Planning to buy a new phone..pls help - Off-topic

Hello guys!
I currently have the LG optimus one, and am looking to buy a new phone. Im torn apart between the SE xperia mini pro(not the x10 mini pro) and the Moto Defy.
Ive used my O1 for a year, right from the early days (when mik gave us his 1st touch-bug free kernel). I wont be selling it off though so I'll still be regular on this forum
Now Pls help me decide between the 2 phones.
On one hand theres the big screen on the defy and on the other theres the hw keypad and the 1Ghz procy :|
My doubts are:
How do the 2 CPUs and GPUs fare against each other?
Is Defy gonna have much prolonged support since its already over a year old.?

The Motorola defy looks to be a solid phone with good support so I would get that. I also jumped ship and ordered a MyTouch 4g.

[Question] What phone should I change to?

The title says it all, what phone should I change to?
Can change in March as my plan allows me to change every one year. No idea what phone to change to. Budget is of course lower than the S II.
Look for any phone offered that is confirmed to have ics support, that has a decent cpu clock speed.
The xperia line is getting cheaper in singapore.
Maybe an lg optimus 2x its far less money, but not a million miles from the s2. Large screen, dual core and official miui.us and cm7 support. There going for nearly half the cost of an s2, so you should get it free. Not a bad looker ether.

Perhaps a Galaxy R might fit your bill
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
LG Optimus 2x maybe??I love that phone and is planning on buying it..
Otherwise, you could go for Galaxy W,but its not dual core
If it were me i would stay with samsung, theyve seemed much more reliable and value for money than other brands ive tried (huawei u8220 + u8110) however those phones are pretty old now, so the newer budget phones from huawei may be pretty good
What about SE Xperia Neo V??
It'll get ICS too ??
depends upon your minimum requirements too...also if u can wait a bit more sony will be launching some good phones shortly in different price ranges

What will be your next phone after the O2x?

Hey, just wanna know what your replacement will be.
Mine will be the sgs3. well dev support for this phone is highly supported and updates are seeding regularly. I am really disappointed for lg's lack of support for this phone i mean we've been waiting for the ics upgrade for months and still none. then jb came out, still no ics. what gives?
So, what will it be?
Very hard decision. I don't like the cover of the sgs3 and the HTC One X and LG Optimus 4X HD have Nvidia chipsets, so I think I won't buy any of these phones.
First, I wait for a new Nexus phone, because I like the instant updates.
First of all let we have ICS, replacing 2x w/o ICS upgrade is too early decision

Yes. I'll also wait for ICS update and 4.1 custom roms.

Okay, maybe i'll wait for the ics upgrade maybe it'll be worth the wait with HW acceleration and all.
P.S. I use your kernel and all I can say is BUTTER! It's super snappy and zero lag and good battery life. Keep it up!
when i will eventually get another phone it will be a nexus.
Some Nexus, but not now, maybe next year.
Guys how about lg optimus l7...it's cheap and looks awesome with ics...
The nex(t)us.
Never ever going to purchase a LG product again. Same counts for Nvidia.

I'll be waiting for Cortex-A15 processors to come out. My contract expires in April 2013, hopefully by then we'll see a couple of phones with those processors.
Nexus.
If they don;pt hurry up with ICS for the 2x I'll get a nexus 7 soon and just tether it to the 2x.
Will wait for ICS upgrade.Till now the xda developers community had done an awesome job with GB.Love to fell the ICS on O2x tweaked by them:cyclops:.If LG decides to abandon O2x after delivering ICS update then no LG for me.Will discourage all possible buyers for LG products.Next device will obviously be Google nexus at least updates will be on time:laugh:.

Purchased this phone with high hopes just after its launch ignoring sgs2. But then LG has not handled its the then flagship mobile FIRST DUAL CORE IN THE MOBILE WORLD effectively. Whereas Samsung has given timely updates to the contemporary and parallel SGS2, LG has made a mess of it. Not only phone, LG's PC suite is the worst I have ever handled. In fact many of us including myself bricked my phone while taking official updates. Its for all these brilliant XDA DEV developers and Paul O'Brien from MODACO we are able to get the money's worth.
Doesn't know what I will buy next but not LG. But I have seen almost all the companies making this sort of mess with one or two of their models..Greatest among those were SE Xperia X10 which even had the bootloader locked. The strong developer community here took up the challenge and everyone of XDA knows what height they took Xperia X10 upto. Its really great for us that this community still exists and that too for free gives support to so many phones. Even my Xperia x10 mini which Sony ditched after 2.1 can now run Jellybean. Thanks again to all the Devs and contributors of xda developers once again.
If i was about to buy a new smartphone nowadays, I would prefer the Htc one S..very nice performance, if you don't mind the
smaller screen (4.2 or 4.3, don't remember now) and the supposely 'old dualcore cpu'. I was impressed by the benchmark tests I saw, even higher than the new quad core phones.

