Hi all,
Long story made short, I was trying to downgrade from Froyo 2.2 on my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S (which gave me nothing but pure misery) to the stock 2.1.
I used ODIN to flash a new ROM, and unfortunately, I'm assuming it was the wrong ROM (I9000UGJG8). My phone now loads into the Android system recovery (2e). I can select options using the up and down volume keys, but the power button won't execute them. At the bottom of the screen, it says:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD: copy default media content failed.
I am unable to get into download mode (I've tried the button combinations and a combination where you plug the USB cable into it while it's off).
The phone is visible in ODIN.
I've been scouring the internet the last several days searching and trying to get my phone to the android it used to be. I've searched the forums and am starting to loose my sanity trying to fix this.
Any help is much appreciated. I know the answer is somewhere out there, but I'm having trouble finding it and am getting tired of trying to fix this phone.
Regards,
Jesse
OK detail what you have tried so far. And can you get to download mode, have you tried another rom or ezbase?
Is the t-mobile sgs compatible with the i9000?

Wow, I completely posted this under the wrong forum...that's how burned out I am trying to fix my mistakes.
Thanks for the help, I'm going to try the CORRECT one.

Hi,
I flashed the Pre rooted JP3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748131 and then installed the [UTIL] One Click Lag Fix 2.0 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751864
I used the phone for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden everything kept crashing.
I booted into the clockwork recovery and reset to factory and then was not able to boot.
I tried flashing back to I9000UGJH2 with Pit512 and Odin and after it flashes successfully the phone starts I see the galaxy S I9000 and then it shows me a grey battery sign and then a busy circle sign and then gray battery and keeps repeating.
When I boot without the usb cable it shows me the Galaxy I9000m sign and then just turns off.
When I tried reflashing the JP3 from the site above and after it finishes it comes to the Android System Recovery <3e> and displays the following message:
Update Media please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory) E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:"
Your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
copy default media content failed.
When I boot it moves past the Galaxy I9000m screen shows me the galaxy screen with animation and sound, the screen then goes of leaving me with a black screen and the buttons lit.
I cannot format the internal SD card and I cannot seem to get the hone to boot into android, I can boot into downloader.
Any help would be appreciated
P.S. I have ticked the repartition option in Odin
Odin should theoretically work. I've never clicked repartition myself however a lot of people do seem to recommend it.
If you're out of things to try and you want to give the latest (not publicly released) version of Heimdall (my Odin flashing software alternative) a go let me know and I'll PM you the download link.
That gray battery with a spinning circle sounds like the charging screen when the phone is off. Have you tried and let it charge up over night?
The battery is full.
I managed to get the I9000UGJH2 rom up and running by inserting an external sd card.
But here are some issues:
Once booted neither of the SD cards are recognized
If I power down / reboot phone, it will not start again, it shows the I9000m screen and turns off.
I suspect whatever the one click lag did to my SD cards needs to be reversed.
Ok,
So after tonnes of playing around with the device. I can confirm that it has something to do with he internal SD card.
I need to somehow format the entire internal SD card so that even Odin can see it. I tried using the stock recovery and clockworks with no luck.
It just wont see the card.
Any suggestions?
Phone won't reboot ODIN says PASS, Frozen on Galaxy S home screen
I first installed JP2 and was able to get it working. Then I made an attempt to install JP3 but it didn't work. My phone screen kept on flashing i.e. off and on. I then went back and tried to install JP2. While I was installing it, I got an error message saying unable to mount sd card (similar to what rumy got). I am in the exact scenario as rumy and now i don't know what to do. It's a brand new phone and I am very scared.
Any ideas on what I can do now. I am installing JH2 as I write. Hopefully, that will work.
Please help me if someone knows how to get out of this situation.
thanks

Well, I am still trying but no luck.
We need an adb expert / odin one to help us somehow repartition the internal sd card I think.
I believe with the lagfix on jp3 it got repartitioned and then corrupted.
I also think we should start adventuring outside this device as there might be more senior trouble shooters / experts who own other htc devices that might be able to help.
I used to get this on my htc dream try going back to original firmware the only I found it to work was rip a rom to pieces get misc.img then enter console via recovery and flash_image misc misc.img then something else but cant seem to remember think its mount-o rw,remount -r yaffs2 /dev/block/mmcblkop3 /system. dont quote me on this try typing the error into google

The lagfixes do not repartition anything so this is (most likely) an issue that is not related to the lagfix.
Try going back to somthing like JF3 with the 513.pit file and repartition enabled.
The exact same thing happened to me - installed JP3 then lagfix. Phone was unstable after so I tried to reflash via ODIN (with repartition) and no matter what I did I could not successfully reflash my phone or get it to boot.
Only solution - returned it to the store as a DOA and got a replacement device.
Upon further research, it is known that JP3 screws up the internal SDCARD. Marks it as read only or something like that - search google for JP3 sdcard for more details.
Bottom line - your phone is bricked. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I wonder if this would help fix it.

