[Q] Can't root after downgrade? - LG Revolution

Hello,
I have downgraded my phone from V6 to V4 however I am still unable to root using OneClick or Rage. I'm assuming it updates more than I thought. Can any provide some information of why this is happening?
Thanks,
C

If you would please read my first post, you would've noticed I said that I downgraded already. I am still unable to root my phone. Can anyone possibly help?

I wrote a procedure at:
www DOT droidforums DOT net/forum/lg-revolution-development/166506-how-get-rooted-revolution-trying-ota-update-2.html#post1714595
(Sorry, to new to the forum to post outside links, but since it isn't SPAM, I'm going to attempt to post this with the link broken up a bit, but readable.)
that worked for me. It's a lot like this one with some other files/options and links added. You will notice at the bottom that I mentioned having to root/unroot over and over to get it to finally root.
Also, one thing I would like to note. is that I was getting to step 5 rooting (via OneClick) and it would fail. So, i managed to get it to get past that part by starting the rooting process BEFORE the phone was fully booted. In other words, I would begin the root process, hitting the button upon phone power up until it would connect and run. If the root process was able to complete before the phone was fully booted, the steps that would fail, got completed and I was rooted.
Hope this extra information helps you, if you are still trying....

Please help. Phone not bricked but cant root

Good Evening everyone. As the title says i need help.
I have had my phone rooted fine in the past but went ahead and did the .893 update wich is where something went screwy. It booted fine after doing the .893 update however after doing a reboot it would not boot. just stayed at the M dual core. I think something went wrong on the update because all my apps were still there when it did boot.
So i tried doing a return to stock using the RSD lite program..that fails right away no matter what i do.
So i went and tried to do the One click fastboot system restore program.
Now when i did that the INFOpreflash validation failure showed up however everything else went through fine. the phone reboots and everything works just not great the signal strenght is very low.
The version that got installed says 5.5.1_84_dbn-55. So i try Pete's root method and it go thru to step 2 but then fails at rebooting for the second time saying it could not get root via local.prop.
If anyone could please help me get back to normal stock it would be much appreciated
Not to be a jerk, but did you READ any thread on here before you did this??
1) Unless you used p3droid's forever root method, you're done. No root.
2) Wrong forum - should be in general
3) RSD won't work.
4) I don't feel sorry for you. You should have researched more. If you would have taken the time to read a few threads, you would have known the answers before you did this.
Enjoy your new build - you'll be with it for awhile.

I did do the forever root and i did read that thread three times b4 i attempted it. I know i am stock. I checked the mount_ext3.sh file and those three lines are no longer there.
And i also have googled this but cannot find an answer hence why i am asking on here..all options i have found to try to reroot have failed

Well, you didn't list that in the OP.
At this point, I don't know. Here is all I got: enter stock recovery and wipe everything. Reboot. Cross your fingers.

Breathe in, breathe out!!!!
I'll breathe when this .893 goes through and I keep root
There is also some very seriously contradictory info in the OP. While castigating him for being a noob did anyone notice that he claims to have flashed the update and then reverted to stock?
This is impossible from our current understanding of how the bootloader works.
More information about the exact steps followed and the exact results at each step would be very helpful to try and figure out what really happened.
OK?
Less heat and more light...
I just got a little frustrated, as every time I open XDA today I see the same/similar post.
Cell - I didn't see in the OP where he said he flashed back. I read where he tried, but I didn't see any mention of 896.
I could not get the .893 to boot after a reboot so i used the One-click fastboot restore and root which brought back to stock but also made it so that i can no longer root. It fails every time on the local.prop process saying adb could not get root access. I did try the stock recovery and still no go. I also tried the adb fix that was posted to remove local.prop but when i tried it says file not found. I have rooted and messed with many phones in the past from Droid 1 and up and this is the first problem that i couldnt solve so as i said any help would be appreciated.
Oh and i have also tried to unroot it..it also fails at adb not being able to gain root access

This isn't going to help your current issue, but how long did you let it sit (after installing 893) before you decided it wouldn't boot? I ask because the guy who was ballsy enough to do it here said the first boot takes about 7 minutes.
EDIT: Nevermind - mine booted in 2 minutes.
it was fully booted and operational. i just did a power off after a half our or so and power back on and it just sat at the M dual core screen...i dont know why it would not boot. I tried pulling the battery. taking out the sim card and all that. the only thing that would get it booted was the One-click fastboot restore and root program so I at least have a working phone but for some reason the signal strength is horrible

Try to do the fastboot again and root it through there. Or, if you did that already (root in fastboot restore) try rooting afterwards.
Might sound dumb, but did you forget to save the chmod changes to the build file? It's a fairly easy mistake and it is the only thing I can think of.

HTC VIVID Super User Problems....