I bought myself a cheap Galaxy Nexus to replace my 1 year old O2X - it was just too tempting with the Jelly Bean release. But I will definately be looking at the next lineup supported by Google.
One thing is certain, I will never buy another phone from LG - their support and software for the O2X was a joke, I really hope they get their **** together soon (for everyone unfortunate enough to end up with one of their products).
Has anyone considered the HUAWEI line-up??
They are fairly cheap, good hardware and screens, incredible software support and , in my modest opinion, a very attractive design.
Look at where HUAWEI are present in modern communication technology today!!
They are all over, but covered by others facade.
Now they want to come out in the open and dont want to fail.
I bought the HUAWEI Honor for my mother, 70 years of age, and I am almost envious of that device. She loves it and uses it for everything!!
Despite all the software shortcomings of LG, I consider the O4X a very worthy replacement of my O2X, if I were to replace it right now

Buying a Razr phone.

Hey guys,
Having a Defy for 2 years now, gives me the opportunity to get a new phone. Not wanting a Iphone or sgs3, simply because they are TO mainstream (no hipster) and the sgs is ugly as fck. The razr i cought my eye. Not only because of its look but alsofl because of its hardware. Only I had a problem with my defy, I am affraid of to have with this device too. Motorola makes awefull roms and kernels. I saw how on stock rom the razr i got owned Buys the sgs3 simply because of the rom. The performance made by Samsung is mostly because of the rom. But the moto users are do damn lucky with the community. I remeber Quarx giving the defy an icredible boost. So I was wondering: is it worth it to buy a razr i or razr hd? And will we get eventualy good working roms that will peform as good as the sgs3? And which phone is better: the razr i or razr hd (i prefere Intel dat_fanboy)? Thanks in advance
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
I'm also interested in the responses this thread might get. I'm currently a Defy owner, and I'm also looking forwards the Razr i as my next phone (The battery duration and Intel's chip got to me, and here in Argentina, the phone is currently on presale). I'm wondering what led to the current owners to purchase the I instead of the m or hd, and if their expectations were fulfilled so far.
I don't have the choice of the M here but I chose to buy this device instead of waiting for the HD because I loved the georgous edge-to-edge screen and the design overall and because I'm a Motorola fanboy. But the phone even lifted my expectations: I got superb battery life, great performance and yes the screen really is a beauty.
Definetly worth the buy, you won't be disappointed at all!

Camera is good with official ROM, not so good with CM based ROMS.
Rather see if you can get Nexus 4. It's in your price range (actually depends on where you are, availability and price differs from country to country) and much better than all your options your considering.
http://www.google.co.za/nexus/4/
Most of those phones you are considering have been on the market a while and the older the device the smaller the community and slower the development gets as people get newer phones. If I had to choose one of them I'd choose the One S, no questions asked. Much faster than the competition, has official JB and is still fairly new.
F*ck Samsung .
Buy Acer cloudmobile s500.
Low-price and high performance... just perfect .
HTC One S no doubt
best dual core, i mean..... cortex a15...maaannn.....that was fast........

Why should I buy an unkown brand in the smartphone community? And I thoguht Sasmung is known for his good wuality cameras / phones
It has been a very good phone for me you know. It has been with me for about one and a half years and it has come over a car crash, fallen into a pool, dropped a lot of times and in one of those it fell from a 1st floor directly to the ground. I had to change the gorilla glass screen which was about 30 us dollars. It has been an adventure and it continues. Camera is not the best but as any other bad mobile camera, it takes very good full light photos. There is still a hell of a development going on. It is just as fast as 80% of optimus 2x stock if you are running zeus rom with cpu at 1350Mhz. Screen has enough brightness, everything is big and legible and we are having official stock ICS modded in some days, actually now. What else can i say? I am not marketing this phone but it is a good buy. If you are looking for a fond working phone this might be your choice, believe me. If you are looking for a fast like hell phone just dont look for LG OB. Hope Ive helped.
PS: getting a GS2 wont hurt...

Sorry to hear that. It went for alot cheaper in some countries.
Desire X is a good choice HW wise. Not as good as the One S, but cheaper and doesn't have as big a screen. (The One S's graphics Chipset will run circles around all the other phones even the SGS2).
If you want a good community, look at previous flagship phones or really good for it's price phones of well known brands (Unknown brands tend to have much smaller communities).
This phone actually has a large Chinese community that doesn't interact with this forum much. I think I'm missing our sometimes since Google Translate can only do so much.
If you can afford it I would go for the One S.
Your Xperia Pro is on par with most of the other phones and I wouldn't pay money to get another similar phone. I don't think a upgrade is necessary actually.
I told ya.. best performance at that price :good: .
It`s released in September 2012, I guess that`s why there`s no developing topic in this community.
I guess they`ll add it to XDA soon, cause it`s a cool phone .
And it`s f*cking better than S2 .

