Here is the exact details on what happened in the order I remember them
1. Was using the latest Cognition Rom and decided to try something different
2. Used Odin to flash back to stock
3. Flash Axura CE Version 4
4. Decided I liked Cognition better (Not bashing Axura, great Rom but not for me)
5. Went to try Odin and USB connection was not recognized
6. Knew USB connection worked under Cognition so tried to use Clockwork to restore to it.
7. After restore I got numerous FC and shut down.
8. After shut down phone would not boot but stuck on the i9000 Axura loading screen.
9. Now the problem I have is that I can get to recovery mode with no problem but USB is not recognizing connection, tried to get CW to mount USB so I could put the zip version of stock ROM on it but it will not mount. Also tried uninstalling samsung drivers and reinstalling with no luck

Any Help greatly appreciated

Is download mode still available? If yes your not screwed but your drivers might be.
What steps do you use to get into download mode.... 3 buttons or usb/vol+- combo ?
Yes download mode is available. I used the holding the volume up and down and plugging in USB. It goes to download mode with no issues whatsoever.
Well then this is a non-issue issue... Possibly a bad flash... Go in download mode again and reflash.
Your a bit crying wolf with no reason here. As long as download mode works and Odin detects the phone you have no issue
Use the Odin-one click if you have to ...but really calling it a brick when you have download mode gee-wiz.
Thats the issue. It is not detecting in ODIN. If it was detected I would have reflashed with no problem. I get the message that the USB device has malfunctioned and is not recognized
Try re-downloading the USB drivers - use the ones found in my signature.
If you can get into recovery - you can then get back into CWM and attempt to re-flash again - but you'd still need to 1-click back to stock using ODIN.
Have you tried to plug the usb cable in the Mb directly or changing its port ?
I actually downloaded your drivers last night and installed them. Still not recognized. I can get to CWR and have the zip files for AXURA and Cognition on the SD card. Get errors on various lines when trying to install either. I have tried 3 different cables and 4 different computers with no luck on recognition
Well crap... I did have the USB issue on my work's XP Machine - but when I went home to my Windows 7 box - it ended up finding the phone fine and I was able to flash back to stock.
Any chance you can find a Windows 7 box?
Dont know anyone with one unfortunately. I need to install Win 7 through bootcamp on my mac. I tried to even get it to mount as storage through CWR on it with no success
Well.. I can say with 99% certainty you should be able to restore the phone.. also if you look at my sig - I just added a link to the OTA_JH7.zip that is CWM flashable if you could somehow get the zip onto your phone that is lol.
Hm.. and I dunno how the virtual box of Win7 will run - but it's worth a shot. Windows 7 seems to be superior when it comes to figuring out devices vs. XP. I was shocked when it found my then toasted phone (similar issue your currently experiencing).
Haha, I have your zip to as a matter of fact. I picked it up but I dont know how to get it put on the phone if it wont recognize usb. If CW usb mounting would have working I was gonna put it on the internal sd and let it flash it
and actually bootcamp isnt a virtual box. its a partition on your hd where you can install windows on a mac computer

Duh.. been awhile since I've used MAC - you are quite correct
ok, on the flashing back either rom I get a error on line 10 trying to reflash AXURA and a error on line 12 with Cognition
Hmm. have you tried to do the factory reset from within CWM? I mean at this point.. can't lose anything by trying it.
Yeah, just did the wipe/factory reset through CWR. Still sticking on the same screen
Try this.
-Unplug the phone
-Uninstall all the current Samsung drivers you have, reboot
-Install this one, reboot
-Put the phone in download mode
-Plug the phone
Does windows install the drivers? If not continu
-Open Windows Device Manager and do a plug&play search
-If you have a ? device select it
-Right click/Update Drivers
-Select automatic...... if windows finds nothing return and select Manual.
-Choose the "Samsung ADB composite device" driver and install
Is the install successful ?
-Now unplug the usb cable
-Open Odin
-Plug the usb cable
Does Odin now see the phone ?

