Custom roms and Qi wirelese charging - LG Revolution

Hi all,
I have recently rom'd up with the revolt rom 1.3 and love it. I shortly after doing this purchased the wireless charging pad and cover from verizon. My problem is that when i use the pad it tells me my phone is charging, but when i come back an hour later the battery status is the same as when i put it on. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, perhaps some qi charging files on the phone were removed or something on custom roms? It is possible i got a bad pad, but just wanted to check with the community first before i exchange it. I do place it correctly on the pad and make sure its plugged in first . Thanks

Have the same problem... if you watch it, few mintues in to the charging, it would say that charging has stopped because it was removed from the pad even though it is still sitting there. Tried it with 2 backs and 2 different pads, same thing. The unroot one I have has no problem...the root one has the problem after the OTA from vzn. Haven't a chance to troubleshoot.

Thanks for the reply, thats what i was afraid of. Do you know if a back up to rooted stock works? I wouldnt be surprised if verizon made it so that some how made it so that the phone detects root and disables qi charging, but still kind of sucks though...

[Q] Question about charging up my phone with different chargers.

I have a powermat in my room that i use for charging my phone up when I go to bed at night. But it seems that I can only charge my phone up by having the phone on. When I turn it off and plug my phone in, it just turns the phone back on. Although this doesnt happen when I plug in my phone into the Samsung usb cable that came with my phone, when its plugged into my computer.
Can anybody explain to me why this is happening? Just a curious thought I had.
I have experienced this with my powermat as well. One thing I noticed is that it wouldn't do it on my wifes phone running continuum 4. Only on mine which was running gingerbread roms. Didn't matter which rom either. Once I upgraded her phone to gingerbread hers starting doing it.
Could this be a gingerbread kernel thing? It does it with every different GB kernel I've used also.
A new day and perhaps a definitive answer to this. Would anybody else happen to know a solution to this? Or why it would be causing this issue?
I haven't noticed mine turning on beyond the charging notification. I've used the stock 2.1 and 2.2 and also the FireFly 3.0 Rom. I did notice a while back on some forums on Android Central that people who were using chargers other than the stock chargers were experiencing different things. If I remember correctly it has something to do with the exact voltages the charger supplies to the phone versus a USB from a computer and so on. Maybe it was the amps. Anyway these minute differences in the voltage tells the phone how to respond to being plugged in. I've got a couple of wall chargers from some long gone Verizon phone (RAZR I think) and my Captivate thinks it's connected to a PC and starts USB Debugging. (I am currently working on some Apps so I have left that option on for now.) The phone charges just fine and the chargers only have current through the 5V and ground pins so it shouldn't be able to do anything to my phone anyway.
Perhaps there is a setting in the ROMs that you are using that tells the phone to be turned on when connected to a PC and your phone is reading your charger as a PC. Just a thought. There might be a setting or something in your USB settings that would let you toggle that or it might just be in the ROM. I hope that gives you a possible line to try and start looking for your answer. Sorry I don't know more about it.

Headset icon when charging

Hey guys, my phone's started to go all flaky on me recently. Not sure if its related to the latest updates. But i've tried stock, cooked roms, even a full wipe but nothing helps. Everytime I charge my phone, after a few minutes, the headphone icon appears and this phone thinks theres a headset connected. It goes away after a few minutes after i plug it. Anyone facing this too? Anyone know of workaround to disable the headphone detection? its annoying as i can't hear anything from the phone if its charging.
do you use the original charging kit? or a docking station, sth. like that?
Actually, cos I noticed the old charging kit caused my phone to get really hot and thought it was one of the reasons the phone shutdown while charging, I figured it was defective and junked it. Have been using my N1 charger to charge it for months with no problems. I wouldn't mind getting an original charger if I knew it will fix it..but since the N1 charger was working fine before...
Ok solved. It was lg's updated stock froyo roms fault. Just flashed the leaked 20e gb rom and i no longer see the headset while charging.
Edit: Nope..it's back. think i will have to get it serviced

