Radio Issues (on 890 OTA) - Motorola Droid 3

I'm not sure if this occured with the pre-OTA 890 version, but I noticed that the radio on the 890 is very flaky, it turns on and off at will. However, I notice that this usually happens when Wifi is on at the same time as the radio and the radio bars show up as blue or if you simultaneously see 3G and Wifi logos, both blue. I also further noticed that this appears to happen only if I reboot or boot up with the wifi and radio activated - if I turn off the wifi before rebooting, the signal is very steady and I never see the combination of blue basr/3G logs and blue wifi. Has anyone else seen this activity? Hopefully this will help those having issues with the radio.
I applied the OTA while rooted, and this issue appears to remain if my phone is rooted or unrooted.

This theory is very interesting and hopefully someone has a professional answer for this.
I'll try to see if I recognize any difference. I am using the Droid 3 in GSM Mode.

Try using JuiceDefender. I've been using that since I had my phone and it automagically manages my wifi/data connections, seems to settle it quite well for me.

After OTA 4.3 update Wii turning on and off

I just did the 4.3 OTA update and my WiFi keeps turning on and off on the phone. It loses connection and reconnects once a minute. Any ideas?

Took the OTA yesterday and I am not having that happen to me at all.
No issues here.
UPDATE:
Its not just my Wifi. Its the 3G too. All data drops out and connects again about once a minute. Spent an hour on the phone with Sprint. They tried everything including a wipe and hard software reset and still the issue is there. Only thing I can think of is that they snuck in some optimizing software or something. Either way, I now will need to go to a corporate sprint store. Really do not want to replace this phone that I have had for 27 days with a refurb, so any ideas will be welcomed.

I was having the same issue, do you live in an area with 4G? I don't and I think it was the cause. I think my phone was 'programmed' to think there was 4G around, but there wasn't. I kept seeing eHRPD under network info. I think it might be a 4.3 bug, bc I went back to Viper and it worked fine. Not really sure, but Amazon replaced my phone and now I'm scared to go back to 4.3 and get plagued with the bug again. I also think the new radio gave me issues, so I downgraded to the original radio also
This happened to me, it was a mixture of a damaged N antenna and bad sprint lte performance. Reverting to a g router fixed the problem for me. You should try a different router. Now fixing your regular signal, that's something you'll have a tough time with. I recommend you go to a sprint store and get a replacement asap though, my suggestion is not a fix, just a temporary measure. Curious, did you try the GPE rom by team nocturne? This issue started once I reverted from the TN GPE rom to stock. I think that rom may have damaged my radio/antenna. It's just a far fetched theory but plausible nonetheless. And a risk I took willingly, but still, I'm just curious to clarify if it was tinkering or sh*tty htc components.
I personally think it is just 4.3. I didn't have any issues with 4.1.2 with my WiFi or connectivity. I've even tested it and my WiFi drops like crazy only on 4.3 but is fine on 4.1.2, so I reverted back and haven't had any issues.

I found this just now.. towards the bottom there's a dialer code *#*#4636#*#* if you do that and change to gsm/wcdma/lte (something like that) it resolved my problem with 3G not working. Wifi might be my router
I have looked in the settings and sometimes the power saver will automatically shut 3G of it will not reconnect with a disconnected I switch to LTE / CDMA only have had no issues and also the wifi is meant to do that to conserve battery you should be able to disable the wifi in advance I'm not short just my thoughts

Idk. In 4.3 all my settings were correct (*#*#4636#*#*) and I turned all battery conservation off and my data (3g and WiFi) would cut out intermittently while I was using it. I've tried that on stock and all other 4.3 ROMs, I think it might just be my phone not liking 4.3, but YMMV. Stuck on 4.1.2 until I get the Note 3.
It's a power save feature if you have enabled Power Saver. Basically if you haven't used the connection in a while it turns it off until the next scheduled update check or your screen turns back on.
I have been having the same exact issue and it is driving me nuts. I have problems at home, work and anywhere else I use Wifi so it is not just one router. I have tried numerous 4.3 roms and was about to roll back to 4.1.2 to see if that fixes it.
Was starting to think that I was crazy, glad I saw this post!
I'd hate to be (just kidding, I love being) the smart alec here, but your post title says "Wii turning on and off." I clicked on this thread wondering how your phone update was turning your Wii on and off.
I'm having the same problem after the update. Wifi turns on n off, so will my 3g/4g while I'm using it. Didn't have this problem before the update so I doubt it's hardware related.