Why would you brick a working phone based on a driver issue ?!
That's like blowing your car engine cause you can't communicate with onboard electronics........ unreal
Hi!
After searching the forums for a while I did not find a thread exactly matching my problem, so if I've overseen it, please just point me there.
To my problem:
I did a very stupid mistake, flashing a new custom ROM with a different kernel (as usual, cooked in Docs Kitchen) without converting back the lagfix. So I ended up with a non-booting phone - so far, so bad. Note to myself: Never flash a phone during the carnival weekend again.
So I booted into download mode and tried to recover it via Odin, but here I got my really bad surprise: USB device is not recognized, thus I Odin does not see the phone.
I tried 4 different PCs with Win7 or XP, a Linux desktop and a Macbook. I also tried 5 different USB cables (they all work with other smartphones like the Desire and the HD2). Wherever I stick the phone in, it is not recognized (code 10/code 43 in Win7). I used the stand-alone-drivers from the sticky forum thread here, and also most recent Kies versions, always the same: USB device not recognized.
Does anybody have an idea how to revive the USB connectivity? I'm almost at the point to send it in for repairs...
Or can someone elaborate how I could have killed USB with corrupting the ROM? I've to admit I do not really understand how these two are connected.

Hi Amokbunny
You get into download mode but the PC won't recognize the phone?
That's messy and I can think of nothing that could have done that. you did not change the bootloader did you (flashed a full samsung ROM containing a bootloader, for example VJ1)?
If not I guess it's a hardware issue.
formatted to ext4 without any backup
I did a very stupid mistake too. Got darky's rom 9.3., installed i, everything worked great(really awesome thing), then i wnt to recovry mode and entered tthe speedmod and it showed mr that my phone has rtf files system not EXT4 as it should be, thou i installed the speed mode. then i chose to repartition it to ext4 but i didn't choose the backup. Just clicked to format the sd. It did formatted to EXT4, rebooted, i saw the darky's rom logo and the the phone vibrated and the logog of the droid just flashed. I tried to enter recovery mode-didn't load. Started the download mode connexted to pc used ODIN 1.7 with PDA I9000XXJPY.tar, MODEM I9000XXJPY.tar, GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJPY-LITE.tar s1_odin_20100512.pit.
The phone has started, appeared teh stok galaxy s logo and it's just flashing. Help needed. Don,t know what to do know. I have galayx s i9000 european version.
somehow i've managed to install new firmare 2.2.1 /I9000XXJPY-baseband /2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1-kernel version, but z4root isn't working. When i start permanent root the programm ends on aquiring root shell, the debug mode is on
Got it all running, installed Darky's rom 9.3. Thanks anyway.

Yep, I can boot into download and recovery modes, but that's it.
The only apparent change in the new custom ROM was the kernel.
I also cannot really access my external SD card (it shows me some phantom files, but not the actual content of the SD), otherwise I'd try to recover it this way.
I agree with the hardware issue, if it wouldn't have coincided with the flash procedure...anyway, I think I'll send it in for repairs if I don't get it to run on this sunday.
I have the exact same problem, except that I can access my external SD. I got the problem after upgrading to Darkys Rom 9.3 the usual way, but switched from Speedmod to Voodoo. After that update, my USB didn't work anymore.
I can't get neither Xp or Win 7 to recognize my phone. USB device not recognized, and tried all the tricks. Reinstalling Kies and drivers, switching between the different modes (storage, kies media, ask, debug...) But still no USB connection.
I updated to darkys 9.5 (transferring the rom using bluetooth, and updating using CWM), but still it doesn't work.
Can get it into download mode, but still can't connect using USB and Odin.
HELP!
Did anybody ever find a solution for this?
European version of I9000, bought in Denmark. No Simlock
Same thing here after installing JV1 + Ultibread Rom 1.4... Still no solution
*shameless push*
Any solution here? I dont have that problem, but it sounds too scary to not have a working solution :S
Same prob here! Any news?
Any solution? I have the same problem.