[Q] Battery with question mark, unable to charge/boot/SBF

Hey all,
I got my Droid 4 a month ago and rooted it. It ran out of power while I was outside. When I tried charging it, a battery icon with a question mark comes up. I can't boot to Safestrap, and when I go to Fastboot, it says "Battery Low -- Cannot Program".
The phone doesn't turn on unless I plug it into the wall charger. If I plug it into the USB port on my laptop, the green LED comes on, but it won't turn on. I can boot to Android recovery, and I tried formatting /data and /cache, but that didn't help.
Funny thing: I can keep the phone in Android recovery, leave it plugged in, and it charges up enough to stay on for a while when I unplug it.
Now, I know about the Macgyver trick, and I'd like to give that a shot. iFixit has a fantastic teardown of the Droid 4, but unfortunately, removing the battery would very clearly void my warranty (although I guess having Safestrap voids that already), and I'm worried about doing permanent damage to my device. Are there any solutions besides "beg Verizon for a new phone"? Has anyone tried Macgyvering a Droid 4?
Curious, if you do BP Tools, does it drop you into Safestrap? I know mine does, and then maybe you can change some settings. Also, you could try to make a "Factory Cable". I know I made mine from my old OG Droid dock as it had the 5 wire jumper, and just jumped the 2 wires and it allowed me to flash w/o a charged battery.
I would ensure that the charger is putting out 5.1v and 850mA as my d4 won't charge or power on after the battery dies unless its with the factory charger or one that meets these specs

Have you tried leaving it plugged in for an extended period of time, say overnight, and see if it'll boot up?

Just tried BP Tools. It lets me drop into Safestrap, but Safestrap won't load due to the battery issue.
Hope you don't mind me asking, but what's a factory cable? Is it just a USB cable with the B end cut off, and the black and red wires stripped? My issue with jumping the device/battery is that I'm unable (or supposed to be unable) to remove the battery, so any solution along those lines would have to allow me to keep the battery in place. Otherwise, my warranty is voided.
I know root voids it, but I'd have a better chance of sneaking that by than an obviously-moved battery.

I'm using the charger that came with the phone. It says 5.1V/850mA on the side.

Tried it last night. Left it in recovery for a good 8 hours or so. No dice.
Did you try opening it, then removing the battery? If you pull up too hard with out a removal tool, the glue is strong enough to allow the battery to bend and break internally, causing this error. Might check if another battery works, there are some available online if you search.

Isn't the reason the battery is non-removable because the type of battery chemistry used can explode of that type of damage occurs? Or do they just hate us?
Has anybody ever been turned down for warranty work that is hardware related, even if they are rooted, etc? I've never heard of it happening...
If OP get a dud battery, s/he should just get it replaced by Moto. They shouldn't have to try to replace it themselves.
Try the instructions from this thread and let us know if it works...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23678683&postcount=1
The OP said they tried the BP Tools method but it is disabled due to Safe strap using that as the trigger for its bootstrapped recovery.
Using a factory cable would allow you to boot the phone and either flash the stock firmware or uninstall Safe strap and let you charge the phone while in BP Tools mode.
That is the only safe a certain way to recover the device. Hot wiring the battery with a USB cable cannot be considered safe, but will work if you want to fix it yourself without a factory cable.
Using a factory cable to flash the full XML.zip with RSD Lite is the first thing a technician would do to restore it if it was returned under warranty anyway, after checking for physical damage of course.
I've got a few factory cables laying around and would be more than happy to send you one, let me know. Just cover the postage and you'll be flashing in no time.
So to update: I have an insurance policy with Global Warranty Group, and I filed a claim with them, which got me a new device (instead of a refurb). So, I suppose the issue is moot.

