getting hangs while overclocked? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried overclocking my phone with galaxian and semaphore kernels. I overclocked my phome to 1.2ghz and tried other frequency not lower than than 1ghz but I keep on getting hangs when waking up the phone to unlock and sometimes while using the phone. how do I fix thix problem? I'm on darkys rom 10.2 extreme edition.

Rom: Darkys Rom 10.2

Galaxian is on 1.2 ghz on default only then how did you overclocked it ! Try semaphore kernel its better, believe me i have used galaxian for 2 weeks on jetpack rom and got bit of lags and quadrant score near 2600 only while on semaphore I get 3000 on 1.2ghz after overclocking using tegrak overclock app.

i used both tegrak and set CPU apps to overclock it. when i used the tegrak, i clicked on the load module then clicked on CPU max frequency, chose the 1.2ghz, then says watching stability the the watcher stopped working or the countdown stops at 298. chose another frequency it did the same. i tried it until the countdown works, and it works but i get hangs sometimes. would you be good enough to give me all info to overclock it manually in the optimize menu in the tegrak app?? thanks

anyone have fix for this?

yes, clean your phone and install Tornado.

I was using tegrak. But my suggestion is dont use oc. Bcs OC is always risk and we are not getting any performance increase except the benchmark score.

First try wiping cache/dalvik cache and use Ultimate Kernel Cleaning Script - 2.0 via CWM. If that doesnt improve the lags better do a full install via odin. Its better than a factory reset co's u will lose all ue data any way. Pls do back up all of ur apps and personal data. Try using mybackup root or titanium backup from market.

i think you should overvoltage on 1200mhz
you can use tegark overclock ultimate or voltage control ultimate

[Q] phone just stuck when going over 1.2GHz with Super Optimized Kernel 4_7_0 kernel

Sorry if i post in the wrong place, but i can't post under the development thread because i do not have enough posts. I installed the Super Optimized Kernel 4_7_0 STABLE [01-26] kernel and I have Darky's V9 ROM. I have tried to overclock the phone over 1.2GHz and it freeze everytime. I tried it with Voltage control and with SETcpu an still the same. I tried with Darky's V8 lagfix on and lagfix off, and with Darky's V9. But it freezes every time. Do I something wrong or is it my phone? Sorry for my english .

It's probably your phone. Not every CPU can be overclocked. If your phone is freezing, then the CPU does not like being overclocked.
Not all CPUs are created equal. Some will overclock well, some won't.
Ian
that's what i think too. And the other thing with this kernel is that i get only about 1318 qudrant score when the phone is running on 1GHz, and only 1490 on 1.2GHz. And with the Voodoo kernel in Darky's rom i get 1490 point on 1GHz.

overclocking question

I have the overcome ROM flashed on my tab and i was wondering if it is already overclocked due to the ext4 kernel or do i need a program to set the overclock speed like setcpu?
which kernal did you install? all of the OC voodoo kernals will say "OC" at the end of them.. its usually a good idea to get setcpu to control your processor anyways.
I have the ext4 kernel installed, I do have setcpu installed too.
The kernal will oc it by itself but using setcpu will allow you to customize your frequency.

[Q] is there a rom that can be stable overclock on the 806 frequency?

I use gingerdx v12 and can sometimes restart itself (unstable)
Look the best of your processor oc.
If you get reboot at 806, it mean your device can't oc to 806
If you bestest overclock, i mean like your best oc is 768, that mean you only can oc from 0 Mhz (??) -- > 768 Mhz
Not connect with your rom!
Hit thanks if i helped you!
Edit: Also wrong thread section, it must at Q&A

Post questions in q&a section.
Each phone has different maximum overclock frequency. The rom doesn't matter, the phone does.
processor might be working harder,i'm affraid overclocking my phone in 800mhz..
i think oc in 710 should be nice and stable but batery drains more faster

Although there might be a relationship between ROM and Overclock Stability, repeated test on various ROMS still gets me the same OC max of 748Mhz.
Please note that overclockability of the CPU depends on the CPU. Not all CPU's of the same make are equal. the design of our X8 called for a 600Mhz CPU clock, so it goes that it will be and always be stable at 600 Mhz. However go more than that and you have no guarantee at which Max Clock you will get. If you could go to 800 without FC and/or reboots then consider yourself very lucky.
for me.. i can't go far.. im using GingerCruzt.. and it has an option on overclocking.. once i checked the overclocked my phone reboots always..
I can overclock with the Gingercruzt v7.3 oc module to 806Mhz, and it's not restart. Doxianh module i can max 768Mhz
Sorry for my english :S