But if you are in download mode on your fone you'd rather should have a look at your configuration on the computer. Because the fone still can be flashed if the symbol for download still appears.
- Kies is shut down while ODIN is active?
- latest Samsung USB driver installed?
- Odin started with Admin?
Btw. did you try to get into recovery mode? Maybe this also still is working as the partition is quite small and chance high that it was flashed w/o faults. So you may be able to flash a zipped ROM rather than a tarball for Odin.
USB Not working when Phone plugged in... try these..
Unplug Device from PC..
Windows go to Device Manager...
Scroll down to Universal serial bus Controllers
Start with the top one and work your way down ..uninstall them all..
When done reboot Computer and let it install them all.. then try again
2.Settings --> USB Setings (under wireless & network may differ depending on Rom used) --> Try other settings Mass storage
3.Different USB ports on PC
4.Uninstall KIES from PC (reboot PC to take effect) and Reboot and just install samsung USB drivers....
5.Using windows type in msconfig in Start>Run box... windows will pop up and untick KIES from STARTUP TAB
Apply to take effect and restart machine.. try using ODIN to Flash ROM
I myself only use the Samsung USB drivers and ODIN never use KIES
or ...Check my signature and try SD formatter
Hi,
I was using F1 V6 ROM on JVK for some time (flashed it with no problems using Odin and Clockwork). After some time, it started to crash more often. I triend V7 but it was even worse so I got back to V6. The only problem was often restarts and sometimes slow operation.
Yesterday I decided to switch to Cyanogen to give it a try. I did it without flashing from scratch. I just used Cyanogen 7.1 installation through Clockwork. It seemed OK untill I tried to connect my phone to PC via USB. I couldn't get any response from PC (not even a sound indicating that something was connected to USB) or Phone (no mount USB screen).
So I was able to charge my phone through USB but not to connect it to PC (tried 2 PCs, different cables, different ports). It doesn't seem like driver problem (no sign of connecting phone to PC, nothing).
I thought that it might be some problem with Cyanogen ROM. So I tried to go back to F1 V6 (wipe) through Clockwork. After doing it, I got boot loop but still showing the logo of Cyanogen (not SGSII from F1). Having no USB connection and being unable to start the phone, I tried to do recovery (I had a backup of F1 V6 from the moment before installing Cyanogen. That didn't go well either. The process stopped and left me with Samsung Galaxy S logo (no boot loop - just hanging there). I cant get into recovery mode anymore. I can only get to download mode.
So the status right now is:
Download mode - OK
USB - can't get phone to connect with PC (no signs of connection so probably not a driver problem but maybe? I tried reinstalling kies, drivers, running Odin, no sign of connected phone, USBDeview shows no Samsung or Kies or Android drivers in my system right now).
Hanging on the Samsung Galaxy S screen.
Did anyone had similar situation?
What do you advice? Any idea on a atest checking if USB hardware is fine?
Was it possible to break USB hardware or driver in phone by installing Cyanogen 7.1 on F1 V6 SGS2?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cyanogen uses a different file system, so to get it back to a Sammy ROM you need to flash it with Odin. and cyanogen doesn't use the Sammy driver for connecting to the PC. download nexus s drivers from the Android SDK and install it.

OK, so how do I install these drivers when my PC can't see that I have my phone connected to USB port? There is no driver error. After connection nothing happens.
Is there a way to install these drivers on Windows 7 without actually having sgs listed on device list?
any help with that?

Reflash the CM7 Rom, and see if it shows up in device manager. Do you get an option on CM to share disc drives with usb plugged to the computer?
Oh, and if you have KIES installed, try remove it and remove the driver pack too (i know it affects ODIN's ability to see the phone).
Solved
Thanks for help.
I got different cable (third) and different (third) PC and somehow it worked - PC noticed connection of SGS in download mode and than it was easy.
I installed clean JVT, than CF-Root and CM 7.1 + google apps.
It seems to work fine for now.
Please close this thread.
Cheers
Okay a little backstory:
I was on an early version of CM9 but as i am selling the phone i decided to put a more stable version of it on there and downloaded CM7 -stable.
I flashed this in CWM and it worked fine.
I gave it a quick test and noticed all the google apps were missing, most importantly the market. So i booted into recovery and realised i had forgotten to put the zip on the SD card.
I then went into mounts and mounted USB, nothing happened...
From that point onwards the phone would not talk to the PC. even if i booted up into the phone, it would just show it as charging. I could not find any options in the menus for USB options.
After some extensive reading, i tried a few things, none of them had worked. I found a post mentioning some kernels have issues with USB, so i downloaded the recommended one and flashed it in CWM.
After rebooting, CWM was now orange and not blue and the option to flash from external card has gone.
I have also done some digging and there is a good posibility that the kernal that i flashed was for the GT I9000 (which is the american one, right?)
So as it is at the moment:-
I can get into CWM.
I can get into download mode through the 3 button combo.
I can get into download mode using home made jig.
I can boot the phone, but it boot loops.
I can not get the phone to be detected on the pc.
Things i have checked:
Cable will connect other phones.
Tried different cable to be sure.
Phone used to be detected, but downloaded drivers through kies again to be sure.
Closed Kies using task manager.
Nothing is coming up in network connections in device manager when phone is connected.
I'm out of ideas now, so £10 PayPal donation for anyone that comes up with the solution to fix it
If i can get it detected, i can use Odin to flash what i want.
Sounds like a drivers problem. You may need the 'Google driver' developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
When I had bootloops when I first installed CM9 I used heimdall to flash a the stock CM9 kernel. This gave me back CWM.
heimdall flash --kernel 'kernel.zip'
In the commandline.
Thanks for that,
I already had the Google USB drivers from when i installed the SDK to make some apps.
So i then gave Heimdall a try (Graphical Version), it seemed to suffer the same problem.
Reporting "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."
I seem to remember the GUI saying I didn't have the correct drivers and it downloaded them for me.
The other thing worth a try is changing the USB port and reinstalling the correct drivers on that port.
I've not seen anything like that, it has not asked me for any drivers.
It's like the phone is not connected at all. nothing will detect it, i have even tried it on another PC.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by installing on a port.
Well sometimes changing USB port will allow you to install new drivers. Although if you've tried it in another computer and it doesn't work then changing port may not help.
Does the phone appear in device manager when it's connected and in download mode?
Nope. Not coming up at all in the device manager. It didn't when it was booting fine. And it still doesn't in download mode. :-( I'm thinking the usb connector on the phone might be faulty.
But it was working up until trying to mount the USB in CWM

