Hey my friend gave me his old droid that won't turn on. I notice when I plug it in my computer the white LED next to the micro usb port turns on. When I pull the battery hold up on the d-pad and put the battery back in the screen turns on for a while but then goes black. Am I wasting my time? the power button is also stuck and the battery is swollen(is that bad?)
it also has a clean ESN and is not stolen...but I assume the warranty is over on it? could I replace it through insurance?
im guessing the battery is like messed up and when u turn it on does it show the M logo ??

I was using Nexus One since the last year. I upgraded to Cm6.1R2 last December. Since then the phone was fine and I'd say I was an extremely happy man with cyanogenmod. A week back my phone suddenly stopped working and whatever I did to bring the phone back to life, failed. I tried to go into bootloader to flash the latest CM rom by holding the power button + track ball, power button+vol.up, power button+vol up &down, power+vol up+down+track ball. None could bring up the bootloader and the screen is completely black. Whenever I connect my charger I see the green light which the only sign of life in my phone. I tried to reset my phone by removing the battery and putting it back after while. With the charger when I remove the battery I could see that the LED flickers between orange and green. I don't know what to do. Please help me
Have you tried booting the phone without the battery inserted, connected to the mains only? Short of that it really does sound like your phone is bricked. HTC would be your best bet, sorry mate. Also, make sure to try charging the phone for a few hours. I once thought mine was bricked and it turned out to be a buggy app that completely drained the battery requiring a good charge before it wud even turn on.
Hi there,
my brother's Milestone doesn't boot at all, not even the "M" logo at the beginning. It's a rooted phone, with stock 2.2
He was using it (with enough battery) and it suddenly switched off.
I have tried with the battery of my own Milestone, but still his phone doesn't boot up at all.
Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
plug it into a wall charger without a battery.. see if anything happens
Thanks. While light surrounds the microUSB connection in the phone, but screen doesn't show anything.
what if you tap the power button and hold it down?
Does the screen light up a little or is it pitch black?
Nope, screen doesn't light up at all. Guess there's no home-made solution then.
Dunno... I guess you tried holding x or camera with it plugged in and no battery?
Normally you can get to recovery without the battery when plugged in

Exactly, tried all that altogether with power button, but ... nothing.
It's not a problem during the flashing process, which can be usually fixed by that, is just that it doesn't do anything anymore.
Guess I'll send it to Motorola. Maybe I'll get "lucky" and get a Milestone 2 in exchange as someone else in the forum.
hi,
My wifi was broke in my G1.
I want to change daughterboard -> this little board with wifi, usb port ect.. but there is a little battery in this board.
Can I change it without this battery (it was broke away) ?
does the new board not have the battery? if not you can swap it, just a little solder holding it in place
it was taken from old G1. during putting out this board the battery was dropped out.
Yesterday i try to put this board with wifi in my G1 and I think I broke the phone.
When i click "power" the display shows fastboot for 1 second and nothing else. auto-turning off.
after thet I change board for the old one (with broken wifi) but there is the same problem
turn on -> display show fastboot for 1 second -> auto turning off.
Nothing
Looks to me as a problem with power, i.e. either your battery is completely empty and you have to charge it, or you might have somewhere a shortcut ...
if you plug your phone into your computer or ac outlet with the power to the phone off will the red led light come on? if yes then wait until it is green and then try to restart it. also if your phone goes straight to fastboot? is it possible the small board connected to the daughterboard might need to be swapped as well? as in the back arrow is constantly be pushed when you power.
try a little more testing and report your findings
I plug in and charge phone until green led come on.
but this didn't help.
I can't power on with back arrow because fastboot shows for fraction of a second.
I don't have another motherboard to try to change itd.
Is it possible, that one of tape (which is connecting boards) is broke and there is effect like this ?
I just purchased a used htc dream because it was cheap, it's a neat phone, and I love tinkering. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to turn on. When I plug it in the red led turns on solid. When I press the power button to turn it on, the light goes out and won't turn back on until I pull the battery and replug. Is this a bad battery? Is it worth buying a new battery to find out? It has proper voltage when i tested it with a multimeter.... Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
Broken battery, might be. Try charging the battery at least for half an hour / an houre before switching on the phone.
Another possibility: broken backlight. In that case it seems switched off, because the screen stays very very dark, but the phone is booting up and working.

does it vibrate shortly after you attempt to turn it on? if it does chances are lcd or flex cable, the usual culprat being the flex

I did charge it for several hours and the light turned green. Same results when trying to turn it on. No vibrate or sounds. perhaps the next time i order parts from china I'll get a battery if it is cheap enough.
In my opinion, the backlight is dead...if the battery LED indicator, after u charge it several hrs turns green then ur phone is turning on but u cant see it working...
Hello
When i remove the ac charger from the wall my screen goes black, the phone will still working, i can hear sounds and etc...
the weird part, is that if i remove the usb part 1st before the wall, i don't get this black screen.
i usually remove the battery and restart to get the screen back on.
When i upgraded to ICS , i still face the same issue, but instead of removing the battery, i can just re-plug it into the wall and i get the screen light back on!!!
i think it is some screen hardware fault
any help?
