Problem with volume key - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

hey everyone..Recently my volume rocker stopped working only the up key has somehow become non-functional...My phone is under warranty So I was thinking to flash the phone back to stock...but thing is that it would take time for the part to come back so the service center would probably hand my phone back but since the volume up is not working n quick root will not be working what can I do..???
is there a way to directly boot to recovery or anything that would help me quickly revert the phone to stock n back to custom rom??

You can flash a stock .sbf using rdslite for your phone. Look under the devolpment section for how to revert ur phone back to stock.

I know how to revert back to stock but the problem is volume key...coz service center would want me to wait for few days till they get the part coz in order to show them the phone is actually running on stock I can do is return to stock but the problem is then the phone will not be rooted after going to stock..how will I be able to boot to android nani n root the phone while the part is not available.??

You don't need to boot into nandriod nani to root ur phone. Use universal androot like most people do. http://www.4shared.com/file/HvHnis8C/Universal_Androot_v161.htm
But if you want to get into open recovery I suggest using Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3
and using zeppelinrox's Autoboot script which will allow you to boot into OpenRecovery by just holding the x key which can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796679&page=26
and you can find openrecovery 3.3 here http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/downloads/list
Btw I have the same issue with my volume up key being broken on the volume rocker so I use zepps autoboot script to boot into openrecovery to flash custom roms so you shouldn't have any problems. If you need help let me know and I'll be glad to assist you.
Hope this helps.

Ghost touch means that the digitizer is failing, you might want to look into getting a new digitizer off of eBay.

Pretty sure it will, also it could just be some moisture got under on or under ur screen. Make sure ur screen is properly cleaned, and try placing it in a dry area

Recovery - Red exclamation mark and red triangle.

- Did google searches and on here but my problems seem different to others or I don't understand the solution.
I installed the stock orange latest rom not knowing it would rid me of root and all that so I'm trying to get back to recovery so I can nanbackup back to leedroid.
What I have done so far -
1) Downgraded (was an absolute pain, took many attempts seems that rooting twice screws things over)
2) Rooted using visionary+ - comfirmed I am rooted
3) Installed rom manager and reflashed recovery with it.
4) Open recovery and get a Red exclamation mark in a red triangle.
Interwebz tells me this means I have no recovery or am not rooted. I am rooted and I have reinstalled recovery.
What have I got to do to fix this?
Please do help
:EDIT:
had an idea while trying to cold boot into it it is reading the file i have on there to downgrade with and I think that is causing the problems.
:EDIT2:
didn't fix it. Sigh. Really need help guys.

ok my friend this could happen because you are not ablr to root the DHD perhpahs it has the last OTA or used an RUU to actualize to last version, doublecheck the firmware version on the phone, then i will explain a little more (i know its painful already have been victim by the rooting process)
good luck
I am getting so god damn pissed off with this. As I took my battery out for the 100th time I thought to my self mmm this is gonna break if I'm not careful and out pops my volume rocker. Had to bend it to get it back in. Don't evne understand why this is all happening. I did this all fine the first time around.
Firmware is 132.405.6
The rooting isn't the problem, its recovery which is.
Just discovered holding up and pushiung power button is meant to get you into CWM but i get "E:can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Annoyingly it lets me reboot and would ahve saved my volume rocker
:EDIT:
Christ I forgot to plug my phone up to the pc and run s-off. What a bloody moron.
I couldn't hate my self much more right now *strokes his bent volume rocker*
:EDIT2:
S-OFF didn't fix it either :/
Infact I can now no longer boot into recover, it freezes at the HTC logo.
Now that you have S-OFF, go to ROM Manager and reflash the ClockworkMod.

That didn't work, I had to manualy install it in the end. I now have V3.0.0.5 but I can't restore my backup because:
E:Format_volume: no MTD partition "boot"
What does this mean and how do I fix it? I need to get that backup back! It has everything :O
That backup was made with a V3 CWM. But I hear I need V2 to use with froyo? GAHHHHHHHHH.
Got to downgrade CWm now I guess. EURGH!
Rom manager wouldn't downgrade but I tryed upgrading to 3.0.0.6 in a hopeful attempt and appears to be working XD.
Then after alllll this I have to find out how to fix my echoing as it works on the stock rom so must be something i need to do to leedroid. I'm thinking radio change?
so i assume you finally downgraded to a "rooteable" android version... if still need help, send a PM so i will try to help u!
good luck!!

Take a deep breath. Breath IN and out
use the nexus root kit in the dev forum to push the original firmware back to your device.. The awesome Developer has included all instructions on his thread.. Then learn a bit more about ANDROID. PLEASE ..
GOOD LUCK.. if this were not a nexus device you could have just thrown 250.oo away .. :highfive::good:
also there is a reset somehow. could be hold both vol up vol down and then push and hold power.. might take you into nv flash or stock recovery . not read much on this device as far as that. But will when its in my hand.

