[Q]External USB Support - Motorola Droid Bionic

Is there anyway to get the phone to recognize a jump drive our external drive through USB? I know you can simply switch data through a computer to any of these but there are times when it would be nice to just plug a jump drive into the phone and move stuff

If you make a cable or hub. Need to ground pin 4 and get +5v dc on pin 1. I know there are some youtube videos of it with the ATRIX.

[Q] Cant connect to Computer

All was well, I could connect to my computer and go back and forth between ROMs but when I updated to Froyo, They phone could not connect to the computer, it will charge but wont copy files from sd card. USB debugging is on and I dont need the drivers because I am on mac, and it worked before, I cant even go back to stock, because the pc either, cannot find the phone. I have no warrenty because I bought it from Ebay, Help?
Assuming that you have the USB settings set to "Mass Storage":
After you connect it to the computer, you need to pull down the notification bar and select "Select to copy files to/from your computer", then follow the directions from there.
I know that!! Lol i do it all the time. It jusy doesnt work

are you using the same usb cable? some cheap cables are for charging only (like my bluetooth headset cable)
I tried my backflip cable

Which USB port are you connected to? Mine was flaky using the front USB ports on my computer. I moved my cable to the back of the computer and connected to a port directly off the MB. Since then, I haven't had a single problem. Just something to consider.

USB to micro-usb and full keyboard in webtop (hack) mode

Anyone know if this is possible? It would be cool to be able to carry say a soft silicon keyboard in my backpack or something.

yeah it is actually
just use an official or modified OTG micro usb cable and plug it in with the hdmi cable
have on hand a modified female to female usb connector ( I created one by cutting and splicing two ends off of old usb cords)
also on hand a powered usb hub can be usb powered with wall adapter or regular plug powered either way. but the power on the hub must first be modified check out youtube for how to modify usb hub to work on the atrix that is where I found it.
then connect the hub to power and the host end of the hub to one end of the female connector and the OTG usb to the other end and then the OTG usb to the phone
this may or may not be clear enough but I can assist you with any questions you may have about this tomorrow
Nice Ill check out the videos I would definitely like to have the hub you were talking about. Thank you ill let you know how I fare.

Powering external HDD OR Nexus 10+other USB device with external battery...?

This might be a bit of a tricky question...
I have this thing:
http://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc-12000...e=UTF8&qid=1371758929&sr=8-1&keywords=easyacc
And I would like to connect my 2.5" hdd to my Nexus 10. But even if I'll be able to connect it, I'm fairly certain it'll drain the battery veeery fast. Could I power either the hdd with a cable like this
http://www.amazon.com/OEM-UTStarcom...?ie=UTF8&qid=1371759016&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+y
or charge the nexus 10 while using the hdd if I connect both the external battery and the hdd to a usb hub like this http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...e=UTF8&qid=1371759098&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+hub and then obviously connecting the usb hub to the Nexus...
? I don't want to use an externally powered usb hub because I won't have access to a power outlet all the time.
Has anyone ever tried this? Can I ruin my device by playing around with plugging different things at once into it's usb port or is that safe?
Device is rooted if that matters.
I know this is primally not useful but try posting on reedit as well? Sorry but I don't have much knowledge in this area

[Q] Thumb Drive on my Droid 4

I have a Rooted Motorola Droid 4,running 4.1.2, and would like to be able to pop in USB thumb drives on the fly to transfer files and such. I have a Mini USB adapter to a regular USB and can physically plug it in my phone. But my phone won't recognize it. Is there an apk. or something special I need in order to do this?

How to power 1 terabyte external usb drive

I recently got a 1 terabyte usb 3 external hard drive. I want to use it directly on my note2 via otg to backup my files and free up space on my device and microsd while I am away from my pc. I noticed my battery gets discharged really fast from powering up the drive. I was wondering how I could provide an external power to the drive or the note 2 itself while the drive is connected to the note2 via otg. Thanks guys.
Zerolemom battery. Other than a bigger battery I dont know of a different way.

I've had a couple if external hard drives that have two usb connectors. I read somewhere that once the drive starts and spins up, you really only need one connection.
If thats the case, and you do have a two usb connection cable for that drive, you could maybe connect one to another power source (computer usb, wall adapter, etc).
Don't know if any of that will actually work, but the theory sounds good in my head.

I have an external hard drive also but my Note 2 doesn't recognize it as a memory drive. It's powered by an ac adaptor so I dont see why it won't establish a connection.

Thanks I'll try it tomorrow.
You can get a USB hub, and do some modification on it.
When I was using my nexus s, I do this:
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-advanced-usb-otg-nexus-4
Just Solider + & - input in your usb hub (input), power your external hard drive with your power bank... So it won't suck your battery
128Gig

I have mounted a 128Gig USB drive. No Problems! I will try to mount my 2Tb drive to my note via a Volcano external drive unit.

Same issue for me. It says blank memory device. I have a thermaltake 2 bay drive that is powered. I guess that it has to supply its own buss voltage. So much for the 2TB drive mounting.
Or you can get a powered USB Hub. So that the hub powers the HD and not your phone.
Something like this

Also pnce you get it powered up you might need to format it. I am unsure if this phone can read ntsf. Everything of mine is formatted to fat32 and exfat. So if you get it powered and it shows no memory or something it might be the format.

I do it all the time at work. A small usb hub that plugs into the wall for power will keep your phone from draining so fast.

I solved this issue by using Paragon exfat ntfs hfs from playstore.
The solution that comes to my mind is to just connect both devices to a computer, laptop, or netbook, open 2 windows and drag n drop.
But that powered hub does look like something fun to play with.