Same here. I assumed it had something to do with the fact that they're working on lte in my area.
UPDATE:
At work (50 minutes from home) the 3G and Wifi spots I try are working fine. No strobe connection. But at home both Wifi and 3G blink. I know they are working on the antenna near home, so it must be the issue. Have tried shutting off mobile data while on wifi, tried both wifi antennas at home, can't seem to get the strobe effect to go away.

Yes, I messed up typing Wifi. At least with Wii up there get grabs people's attention.

[Q] WiFi Bounce During Poor Cell Coverage

So I have noticed this problem since the 4.3 upgrades have been out and it continues through the 4.4.2.
I have this problem at home on WiFi, when I am at home I have terrible cell coverage usually bouncing between no coverage and one bar. It seems that when I am bouncing between no cell coverage and one bar my WiFi drops and immediately reconnects.
I had originally thought that my access point was the culprit as I hadn't noticed it happening when I dropped in and out of cell coverage. So I replaced my WiFi system as the one I was on was 8-10 years old. So upgraded to new hardware (WiFi) and tried both 2.4g and 5g and problem persisted.
I have used stock roms, and others, currently on ViperOne 5.8. I have updated to the most current firmware along the way, I even flashed a full RUU and started over last weekend. In addition I have this issue on all three devices in the house (all HTC One M7's).
So today I tried something I should have thought of sooner. I put the phone in airplane mode and then turned on WiFi and noticed that the problem went away, consistent WiFi, no WiFi drop, bounce, etc.
So anyone have an idea as to why this would happen and how I can solve it or is it something that is not solvable except by HTC/Google?
Thanks all.

I think this is an HTC bug. I've seen many users here complain of this on the Sprint model. I have the same issue as well. I have mine set so I can see if I am on 4G or 3G even while I am connected to WiFi. I notice this bug happens exclusively (and nearly every time) when the phone goes from 4G -> 3G.
I had a similar issue but when i updated radios it went away

I don't have 4G in my area so that isn't a factor for me but I can see potentially this happening between 2G and 3G and I am usually roaming here so that would make sense.
Thx.

Most of the people I've seen with this problem had it start with the latest radio or the one before it. The latest radio definitely does not fix it here.
This also happens to me at home while connected to my WiFi , really annoying ,or sometimes if I'm at work .no WiFi connection ,it'll show I have 3g but won't let me load pages.

I had that problem as well, I even called Sprint, and they sent me an Airave which is on it's way now. Yet, the tower near my house (6 miles away) was fixed-ish today and it stops that whole reconnect and disconnect garbage. Plus, I get lte in about 80% of my house. This wifi mess was going on since December and I put my phone on roaming most of the time to make it a little more stable.
Just reporting back. I reverted to the previous radio this morning and my connection seemed to stay on. Not sure if I'm trippin or if it really is working better .gomna test it out some more and flash the newest radio and check if there's a difference.

[Q] WiFi Freezing

Last week, I decided to finally unlock, root, and flash a custom ROM onto my Sprint HTC One. I started with the LiquidSmooth 3.0 Beta, which I really like, but encountered some issues with the WiFi connection.
Essentially, my WiFi connection will, at various times, stop working. When this happens, my phone still shows as being connected to the WiFi AP. Sometimes, I can get my data working again by turning WiFi off and then back on. Other times, after turning my WiFi off, it will refuse to connect to anything when I turn WiFi back on. At this point, I have to reboot my phone to get WiFi working again. Once, the WiFi started working again about 3-4 after I had noticed it wasn't working.
The WiFi generally seems to work best at home, where I have just 1 AP the phone connects to, though it will still sometimes freeze. It is much worse at work, where there are multiple APs as you move throughout the building. When the phone was using stock, the WiFi would usually take a minute or so to regain data when moving between different areas of the building, but now it usually just never regains connection. The notification will show that it is connected, but with 0 signal strength.
Looking around, I've seen that some other people have had similar situations. I tried the solution of renaming my device in the WiFi Direct settings. This seemed to make the WiFi work a little better at home, but no different at work. Some other people said they flashed a newer radio, but I seem to have the latest radio on my phone. And this issue is not related purely to LiquidSmooth. I tried out the SlimKat ROM and encountered the same WiFi problems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Q] Why am seeing network signal strength & Cellular Radios on in Airplane Mode?

