[Q] Best MIUI Rom? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm a bit confused with the different types of MIUI roms floating around for the SGS.
Are they all basically the same or are some roms better then others?
For example between Galent and MIUI.us or Spasms MIUI kitchen.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

The Miui.us one is just stock Miui translated and with a few apps switched round, Spasms kitchen is as far as I know is stock with kernel/mod options and app options at the kitchen(quite handy). Galnet's is a lot more modified with fixes and custom framework etc which presumably make it faster. I usually find stock is fine unless you want that little extra speed.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Might try MIUI.us for a start and see how I go

Which Gingerbread for my Nexus - Please?

Hi,
i am new to Nexus One Android Development and i am a bit confused.
There are so many Gingerbread ROMs out there and i cannot decide.
I firstly wanted to install MoDaCos Sense Build but that is buggy for me - so now i want Gingerbread on my N1.
Unfortunately there are CM7 based/stock ones/google AOSP's/GRI40s/2.3.2's/2.2.3's/pure google mods/OFIICIALS/Devs onlys etc. - Versions!
Can anyone be so kind to filtrate that a bit?
This shouldn't be a "Best GB-BUILD"-Thread - I just want a clean and stable Gingerbread running with my purchased launcherpro plus!
I don't want it bleading edge, but fast and stable!
Which one of the thousands out there should i run on my N1?
Hi bunnahabhain,
I have tried various gingerbread roms, most have had some annoying bugs like hspda freezing, random FCs. The one that works the best for me is the CM7 RC2 which is the equivalent of Gingerbread 2.3.3. It is yet to bug out on me and it runs very smooth. In fact i havent had to restart the phone since I installed the rom. Surprisingly it also takes less space on the phone then most roms I've tried.
Hope this helps. It is bleeding edge but it is very smooth and hasn't been buggy at all for me.
I am using the stock gignerbread, with launcher pro plus/setcpu and automatic task killer.
It runs very well, no crashes, no bugs, it's fast, I sugest you do the same.
Add a poll to thread and list available options for people to vote?
DONE - 8 by number
just chose the most favorite ones
Stock/Official/Vanilla are the same. Just what the names suggest really.
Cyanogenmod is by far the most widely used custom ROM. Many of the others are based off this, with various alterations being made to them. Close to Stock appearance but feature filled and very fast. Version 7 is in development now and two of the polled ROMS are in fact from this development.
There have been two Release Candidates which are considered 'stable', and there are ongoing 'Nightly' builds, (experimental), but which are really just a daily evolution of the development. As it stands the latest Nightly builds are very stable, very fast and well worth trying.

No trackball wake on any Gingerbread ROMs derived from stock. No modification has been found to enable it.
On the other hand, they don't suffer from wonks like CM7 and any CM7-based ROM.
I was loving stock gingerbread but switched over to cm7 after missing trackball wake
MIUI gets Gingerbread on Friday, that will be my choice.
I am on pure googlemod now!
But don't think just that i chose a ROM that nobody voted for would leave this POLL ad absurdum
It seems that the base of that ROM is CM7-NIGHTLY, which is the thing to go for if you want more speed in the ROM with a custom kernel (otherwise no camera).
Because i wanted the stock GB style i firstly chose GEOs stock deodexed one, but switched after i got the mentioned camera probs.
Now, with redstars custom kernel it is the fastest ROM i have ever used on my N1 (42 Mflops in Linpack)
Unfortunately it is still miles away from this insane ROM for the HD2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899
You can't imagine how fast and stable that ROM is, really!
Since it is open source the N1 DEVs could look into the code couldn't they?
sense or nothing
I am on the Geo build but I am waiting for a Sense UI gingerbread release. I am following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445 but hoping Evil D can bring his magic to a GingerSense build
I've been using CM7 RC 2 after having been using enom's roms for froyo. It is pretty damn stable and lets you use trackball wake which lots of gingerbread roms don't support.