So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

No problem. At this point I think you may just not have root... but first, go ahead and go into bootloader (power off, then power on while holding power and vol down). Does your device say unlocked?
*Just a clarification*
You have to unroot your phone to get rid of it Idk why I put uninstall/reinstall earlier...still out there from last night I guess.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

[Q] I Still Don't Get It...

Hello all,
Okay, I'm a total noob when it comes to the LG Revo. I had my D1 and my DX and I worked it all out and had it setup and rooted just fine, but the LG and this OTA ZV8 update is killing me. So here is my dilemma.
First I don't get the lingo...clockworkmod (CWM) = boot screen/command screen, right...like dos kinda?
Second, flash? What is that is that where I hold power + volume down button to get boot/command/dos screen, when phone is powered off?
Okay now for the good crazy stuff. I had my Revo rooted, got the update, failed. Figured it was because the root was on it, so unrooted to push OTA update, still fail...is still epic failing and is getting on my last nerve, so badly I'm ready to throw my phone...and I've never wanted to that to my babies (phones). Anyway, unrooted still failing update.
Was on another forum where very nice guy gave me stuff to do, tried it however, when did the "Flash" it only wiped my phone and put it back to stock. Had phone plugged into computer via USB...tried to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583023 but after phone wiped didn't know what to do. This is where I am now, with a wiped phone and this has been since 9am pdt.
Hope this all makes since. Can anyone offer any help here? I'd like to get my Revo back up and running and I'd really love to get my apps back on so I can function.
Thanks for understanding and your help is greatly appreciated. Oh, please talk to me like I'm a noob lol...Or I won't get it, I promise I will do my best and try not to sound as dumb as I feel right now.
Thanks &
*Edit* I forgot, I read somewhere that in order to use CWM the phone had to be rooted so I couldn't've flashed to it anyway? Is that wrong information?
The reason why your update fails is because you haven't taken off CWM I'd point you in the right direction but I'm doing this by phone

Ok... here is what you do to get root. Follow that thread and install the v8 tot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337386
After the lgpnst program completes (around 20min) successfully you will be running the latest v8.
Once that is done. Connect your phone set the usb to internet and turn on debugging from the settings | applications | development section and then follow this the instructions in this thread. Unzip the file and run the bat file and follow the directions in the command window.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621625
As for clockwork mod (which a basically is a program that can be run before android loads that allows you to make low level system changes, when you make these changes it is called flashing) I am not running it on my phone but I am sure someone here can tell you how to put it on your phone running v8 rooted.

Typed "." with both just the dot and then again with the quotes and nothing. According to my computer the file is on C:\ but I can't find it in LGNPST there. And it's not in any of my other files that I can see.
I think I did something wrong...But I followed it exact. Becoming very disconcerted with my Revo.
At that point you should explore into the directory where you put the .tot file. Copy the location, go back to the LG tool and paste the directory location. It should allow you to open the file. If you have any problems please respond.

Ok, so moving along on this lol...I've followed all of the instructions. Downloaded, uploaded, installed, copied, pasted, created new folders, dragged and dropped everything it told me to do.
This file "C:/VS910ZV4_04.S4_04.P58008.R5.user.tot.bin" is only showing up in my computer as a shortcut, not as a file. This is after researching and finding it on my computer. Did I do something wrong? Am I downloading an incorrect file? I'm not sure where this particular file came from as, everything else is as described in the "how to" threat.
I think I may have figured it out. Will get back to you. Thanks again!!
*EDIT* Was told to use VS910ZV7_10.S7_10.P58008.R5.tot ... did...it updated...now to see what to do next. That other was was ZV4 and the one I just updated to is ZV7... woot wish me luck...manually pushed zv8 update...no failure this time...it was successful. yay!

To start this off im going to say that i am very new to Android devices, ive owned my Note 3 (The AT&T SM-N900A one) for nearly three weeks now spending time researching on rooting and the methods, etc. Well i just tried to and didnt quite have much success.
I followed this guide and its steps very thoroughly. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
Yet it all ended with it booting up looking like new but nearly every 3 seconds errors appear about processes crashing and trying to stop, for example "Unfortunately, Direct pen input has stopped."
After that failure i went ahead and tried to undo it which probably wasnt a good idea, i followed this tutorial: http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unbrick-att-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900a/.
I ended up at the exact same place, same error over and over. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you.
(I apologize if this had been brought up before i went searching but found nothing that was a solution to my problem.)

Have you performed a factory data reset since the last attempt?

That error is a bugger to get rid of, if you even can. i had this happen and had to return my device to the store. BUT that was before we had a working back to stock MJ5 solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
If you were on MJ5 this will get you back to out of the box stock with or without Root, its up to you.
i have used this twice and has worked smoothly both times, just make sure you download the files needed and follow the steps.