That installs a different Linux distro underneath android and is totally unrelated! (Not to mention not doable in the state the phone is in)
OT: I don't believe you should give up quite yet. Try flashing a new firmware and afterwards, install Clockwork recovery!
From there you can format your internal SD. You will lose all your data but I strongly believe it will help fix your problem from what I have read here so far!
Edit: I added a warning to the flash guide in my FAQ for I9000M owners for now!
hey try this
Why dont you try to use the odin 1 click downloader over in the captivate forums. I know that we captivate people are running the i9000 firmware with a stock captivate kernal under it. Worth a try.

I'm not sure what you mean. I am pretty sure he used Odin to flash the firmware. I think you are talking about the same program he already is using.
Damn. There are so many known traps out there, yet we don't have a compile of them anywhere. I didn't know that I shouldn't uninstall Google Talk until I actually did it. We need things like this in the FAQ.

"Do not uninstall google talk" is not something you need or want in an faq. It's called a frequently asked questions because they are frequent. I have never before seen someone who tried or even wanted to uninstall google talk (not to mention that this is a goggle os and removing central apps like that is bound to produce problems). And if you mess around with root like that you have only yourself to blame for not doing enough research!

OK DONOT TRY THIS!
This made things worse for me.
I lost downloader mode too now all i see is the AT&T screen showing up
Calm down and tell us exactly what you did. It sounds like the initial problems that occurred on early recovery. The download mode should still be reachable. I don't think recovery can completely brick your phone.

If you research this error via Google you will find several references to JP3 screwing up the permissions/structure of the internal SDCARD.
I spent several days trying to fix this issue on my phone and no matter what I did (Clockwork or no) I could not get the phone to reset/recognize the SDCARD.
As I said, my only recourse was returning the phone for a replacement. I really hope you find a fix but I think it unlikely.
Sorry for the new thread, I'm a noob and don't have a clue about this phone or what is wrong with it. I just bought the phone a few weeks ago from some dude at ebay and after a phone call it froze so i pulled the battery out and after that disaster strike with a black screen. I did a wipe data/factory restore since I'm able to get into the recovery mode and the download mode but with no luck. Everywhere I search it leads me to the sad reallity of a damaged phone. I will really appreciated if someone could please gide me throught the step by step fix since I dont really know much about the phone nor software. I could paypal my thanks to anyone with the time and experties on this SGS issue. Since I didnt expect this to happen I have no idea the exact kernel version other than 2.2 froyo xx something also don't know if it had the lagfix active or not of it even had lagfix and the debuging usb thing if it was on or off. I'm into a big **** hole right now please help me out.
Thanks again and my appologies if i broke any forum rules.

Hello everyone,
I've been having a really bad time with my Spring GTab in the last few days... to keep it simple:
1. Had a stock GTab that was showing problems, most of the applications were crashing (force closed), but it was still usable after a reboot. On one of those reboots it did not came up any more and got stuck at the Samsung logo.
2. After researching on the forums, tried to install 2.3.3 following this procedure:
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-tab-to-stable-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/
Odin successfully installed the ROM, got to recovery mode and tried to factory/clear cache. Showed errors... Stuck at Samsung logo again.
3. Tried to install the stock sprint EA24 following these steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009926
No matter what I do, Odin stops at recovery.bin and fails.
4. Following the suggestions there I then installed nomodem EJ30 successfully, but again got stuck at samsung logo. Tried to install the EA24 from there with no luck, still failing at recovery.bin.
So as of now, I am at the same point as at the beginning, stuck at the Samsung logo...
Guys this is driving me crazy... any help will be highly appreciated!!!!!!

Not sure if that's the problem....
Do a little search(there's a search botton) on this forum it's a common problem, already answered if I remember correctly. Hope it helps.

Did you try this ? The first boot always takes a little longer, be sure to let it boot long enough.
I already answer this in other treat. Anyway, i answer it again.

My meaning, flash back to stock rom that originally come with your tab and see how its going on.

