Tethering - Samsung Tab 10.1 - PLEASE HELP !!! - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am totally new to this tablet. I was little surprised that i cannot tether my galaxy tab with my Nokia phone, but luckily i found this site. Can someone please answer the following questions..
i) Is there a step by step video or document to root samsung galaxy tab 10.1?
ii) Incase i want to go back to the previous state just like the way when i bought my tablet how do i do?
iii) Dont know if this matters or not but i will be tethering my tablet along with Nokia N 97 phone( this is fully unlocked, i am able to tether with my lpatop), are the steps to root same?
Please advice as this is very cricitical for me, if i am not able to root then i might have to just return the tablet. Thanks in advance

Not quite...
For best results, I would put this question up in the forum dedicated to the Tab 10.1, not this one which is about the 7" original variant.
Beyond that, rooting a 10.1 should be very similar to most other Honeycomb devices, so check around for any how-to's on that.
With regards to what you're tethering with, that will not affect how you root the system. Rooting a tablet is simply gaining access to parts of the device that weren't available before, just like jailbreaking an iPhone. You will then still need to set up tethering as a separate process (and remember, the Tab isn't a computer, so it won't necessarily as easy...)
To revert to the previous state, you can either take a backup using recovery before you start (possibly a little complex) or performing a factory reset will "un-root" the device.
Any more experienced devs can feel free to correct me...

Ok, you're in the wrong forum.
Having said that, you don't necessarily have to root if your Nokia phone has bluetooth and supports bluetooth tethering (most of them do). When i had my 10.1 Tab i had it tethered to my Windows Mobile phone easily without needing or having to root.
Also, if your Nokia has wifi and supports wifi tethering (either adhoc or infrastructure), then you're golden, no need to root.
I see you have an N97. Just pair both devices via bluetooth, tap on the N97 in bluetooth settings (on the Tab) and choose to use for internet access.

[Q] wireless or usb tethering for captivate

I need help setting up tethering. Which is best/easiest? Which will present least problems with my phone? I have already rooted my phone and am having some clitches(lagging, powering off, just seems weird) I am not very savy on technical operations and am very much in need of some very detailed step by step help and info. I am very inexperienced on anything as far as these types of things go and would really appreciate any help but would love to have anyone who would be willing to give some one on one help to a total newbie. Please anyone willing to bring an old man into the age of technology?
Search for pre8 in the captivate general section. Easiest way is to just install that.
Or turn on airplane mode, turn on wifi, connect to a network. Go to market, install wireless tether. That's pre9, it works too, but has some bugs.
From a phone
or better yet, flash one of the Froyo based ROMs in the development section that has the native wireless AP in it ...
You'll also get a lag fix with most of them, so better performance overall.
Just need to install ROM Manager from the market, and spend some time reading about Clockwork Recovery flashing. It's really pretty easy to do.

[Q] snap-on Verdict tether

Hello,
I'm an auto technician that has a Snap-on Verdict auto diagnostic tool, which is an XP pro based mobile console with wifi and Bluetooth capabilities. My goal is to link this unit to the internet throught my un-rooted captivate 2.1. I searched YouTube and found a link that walked through the steps (kinda, bad English) for first linking via Bluetooth, which I've done, then set the setttings for internet connection (for att connection, which I have) on the XP unit. As I mentioned I have paired the phone with the Verdict. The Verdict recognizes the phone (classified as a phone/modem) as SGH-i897 with passkey enabled. That's as far as I have been able to make it. The YouTube video, which i'll link, then start to leave my translation/technical capabilities. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm a pretty good mechanic and will gladly exchange assistance with any auto related concern you may have.

-thanks again
Looked up the specs on that thing, and it's also wifi capable....it might be easier for ya to root your phone, and install wifi tether. Then, your phone acts like a mobile hotspot. Connect your Verdict to the "network" created by your phone, then it will share the internet connection.
rooting is a quite simple process, and the tethering (I believe) is just an app you can download

Rooting is a simple process. But you aren't going to be able to tether a virgin(unrooted) Captivate wirelessly to anything. The tethering apps pyrplhaze spoke of require root access or a custom ROM because AT&T censors them from the market. You will either have to root, install a custom ROM, or install a tethering app from a third party source. Good luck!
thanks for the replies,
I've tried to root my captivate a couple of times but I've had better luck tuning Renault than succesfully rooting this phone. It seems like the rooting challenge is a fast moving target for me, I've tried following "outdated" threads and such but as of yet I haven't pulled it off (dummy). I realize my stupidity regarding these protocols should make me ineligible for rooting/tethering assistance but I'm motivated to have the ability to better diagnose vehicles while mobile.
I'll help ya out, step by step.
1. Download this, and extract it to your desktop.
2. Enable USB Debugging (MENU > SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > DEVELOPEMENT > USB DEBUGGING) and connect your phone to your PC via USB.
3. Open Galaxy_One-Click_Root.exe and click One-Click Root. Your phone will reboot into recovery mode.
4. Use VOLUME DOWN to select REINSTALL PACKAGES and press the POWER BUTTON to select it. Done, rooted!