That is the method OP used to get root....
OP, you should have used Kingo... Now you will have to redo that whole process just to restore back to stock. You had a bad flash or a bad download.

That was the method that originally got me into this situation and i just tried it again step by step and i am still having the issue.
One thing that has caught my eye is that this was my devices information before ever trying any rooting process or anything:
MODEL NUMBER: SAMSUNG-SN-N900A
ANDROID VERSION: 4.3 (Jelly Bean)
BASEBAND VERSION: N900AUCUBNB4
KERNEL INFO -
3.4.0-1625098
se.i[email protected] #1
Mon Feb 10 21:13:28 KST 2014
BUILD NUMBER: JSS15J.N900AUCUBNB4
SELINUX STATUS: Enforcing
Is there any possible way to get it back to being a BNB4 device like the information above?

tis the reason i directed him back to that thread. i know they are working on a easier odin flash to return to stock in another thread. dont know why he was using that to get root, but he will now need to use it to get booting back to normal again.
anyway, apologies for not being more clear.
so to sum it all up, redownload the files in case you got a bad one and repeat the process my good sir.

Okay, thank you guys very much but its back to functioning properly! :victory:
Now am i just trying to accomplish a root, but that doesnt seem to be working, after i put the root de la vega files onto the sdcard SuperSU never installs upon restart, why is it not auto-installing like it seems to be expressed as in the tutorial?
EDIT: Okay guys, nevermind about the root, i just used Kingo.

How did you NOT find Kingo right away?
What kind of research did you do for 3 weeks? lol
Well, I'm glad you're good to go now. The devs on this site are exceptional and you are lucky to have them. (me too).

So how did you get it back functioning properly? I am at the same point. I bricked my N3 screwing around with getting Face Unlock to work. So I followed the steps of Restore for MJ5 post, and immediately upon the final boot into setup, the Direct Pen Input error started, and makes the device useless. What fixed yours?
Re-download all the files and retry. Also, verify the size. I think you may have a corrupt file somewhere.
And factory reset after installing a ROM, even if it's the same ROM you had. Any ROM, on any phone, not just this one. Different ROMs store data in different locations, and if a ROM picks up the data from a previous ROM, that may bot be the data it wants, so it causes things to crash.
Ok thanks for the replies. I actually tried a factory reset after seeing the error, but it didn't help at all. And I did run a checksum on the only file that displayed a number, when I originally downloaded the files. But as would be expected, after all simple efforts to fix the issue failed, I started fresh on a whole different PC, downloaded all of the files again, used a different USB cable, and installed everything all over again. And low and behold, the second time was a total success. I can't explain what made the difference, and the checksum result showed an accurate download both times. But this is the nature of the beast isn't it?
Thanks,

[Q] RockMyMoto - need a bit of help

I made a few judgement errors while playing with my phone one day (vzn android 4.4 rooted) and ended up getting stuck in a situation where I had to RSD back to stock. I started over, but now I am getting hung up on attempting to root. I am hoping it is just something totally stupid I am missing so I can get it solved and be on my way.
I am currently sitting on a fresh install of 4.2.2 (post camera). I have re-downloaded RockMyMoto and unzipped it. Completely fresh file. Everything is a clean install. On the first time of running it, I get this message:
System is not write protected...
Executing step 3...

I am not sure what is happening or why it is happening, but I am hoping someone else knows.
I've tried wiping data and cache, tried RSDing a couple of times.
This happens both when I am following the tutorial JCase posted and when I am using the moto toolbox.
Thank you in advance.

So easy a caveman
I used 1.3.4 and was piece of cake.. just follow instructions. I was on 4.4 and clicked root with slap, maybe some peeps here can help you as to where you need to start now since you already began a process
edit, when you get to the download page the real download button is in the red circle... don't know why stillthisguy stillusesthissitetohosthisfile.. you get spammed like crazy but the toolkit works well

I tried the toolbox. I got the same error. Otherwise, yeah, that toolbox is awesome.
When I rooted my phone the first time, that toolbox hadn't yet been updated, so I did it all manually, but Ive rooted a couple of other phones using his tool. He is an awesome guy for releasing that tool, for sure.

This looks like exactly what I need. Thank you very much! Ill give it a go later. In the meantime, it appears your search was far better than mine, so I'll just let this thread die. lol.
Thanks again, guys.
EDIT: worked awesomely. I cant thank you enough, erecker1.
Perfect, glad to hear that got you going! Yes, it's a shame that JCASE has closed his rockmymoto thread so this cannot be posted there, AND xda-developers says I don't have enough 'points' or 'cred' or whatever to post this fix directly to the Developers forum. So here I am, randomly replying to people with this fix I made. Looks like this time, xda-developers got the hero they need, not the hero they want. lol
Anyways, cheers mate, enjoy!