Roms: Continuous comparison of milestone roms and updates

Dear all,
In an attempt to organise the discussion, I have noticed that there are several threads aiming at discussing the best ROMS for the Milestone.
Some of us are using Shadowmod, Froyomod, CM7, CM6, Motofrenzy, GOT while some use Stock.
REQUEST 1: Each user, after updating to a new ROM/Nightly should state their ROM here, its version, and describe her/his own experience with the ROM.
REQUEST 2: If you have used more than one ROM, can you post comparisons of your experience with your ROM?
This should help in better understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each ROM and each nightly and even help developers of each ROM work together and exchange tips.
Thanks!
Also: CHECK THIS THREAD for links to ALL ROMS under development

My first post:
I am running Cm6 pre final. I removed facebook and Twitter and some other apps from system, installed them from market and moved them to SD. Not many mods, except heap size is 32, and no app2ext.
Very stable, very occasional reboots. Battery life is as expected, within standard cm6 range. Battery lasts 12 hours average, assuming you USE the phone and keep the display open significantly. Slightly laggy from time to time, but otherwise there is nothing to report except problems with languages that have a right-to-left orientation.
I love the mods. Just downloaded froyomod and considering a test drive for a day.
UPDATE > TESTING FROYOMOD 2.6.1.b
I just installed it, and am using it with basic settings. I only changed libwebcore.so with one that supports basic arabic reading in mail and web.
My general impression is that it is much faster and snappier, less laggy and generally lighter than CM6 Pre Final. Will keep testing it of course, but it generally seems to be a better ROM actually.
COME ON! )) WRITE your own REVIEWS of the ROMS YOU USE!
Best froyo atm is FroyoMOD 2.6.1 once the gps issue is sorted.
Best GB rom is Cronos 1.2.
But i am a stock rom person. I am at present using xt702 with arabic kernel, themed and a few mods by myself.

I have heard people talking about Cronos, but it doesn't seem to be as well-known as CM7. Is it faster or more stable?
I have used both FroyoMod 2.6.0 and CM7 RC4.1(current).
I find that CM7 is VERY polished. I had one reboot and it's been close to two weeks I've had CM7 on my phone.
With FroyoMod, I found that it was not as polished as CM7 and had some bugs, but it definitely seemed better optimized for the Milestone seeing as it's running Froyo.

Hey Saeen! here is not the place for this, but here you go Get libwebcore.so from the official 2.2 Arabic release or that file which has been online somewhere. Navigate to system/lib using root explorer, activate the permissions, paste it there to replace the current one (make a copy of the one there, just in case)., and reboot. You can read it Arabic, but it does not fix Right-to-left issues.
Well, i'am new here and i have an Motorola Milestone. I'am from Brazil so my english is kinda bad, but whatever. I'am running stock 2.2.1 from brasil, and my Milestone runs very smoothy! No FC or reboots for 1 week! Iam running it at 1ghz @62vsel. The brasilian official froyo mix motoblur elements with the original android, so the lockscreen for exemple is the same as the motoblur one, and the keyboard is the same as motoblur, the white keyboard. I'am making a video, when i upload i post it here

Miui 1.2.25
So I have found that MIUI 1.2.25 ROM from lalit79 to work the best for me.
The one thing that brings me back to it every time is its battery/power management plus it's fairly stable performance. Usability is the most important thing and I find its interface easy and speedy. Plus it comes with some great apps.
I have tried using the Gingerbread versions of it and they seem to be improving with each update however it is still lacking in the performance and stability of 1.2.25.
Other mods I have used are ShadowMod, Doshaka's CM6, Cronos and ofcourse the stock motorola.
All of which worked fine. However one problem i found across these roms was memory management. If I was using an intense application like angry birds and then revert back to the Home Screen I would find that all my icons would take a bit of time to load up. Only ROM where this has not happened is MIUI.
Hope my experiences help!
edit: I should also add that I use the old boot.img file in 1.2.25 as I experience random reboots if I do not. This applies to all mods mentioned above.
hey jumbz55, I had the same memory management issue as well with non stock ROM. So far I'm happy after reverting back to Eclair from Froyo, but this MIUI ROM that you mentioned interests me..
What MIUI ROM would you recommend? I'm sure there are many flavours out there. I need one with good memory management and of course care about the battery.

