Recommended Installation
1. Back up your current version. (I use Root Explorer)
2. Uninstall Updates (Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, Select Gmail...)
3. Install apk
4. Reboot Device
or
You could use Root Explorer:
1. navigate to /system/app/Gmail.apk
2. Make a copy of your original.
3. Copy the new Gmail apk to /system/app/Gmail.apk (Make sure that G is capitalized).
4. Change permissions to rw-r--r-- or in permissions, 3 checks under "Read", 1 check under "Write", the rest unchecked.
5. Reboot.

Ok, here's the one I've been using and tinkering with for a while.
I'm not even positive who to credit with the base version, but Fernando Sor and Ecsnead are the main dudes.
Font color changed to almost white as requested.
Also, main email and labels screens are slightly transparent. I'll update the OP with photos n stuff later on.

I think I found the location.. and, hehe, those colors are pretty similar.

I'm gonna pick a color first to make it easier to identify, and change all instances of it.. just to test it out. But I'll get to the bottom of it. I haven't seen a Gmail specific tutorial. If anyone-- Dreams would probably know.

I switched out the colors..

you need to rename this and copy or push to /system/app/Gmail.apk ... or it might install normally.. I forgot right now

I can't find the folder /system/app ?
I used Astro to install it, and it just gave me the standard white version. I rebooted into recovery, but it's just an apk, so not there. Please help this newb out

I created a backup first just in case.
I flashed 'the hand of sean' to my Modaco 2.9. Hero.
Worked flawlessly and EVERYTHING is in that font (even the clock time in the notification bar!), looks quite cool!

download the font and rename to DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf
then extract the files from one of the prepackaged zips and replace the files in fonts with the ones you renamed
then delete the three files in META INF that aren't a directory (so leave the com folder alone) and then rezip it and resign it and there ya go
EDIT: did it for ya .. didnt test it but it should work

no i can't becuase of two reason.
1. The browser will lag and so will your phone.
2. The file itself is half a megabyte.
other than that it is a really good font.
It worked just fine..... no lag of slow browser here... looks sick as hell too!

From cm updater there is a font update that you can download. You could always flash a theme or a rom to get it back.

i was wonderin tho. i installed it and im guessin the font to big and on some of the words they cut off at the end. is there a way to fix it so it can be perfect fit and now words would be cut offf?

If you want to make it into an update.zip, I think more people would be able to try it. For some reason, the new SU doesn't play nice with metamorph on our phones

installed nice and quick, but upon start up launcher pro fc'd. No custom icons either. Same with the system font. Only thing thats really different is the notifications bar. Used the update.zip method.
EDIT: Also the MediaProvider.apk is installed but won't launch and the system theme has not changed

I tested this on mine and worked fine and about custom icons and custom fonts those aren't included on the metamorph theme he posted is just the notification bar, notifications icons and pulldown bar btw mediaprovider.apk is just an icon that scan media is not a launchable app so don't know what you mean.

OP, I just flashed this. Looks really nice. Only thing I've noticed so far is the pop up messages haven't changed, they are still white/grey on blue.

You should include MediaProvider.apk for the media scanner icon to match, is on the flashable zip i made.

and then use clock work recovery or stock recovery to re install packages?
This is the newest version on the market.. I still left links to the older version just in case.. Thanks to ecsnead69 for icons and helping me locate a few things...... Enjoy!
On the screenshots, the blue icons and the blue divider are from my theme.. they're not in the app
Installation Guide:
1. You need to check if Gmail is located in the system partition or Data first. To do this the easy way is to go to settings/apps/manage/all/Gmail and if you have the option to uninstall then it's data.. otherwise it's system.. or, use root explorer and go check both partitions..
2. If your's is in data/app then just uninstall your's and then this one will install like a normal app. If you get any fc's at first, go to settings/apps/manage/all/Gmail or Dark Gmail and clear cache and data from the app.. that fixes it.
3. If your's is in system/app use Titanium Backup or root explorer to uninstall the app and then REBOOT... then install this one. It'll install to data so if you get any fc's, clear cache and data in the app or move it to system.. I've had all of mine in data and they were originally in system and I've had no issues at all...

Thanx guys! I just flashed this to my Sam. Captivate by renaming the file update.zip and used clockwork mod.I didn't uninstall the original Gmail and it worked perfectly.Beforehand I had unistalled the original Gmail and it didn't work.Lrooks pretty sweet with my mostly dark theme.

Miui might be the problem.... I've never ran that rom so I don't know the set up.... if it was in system/app first then you should move it back to system... if it was in data then I honestly don't know... but I'm sorry cause I hate when my stuff has issues....

