Hi there,
I'm thinking about getting me a Galaxy s9000 and wanted to ask, how long you phone usally lasts? I'm talking about the AMOLED edition.
Thanks!

just search first

ROM: CM7 Nightly #104
KERNEL: Glitch V12 Beta 2

Well, Google says "something between 8h and 740h". Are you getting 740h out of your phone?
I asked here, where people know their phones and how to get the most out of it. And instead of stupid ranting you could have just stated the battery life you get.

It's not a fair question because it depends on your usage, can be between 6 to 30+ hours.
If you get any smartphone then prepare yourself to have a charger nearby anyway.

I like the battery life, but I also grabbed the Samsung Armani 1650Mah battery which is the same physical size as the original and I really get good battery life now!...

Obviously, which is why a (smart) person would have posted like I did.
Unfortunately, everyone hates on people asking about battery, instead of helping. The truth is: once you figure out what's eating your battery, it's easy to set it up to last as long as you need it. Using one of the most power-hungry ROMs (CM7), I achieve 12-14 hours easily--and that's with hours of internet browsing--which is plenty to get me through the day.
If I only send a few texts every hour, and a couple calls in a day (ie., at work), my phone will last for 2-3 days easily. And, again, this is on a ROM largely regarded for having the worst battery life.

With normal usage its the best phone with the best Battery i ever had luv my i9000

Should i get this phone? Advice pls!

Hi all. Im due an upgrade i summer. Im looking At this phone or the desire s. But is this phone buggy? Is the dua core really something special? Reviews on the 2x arent too good atm, the phone has many negative points abt it! It was like that with my tg01. I got it because it was the worlds first 1ghz phone. (just like this is the worlds first dual core) my tg01 has soo mamy bugs with it and it was rushed out. Is the 2x like this? I hear it is very buggy. I dont want to get another phone like my tg01 where i rely on custom roms for the phone to be usable.
So long story short, is this phone good? Is dual core something special? Or is speed more or less the same as single cores? Some ppl say that dual core is not needed with android.. Is this true?
Sorry for the quick messy typing (not on pc) and looking for some quick answers!
Cheers

bump :')
anyone?
Its GPU is a bit ahead of the Samsung's... The CPU is far ahead. In Smartbench 2011 I score 4142CPU and 2953GPU and no samsung devices are even on the charts (with 1.4ghz OC but still stock is a lot better, and I would recommend installing a custom rom...). The call quality can be quite bad until you flash the baseband but after that it should be great. I have nothing bad to say about this phone, and when 2.4 comes out it will only get better (2.4 is rumored to come with real dual-core support)
Even though mine's been working quite well for past 2 weeks as my daily phone, there are also people who are quite fed up with theirs.
I hadn't read xda's user reviews prior to getting mine, but if I were to get another 2x now, I would wait for LG to provide a firmware update that significantly reduces the lock-up/reboot/battery drain issues. It's just to be perfectly sure that I will get one as stable (or more so) than my existing 2x.
I believe the battery drain issue can be fixed manually. just need a through check on whats running and how
thank you all for replies!
(xilw3r sorry i have run out if thanks!)
i
so most issues will be fixed with updates? but does the phone need to use a custom rom to be usable? is lg's ui good?
and is dualcore really much of a difference? do you notice a giant speed difference betweeen other android phones, or is it overhyped?
is battery life good on this? how long heavy use can it last under wifi?
im really stuck considering this and the
desire s
LG ui is laggy and a personal choice, i use lancher pro plus. heavy use and wifi battery lasts a few hours.
Battery doesnt last a day with low usage for me. 5-10% per hour on standby. With 3g on and mail twitter etc sync every 60 minutes. my old hero lasts longer with heavier use
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
Can't comment much on the performance or UI as I moved over from Symbian. Though, it's much smoother in its user interaction than my son's LG Optimus One, but that's single core, 600mhz.
On days that I don't play much with it and actually use it like a typical work phone, the battery remains above 50% by 6pm. I think usually about 1 to 1.5 hour talk, hourly email auto-checks, less than half-hour of browsing and less than 20 SMSes. I am not a heavy user: I don't IM at all, nor GPS or game much. Just typical work-type usage.
Note: I switch off wifi when I am out of the house and rely on 3G for data connection. I find that keeps the battery lasting longer.

then you have some application/service/process running roque
Mine easily last 10 hours in standby with only 1% battery use (wifi and 3g and autosync enabled)
if you have 5-10% drain per hour on standby, you have some application/service/process not going to sleep as it should, using cpu and power, and preventing your phone from entering standby mode.
Thats not a problem of the phone - but a software issue that you as user need to investigate and solve
with low usage I easily get 2 days running - with moderate use 1½ - and with heavy use 1 full day.
No strange processes running here, spent a few days of testing with different roms aswell drain still exists
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
thanks fir responses! i was gonna say 5-10 drainage in an hr is bad! is the a common problem? i heard abt these battey issues!
Battery usage:
16h after power was unplugged, I still have around 40-45% of battery. Low usage (WiFi/3G on, a few calls, gTalk, but no email sync activated).