High-end.If you don't mind waiting you could see if the Acer's development picks up before making your final choice.
When buying a phone second hand make sure it hasn't been tinkered and OC'ed and with HTC make sure it's still S-ON that way you know it hasn't been tinkered with.

Yes. I'm not sorry about it, but it's getting old. Quite a few great devs moved on already. Theres still plenty of skill and commitment here though and we might be getting official CM10.1 soon (G+ pictures from official dev has already been posted, but no nightlies appeared yet).
Lol....
No guys, its not the Htc one S.
I went back to Xperia P, again.Yes, first time I got it on summer but traded it for Xperia Pro. Now 4 months without smartphone and of research.. I REALLY regret I was so stupid! [at that time there wasnt any development]
I mean 8mp camera, dual core and handsome: the perfect phone!
Only thing is battery, isnt it replaceble with a 1750 li-on??

Why did you get the Desire C?

Just curious why those here chose this phone. And which phone did you come from? Was it the price? Carrier? Size? Just genuinely curious. I've even thought of getting one myself to play around with which is why I'm here.
Well yes price was definitely the thing to consider. When I bought this phone, I had very little knowledge of android. I just went with the intention of buying a phone around 11k Rupees. I looked at everything (even blackberry!!). Every phone had its pros and cons. I was a little wary about the 600Mhz processor but then this was the only one with ICS pre-installed. I even considered Micromax Canvas 2 (Indian Brand) but I rejected that because the screen was too big. Specs-wise it would beat the crap out of desire C with a lesser price tag. I wasn't even remotely thinking about rooting at that time Then finally I decided to go with this. Now after all this time, I'm really happy with this phone and I consider myself lucky that I stumbled upon this wonderful site called XDA. If it wasn't for Xda, I would still be thinking. "What if I had bought another phone?"
For me it was either a galaxy ace or desire c...
i buy it for used only at work !
It was between the desire c and Samsung galaxy Q (Canada only) for me. Then I face palmed when the galaxy ace 2X came (Canada only) because it was AMAZING and I would have got it if I waited like 3 more weeks before buying a phone. (The ace 2X is what SeannyM bought , he Canadian like me )

my choice was dito same
Changed my choice at the last momrnt when came to know desirec is shipped with ics
My defy mini needed fixing so wanted a cheap temp phone. Desire c or galaxy ace...tried galaxy ace and it was poo and broke in 1 week so reluctantly got the desire c.
Really like it. With cm10 and a few tweaks it just works. Use this as my main now.
i bought nexus 7 tablet so i don't need high-end cellphone
and before desire c i had xperia sola, arc s, htc hd2, incredible s, iphone 3gs, and more
The main reason for me was the small price tag.I got it for 160€ which was the highest price I could pay :S
The second reason was the small size (yes, the fact that all mobilephones are getting bigger and bigger is really grinding my gears) and there were roms (which weren't that good as I thought)
I came from an old Sony Ericsson Cedar which was my escape from my ****ty Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. But the Desire C really didn't dissapoint me
For me it was build quality, screen size (4" display devicers are just to bulky for me to carry around) low-ish price tag, and of course vast support on this exceptional community! I didn't even bother to buy sim-free one, got it locked to another carrier on a discount, unlocked it in a jiffy.
Went straight ahead and picked custom rom for it, Sensational V3 from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320080 and flavored it with an 800 Mhz Prometheus kernel.
I must say I'm impressed! Coming from galaxy 5, on which plethora of various roms were installed, this one is truly a wonderful piece of work.:highfive:
In fact, I was so darn impressed, that I've finally decided to register on the board, after lurking around for years..
I really like this phone but it is just not enough for me!( going for a. N4)

Only good thing about it is the price. I used the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2x and there was lag everywhere. Unlocking the home screen, opening system apps, even the settings were laggy! The cameras are decent, and the 4in screen is OK. I would have chosen the Desire C over the Sammy because of its build quality and its community. I knew that the Sammy was sold in select countries so it wouldn't be supported by XDA, unlike the Desire C. Its what I look for in phones now lol

this is my first smartphone, I'm a PC Mobile pay as you go user. My flip phone died after 4 years of use. When I went to the local PC Mobile store this phone was on for $59.90, the Samsung Flip was $49.95, for $10 more I thought I could not pass this one up. There is no contract or commitment on the pay as you go.