I do know android, and I somehow got stuck at the Google screen. Tried to boot into recovery from ROM manager and now I just freeze at the Google screen. Cant get into recovery, only fast boot. Not at my computer right now but can I flash recovery from the fastboot menu? I tried resetting by using all three buttons but it just sticks at the Google screen

im not sure holding those buttons in that config is correct was just a guess. You should yes be able to push new recovery with fast boot. as this is how its useally done.. AS I Posted in the above i looked at the root tool kit . it looks as thou it has a auto push to restore the device . I ASSUMED it was nv flash or fast boot. Since i do not have the device i cant say for sure.
there is also some kind of small hole on the left side . This could also be a reset. again TRY AT YOUR OWN Risk. im only guessing on experience with other android devices .
I should stop replying to i need help threads until i know more of this device as its only guessing .
Good luck . let us know what you learn from getting you back to normal boot. will help avoid this stuff in future.

I have been able to use that combo for a hard reset on the device last night, but it doesn't seem to help with the loop I'm stuck in. I know that there is cwm recovery on here since I did a nandroid after I rooted. I did see the hole on the side but I had assumed it was a mic hole. Kinda afraid to stick anything in there I just got back to my parents from my sisters graduation party so I may try to give reflashing recovery a shot before I leave here. I'll post results when I hopefully have progress

OOOPS On the hole thing. your prob right .
As far as the combo doing hard reset. if its not fixing the boot looP its a soft reset . hard reset would restore your device settings .

There are actually two holes on the device; one on the top near the left corner, and another on the left side above the 4 pin dock connectors. Pretty sure these are dual mics for noise canceling, for the Google Now. I may be wrong, but still don't recommend sticking a paperclip in there.
Ok. On the WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit that I used last night to unlock and root there is an option to unroot and relock bootloader. This is normally done over adb, which I did not have access to, but if you select the "My device won't boot" option, it will do it over fast boot. Now that my device actually booted up correctly, I am unlocking and re-rooting. All is good, despite now having to set everything up all over again.
On a side note, I highly recommend WugFresh's Root Toolkit. I used it for my Galaxy Nexus before when it was just a command line script that would do all of the work for you, now it is built with a complete GUI that makes things even easier.

[Q] Broken Power button : Is it possible to install custom ROM ?

Hi,
I've recently rooted my phone (Desire Z) and one of my friend asked me if I could rooted his Nexus One so that he could install ICS and have the option to wake the device from the trackball.
The reason for this is that's his power button isn't working anymore (broken board). That also means I can't use the button to confirm selection in boot menus. He told me I can however power on the device by removing the battery, plugging the AC and putting the battery back in.
As it's not my phone, I'd prefer not to wipe all his data or at least be able to fully backup everything. My really quick search in has indicated that most methods wipe the phone. Is there a way to get something like temp root on the device so I'd copy the apk and the /user/ folder manually (or use a backup app like Titanium). I was also thinking about installing 4ext as recovery.
So, is this at all possible ? I've seen something called SuperOneClick, but do I have to hit power button at some point ? I don't have the exact version with me right now, I've forgot to look at it carefully. I know it's on Gingerbread, but can't tell about the exact version (possibly latest OTA).
I didn't have much time to look at all the different ROMs. He asked for ICS, but are the JB builds stable ? Paranandroid looked good at first glance. Any recommendations ?
Thanks a lot!

To flash custom ROMs, the phone's bootloader needs to be unlocked. If it has not and the power button is broken, your friend is out of luck.
Well, if you can boot normally into Android, you can install Blackrose. Then you can navigate through the bootloader with volume buttons and the trackball (which has the function of the power button) and unlock your bootloader through fastboot.
Or am I very wrong here?
tommert is right. But, if you install blackrose, you don't need to unlock the bootloader, you already gain s-off. So you can flash a custom recovery and install ics or jb

No need to open a new thread each day with the same problem.
In your other thread from yesterday you wrote that odin stopped at factoryfs.img.
And as a member wrote you bricked your device.
So two options:
a) replace motherboard for complete repair
b) use the workaround with repartition (and excluding damaged sectors) - use the search here for the detailed explanations how to do this.
If you repartition, be warned you'll lose up to 3gb of space and it's likely you won't be able to run stock roms anymore, only cm based or aokp as they're smaller.

Didnt know they would change under certain conditions. Thought they would stay the same. Funny it workes that way. Never read it before. Pretty easy mistake to make on my behalve, I read his combos and really thought he was doing it wrong. Sorry, I then had it wrong. My bad.

Won't boot into recovery

Hello. I have unlocked bootloader successfully (it says "unlocked" at screen and also "tampered"). I have all the fastboot/adb software on my windows pc and can communicate with the phone. I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...