As for installing a Custom ROM that includes Tethering (such as Perception, or Cognition), after you're rooted, download ROM Manager from the Market. Open it up, and Flash ClockworkMOD, first option! After that, place the rom.zip of your choice on your /sdcard/, open ROM Manager, click Reboot to Recovery. It'll reboot, after that, all you need to do is select Install rom from zip, then choose zip from sd card.
Make sure you have the one-click back to stock just incase things go wrong!
Beaming :]
I'm a super user!!
many thanks!
doin the tether'
lovin' it. mad mobile auto repairs
thanks, hope i can help you sometime

[Q] New MotoX just arrived - noob rooting question

Hello,
Thanks in advance - I have read all the relevant guides and resources (slap/rock/pwnmymoto). Just got a new MotoX in the mail, 4.4, it's great.
I have an unlimited data Verizon plan - bought the non-contract phone (non-Dev) to keep it. I use tethering on my current device (rooted galaxy nexus) like crazy. My biggest goal is to get tethering on the new phone, which I guess means it has to be rooted.
I've been generally comfortable rooting with my previous devices, never really had a problem - but was able to use dedicated apps from the community here to do it/undo it.
I'm really not comfortable with adb (any good threads explain where/how to get this? something to do with the SDK, right?) I also have a mac, making some of these programs hard to use.
I guess my question is this - is there a simple way to get tethering on my device without rooting it?
Side question - if I manage to figure out how to root the phone (which seems really out of my league), would I be stuck on the stock 4.4? It seems unlocking the bootloader is really difficult if not totally out of the question (without an unlock code from Motorola), meaning no custom roms. Rooted 4.4 would not accept OTA updates, right? So in 6 months if a new Android version comes out, I'd be stuck on 4.4, right?

If I root my sm-N900A, will I be able to Turn on Hotspot

I recently updated to unlimited data with ATT, and found out after I updated to the new plan that I no longer able to turn the Tethering ON, which I only use it sometimes for may son's Tablet, when we are in an area where we don't have wifi like in my car.
My question, if I root my device, will I be able to have that function back, or is there other option?
Before someone sees search the forum, which I did, there so much information, I dont know which is valid anymore, any advice or link is much appreciated.
my device is:
sm-N900A
Android version 5.0
Base Band version:N900AUCSE0C3
Thanks in advances
no luck

My understanding is the issue is 5.0. 4.0 & 4.2 seem to be possible right now.

Switching from iOS to S10 and Need Advice Regarding Custom Bootroms and Root

Hello everyone,
I have always been an iPhone user since the first iPhone was released back in 2007; however, I have decided I would like to switch to Android as jailbreaks become less frequent on iOS.
I want to get the Samsung S10 Plus Exynos but I had a couple of questions.
If I purchase this device, will by be able to have root access without an exploit needed?
From what I understand, enabling root will trip Knox. I also understand that certain apps made by Samsung won't work like Samsung Heath and Samsung pay. But will other apps work fine like Pokemon go or various banking apps?
Is there a better flagship phone with root that I might want to look into getting instead?
This is all very new to me as I have always been with iOS and I would truly appreciate any advice you all can give. I have been doing extraneous amounts of research, and I will continue to do so, but these are just a couple of questions that I havent been able to find an answer to as of yet.

1.No you wont use any exploit.
2.Yes samsung pay and samsung pass wont work.Pokemon and banking apps work as long as you dont heavily debloat.Samsung health and secure folder work.
3.No there isnt
First update phone to latest version (ASII) with odin.(Get the firmware via Frija and flash via odin).Install samsung drivers and extract what you downloaded from Frija
In odin there are 4 slots. In Ap put Ap file.Bl in Bl.CP in CP and Csc in Csc.(PUT CSC NOT HOME_CSC).then boot phone in download mode(turn it off and hold bixby and volume down then plug in the usb cable Connected To The PC).In odin click start and wait until it boots..Go to youtube and search for max lee how to root s10.Then go to Xda in S10e/S10/S10+/S10 5G cross development and install TWRP by Geiti94 with his instructions.(Optional but recommended) install any custom rom available (CarHDMod,BeyondROM,LineageOS,LightROM and HadesRom).I personally recommend you to install hades rom with corsicanu's instructions. Then you have a rooted and custom rommed phone!