If you look through the forums of any phone, there will be a lot of people talking about how they have some sort of problem.

yea but o2x is A LOT, mean u have 60 page thead about reboot issues.... that doesnt look too promising ..
You can always return it if you have too many problems

The stores have em already, G-slate and G2x. Played with both today, I know the manager in store but before somebody make a dumb comment pertaining to that, aint nuttin top secret and no special info was bestowed on me because of who I know. The stores just have them stocked already. The slate is nice though, good build, nice size and weight, kinda reminded me of the ipad but lighter. Honeycomb makes our phones look like gameboy colors.

[Your opinion about ROM developing?]

....since i bought my Galaxy s(i had iPhone 3GS before) i tried almost every cooked ROM,stock, made my own with kitchen online in XDA........they have a lots in common, they are nice(lots of them),fast,smooth..........the bad thing is the battery consumption, display is consuming the most of the battery.......battery life i succeded to pull out with medium usage(nothing online) is 3 days.So what i wanted to say is: my opinion is that developers(Chef's) should use they knowledge and energy to make better energy utilization, not the speed.......every ROM today is fast and nice.........this is my opinion,it wasn't my intention to offend anyone, just to see what do you think abouut this idea...........
well, i do partly agree with you
but, different user, different needs, i'd rather have a very fast and stable ROM and charge it every day, than have FC's, laggy software etc.
Having 2-3 chargers is not a problem (and a cost) nowadays.
I use my phone a lot, from simple things like calling (2-3 hours a day), texting (20-30 SMS a day), Internet, 3 e-mail boxes having sync every an hour, navigation, to gaming (mostly when in the toilet). All of that most of the time in 3G / 3.5G range!
So in my case my SGS must be extremaly stable and fast and battery? well: 1 charger at home, 1 in the office, 1 in my car and 1 at my girl's place
I'm not saying that most will say the same, but I think the majority of users pay more attention to speed and stability than battery life.
If you want to have phone with good battery life = buy Nokia 6610i
4" display with 1 GHz CPU are not good friends to your battery

Exactly my point.
There's no point in sticking with 2-3 days of battery life. You can always charge your phone at night or before you go out in the morning. What you need is better performance, stability. It is OK even if I have to charge my phone everyday
My opinion, is that you should read the stickies before posting. Especially the one by allgamer.

I'm not sure that if my phone has a low battery life or others as well . When I go to bed , my phone was at 70% and I wake up after 8 hours of sleep . My phone dropped to 58% . Is that a normal case or should I get a new battery pack ?

i'm using 1800 mugen power battery. it's better on about 20/30 % and you can really see that. so if you want to buy new battery - better buy this one than original. i'm working with it for half of a year n everything is fine.
about your battery - yes, it can go in that way and its normal for our dev.

Mine is about the same as yours, 100% at sleep and 88(at times it's 87 or 86) or so when I wake up. But I think I slept for about 10h
Edit*
Atm it's at 80% and it has been on battery for 13h exactly
im having issue with poor battery life on this device too up to 5hrs ~)
A tip is to disable sweep2wake if you have it enabled. it consumes a lot battery. Since I disabled it yesterday my battery gained a couple of hours battery life.

Imo it's just placebo effect. I actually think that they waste battery than save.
About battery saving apps:
Some might help save some of your battery, like Juice Defender, but about 100% of the stuff that an app does is something you can do for yourself.
Like dim the screen when you don't need 100% brightness, turn off data and use only GSM when you don't need to use data (and if 3G has better reception it might be worth staying on 3G though, at least in my world a better reception would mean a little bit better battery than if you changed to the network mode with worse reception) and when you don't need WiFi - you turn it off.
Using apps to kill other services and apps are not a good idea either, since some apps will only restart and restart and restart while the task killer will keep killing = both apps will drain your battery.
And by turning off both WiFi and data and the apps are well designed, they should not try to look for updates and such if there are no available internet connections.
And, by undervolting you gain more than using different apps and such and if you then learn how to set up your device in the best way for battery you will get longer battery life.
If I don't use my phone so often, I can get about 2 days with 3G/GSM + WiFi turned on all the time and mobile data connection turned on all the time. If I use it a lot I still get long enough battery time to make a full day, usually I need to charge my phone every 18-24 hours when I use it to check mail, send some texts and read news (and XDA, as the addicted person I am).
Now, I just hope that I haven't f*cked anything up - I'm just too lazy to read it through.