The same thing is happening to me and I have Droid X, any help?
Will BP work after removing safestrap from the advanced menu? If so I think you could use that link to charge from BP.

usb cable splice works
Just chiming in here to confirm a spliced usb cable will charge an xt894 battery. my situation was pretty much an xt894 with a wiped system (therefore, unable to charge) and not enough battery to fastboot. if I plugged it into a charger or a 5v usb slot from my computer just a green led would show on the front, but no charge. I removed my battery, cut a usb cable in half, and hooked up the wires to the coresponding terminals on the battery (which are clearly marked) and it charged up just fine and I was able to fastboot.
Not the prettiest solution, but it really helped me out when I absolutely needed to charge in order to fastboot, although it will void your warranty if that's important to you.
I currently have a problem where the question mark shows in the battery while charging and I'm unable to boot into OS or safestrap. I'm not at home right now, but I have an extra battery that I'll pop in later to see if that changes anything, or has enough juice to fastboot.
This morning my wife woke up to no battery charge, because I stole her charger in the night. But she has the question mark even though the phone was working fine last night! I wonder, considering I left the USB cord plugged in on the D4 end when I took the charger (to use my cord) could I have screwed something up? She's going to leave it in the OEM charger all day at work, but the quesiton mark worries me.
My question is, if I do the cut cord trick to manually charge the battery at the terminals, does that help recover it so that it can be charged via regular means? Or is it just a way to get the data off the phone? Phone is stock 4.1 with root.

note 5 - USB not recognised and it never fast charge

Hello I have a note 5 - SM-N920C on stock M 6.0.1
about two months the phone stop fast charging and doesn't get recognised by the pc
the thing I tried :-
* try different USB cables ( 2 came with the phone - 2 new once )
* factory rest ( twice with wpie chashe )
* change the charger
I wanted to test other stock Roms but I can't get it recognised by odin .
and I have 2 note 5 all the cables work fine on the other one .

I seem to have same issue here.
I have the Note 5 from tmo(SM-N920T)
Baseband - N920TUVU2DPD1
Stock - 6.0.1
You have the exact same issues i've had. I also had issues where when i would have the phone plugged in ( to the wall adapter ) and rebooted it, it would think its a media device like a computer where it could share files and stuff... Also take like 5 hours to charge from 20%
Here I'll make this fix SUPER EASY..
1. Download Package Disabler PRO - I dont think it has to be the pro version but i bought it a long time ago
2. Search for 'power'
3. Disable 'com.sec.app.TransmitPowerService''
4. Reboot
I would add screenshots but as i dont have 10 posts im unable to post screenshots or links to the app in the playstore.
The wife's phone started this Saturday after updating. Also, hers beeps and has the charging blue wave as if she plugged the cable in. While actually charging, it disconnects and starts charging constantly.
The beep and blue wave is normal. The charging and no charging sounds like a faulty cord that's not making good connection
The beep and blue wave happens when she is not plugged in. Phone just sitting there not being charged or touched. We thought at first it was a bad cable, but we've tried several. Even does it on the wireless pad. Therefore I'm not sure it's the port. I think it's software related.
Have you tried safe mode?
Just a warning safe mode reset my wall paper and logged me out of some apps.

Did try safe mode and a factory reset. Sprint store I brought it to tried several cables and another factory reset with no luck so they ordered her a replacement. They weren't too interested in figuring it out. In fact, 3 other people came in with various issues and were just given the number to make an insurance claim without even looking at the phone.
I disabled that apk abd it detects all my fast chargers as fast ones. Where it didn't. If i re-enable it it stops workin
might be hardware issue, Try Wireless charger and see if it charges fast. if it charges good with wireless charger then you have to change you CHARGING PORT.

Had the same exact issue on a refurbished unit . Old note didn't do it, but had to exchange it due to adhesive glue coming up in upper left corner. I did multiple resets and finally went with the option of fresh install as not to import back my apps. It hasn't replicated our issue in the last few hours. I am hoping that takes care of it.
Did you by chance get a random gear VR screen prompting you to download the app and what not? I did and read others had the same issue and only way to get this to stop is to download it and then create an account, reboot and viola it solved it.
Stuff is crazy, love the phone but have had more issues with it over even El cheapo phones....