EXCELLENT WORK AS ALWAYS, Zeppelinrox
Roms I have once used:
5 in total
1. Froyomod 2.6.1/2.6/2.5
stability:
smoothness:
comment:
very nice with great memory management,
launcher seldom gets killed,
App2sd works well, the apps can be loaded quickly
Disadvantages:
GPS doesn't work
some demanding 3D games like NFS don't work (immediately get killed)
2.Shadowmod b3, b6
stability:
smoothness:
comments:
The best rom, thanks Edgard
app2sd works perfectly (after rebooting, the apps get loaded within 30s)
After playing 3d games like NFS, apps in apps drawer still need not be loaded again.
No laggy feeling (no kidding~!!!), launcher seldom gets killed but it can be loaded in no time.
3. Cronos gb 1.2
stability:
smoothness:
comments:
If u use app2sd, don't try this rom....
coz the apps reload frequently,
launcher always get killed after surfing internet, not to mention playing any games.
Overall, don't judge a rom's ability by just looking at its popularity in xda....
The most common;y used rom may not be the best one

[Q] Looking for a recommended rom

hi
a question for the experts:
im looking for a recommended rom, as fast as possible, including lagfix if needed. Especially when having lots fo apps.
It just that i got this annoying lags on my current Rom, and sometimes i got an annoying delay when hitting an app buttons, up to 3-4 sec.
There are so many roms so i'm a bit lost, and will appreciate if you could help me get the best rom that i'm looking for.
And one more thing if possible: I prefer a detailed HowTo installation guide as possible...
Thanks
if you want to stay close to the base rom... try a deodexed base rom with a kernel supporting lagfix like darkcore..
or try this link (a list of custom roms)
alchemistar.blogspot.com/2010/10/samsung-galaxy-s-custom-roms-list-1014.html
Personally i tried (and adopted) GingerReal :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025348
Already fast with just this rom. and after activating the voodoo lagfix with cwm it's really fast.
I have a very goo user experience with this rom. (looking forward to V7 (JVQ) that should go out tonight)
Go out to dev and explore, matter of taste/how you use your phone/your preferences......and each rom will have detailed install instructions....if not then pick the dev up on it. You will get as many answers as there are roms with this kind of question, and if your answer is......i haven't got time.....then stay with stock as you won't have time to sort any subsequent problems!
Insanity cm017/glitch v10c
MIUI Galnet V3...give it a try, you won't be disappointed...
i have 2 options for you
1- i tried many roms and i realized that Darky rom is awesome in performance and the team is really cooperating , wait for Darky v.10.2 i expect it come out soon , it will be perfect rom
2- different and fast rom Galnet " make you own iphone look on android galaxy " bring all what you wish , but stil have few defects but they make weekly developing , and v3 will come out tonight
Or CM7 - fastest ROM beside MIUI.

From my point of view, MIUI is really great in comparison to the original SGS mod. I'm using it and updating it every two weeks because of the updates it's providing us.
Well im usin F1 galaxy s2 rom it makes you feel like u are usin galaxy s2 and its fast without lagfix enabled.
My + its for Juwe's Smart Edition > v5.0 XXJVP .... Semaphore Kernel its in Rom and you can flash new v. with cwm ....
Rom its very stable , fast and very nice .... in my case - all works fine

I definitely recommend the Super Galaxy rom by socialsp!

what is the diffrence between MIUI and CM7 which is best and stable.

what is the diffrence between MIUI and CM7 which is best and stable, need your opinion.
From what I've seen, MIUI is organized like on the lines of iPhone UIs. Settings are all clubbed and sub-grouped into one place, you can go into select sub-group settings and so on. I find the UI controls very iPhonish.
MIUI comes with some good features like in-built Call Recorder, quick SMS reply from notifications.
One major difference between MIUI and CM7 is that MIUI by design does not have a App Drawer concept. All your apps in MIUI will show up on your phone screens.
Overall, both CM7 and MIUI have development builds available, you can use them and play around. Both will have some stable versions in case you are looking to get a stable ROM and not play around much.
I personally find MIUI very beautiful, but at the same time CM7 gives you more control on your phone.
Hope this helps you decide. I'd recommend you personally experience MIUI once for yourself.
Can you please give a link of OFFICIAL MIUI rom for o2x p990 and instruction to install it.. can i flash MIUI over CM7?
What do you mean official? I've used MIUI ROMs from this community:
http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/2-2-10-gb-ics.15342/
Its got a link for the latest 2.2.10 version for O2X.
You will preferably need a full factory wipe, you can also try Moon101's ROM (link below) from the development thread. Thats a trimmed down MIUI version that draws out good parts from CM7 plus his thread has good set of instructions as well.

