card with data. (verified voice calling does work on the Tab on T-mobile)
I have since then installed Sipdroid and Google Voice with a PBXes trunk so that I can make free wifi calls using Google Voice to/from anywhere with wifi, or on 3g. All that is working great. ....BUT....
I thought the Gtab was unlocked with Roto's firmware, but I found out it wasn't when I inserted my AT&T based sim card (Actually "Consumer Cellular") It was saying "enter network lock control key" on startup with that sim installed.
I found an unlocking app in the market called Galaxy_S Unlock and went through the steps to unlock the Gtab for my AT&T card and it will not make or receive calls. In the settings it shows my phone number for the sim card, and has the IMEI # and such, but no worky. I'm wondering if there is a conflict in the settings of the device with Google Voice and/or SipDroid? All of those use the dialer app that the Euro firmware has on it... I can make Wifi calls with the dialer, but when I disconnect the wifi it doesn't connect the call. It all closes down as if the call ended. Any help on this, or do I NEED to remove the Sipdroid app or could there be some APN issues? BTW data doesn't work either on the sim card in either 2g or 3g modems that I used from Roto. I know I will probably have to use a different AT&T modem for the 3g, but the 2g one should work, right?
Update: Okay, got 2g data to work after going in and changing the APN settings for Consumer Cellular (AT&T). It still closes the dialer app when I try to make a voice call with the wifi disconnected. On the 3g modem it only gets Edge network just like the 2G setting. I'm going to try uninstalling Google Voice and see what happens.
Hooray, problem fixed... at leat partially!
Okay, uninstalling Google Voice fixed the problem. Now I need to figure out how to keep my free Wifi calling capabilities while still having Google Voice installed. Any ideas?
Problem solved!
Okay, got EVERYTHING working now with the exception of the correct modem for 3g on AT&T. I went back through and re checked my data settings, reinstalled google voice and now everything works as it should. When wifi is available my calls use wifi and when there isn't wifi it uses my sim cards cellular service. I just need the 3g modem for AT&T and I'll be set. I had to set up Google Voice so that it would prompt me to either use or not use GV to make the call and now everything is perfect. Free wifi calls on my Gtab and now a back up phone if my current one craps out. Yay!
great to hear that.

But you have a T-Mobile tab there. Not sure if flashing AT&T modem works for it.
Let us know if you are successful.
You won't get 3g. If you use JK3 modem on t-mobile tab you will get good voice, EDGE data. You won't need the modem switch.
I *228 on my Nexus 6 on VZW...and now i have no data and voice capabilities....how do I fix it?
You don't *228 on LTE devices. It may have ruined your sim card.

I got a new Sim from Verizon and it still doesn't have voice or data....is there a setting I need to toggle? Settings for the radio? Do I need to activate the phone in the Verizon website?

Use a friend's phone, and call Verizon to activate your phone. They'll look up the IMEI, and other pertinent information, and you should be up and running in a matter of minutes.
But yeah, *228 has been a no-no for quite a while now. It could cook your SIM, and damage the internals. As a matter of interest, why did you go that route, instead of just calling VZW in the first place?