I got similar problem... now after 10 days I just can not go with this.
my youtube problem.
https://youtu.be/payi2IuJhdI
My NOTE 5 is thinking that is charging all the time. It drives me crazy.
With the USB cable it charges 1 time out of 20 and on a random day. I had to charge it via wireless. It wakes up all the time and can not use UBS.
Strange part is, that I can use my USB micro stick with my root and custom ROM. But that is it. No ODIN, no tranfer files.......
Did everything except change the USB port (it is on it's way). ( that will be my last resort)
ANY THOUGHTS.
I have a feeling that water damage was somewhere in there. (been driving with my bike on a rainy day and it looks like it got a little wet in my upper front pocket.
mine recognises fast charge very randomly. before it happened rarely but now it never shows fast charging with the original cable. the only thing that helped me was ordering a third party cable and using the original ac plug. let me know if that helps to any of you guys!
Ugh. N920a mine started this in March after having it maybe 3months. I called att and told them to send me a new one the other day. Unit arrived this morning. My opinion is its a bad USB port. This imho is the weakest link in Samsung devices-- this POS antiquated USB crap.
The thing would cycle CHARGING -- DISCONNECT, over and over. Wiggling the cord would affect the condition. Fast charge happened 1 out of 20 attempts.
I'll let you know how long the new unit lasts-- my most recent purchase is a wireless charger because, as stated this ***t is bound to happen again.
Unbelievable. My phone was totally fu**d. Than I sad I will fix it my self, so I bought the USB board and waited to get it. In the mean time I used it as normally, just wireless charging and that's it.
But after two weeks, the phone was getting a little better, not fixed, but due to custom ROM and a few tweaks, it did not turn on itself all the time.
But after I played quite a few games, (hitman) the phone did heat up all the time, and that my friends FIXed my problem. NOW the phone works as before the moister get to it.
I have my NOTE 5 back, yee.
SO when you have moister problem - play games.
Hey guys,
I had this exact problem - no more fast charging, no USB OTG or recognized by computer after
upgrade to Marshmallow. Tried multiple cords, different computers (Mac, and Windows), etc.
I sent it in for repair to Samsung and they 'fixed' it and are in the process of shipping it back
I put 'fix' in quotes because the repair tracking says it was solved, but I haven't received it back yet to
test. It should be coming in tomorrow.
Quick charge and USB issues have been fixed! IF you're still under warranty, I'd highly recommend sending it in.

Wireless Charging Stopped Working

Wireless charging on my bundled Wireless Charging Convertible pad stopped working yesterday and I haven't been able to get it to function again. Starting yesterday morning, the charger pad wouldn't recognize the phone at all, case off. After playing around for a while, including clearing the cache from Recovery, I can get the charger to recognize the phone, the phone now says Fast Charging, but the phone continues to drain over time vs charging. Some users in the past have gotten a Charging Paused message, by I don't get that message unless I remove the phone from the charging pad.
I've tried two Samsung Fast Charging AC adapters, the USB cable that came with the charging pad, and an Aukey cable, same results.
Has anybody else experienced any issues like this with their Note 8 or convertible charging pad?
Edit: MST also doesn't work, I'd guess it's related.

Only way to diagnose this would be by trying to charge the phone with another wireless charging pad.
Does your phone charge normally through the provided type-C cable and power adapter?
Found a non-convertible style wireless charger a co-worker had, which charges his S7, but doesn't charge mine Note8. Could it be the phone itself?

I would not rule that out. I would take your charger and phone to a local best buy and test against a display, if your charger charges other phones, then it's your note. Or try your carriers local corporate store, they probably would help as well.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs
Well I can verify that the phone is the problem. Note 8 won't charge on any wireless charging pad, and Samsung Pay's MST also stopped working at the same time. Going to contact Samsung and see what can be done, hope I don't have to set up a new phone yet again.
This happens to me alot. I have 2 wireless pads, 1 verizon (from my note 7) and the Samsung Fast Charge.. It just stops working randomly.. Reboot the phone, then starts working fine again.
I still use my Nokia wireless pad....I found it charged the time as the Samsung fast wireless charger.
Probably not much help but are you on the latest firmware? When I updated mine it said the new changes were for the camera & wireless charging but of course no other details.
I haven't had a problem with mine though even before the update. I don't have the bundled charging pad though, I'm using the older Samsung fast charge pad.
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/09/1...-firmware-update-improves-camera-performance/
Good luck. Same problem with my s8+, samsung says its not the phone. But it is. Every problem with a warranty repair is like pulling teeth with samsung. I wish LG would up thier phone game just a little, and I would never buy another samsung again.

