Hey guys, I'm normally on the galaxy s part of the forum, but my girlfriend has been having issues on her HTC hero's internet, so I'm coming with a few questions. She's on a prepaid sprint network, and I just wanted to know if I can root it like a normal phone and flash cyanogenmod 7. Also, if I can do that, how safe is it? Thanks in advance =)

Root using z4root. You just have to manually reboot when it says rebooting. Then install a custom recovery using ROM Manager, and if you want newest CWM, go to my signature. Be sure to do a backup of stock in case

Will there ever be a way to unlock the Vivid without losing data? If not, what is erased when the bootloader is unlocked? Is there a way to backup this stuff without losing data? I'm a real noob, so this is why I am asking, I'm just the most paranoid person ever when it comes to messing with the phone because on my old iPhone, I tried to jailbreak once and was in a bootloop for almost 4 hours before I finally got iTunes to see it.

i dont think so but you never know there are many apps that will back up stuff for you but when you unlock your bootloader it does a factory reset making your phone like it was when you first got it just bootloader unlocked my advice is to read read read before trying anything make sure you understand what you are about to do there is always risk when you do things to your phone but there are alot of benifits too
Will I lose music, pictures, videos? That's what I'm really worried about losing cause I don't have an SD card, yet.

yes you will just hook your phone up to your computer and drag and drop everything you want to save then after your done put them back
One more question. Does an SD card get wiped if I get one?

Just flash a stock rom and wipe your data. That's all!
Try giving a good title. Writing urgent wont make it. You have to give a clue of your prob so that people here could easily know if they could help or not.
Hope that helps. Just sharing what I learned from posting on XDA.

Hi Guys,
Excuse my noob question,
I've been following this thread religiously (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...084604&page=30)
I have a Telstra GT-I9305T and I've followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1914394) and now I have CWM 5.5 and I've applied SuperSu.
I grabbed the latest ROM cm-10.1-20130211-UNOFFICIAL-i9305.zip - 175.49 MB post number 278 from codeworkx, copied it onto my SD card, done all the wipes but I get a Status 7 Installation aborted error when trying to install it through the recovery menu.
You wouldn't happen to know what I've done wrong? I'm pulling my hair out over this one.
Cheers
Sean.

Hey fellow LG Owner(s) I am writing this asking for some help. I know that majority of LG Phones use the same software and flashing tools regarding taking your phone back to stock. I currently own an LG G Flex (LS995 Sprint Variant) and I managed to soft brick my phone. I have posted this same message over at the LG G Flex Threads but so far I have gotten no one to provide me some sort of solution on how to un-brick or factory reset my phone.
The status of my phone before it got bricked was it had Root (IOROOT method), Busy-Box (by Jrummy), Build.Prop was edited to display as a Nexus 5, and boot-loader locked along with no custom recovery. If you’re wondering why my boot-loader was locked and why there wasn’t any type of custom recovery was due to the sad fact that Developers are having a hard time on cracking it.
Now to explain on how I soft bricked my phone. I was changing my font style by using a tool called ROM Toolbox (by Jrummy). I managed to change my font once and I attempted to change it a second time, since I was looking for something that displayed it wider and bolder. So as I applied install on the new font I got an automatic reboot.
The reboot consisted of the normal LG Logo display, followed by a black screen and staying as a black screen. On the upper left of my phone the notification indicator was flashing multiple colors (red, white, blue etc). This is the current state of my phone, black screen with a multicolor notification.
My attempts to fix:
- Simple reboot of the phone ((fail))
- Let the phones battery drain out then charge for a few minutes and restart ((fail))
- Managed to get into STOCK recovery and perform clean partition ((fail)
- Managed to get into STOCK recovery and apply factory reset ((fail))
- I got into some weird mode which also gave me the option to apply factory reset ((fail))
- I followed this tutorial (LG Flash Tool) on how to revert back to stock (by hyelton) ((fail))
Link to tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
The tutorial by hyelton was almost successful to reverting back to stock firmware until I got to the last step (Number 6). The error that occurred by using the LG Flash Tool was when the tool attempted to flash the stock firmware it gave me a Download FAIL!! “Device Model is different“ notification (Images below). I did this tutorial at least seven times and I got no luck. Every single time that I attempted to do this I kept getting the same notification. I have now ran out if ideas on what to do.
My theory, I believe that by changing my build prop to display as a nexus 5 is the reason why I keep getting this fail notification. On the phone it-self when I put it into download mode it even displays as a Nexus 5 (Images below).
I was wondering since it’s possible to get into STOCK RECOVERY, I saw that it had an option for “ADB SIDELOAD” is it possible to push something thru ADB??? Any type of help is greatly appreciated and thanked. Please do not get upset that you see this in multiple LG threads, I am just trying to find a solution to UNBRICK this very expensive phone that I bought and I cannot afford to just use it as a paper weight. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS
Here is a Link to all my files regarding STOCK tot, dll,lg flash tools, aboot, buildprop, lg usb drivers and adb drivers that are for my phone
Link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1D8UNLjuTB6TWpCQ1pJME5qWk0&usp=sharing
i hope these files help anyone that are attempting to help me put my phone back to stock
Alright yall, I am almost official screwed. I purchased this phone about a month ago from Best Buy and they stated that I am out of there 15 day window so I cannot exchange or replace for the same phone. I then went to Sprint on whom I have phone insurance for and they stated that they cannot do anything and that I have to go to one of their Sprint repair stores. I went to one of the repair stores and the gentlemen that assisted me plugged my phone to his computer and immediately knew that my phone was rooted. So from there I played the dumb blonde card acting like I don’t know what he’s talking about and from there he directed me to call LG and see what they can do. So now the current status is I filed a repair request and now I am awaiting a reply from LG. Does anyone have any suggestion???
**SOLUTION** hey yall i got the solution to my problem and it was simply by downloading this universal custom .dll from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369
and i managed to flash back to stock recovery using this guide. instead using the dll on the the guide i used the custom one.