2.2.10 is stable and battery life is pretty decent. If you need good battery life along with good performance, try the EtaNa kernel by vadonka. Search in the development forums
So i need to revert back to stock GB 2.3.4 before flashing MIUI?
or I can flash MIUI over CM7?
Sorry im quite confused
Nope you dont need to revert to stock. Do a facyory wipe and flash MIUI. Good luck. Dont forget to take a backup before you do the full wipe.

Best STOCK like rom?

I've went back to latest official ROM, 2.3.3 JVH NEE, released in Sweden by Samsung because I got tired to always hunt for the perfekt kernel and the perfect ROM.
Now I know why I started looking for other ROM's.. It's lags when playing musik via Spotify while you surf the net, slow over all respons in UI, I know it's slow due to RFS and I've converted to EXT4, but I'm not fully satisfied.
I want a as near STOCK ROM att possible and stable as original (Yes, the latest Swedish ROM, 2.3.3 JVH, is the most stable ROM I've used and got the best battery time, even tho it's slow.).
Does you know of any ROM that meet these requirements? I would like to not feel the difference if I rebooted my phone yesterday or two weeks ago.

I would recommend you to try SAUROM JVU ROM. It's almost close to stock with huge loads of modifications integrated.
Yes, I would also go for SAUROM if it comes for a close to stock GB ROM. One of the benefits it has over many other Samsung-based ROMs is the integration of JKAY Mod that allows you to customize status bar buttons and power menu. Plus in the newest version it has some handy quick link buttons in the notification drawer.
Thank you guys, I'll take a look at Saurom.
___SAUROM___
I've also tried so many diff ROMs.
All I really wanted is nice working stock ROM.
Tried so many. Did not try SAUROM, cause this is a new one, but tried many SAUROM like. I mean ROMS, that claim that they are just like the stock, but better.
CM was fine, but it was also very complicated. And had some bugs.
Really stupid. I could not sync with google e.g.
Finally I ended up with MIUI. Surprisingly for myself.
Clean, nice, fast, easy swype customization and install.
Here are some screens:
http://db.tt/0gh5gInG
MIUI+Go launcher
It works fast, no lags, no freezes, nothing bad.
GSM works fine, GPS is super fast and accurate, battery is OK.
Finally I don't need to tweak my phone any more.

MIUI & Cyanogen are the real custom ROMS. All the rest are stock-based with tweaks and customization. Saurom is highly customizable compared to the other stock based. But if this doesn't matter to you, you can try Darky's latest ROM from his website. I currently use MIUI Rom, you can try the MINTBerry edition (Which I use ), available on the forum. And I would go for Saurom regarding stock based. Good Luck.

Nightly build still updated, real AOSP, less lag than stock, massive possibilities for customizations.
I've had JVH for some time, later JVU, now latest CM7.2 RC0 with CM7 kernel.
Changed to JVO modem (siky_dude has links to many flashable modems) to fix Hello-Hello-Bug. Better than JVK modem.
T9 dialer, better UI translation than JVU even for Norwegian, native keyboard support nor. + swe. + +
Don't flash each nightly (stress battery time?) but check changelog for interesting fixes. Most of the fixes are not even notable in every day use. Flashing new nightly WILL keep ALL settings, market apps, sms, data... Just clear cache/dalvik/prior flashing, fix permission post flashing.
BTW: ALL ROMs have some lag

Thanks for all your support.

Btw. Tried both the f1 and surface (like f1). Managed to **** up each in less than 2 weeks. Darky ROM was easy. Destroyed it in one week

I've been using the MIUI mintberry for a few weeks and it's so frickin' amazing. First impression was "oh this is beautiful" then i noticed it was fast. Few days passed and the battery life seemed great. I did some benchmarks and surprised by the results.
I would highly recommend for you to try that one!
Cheers
I'd go for DarkyRom... It worked pretty well for me, bur then I discovered MIUI Roms and they are much better!!
DarkyRom isnt a fully custom Rom. Its a stock samsung edited. There are only 2 custom gb roms. MIUI and Cyanogenmod7 and they run much faster ofcourse. Im a CM fan either way