is this after the 9/25 update? Mine stopped charging after that update on both Samsung fast wireless chargers I have.
I have a Note 5 that will not charge on either a normal wireless Samsung charger or a fast charger Samsung pad IF the protective case is on it. This started just this week. I can remove the protective case and then it will charge.
I don't recall getting an update on or after 9/25. N950USQU1AQI5. I did get an update that improved camera performance, but it was a week or two ago. Just performed a factory reset, no luck on a fresh install. I can also confirm MST on Samsung Pay still doesn't work after factory default, they have to be related. Frustrated I'm going to have to deal with warranty. After two Note 7's, going through another Note 8 is beyond frustrating. QA @ Samsung could really use some work.
So Samsung has agreed to repair/replace the phone, but I'll be without the phone for 3 weeks. Since I just switched to Verizon, the only old cell phone I have won't work. Since I bought from Samsung.com directly, Verizon won't help. Samsung.com refuses to provide a loaner/temp phone or to cross-ship a new one. Their manufacturing defect means I have to bear the burden of their problems. I wouldn't care too much about wireless charging, but MST is also affected, and I love MST.
Lesson learned - Never purchase a phone directly from Samsung.com, even if that means getting a discount or promotion.
I just sent my Note 8 in for the Same thing. After 4 weeks of ownership it stopped charging wirelessly.
The Samsung Rep I spoke to seemed to think it was related to the NFC, something about NFC being involved in the wireless charging some how. So MST must be the reason.
I sent my Axon 7 for warranty repair the same day. Luckily I still have my LG V20 and Nexus 6P (with is horridly degraded battery), so I have backup phones.
I'm on firmware AQI5 and wireless charging has stopped working completely. I've tried Samsung and third party chargers, all of which worked last week and still work with other phones. So I'm thinking it's a firmware bug...

Describes my problem almost perfectly. Now on my third VZW note 8. First one charged fast wireless for exactly a month. Second one, worked for eight days. Now the third, 7 days.
All four of my offical Samsung wireless chargers quit recognizing at the same time. FYI; two charge pads and two charge stands all fast wireless and purchased thru out my time with S7 Edge (went thru 2 rounds note 7). To add to that the new promo convertible quit at the same time as well.
Pretty darn sure it's in the phones. The latest phone charged wirelessly to 100%, then nine hours of driving later, no go. Pulled my UAG Monarch off, still nothing. Tried the other wireless chargers, nothing. No new apps or settings changed during my drive. Thoroughly confused.
All three of phones were put thru the ringer with VZW tech support: check this, check that, safe mode and the end all factory data reset, still no go every time. I contacted Samsung directly once, what a waste of time. Their only answer was send it in for evaluation and possible repair or replacement, you should have your phone back in a couple weeks. Second go around with Samsung, I was transferred by VZW. Their answer that time was; send the phone and the charger. Had to reply, which charger, all of them? Samsung, then told me all of my older chargers aren't compatible with the note 8 and must have damaged it. That style of charger is still readily available and advertised as note 8 compatible.
I've never used NFC or MST, so I can't comment on that.
All three phones fast charge on the wire.
Can anyone verify compatibility or lack there of with all these fast wireless chargers I own?
Willing to try anything at this point. I would dump the 8, if I didn't use the pen so much. Been using note phone since the 2.

According to the rep I spoke to it was to do with NFC, as it is somehow involved with the wireless charging process.
Sound a bit strange, but others are saying that wireless or MST payments are both affected. So I guess wireless payments and wireless charging are somehow connected.

I don't think it is. I got them to do a warranty replacement, and my new phone worked fine. But, as soon as I wiped my old phone in preparation for returning it, it started working as well. Then, a couple of days later, my new phone stopped wireless charging.
Right now, I am just hoping that the Oreo update fixes it.