am i officially screwed?? - sprint LS995
by using ROM tool box (by Jrummy) it’s an awesome app but I decided to play around with the custom font option and when I tried to install another custom font it decided to reboot my phone to the LG logo and from there the screen goes black with the little indicator light on the upper right of the phone flashing multiple colors.
Fixes that i have attempted to apply where:
-multiple reboots nothing happened same results
-let the battery drain out of the phone then let it charge for a bit and restart it with no luck
-go into recovery mode to clear partition and reboot, but no luck
-go into recovery mode and apply factory reset but no luck
At the end of all these attempts I continue to get the LG LOGO and after that has played out i get a black screen with my notification indicator flashing multiple different colors.
** so i decided to go back to stock firmware by following hyelton directions and so far i got everything to work but one thing which is i remember changing my build prop a while ago to be noticed as a nexus 5 and now the LG Flash tool wont update my phone to the stock firmware because it recognizes it as another device. please help me, there has to be another way around this **
Also what option was I suppose to choose when installing lg flash tool. Was it the global mode or test mode?? Because I chose the global mode I hope I was correct.

I'm just going to throw my opinion out there. I hate returning a phone that you broke. It's not sprints fault or best buys fault. As a matter of fact they did everything they could(locked bootloader, no root, etc. ) to stop this. There's a reason every carrier has started locking bootloaders now.
You're a grown man so do whatever you want just thought I would throw an opinion out there. Plus recovering this is a good learning experience. I bet you'll learn a lot about the workings of Android in the end

I agree. I saw way too much of that in the T-Mobile galaxy s3 forum. It seriously irritates me when people do that.
I will say this. I do agree that it is kind of wrong. But when corporations make over triple the profit of a phone then I don't really see anything wrong with it. If they wouldn't have locked the phone down to where we could have a recovery on it right now he wouldn't be going through this problem. He could have restored a nandroid or flashed a new Rom. I have never had to return a phone for this reason. I mean hell, I bought a spare just so I could finish my tether mod and not have to keep using LG flash tool on my daily driver. Plus all a cell phone company is going to do is send it back to LG and get another free phone out of it. Yes it is his fault for changing the build.prop and other mods. Everyone makes mistakes and the best of us learn from them. I'm sure Christiam learned his lesson. I don't feel he should have to spend 599 to buy a new phone for it, when it probably cost under 100 to make.

I completely agree also because (my opinion) if you return a phone, they will try to do everything possible to make it as new and sell it but the people that will spend money to work on YOUR phone are going to be paid from LGE because of YOUR error, not LG's. If LG pays those people to spend time on YOUR phone, the prices of the next phones (by LG) will grow up. I said it, my opinion (99% of times I am wrong)

I wonder how lgflash determines what firmware you're flashing? Is it just the file name out the build.prop if the file? I ask because maybe we can tell the tool the file you're flashing is for a nexus so it matches your current build prop. I'll look and see if I can figure it out tomorrow, but maybe one of our pros already know

im sorry that some of you feel the way you feel but i just want you all to know that i come from a family of smart phone moto droid, samsung epic, htc evo, htc evo 3d to current model g flex. an this is the first time that i have had an issue like this. so for those of you that think im ripping the system off, im pretty sure the cell phone carriers and phone manufacturer have dug deep enough into my pockets for the past 5 years. no hate you all know that i love
I saw you can unroot in supersu. I was wondering if i unroot would i be able to factory reset with no probpems and would all bloatware return even though i removed them?

No the bloatware will not return. You need to use the back to stock method. This will set the root checker back to zero and make the phone look like it's never been used.
I like my phones like I like my women.... flexible

What if I do a factory reset with a rooted device using stock AT&T firmware? It will brick?
My question goes because I'm gonna sell my device to a friend so I just want to leave it as it is, I just need to change Google account.

No. You can do a factory reset with a rooted g flex on any carriers firmware without issue(aside from losing all data). A factory reset won't unroot the device but I think you can do that through the superuser app itself.

I really liked the phone at first but I'm really sorry I bought it at this point. I miss my Sammy! I'm praying for loki and custom recovery:crying:
Yeah bro not being Abel to flash any roms right now and how this phone is right now got me bummed. At this point im willing to trade it for a note 3 or even the new htc one.
Guys. Honestly I've had all Sammy phones. And I've been rooting and modding and flashing for about 6 years. This is honestly the first phone I've never even had somewhat of an interest to root. I've read through the thread but right now there is no reason for me to root. Phone performs great. Looks great. Outstanding battery life. This phone is phenomenal AS IS. IMHO

You have to go back to stock for the update. I tried every way around that but it kept picking up on the root being tripped somehow.

Didn't mean to thank you lol. It depends on which carrier you have. So far only the Korean and AT&T models have 4.4 kitkat