Hi, I tried SPH-P100.EA24.SECURE.REV07-FULL_CL871413.tar, which is the stock rom, it loaded correcty using Heimdall, but removing the modem, but it is still stuck at the samsung logo, I left it on during all the night yesterday but it did not loaded...
I am seeing the following errors in the recovery mode:

E:Can't mount CACHE:log/recovery.log
E:Can't open CACHE:log/recovery.log
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1

Not sure if this is the problem... what do you think?
Can I load any of these firmwares? I want to test but trying to avoid making the problem bigger...

hey,
i haven't used my samsung gt i9000 in a while and i just went back to use it. while charging it, all i get it is something that looks like a spinning cursor that just blinks on the screen. i don't remember if that is normal or not.
anyway, when i unplug it from charging, the logo screen starts but then it blinks back to black and then back to the logo screen and that continues for ever.
i can get into the down+power+home button screen (download, do not turn off device with construction android dude) and i'm wondering if there's anyway to fix this or maybe tell me what's going on.
also, i was wondering if there was anyway to start from scratch in terms of flashing that i've done before. to wipe everything and start loading up things from the start. i don't remember anything i've done with this phone from before so that's why
THANKS
You could try flashing a stock rom through odin
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
so i did that, loaded 2.3.4 gingerbread using odin. odin said it passed it rebooted.
a few things i noticed right off the bat: the battery charging symbol is working properly now with a battery loading up and little dots under that scrolling through. however, i'm still having the problem where it loads up, goes to the samsung galaxy s gt i9000 logo loading screen (like before) and then it just sits there for a bit (10-15 seconds) and finally restarts. it keeps looping through that.
any ideas?
Try odoning froyo

I'd suggest flashing jm9 eclair - it's fixed any issues i've ever had, some of which have been MAJOR! You can grab it from samfirmware
Good luck. let us know how it goes.

tried to reload froyo with odin again and when it comes back to the recovery screen i'm getting:

(no such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared ye. Pleas use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy deault media content failed.
i tried to update using update.zip or something like that and it gives the same error but instead it says there's a problem with the zip.
any ideas? just to make sure, i have the samsung galaxy s gt i9000 (Canada)
That's usually a dead sd card, flash a stock rom and send it in under warranty. They are all under a year old so don't let a lack of receipt stop you.

Lots - look in the stickies for links to the I9000M issues. But unless it's just corrupted, where a good flash with repartition should fix it, I think that particular error is the bad one we I9000M owners dread.

Are you flashing stock firmeware with the three files and pit file through odin which includes the bootloaders? Not saying you arent but there is not much info on how you are flashing.
It's a Sprint Galaxy Tab.
I went to the sticky in the dev forum on how to unbrick. Ran Odin and the stock software, it goes through successfully but when I boot it will have the Sprint splash screen and then just goes to a Samsung screen and never comes off of it.
When I go to the Recovery screen, I get this message:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount CACHE:log/recovery.log
E: Can't open CACHE:log/recovery.log
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
it also repeats this when I try to do a wipe on it.
I've tried putting an update.zip on the SD card and it will go about 1/4 of the way before going to the screen with the exclamation point and the Android guy.
I've tried using the EA24 flasher. When I click the Start Download button to start the software update I get an error that says "Unable to open binary file!"
any other ideas on where to go from here?
Sounds like you just need to do a factory reset / wipe in recovery (I saw the same errors and did the same when I flashed the Sprint Gingerbread ROM to my Verizon Tab). That worked for me, I'll bet it works for you too.
EDIT: Hmm, sorry I missed that you said you wiped already?
I used Heimdall to flash kernel + factoryfs.rfs in my case, that alone should be enough to be up and running I would think.
update.zip method is *very* fussy, all files are hash checked, needs stock recovery and stock kernel etc., that did work for me one time, but as I say, it's very fussy. I'd think a stock rooted ROM (like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161033) may be best. Worth a shot anyway.
yep, did the wipe and it pulled that message.
Tried SuperOneClick to see if I could get anywhere but no luck. Was looking through the sticky about trying to root it and run a different ROM to see if that may help but it looks like I need a working unit to do that to get into some of the settings like USB debugging and what not.
I am going to try the heimdall thing next. Hopefully I can get somewhere with that because I'm running out of options. Appreciate the info!
Make sure you use your shipped stock rom... It maybe you have locked bootloaders and it won't allow you to upgrade without unlocking 1st...
Not sure about the CDMA gtabs though as I use a GSM tab, though reflashing the supplied rom seems to fix most things...
One thing to remember if you get errors in cwm is to go to advanced, then reboot recovery. I have gotten errors just like yours and that fixed them. Also a stock heimdall will fix you. Since we don't mess around with bootloaders on the sgt you gonna be hard pressed to brick you tab. Let me know if this helps.
Personally I've given up on cwm until I see some more progress. Heimdall works well and the stock rooted gb is great for me. I've gotten into a pinch quite a few times lately and come through even gotten the phone...!...pc screen freaked me out esp when I wasn't getting odin to pick the tab up. Let me know if you need some help!