I bought myself a Nexus 7 about a month ago to satisfy the cravings for that Jellybean goodness. After trying several ICS/JB roms on my IncS over the past year, I decided to revert back to the CM7 Nightlies. Much to my surprise it's almost as if I forgot how blazingly fast Gingerbread was.
Given how i use my IncS on a daily basis, I seem to be averaging around 34-36 hours before it hits below 5%. It really only gets used for calls, texts and wifi tethering to my N7.

I used to average 30% battery drain per day with light use with stock GB rom and kernal, it has upped to approx 50% per day with stock ICS rom, with lOst profit's overclock kernal running at 1400 wake and 368 sleep. ( setcpu )
Not bad considering 40% increase in processor speed, but less than 20% increase in battery usage.

keep in mind you have to give it a couple of hours , maybe even a day(depending on how much it has to do and your connection etc) Before the rom settles down after flashing. Then you can give your impression of it if it is laggy or not.

[Q] Battery life

Hello everyone,
I wonder how much battery life you have on i9000 with stock battery (1500mHa) on cm 10.1 with semaphore kernel?
Asking, just because I can only get max. 12h of battery life with cm 10.1 20130218 rom and semaphore 2.9.10, smartassv2 and row. Wondering is this normal or my battery needs to be changed. Any suggestions to max battery life on i9000 would be appreciated too
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
The battery can last between 3hours and a week, depending on how you use your phone, so that's not a good question to ask.
If you feel that the battery is running out too quickly then download betterbatterystats and look for any apps using unusually high partial wakelocks or alarms and get rid of them. It only takes 1 rogue app to screw up your battery life.

I think he knows that.
12 hours uptime is not uncommon, especially when on 3g a lot. On wifi you should be able to get at least 20 h in my experience. If the battery is as old as your phone I suppose its capacity is not what it used to be, and you might consider replacing it with a sgs+ one f.i. - they come cheap nowaways!

That's in your experience, the way you use your phone.
Try playing NFS MW or something. You'll get about 2 hours on a gti9000. It varies far too much to try and tell people how many hours battery life they should be getting. Totally depends.

I use my phone for 3h wifi browsing, 30 min. music and 30 min gaming, but nothing intense. And with this usage I get 12h battery life. Flashed 2.3.5 stock rom. Still getting 18h max. So I think this comes to conclusion that my battery is old enough. That's why I asked for the battery life you get, because I didnt knew this is usual or not
My last for 2 days more or less depending on usage.
AW: [Q] Battery life
Guys i think its wrong to measure the battery life with how long your phone is working. i personally look at the screen on time it says more than just how long our device is working. I get always stats around 3h its unimportant if my Phone works 6h or 18h.

[TUT] Extending Battery Life

So our phone has a lithium Ion battery right? Well heres some things most people do not know about this type of battery.
Sorry if this has been posted before!
Li-ion batteries begin to degrade as soon as they start to be used.
One cycle is based on a 100% depth of discharge (e.g. discharging from full to empty), the potential number of charges can be increased by not allowing the battery to become fully discharged before topping it up. For example, allowing a fully charged battery rated at 500 cycles to drop to 50% before recharging could potentially triple the number of charge/discharge cycles to 1500 before the battery capacity degrades, thus increasing the batteries overall lifespan. However, this also means the battery will need to be plugged in more regularly.
This means that keeping the phone topped up, and not waiting for full discharges will potentially extend the battery life of the phone.
In no way am i saying this a definite thing, as i do not know, and this wont extend your screen on time if that's what your after, it will offer you the same amount of screen on time, for an extended period of time.
So to conclude, charging little and often can extend the life of your battery. In theory anyways. I read up on this from a few articles and websites, too many to reference, but this is the combined knowledge i found.
There are still a lot of people who thinks that you must discharge to empty.
This was required when NiCd batteries were in use. Li-Ion are different.
Thanks for posting that! :highfive:

best battery saving strategy:
1) turn off wifi and 3g
2) put down your phone and pick up a book to read
3) dont touch you phone, use the landline to make call and laptop for messaging
right, speady?
Just kidding, WiFi and 3G are actually your battery killer. I'm currently using CM11 and can have 3 hours light gaming (Plague Inc.) with 700MHz CPU and 200MHz GPU settings. Another tip is dont use background process (such as news, email or even swiftkey; Google location accessing as well), they do wake your phone up regularly to sense if you have connection with the Internet Lord.