I don't suppose you have access to a Linux PC do you? Windows USB drivers are notoriously sucky. If you could plug it into a Linux PC and type 'lsusb' at a command line, that would at least show you that the device is really there.
I think I have a spare pc kicking around that I could use. I'll give it a go when I get home tonight.

Remove all the drivers completely from device manager for Samsung, then install fresh drivers and connect the cable when in download mode, hopefully it will recognize it
Are you sure the connector is clean? e.g. maybe there's dust in it.
I had that problem once, the connector was full of fabric fibers from some coat's pocket I had the phone in.
Suggestion 1 (Linux): I installed ubuntu, did not detected anything to even install any drivers. Detected my new phone fine.
Suggestion 2 (Uninstall drivers from device manager): I could not find any drivers named with the name Samsung in there.
Suggestion 3 (Clean port): I have some compressed air that i sprayed inside, it does look pretty clean and will continue to charge but still not connection on the pc.
To install the drivers for heimdall you have to run zdiag from inside the driver folder. Had to do this earlier on, the phone the other appeared as something other than Samsung composite usb or whatever it normally says
I tried this, and it displayed 9 devices after selecting show all. I seemed to recognise all of the items in the menu.
To be sure, I then disconnected the phone and re ran it to see if one of the items were missing, but it was the same number.
I too had problem with the usb connection on my i9000, and I was pretty sure my usb connector on the phone is somewhat damaged since it sometimes can only go to charging mode without being detected by my pc as a usb device. CWM instal is fine but ODIN can only detect the phone without able to flash the rom to the phone. The flashing will always stuck at the message "Setting Up Connection", I waited for 15 minutes and the flashing will eventually died. I retry the odin flash for 40 to 50 times and eventually the flashing will go through one time. Tried heidmall command line and the result is the same.
I have problem with Odin in the past. I bought a new laptop, running Win7 64 bit. Installed Samsung Kies to install the correct USB drivers for the phone. Then made sure that Kies wasn't running in the background. So tried using Odin. Odin was detecting the phone, but it was hanging at initialising connection. Odin was working fine on my old laptop running Win7 32bit. Long story short, I was having a few issues with my new laptop, reinstalled Win7 64bit, now Odin is working fine, have flashed the phone a few times using the new computer.
After flashing which kernel you started facing this problem?
Wipe ur phone,re-flash CM7(flash the nightly 181,it's completely stable),uninstall KIES,uninstall old usb drivers, install these usb drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956 ,check that USB storage mode is set as Mass Storage and then connect your phone. The point at which i could no longer mount the USB was when i selected "mount usb" from CWM. I later installed a new kernal which downgraded my CWM, removing the install from external SD option.
So I cant flash a re-flash a rom unless i can it onto the phone which without the USB working is near impossible.

