I just cancelled my AT&T contract and am now on a T-Mobile family plan, successfully unlocked my phone and have a few questions.
1) Is there any way to remove the AT&T default apps or can I only disable them? Also wondering if I can change the boot screen from AT&T to T-Mobile?
2) Will updates still work if I'm on T-Mobile now? Are there ways to optimize the phone for the new network or does it not matter?
3) I'm on the latest software version from AT&T, is root possible?

1) There is no way to remove them without root. However, it is possible to disable them with Package Disabler, just Google it for the apk's.
2) Updates will no longer work without an AT&T simcard. But there is a S6 Active forum (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...e/downloading-flashing-att-galaxy-s6-t3260744) which explains how to update without an AT&T simcard.
3) A root is not possible at the moment, only when you're on 5.0.2 or 5.1.1.
Package disabler no longer disables AT&T apps. If you have it installed, and it still has this functionality, don't update it.
the app "BK Package Disabler" works just fine. I've got something like 120 things disabled, mostly AT&T and Samsung. Better battery life.
Recently purchased an unlocked Note 8 Model SMN950UIZKAX from Best Buy to use on Verizon and was wanting to Flash Verizon software to it to get the advanced calling features and other Verizon stuff that is missing. My question is if I flash the latest firmware found on the Sam Mobile site for the SM-N950U1 for Verizon....I think from 9/15, would this enable the options? Is it possible to flash back to the Unlocked software once the Verizon software has been flashed if I decided to? Is there a better option other than flashing? Please be gentle because I have been out of the game for a while and want to make sure I am doing everything right.

The correct Verizon firmware are for SM-N950U....not SM-N950U1, that version is for unlocked with Verizon csc...

You can flash back to unlocked firmware by following this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ecovery-odin-recovery-software-t3671615/page1
Be sure to use the Prince Comsy's Odin to flash from Verizon to unlocked...
Unlocked to Verizon can use regular Odin.
Is there a way us U1 guys can flash only the VZW data file for video/wifi calling like the sprint guys are doing?
To keep have the best of both worlds so to speak...
Yes, I tried it and it works to get visual voicemail. But the option for Wi-Fi calling will only show up if you flash the whole firmware and userdata

-HD voice (VoLTE) can be turned on by calling verizon. *611. (For us U1 people)
-After 2 hours of talking to VZW, and lots of lots of reading here on the great XDA- The only way I have found that implies Video Calling will work on the U1 for VZW is to flash the carrier package above. Effectively turning your "unlocked" into a carrier branded phone.
-Per VZW, Wifi Calling simply will not work. (cant confirm or deny).
Personally hoping we find a way to flash the video calling / visual voicemail / wifi calling modules only without having to flash the entire firmware.
I flashed the sm-n950u firmware and all functions fully work with the exception of video calling due to a non Verizon IMEI.

I flashed the u not u1(which is my model #) via the Prince Comsy Odin found at:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-N950U/VZW/download/N950USQU1AQI5/188972/
Flash the BL in BL, AP in AP, CP in CP, CSC in CSC(not HOME_CSC), and the USERDATA in the UMS. To enable UMS ensure your using the Prince Comsy Odin, right click the Odin3.ini file and edit it, change UMS/PATCH=0 TO UMS/PATCH=1 and save. Flash all together and everything works except video calling because Verizon blocks it on their system if you're not using a Verizon IMEI#. There is a workaround though. If you put your sim card into a Verizon branded phone, boot it, then pull the sim and put it in your unlocked note 8, video calling works until you reboot and their system catches a non Verizon IMEI number hitting their network. Then it's automatically blocked. I started using Google Duo instead and I'm happy. Wi-Fi calling, VoLTE, and Visual Voicemail are all working great.

Is it possible to flash the Verizon on a Unlocked to get the Visual Voicemail then flash back to Unlocked or you have to remain Verizon to keep Visual Voicemail?

You can just flash the USERDATA in UMS, but you won't have WiFi calling.