I can confirm OC @806Mhz with GC OC module (instead of DX's), running on MiniCM7 2.0.7...stable.
hmm when i using gingerDX v11, i tried overclock to 806Mhz and it stable for a while, but in 5 minutes i think, my device get reboot...
all roms can stable at 787Mhz in my device.. no reboot no force close... just stable and smooth, but battery drain

[Q] My X8 keep rebooting after OC help

Hi need help i always cannot oc my x8. I am using alfs kernel + GDX and it'll freeze and reboot if i set to 748mhz or higher.
Today i tried to use Gingercruzt + nAa kernel I also cannot oc too. Anyone experience this problem??? Help
Phone reboots after OC
Hello am currently using MiniCm7 2.1.6 + nAa kernel 08b using governor interactive min 122Mhz and Max 729Mhz and enabled the set on boot and runs very smooth it only takes 44 secs to fully boot with many apps intalled that are required to start on boot as far as i`ve been using it i had no issues, with preloaded settings min 122Mhz and Max 600Mhz i got a score of 1764 running nice and neet no concerns
Thanks to the great effort of nobodyAtall and DaRk dOg
say thanks if this helped you...

Every phone is different, If a x8 is stable at 748 mhz it is not necessary that other one should..
Mine also not stable at 748 mhz so if your phone is not stable try lower frequency..
Thanks a lot for the info My X8 still reboots if i set to 748Mhz so i only can use 729Mhz

thx for your post.
I will try it and if its working without any problems it comes in the next version
Sounds interresting what GeeckoDev found out. Looks like the new freque. also goot for non playing Note 1 users...
57hz - 59hz is completely safe. If you go beyond that, bootanimation will start to derp (turn off/on the screen once it's fully booted and you're good to go). Also you will have no access to the recovery. I only experienced that on AOSP, though. On Touchwiz I could go to 62hz without a problem. 64hz is fine with the workaround above.
It improves smoothness and lowers latency by quite a good margin (~17ms at 57hz, ~16ms at 60hz, ~15ms at 64hz).
Also, good luck with your kernel!
Had to go back to forest 1.90. On Your kernel cannot use gallery

Hello Bauner
First of all thank u very much for a great kernel. I have tested the non OC and OC 1.5. Everything runs smoothly except for stock video player that got busted with the OC'ed vers just like forest's. I have yet to test battery as I have just completed one battery cycle. Will update if there's anything pops.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Free mobile app
I also test it for 2 days on DU Rom and it is working smooth. I'm using the non OC version but it seems the kernel loves to stick on 1.1 and 1.4 speed which is why the battery drains much faster.
I also noticed that when Wifi is on and while screen off, it seems to drain also much faster, while on stock it consumes about 150-170mah on this kernel it consumes 230-250mah.
What I'm happy about this kernel though is that it seems to resolve my issue with Dynamic Colors on DU as I had no single reboots while using it. On stock kernel I had reboots when using Dynamic Colors.
Is there a way that instead of always using 1100 speed, it will use a lower frequency like 800 or 900?
Many thanks for the kernel!
Thanks bauner for the great kernel.my note now more energized and smooth after flash with oc1.5ghz tw....antutuscore got 17k..also problem on whatsapp memory leak seems resolved now

did you try to close all running apps and then check again?
if tehere are running apps that makes i/o can make this kernel running on higer frequencies because my modifications on ondemand.
you could try to use an tool like no-frills cpu control and try another cpu governor like pegasusq or conservative.
with this tool you also can see how long your cpu was running on every frequency

Thanks! Will test maybe tom and change my governor to pegasusq. Hopefully when on normal use it will use a lower frequency instead of 1100. I'm using BetterBatteryStats to see how long each frequency runs and the majority is 1400, 1100 and 100.
About the higher consume of battery, yes there is one app that was running and it was FB messenger though it was also running when I compared it to the stock kernel from DU.
I'll give feedback again once I'm done with testing.
with my rom+kernel it doesn't stay at high frequencies.
the attached screenshot was made a few minutes after boot complete
It says it couldn't mount storage/sdcard0 when trying to mount in recovery.
(KitKat version)
Hi bauner,
Mine also stay highest 1.1ghz..why never reach 1.5ghz..I'm ondemand/row..

It's an app. Nothing to do only follow the guides in the app. Sometimes you need the correct kernel for resetting... try it out.