I have a galaxy tab P1000
currently froyo 2.2
wanted to upgrade to GB
Tried the Odin way from another link on this site (MANUAL updation for galaxy tab(p1000) into 2.3.3 gingerbread ), it failed and the Tab got soft bricked,
somehow managed to unbrick it, now its back to its original fw, but it keeps restarting in a loop until i switchd the damn thing off completely
I have tried to go in download mode to flash but odin doesnt recognise it , tried differnt computers too, no use.
I have gone in recovery mode, hard reset, wipe cache , still when i switch it on, it goes in a reboot loop.
tried to use heimdall. cant get sucess as i might not understand how to use it properly
Please help.
Sincere thanks to you if you can help me get my tab up and running., if not in GB atleast back in froyo.
(PS- i im not worried about my data , and i have not backed up the rom etc before doing any of these)
Try to reinstall or install a usb driver from samsung

Yeah, happened to me too, nearly had a sh*t my pants when Odin didn't recognise my Tab.
I would recommend -
charge the Tab fully using wall adapter (4 hrs+)
plug it in with Odin open and using USB cable
don't expect Odin to recognise the Tab immediately
check back after 5 mins or so (I don't know, does Odin refresh?)
I was able to restore my Tab from the PC - ! - Marvin screen.
I don't want to go back there again though!
yea dude.. same here
i kept it on charge for a couple of hours and then tried.. bam it conencts..

Thanks in advance guys!..
Earlier I was using Cyanogen mode 10 Custom ROM but has few issues like recognize SD card.
later I flashed to Humber OS caused real problem.
It was clock work recovery installed but my tab tab boots stays on screen humber OS.
It goes to recovery mode, and also to some unknown recovery mode.
Either the way not recognized by computer. I tried all options like heimtal an Odin. No help.
Friends any help, would be highly appreciated.

Any solution to this given the fact that usb drivers have been installed?
Are you sure it is recognised by the computer before trying Odin or Heimdall?
I seen this in a post:
#################################################################################
4 Reasons Why Odin is Not Detecting Your Android Device:
Reason 1: No drivers installed for your phone
Most of the time Odin is not able to detect your phone, simply because you haven’t installed the drivers for your phone. Normally windows would automatically download the respective drivers for your phone from the internet and install it. But in case it isn’t able to do so, you need to download the drivers from your phone manufacturer’s website.
Reason 2: Inferior quality or damaged USB cable
Odin is very sensitive to low quality or damaged USB cables, which is a major reason why odin will detect your android phone in file transfer mode but fail to detect it in download mode. You might have a genuine USB cable that came with your Android phone but with time its quality will depreciate, which is why you might have to get a new USB cable.
Reason 3: Odin is corrupted
This happened once with a reader on my blog, we tried everything to solve his problem, but in the end using a different version of Odin worked out for him.
Reason 4: USB port is defective
Defective USB ports can also be a reason for Odin not detecting your Android phone. This was a problem faced by one of my readers and plugging the USB cable in another USB port worked out for him.

I seen this in a post:

This was a problem faced by one of my readers and plugging the USB cable in another USB port worked out for him.

reason 1: my phone is samsung and it's detected by ODIN, kies and I transfer files from and to my computer without problems. also tried reinstalling just in case but nothing, so I guess this is not the answer for my problem
reason 2: tried with original cable, but as I didn't use the tablet for a long time I also thought it could be the cable, so I asked a friend of mine if he could lend me one cable, but that didn't work. pity. :/
reason 3: tried 3 different versions of ODIN, and in every version my phone (mentioned above) is detected. shame. :S
reason 4: tried the 3 different USB ports in my laptop. two 2.0 USB ports and one 3.0 USB port, so again I doubt this is the reason of my problem.
extra reason: ~~~ maybe it's the OS version ~~~ // this laptop came with windows 8 preinstalled. nothing. then, I updated to win 8.1. again nothing. now I'm running windows 10 and the same, nothing is detected neither by ODIN nor the computer. also tried in 4 different computers running win xp, win 7 and other with win 8.1.
btw, thank you anyway for your apportation; this may help other people, but unfortunately, it's not my case, so can anybody else join me to think about a new reason and a way to solve it? thank you very much :good: :highfive: :fingers-crossed:
~~~~~~~~~~~~ EDIT ~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have continued researching and found a software. it didn't work for me, but maybe it works for other people.
-first, you have to make sure you have java installed on your computer.
-second, extract the oneclick.rar file on an easy-access directory.
-third, put your tab on download mode (while charging icon when tab is turned off, press power + volume down until a yellow triangle appears).
-fourth, click start unsoft-brick and let the magic begin! 8)
note: if a warning error pops up, trust the software and click on resolution center and follow the instructions of one of the three "alternative ways".