Visual voicemail requires USERDATA or complete flash...after root, we can edit buildprop and get vvm working on unlocked. There is a way to edit buildprop via adb but you must know the vvm settings to add...i am looking into doing it for my Sprint but am debating because I am liking Google voice better
for Verizon on unlocked...some have called to have WiFi calling and VoLTE added to their imei #, or the imei # added to their database so that the device can receive an update enabling those features...Sprint has features enabled for any imei as long as the SIM is one on their records...problem is getting a Verizon rep that will know what to do with the imei...good luck

What specifically did you flash for VVM?
Follow the instructions in post #8 and you will have vvm. I had to call after and they had to activate it under my new IMEI but overall not as arduous as trying to get them to add my IMEI to their database for Video Calling (I still haven't found a rep to do it).

What phone did you have prior to the Note 8? Video Calling & VoLTE is super easy to get working
I had the note 4 for a while, seems Verizon has blocks that can all be removed by admin with the exception of video calling. Wheather I log in and try to remove the block or an admin, it automatically re-enables the lock due to the IMEI not being a Verizon phone. I found a trick to get the lock off but when I reboot my note 8 their system picks up a non Verizon IMEI and defaults back to locked. I have a request to have my IMEI added, but it's been a week already and it still kicks back on. Wish I knew a Verizon admin with the juice, if they haven't added it in a few days then I'll try again but if they won't add it then it's Duos, hangouts, or FB messenger for Video Calling my U1. Wish I could spoof my IMEI, maybe I'll look that up later today, but it's probably chip based.

I've been using my U1 with Video Calling since 9/5 without issues, features stay on the account unless you remove them.
Do you still have the Note 4? If I recall that was the first VZW device with WiFi Calling/VoLTE, if you enable the features on the account they stay on. I've been using unlocked devices since ~2012 & they have always worked without issues accept WiFi Calling which requires VZW firmware
Not working like that for me. Every time I reboot automatically blocks video calling.
So, I made the choice: I took my unlocked back and swapped for the VZW branded one.
I was under the impression "unlocked" was the bootloader when I bought the U1, but yea, it wasn't lol. I was tired of trying to get everything to work on the U1 and some of big reds features are really neat. A few hundred MB space wasted on bloat is no big deal to me, and I have never left the USA in my life, so VZW is fine.. With things like BK disabler, it really makes dealing with carrier bloat ALOT better then on the say S4 where you couldn't turn it off (stock, luckily there was awesome root/roms). I literally turn everything off from VZW I dont want with BK, deny their permissions and clear data, and they can just rot hidden away.
I have noticed The U1 comes with free ultra caller ID spam thing, the VZW doesn't have this, that I can find. Talking to VZW now to figure out why I don't have this feature on my new phone for free when the unlocked has it. EDIT: Dunno if I would recommend switching anymore, that caller ID is very nice and used WAY more then wifi calling for me. Wifi calling ONLY works when the phone has no mobile signal period. Which kinda defeats the purpose I wanted it for was to save minutes. (Thought it would make calls over WifI when connected like data, but that isnt the case) The VZW version is also missing the built in clean master, which I also enjoyed. Its like you trade 3 samsung features for 3 VZW, cant have them all and Im getting upset with big red honestly.
If and when we get root, it wont matter which phone we have from what I read, because it will come from an ENG firmware which can be flashed on anything.
So the only Verizon app I would like working on my unlocked u1 note 8 is NFL mobile. I literally don't use any of the other ones and personally like how clean my note 8 was out of the box. Is there any short fix to get that working or would I have to go through the whole way of flashing the vzw firmware a few steps back? I don't mind some, but I just got the phone how I want it lol so I don't want to do it if I don't have to.
I'm about to receive my first Galaxy device (a locked US S21 Ultra sold by AT&T) after being a Pixel/Nexus user for many years. I'd like to remove as much bloatware as possible while preserving features such as WiFi calling, Visual Voice Mail, etc. If I replace the 998U firmware with 998U1, does that result in no Wi-Fi calling? (idk why AT&T says Wi-Fi calling isn't supported on unlocked devices) Can I simply reinstall some .apk to enable those features after flashing the debloated firmware? Can AT&T userdata be flashed with a U1 firmware to preserve those features? Sorry for the noob questions, I'm going to read up on flashing Samsung devices and using Odin, but I'm trying to get an idea of what I need to do to debloat my phone while preserving those features (Wi-Fi calling is an absolute must, if it requires AT&T bloatware installed I'll just soldier on with that crap using up my storage...) Thanks for your time.
WiFi calling and HD Voice (AT&T version of VoLTE) work fine on my unlocked S21U.
There is no VVM. (you can sort of do it using Google Voice).
You should be able disable most AT&T stuff, and further if you wish use adb to remove.

