Not entirely sure this is the right place to ask but the amount of technical knowledge here should be able to answer. From now on I swear I will backup my SMS to Gmail - since that's the only advice from everyone that I can see.
In essence, all my SMS got deleted on my Galaxy S (I wont go into details suffice to say it was a minor misunderstanding / domestic). I wouldn't fuss about it so much but I have about 5 critical SMS for my work that I simply can't replace or do without.
I don't need these restored to the phone itself, in fact I'd prefer them on my desktop. So finally to the question, can anybody advise me if there is any way to recover deleted SMS to my PC (I can root the phone np and know about USB debugging mode etc.)
This comes down to a few questions I cant find an answer to:
1) Where are SMS stored in a Galaxy S because I have failed to find a directory with a data recovery tool that looks likely.
2) With the files I have recovered - apart images that I can open easily, what format will SMS / threads be in (presumably some form of binary or something?) and so what can I use to identify and view them on my PC?
3) If 2 not possible, can I view them on my phone again somehow?
Any help anyway can offer would be greatly appreciated. Please no replies saying I should have backed up - I've kicked myself enough about it.
No advice regarding this? Did I perhaps choose the wrong forum?

Hello to everyone who is reading this.
I have just recently installed Cyanogen's 3.6.8.1 ROM, after rooting it. I much prefer the phone like this, but there are some things in the original I would like to put back, such as my notification ringtone called "Ta Da", (funny as hell for a ringtone, you should give it a listen) but in this new ROM, it's not there. Also, I live in Portugal, and here, phone numbers don't have dashes in the middle. Since installing it (the ROM), I probably got a US version, I have been seeing dashes in the "incoming call" screen and on the call log.
Can anyone explain if there's a way to put the ringtone back in and remove the dashes?
Just a warning, although I understand instructions on how to root, I'm a total noob when it comes to programming issues, so please be patient.
Thanks for your time and I hope this was posted in the right section.
Peace
To answer the question about the phone number format, I know there is an application listed in the thread that you can download and it will change the format of the numbers. I know it will change the format of the numbers in your contacts, but it might have an option for incoming calls, I'm not sure I never used it.

As for your other request, try this thread, I think you will find it helpful seeing as you just have to place the ringtones in an audio folder on your sdcard and there is not additional modding necessary as it appears the phone will recognize the folder on your sdcard

Thanks, that solved all my issues
Hey guys, I have the official ROM from HTC for my Fuze, and I'm scared to flash a new rom cause I'm afraid I'll brick my phone.
That being said, my question is this: With the rom update, I can no longer send texts to more than one person at a time. I'm wondering if there's a program I can install (that doesn't require a register edit cause I'm scared to mess something up there too) that can allow me to send group messages again.
Thanks for any help.
have you tried "SMSer 1.0"? you can get it at 1800pocketpc or google search it. i haven't tried it but it should work and should be free
I use a bit of freeware called Moblmsg. it allows you to create groups and send texts to groups. Think i got it from freeware pocketpc site.
the only downside is that the 'sent' texts dont appear in your 'sent folder (but can be viewed through the Moblmsg 'log' button).
Easy to use. its not perfect but ive not found anything better
oh ... and by the way .... the first flash is scary but after youve done it once you'll be hooked
Ask the OP from this post:

Hi
Is there any software out there that will allow me to print my text messages? Or is there anyway you can save them and then open the file in word and then print them?
I use PIM backup 2.8 and have tried converting/opening the .pib files without much success.
My phone is HTC Kaiser (Vodafone V1615).
I really need a hard copy print out of my text messages so that they look just like they do when viewing on the phone in threaded mode.
Hope this makes sense, I'm sure there must be a way but I cant figure it out.
Any help greatfully received.
When you searched this already discussed topic which methods did you try? You need to mention those sort of things so that other people don't just suggest them to you and waste time.
You can use Jeyo Mobile Companion, but it's not free
hey thanks that was just what i was looking for.
can stop scratching my head now.
cheers a lot!
Hey guys ive not posted in a while, my phone was stolen out of my car
and i was wondering if there is a way to get my Phone numbers and data from
within the Nandroid backups i have on my PC. I am currently trying to get Eclipse and an emulator working to see if i can load nandroid and create an emulated clone of my old G1 then export all my phone numbers or something. Any suggestions would really be appreciated, i am going to the Leo as soon as i get my numbers and stuff.
If you had Google sync enabled contact info can be found at:
https://www.google.com/contacts
Sign in and view/edit your contact list.
For other data I wish you luck.. it sorta ought to work.. report the imei as stollen if you can. So at least no one will be able to use the phone.
Sorry for the loss people who do such things are beyond crappy.

Do a google search for "unyaffs". You run the unyaffs command on your data/system/cache partition images and it'll extract them for you.

I need some help or advice on where to start with converting/ transferring SMSs from pre-smartphone Samsung to Windows, ideally with sender & date information.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Not required anymore, found a way to do it.
