Well, I've got my Diamond for a week now. Its a good looking phone, but I hardly get HSDPA signal comparing to my previous Hermes. Then I upgraded to new rom 1.37.707.1.WWE with radio version 1.00.25.03 hoping to get HSDPA signal easily. No change
Meanwhile my huawei e220 modem get this signal so easy. Any clues?? thanks in advance
Do you get 3G/UMTS reception instead or do you stick to GSM/GPRS?
I'm stick with GSM/GPRS though my settings is set to auto for both network type and GSM/UMTS band

same problem here...
however, with my tytnII I dont get any hsdpa at all, and with my diamond its almost all the time at hsdpa, but only with one bar reception inside, or it switch back to GSM/GPRS.... weird ****, because hsdpa is enabled on my TytnII...
hopefully a new radio will come soon
I have also noticed that compared to my TYTN II the Diamond's HSDPA reception is absolutly crap. It came with a 1.35 ROM and older version of the radio so I also tried upgrading to 1.37.707.1 with radio 1.00.25.03 and no change.
I live right in the middle of Melbourne, Australia and the quality of HSDPA is crap crap crap.... Hopefully a new radio will be out soon as this is this is one of the things that really lets the Diamond down.

I must second that. I live in Sydney and 3G reception is totally crap.
There are also other threads here dealing with this problem:

Hello dear xda-developers.com forum!
Since app. 2 weeks I've got some strange issue with my HTC Kaiser:
If I set the Band/Network to auto, it's not possible to place phone calls or to surf over 3G/UMTS. If it's set to GSM (not to auto), I can surf over GPRS only and it's possible to place phone calls.
My provider is O2 - Germany. UMTS - option's enabled. UMTS-Sim-Card is used.
I upgraded to a Nothrill ROM with a new radio rom version - no effect. Same as before.
I hope there's no hardware-issue.
Eventually anyone can help me?
By the way: If auto - select is on (settings-phone-band, both values set to auto), the icon in the task bar shows that theres 3G available. If I try to surf with that connection, the Kaiser tries to connect with O2 interent - without success. But after that, the antenna-icon shows an exclamation mark and tells me, that theres no signal available....very strange thing.....
So, I hope anyone can help me,
regards and thanks for any help in advance,
Mario
Hi Many of us seem to have the same problem, its a hardware problem according to kilrah

Hardware problem, repair needed and unavoidable to get 3G functionality back.

though I am not convinced, I.M.O. It goes wrong too often in the same way to be hardware.....
My post is below.

I have been travelling round the world for a year and have the same problem, Have tried many radios, if I use 3G( wscdma) or auto band then the signal drops everytime i try to make a call, and no data is possible however if I use gsm only data and voice work fine, thease symptoms are on many networks, Chile, Easter Island,Tahiti, NZ, Fiji, Optus ( OZ ), and m1 ( singapore ),
Radios tried
EMO 1.71.09.01
Neon 1.65.24.36
1.65.21.18 ( att )
I even loaded the generic dopod rom + radio and it didnt seem to help.
Is it possible something low level has changed whilst doing all this flashing ?
Or could the Hard SPL affect something.
I always try to buy a 3G USIM in each country and test the sim in a backup G800 to ensure the carrier has enabled 3g data okay.
Phone is Kaiser ( HTC TytnII )
ROM is varied but and usually lorentis series roms -- L26 12 light atm
Symptoms, 3G icon shows but data wont connect, if you try to call radio strength bar drops to zero and cell communications are lost , sometimes reestablishes comms but often needs soft reset to band switch to work.
If 3G icon not showing all calls and GPRS data works Okay.
Personally I would not expect this to be a hardware failiure as many others are experiencing teh same fault and for working hardware to fail in use is more erratic in the failiure mode, but a low level register, or some other type of protocol corruption could easiliy be the cause......
The proven "high GPS current consumption in standby" issue is also present as it seems to be on all Kaisers but afaik the root cause of this was never resolved either .....

People have a problem .. (sorry my English!)
My Kaiser has decided that no longer can use the 3G and HSDPA networks ...! The problem is that when I detect the GSM network the phone works fine, but if I find the 3G or HSDPA, just try to make a call to blow off the net (X symbol on the top bar) and then loses the radio signal!
I tried to flashing all the Radio, ROM and SPL which I found online! I do not know what to do ... is a year that I have the kaiser and has always worked well! how can I do?
There is something that regulates the radio? Maybe some registry key ...!
Help me please...!
Most likely your 3G radio died. It's a known problem with early Kaiser units. Return to service center necessary, they will replace the whole mainboard.
Hi All, I want to know if I flash a new radio won't that change the operation frequencies? I mean I have an X1a in Australia and I got this phone so I can use with Telstra NextG (UMTS 850) when in the regional ares and bush. Isn't the Radio the part that determines what frequency it uses? I don't want to attempt an upgrade of radio if it means I lose this access.
Is there a way or utility to back up just the radio in the X1 in case of issues?
Another interesting point is that a thread and a site that shows the circuit boards of an X1 shows the power amps for the frequencies. I see it has all of the IC's in place for all the operating frequencies combined (X1i and X1a) does this mean there could be a way of not only quadband GSM but Quad band UMTS as well?
Sorry if these questions are asked elsewhere but I went through the Radio threads I could find and no one specifically mentions the frequency they are using.
Regards Ismael
Any help available?
Radio frequencies are governed by hardware, not software. By flashing a different radio, you may find improved / worsened reception, data speeds and battery life.
Just make sure you are flashing a compatible radio, most people agree that if possible to have matching rilphone.dll installed as well. Can't stress enough tho that you want to make sure both radio and rilphone are compatible, otherwise, you may face a hard reset.
hi,