VVM working great on my unlocked S21U on ATT
A lot of AT&T redundant junk that does nothing except use resources.
Disable carrier feedback (Google and Samsung too). AT&T Updates as well as it constantly runs in the background.
I use Karma Firewall and PD MDM to lock my AY&T 10+ down... and take out the trash.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.

This package disabler* lets you set a widget to toggle checked apks on/off. I use it to toogle Google Play Services and Playstore on if I need them. This both protects me and greatly reduces battery usage. GPlayS needs to be on for Gmail to load. I am $ick of Google...
*choose the appropriate version. Been using this one for years, zero issues and no Playstore to screw it up. Low resource and battery consumption. Can be firewall blocked after setup.

Curious why it's not working on mine. It installed from my OnePlus Pro 8 backup but when I opened it on the S21 Ultra it said not compatible. Guess I have to do some digging.
Edit: Couldn't find it in the store, so downloaded latest from apkmirror, installed and it's working now. Cheers

Glad it's working. I got mine to show up by calling my voicemail once and logging in. Once I did that, the app showed up.
I have a Galaxy S20 5G that I unlocked from Boost and took over to Mint. It is working about 98% fine, but there are a few quirks that bug me. First, I haven't been able to get rid of the Boost Visual Voicemail app (I've gotten about all the other Boost apps off) and there are some hiccups with the cellular service that I feel like may be scraps of Boost stuff messing with things as these don't seem to happen on the two Mint provided phones that I also have. Little stuff like weird lack of 5G, slow, etc. I realize Mint, like Boost, is an MVNO and at the bottom of the prioritization table. I would like to just make sure that there is no trace of anything Boost lurking on the phone. Ideally, I want to flash a factory stock ROM. Can anyone point me to where to find the files to accomplish this? I'm familiar with Odin, just not sure where to find a compatible ROM.
TIA for any assistance!
Just wondering if anyone else might have had this issue I'm having and if there is any fix or work around for this. So I imported a Vivo X90 Pro Plus China variant and am currently using it in the US. I originally was using Verizon on it but was having network issues. Would work for a week or so (4G data, text, voice all worked), then would go to no bars and no service and would not re-connect with the network. I would have to remove the sim card, and re insert it multiple times or activate a new sim card and put it back into the phone for the phone to re connect and show signal bars and work again. So I assumed its just Verizon thus switched to a T-mobile sim and started using T-mobile with the device. With T-mobile worked better, got 5G instead of only 4G and everything was smooth for about 3 weeks. Then again I am having this same issue. Every week it drops service and says no service, I have to remove the sim card, insert a completely different sim and remove that sim and re insert my active sim for the phone to re establish and activate with the network.
SO the only thing I can think is that either the phone software somewhere is rejecting and blocking the sim or network after a while for some reason, or that the carrier (tmobile and verizon) are rejecting the phone being on their network and kicking it out. But if that is the case, why does it work again when I remove the sim, insert a different sim and re insert the same active sim back again. Makes me lean toward a software lock or something.
Any ideas? Thanks guys.
Im now in US too, currently running on mint and i didnt see any problems with network issues, most of time in on wifi but every time i need data it works fine. Only difference is im running european sim on slot 1 and us on slot 2.
oh, hmm not sure what could be causing this issue for me. I'm thinking maybe one of the installed Chinese apps are interfering with it but not sure.
I'm on mint as well (uses T-Mobile network).
Never had any network issues.
It might be worth trying to restore the phone and try the newer 2.6.4 debloat script as a baseline.
Then after that you can try removing some of the additional system packages like vivo store or vivo.pem (although the jury is mixed on whether it's useful to do that).

I may have to try that and look into it. I'm not too familiar with doing any rooting or running adb stuff (been years since I did that sort of thing) so worried I might mess something up rather than fix it lol