Am loving the look of your apps, there is just one thing that I have been trying to do the your modded apps but have been having trouble.
I have been trying to apply the following patch to allow 3rd party to read the number of unread messages from gmail to provide usefull info - this was working up until the 2.3.5 gmail release.

I have a bad habit of asking for this but is there anyway to get the default icon? I tried to open the apk in an OS X variant of 7Zip but when I installed it the icon was replaced by an android placeholder. If not it's not the end of the world.
I didn't make the new icon but I can make one with the stock app icon and pm it to ya..... which version and color?

Hey folks,
Today I played around with the SwiftKey apk and build my own ICS Theme. So far I have only tested it with my own phone and version (DHD with 200 DPI, SwiftKey X v2.2.0.121). Feel free to follow the short tutorial and enjoy the ICS experience.
Requirements:
Installed JDK
AutoSign (see attachments)
WinRAR or 7zip (untested)
SwiftKey X (tested with v2.2.0.121)
Steps:
Download the attachments
Pull the SwiftKey apk off your phone
Open the apk with WinRAR or 7zip
Copy the content of the "ICS Theme.zip" into the equivalent folders in the SwiftKey apk
Most of the files have to go into the "res" folder - Only "resources.arsc" has to go into the root folder!
Delete the "META-INF" folder inside the apk file
Sign the apk using AutoSign by copying it into the AutoSign folder and starting "sign.bat"
[*]Deinstall your previous version of SwiftKey X
Install new one
Change the theme inside the SwiftKey Properties
Enjoy, hit the thanks button and leave some feedback!

After installing I can see my app themed like the 1st screenshot you've posted. It's nicer than the stock one but I'd like to have SK themed like the SECOND screenshot you've posted or anyway you should use a darker gray far keys, much similar to the one in the stock Android keyboard... that will look cool!
This better matches the ICS gray. The other one is too Bright imho.
To improve this mod, I suggest you to ad a themed "dark theme" with ICS blue replacing the Gingerbread green.... That would be REALLY appreciated, something like this posted in the VIP forums of SK.
I'll try to make it myself and see what happens.
Anyway, you did a really good work!

This better matches the ICS gray. The other one is too Bright imho.
To improve this mod, I suggest you to ad a themed "dark theme" with ICS blue replacing the Gingerbread green.... That would be REALLY appreciated, something like this posted in the VIP forums of SK.

The second screenshot shows the popup when long pressing a key, it's actually the same theme. If you like it a bit darker, just go ahead and change "default_btn_keyboard_key_normal_numbers.9.png" as well as "default_btn_keyboard_key_normal.9.png" to your taste. Don't forget signing the apk before you copy it to your phone!
EDIT: As for the actual "dark theme" you mentioned... I'll see what i can come up with tomorrow.

well, actually I tryed to modify some of the res files, but they lose the transparency of the background after being saved with photoshop never happened this before (transparency is lost even if not modifing the file and obviously saving in png format).

Wonder if the theming is possible for non-HDPI devices? I couldn't get the install to work on my Galaxy S2 LTE (sgh-i727r) so I'm guessing my phone isn't HDPI..
Was it difficult for you to dev this? I'm thinking about trying to make the theme possible for non-HDPI devices if it wasn't too too complicated.

This mod working only with Odex system. (F340K)
-White battery icon.
-Black status bar (instead of ugly gray)
Instruction:
1) Copy and replace LGSystemUI.apk and LGSystemUI.odex to system/app (please before you copy in to system/app make sure you set the write permission on both apk's which is rw-r--r--)
2) Restart device.

USB3 is great upgrade, a lot faster data transfers between computer and phone.

It is transparent, but when you go to settings or messages/etc you will see "black" color instead ugly grey.
Pleade do a back up first.

i did this mod but now my status bar and my home screen buttons are gone. i followed the tutorial to the t. can i get the regular files i replaced with these? and are there any odexed roms were i can use on my lg-d959?

Here you buddy. This is not flashable. Just extract abs drop in/system/app. By the way i think if you just replaced the odex file you would keep the mod, but fix the fc.

I guess only Titanium can get my device set up in a usable state...
Edit: Titanium made very worse things well. I dont know whats wrong with your files but you should add an BIG RED WARNING to backup data first, if you dont want to make people angry with your stuff...

A couple things. First, what model are you using. Second, since I'm the only one who posted a fix I assume that part about it not working was to me.... So the file I uploaded was for the guy using the T-Mobile device, if yours isn't it won't work for you. Finally, and pay attention please. there is no need for him to put a red backup your data warning. That is ALWAYS the first step when you're modding your phone. That is one that doesn't need to be stated and you feel it does I highly suggest you hold off with further mods until we have a recovery.