So I am using a Nexus 6 on the Latest Tmo build (28E?) of Stock Rom and Stock Kernel Rooted, Encrypted.
Since the update that enabled wifi-calling for the N6 I have taken to setting my phone to airplane mode and turning on Wifi only to save battery since the signal at my house bounces back and forth from LTE to 3G and that murders my battery. Most of the time the signal strength graph shows blank and battery app correctly shows the cellular radios as having no on time. However, after being idle for a while (it would seem) the graph begins to show the signal strength as Red (no signal) and the cellular standby shows up in battery usage with the radios as being on (with no signal) and "active for a few seconds". Toggling airplane mode on and off usually restores them to showing up as off. Other times I never notice and it stays on for a few hours and goes back off on it's own. My main concern is that it seems to be activating the radio on it's own, my minor concern would be that my battery monitor app shows that it's using the battery. What could be causing this? I don't think it's a reporting glitch, because it shows up in both the system battery panel and a 3rd party one. If anyone has any thoughts or could point me towards a tool that could help me figure out what's turning on the radio when it's supposed to be off, please let me know. I've included photos from today showing what I'm talking about, the phone has been in airplane mode the whole time in these photos.
Thanks so much!
Kev
I think your issue is one of the reason why I cannot get Wifi Calling working at all. No matter what I do, my phone is holding onto a cellular network. Still trying to figure this out.

The best I can tell, "Android OS" is the only thing that shows any mobile packets sent or received so it's got to be a system thing.
If you have the myT-mobile app installed try uninstalling it I found that app totally screwed with my Nexus 6, turning WiFi on when I had no desire to use it.

Unfortunately that's not the fix. I don't have that app installed. Tmo is sending me a new SIM as I am also randomly having Wifi calling drop in and out even while my wifi is connected.
Does anyone know any app that would let me see specifically what app is engaging the mobile radio?

Note 5 Wifi Turning On/Off Intermittently

Hi,
My Note 5 (SM--N920W) recently started to switch Wifi, on/off intermittently. Sometimes, the Wifi stays on for 15/20 minutes (like when watching youtube) and some time it turns on/off continuously (mostly, when downloading a large file with a continuous stream of data). I can see that in the phone settings, the Wifi button goes grey (to off position automatically) and turns blue automatically & tries to connect to the router, sometimes it stays connected for some minutes and sometimes it's just instantaneous that it goes grey again (Wifi off). This keeps on repeating.
The phone is updated to Android 7 (official ROM) and has been reset and also tried all different settings like turning off location completely, disabling wifi scanning etc but that didn't help. Any idea what could be wrong? Also, the phone is locked to a carrier for which I don't have the sim anymore. I am not sure if running it without sim is causing this wifi issue.
Thanks! Any help is highly appreciated!
If you can try using a different wireless router or network, and see if the issue persists. I had a similar problem awhile back, except it only happened when Bluetooth was on. I ended up buying a new router instead of the one I was using from Comcast, and it resolved the problem! Also I've similar issues with other devices, and editing the build prop and changing ro.securestorage.support=true to false in /system/build.prop might help.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I'll look into secure storage flag, though it looks like this is for the rooted devices, mine does not seem to be rooted (I bought it online, not sure if that was rooted earlier or not).
Another behavior I have noted, that initially the wifi for first few minutes works ok, no drops or switching on/off. But then it starts to go nuts turning on/off continuously. I am not sure if its a hardware issue, that somehow the wifi module gets hot after a few minutes of usage and starts to malfunction. But I have read somewhere on this forum, that the BT & WIFI are on the same module on the motherboard if the BT runs fine (which it does on my Note5), WIFI as far as hardware is concerned should be OK.
I haven't tried any custom ROM (though tried downgrading to Android 6.1 - ROM from sam mobile) but that didn't work. Any idea, which custom ROM is most stable and easy to apply?
Thanks!
If your on a stock unrooted rom, I'd definitely try another router, even if your just connecting to a friend's. If it doesn't occur then, its the router. As far as custom roms, I'm running the Note fan edition port by RadeonMaya, and it works great.
