Would using ODIN to flash back to stock and using the Master Clear remove root?

ODIN back to stock will remove everything and put it back to the state that the phone was in when you took it out of the box. You will, however, still have some file system stuff hanging around from before. You'd have to clear your SD card of that information. But you should be unrooted and back to normal.
So if I were to use ODIN, could I still use Titanium Backup to get all my apps and games back? Because I want to go back to stock without root, but still have my apps and the info for them too.
nope - titanium backup needs root to work
Why the concern about root?
I just feel like going back to stock for a while, no real reason.

Unless you've really made some major changes, i.e. new ROM, Kernal, radio, you are at stock. You could just flash to stock, root, re-apply through TB and you still are at the base of the phone settings.
So TB will still have my stuff even if I do the flash? Or do I need to save the backup to my computer?

Save back up to your computer if you are going to master clear. If just odin flash not necessary
If you're still wondering about this, I unrooted using the root file found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Then, I unrooted using the unroot.zip file found in the Galaxy one click root/unroot rar file. In both cases, you copy the file to your phone's root directory and then rename it to update.zip and follow the procedures in the thread linked above. Linke for the galaxy one click root/unroot is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304&highlight=root/unroot
Follow this link: http://www.psouza4.com/Droid3/PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.05.zip
Download the Pete Motorola Tools, this now has an option to unroot, as well as root again if you need it
NOTE: Do not use "restore /system/app" It is *only* for the Droid 3.
NOTE #2: This does not restore renamed/deleted apps. If you want to return it to complete stock, re-add or re-rename the app you deleted or renamed before unrooting.
Again, we still have no SBF, so all returning to stock methods will have to be manual for now.
Excellent thanks for this
is this a temporary make shift unroot method? or a fully functional....as if we had an SBF file type unrooting.
It's makeshift in the fact that it's not a complete system restore, as explained above. For that, we'll need a full SBF.
So in other words, the Verizon warranty is still void. I feel like this is the main reason why people un-root.

If you haven't *deleted* anything, or if you un-freeze everything *before* you un-root, then it will bring your phone to complete stock. What this doesn't do is restore your system if you've deleted or frozen apps. All of these precautions must be taken *before* un-rooting.
Once that's taken care of, un-rooting will bring your phone back to how it was before it was rooted and hence, your warranty will be back in tact (for all the Verizon reps know, technically your warranty is still void)
Does anyone have a list if stock apps? I know I deleted Kindle, NFL, & Blockbuster. But I cannot remember what else I may have deleted. {{YIKES}}

Does anybody know how to restore "Guided Tours 2.3.4". I made a backup of this app, but now it won't restore in TB. It just hangs. I've tried restoring as just the app, and with app and data.
Any info is appreciated.
will this stop my Bionic from boot looping on start up? all i did is root so i can restore my Apps. i didnt even do data just the apps and when phone reboots its nightmarish string of boot loops till i factory wipe. i have no clue why its doing it. 3 days of hell for me.

Let me know if this is correct. If I remove apps, then un root. can I re root, replace apps, then un root again to be back to stock?
Thanks in advance if anyone knows for sure.
Does this work on Windows XP? Pete's Root Tools are listed under Windows 7.
I see this is an old thread. I need to unroot to return to Verizon. I rooted .902 with Motofail and wondering if I could use Pete's to unroot. No apps removed just froze. I need to send this back tomorrow. Thank You

I went and rooted my droid 4, and without knowing about safestrap, i started backing up and deleting apps with the free version of Titanium Backup. I now have a couple of apps that will not restore back into place, and i am unable to perform the upgrade. Since then, i have installed safestrap, and attempted to flash the rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508341, but all i do is bootloop on my safe system. Any idea what i can do to fix the unsafe side so i can apply the 219 update? Am i kinda out of luck until the fastboot files are released?
try asking here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=565
this forum is nearly dead, like 5 people a day visit here, very few people have a droid 4
i wish i could help more, but im not very good at this, but there are more people there that could help
What I'd do is download the stock recovery files that Hashcode has put up, and make sure you have anything you want backed up, and try advanced restore and flash all 3 options. As for the boot loop, did you try to clear cache and dalvik cache?
Are you referring to the [SAFESTRAP ROM] Stock MotoBlur 6.13.215 for Droid 4 at droidforums (forum won't let me post link) for hashcode's stock recovery? Or do you mean simply uninstalling the safestrap recovery from the safestrap app? I haven't played much with the stock recovery, so i'm not sure what 3 options you are referring to.
As far as the safe side, i wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache in the advanced menu, and done a factory reset... still bootloops...

I am having the same issue. I was recommended to unzip the stock rom posted and attempt either a direct or adb push install of those apk's that are missing. Someone did this one by one and was successful in installing the 219 update.
You could attempt to install the stock rom through safestrap to get the update. please make sure that you are at full 100% charge as most roms wont flash correctly with less. I recommend getting full charge and flashing while still plugged in.
Hey guys, so what exactly is going on? You are missing apks on your main system, and your safe system bootloops?
So, your primary system functions, it just is missing bloatware, preventing you from updating? I just want to be sure I understand before making a recommendation.
Welp, i got some good news, i got the main system fixed and then updated. I took a stock 215 rom, extracted the /system/app folder and the system/build.prop to the sd card. Then i simply copied the contents of that folder into the /system/app on the root of the system with a file manager (used estrong's, other file managers that support root should work.), copied the build.prop to /system, and then did the update OTA. I lost safestrap and root, but i was able to reroot with moto fail... i have not tried reinstalling safestrap yet, nor have i mess with the bloatware like i did last time.

I sort of did the same thing. I downloaded the rooted stock from and unzipped it. I then rebooted and manually tried to install the update and noted what files needed to be restored and then I coped them to dropbox then moved them to /system/app and it worked
I attempted to move the files but got an error when doing so saying I could not move them to the folder. The only file I seem to be getting the error with is backupassistantclient.apk but that might be because it is getting to that first and erroring out. Does Astro not support root to ove the files in /system, etc?

Why don't you just flash it back to stock instead of messing it up more. I got a thread up here on our to do that.
I was playing once like that with the Nook Tablet. It took me 3 weeks to fix it. I hope you don't fall under the same crap with your phone

Before updating to jb read the forums. We have no actual jb root so you have to preserve your root during the update.

Yes and No.
Yes, if he flashes JB, he'll be stuck as flashing back will brick your device. Root or No Root that will happen.
No, If he backs up root using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper method me and several other people used to keep root, he could still have root on JB.

Are you using a laptop by chance? My laptop wouldnt recognize mine. I had to use a desktop to flash via RSD.
Also, having root won't keep you from updating. I backed up with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and flashed the update just fine. Then I restored root on JB. The deleted apps are the only thing stopping the update.

Just follow the directions carefully after the utility to retain root then update to jb via the unofficial zip then you can do batakang

safestrap it, make a slot1, then flash the stock JB411 rooted rom found on this board.
make a backup
then restore that backup to the stock slot.
problem solved, still rooted.
He already got it covered man.

I have a VZW 16GB Moto X currently rooted and safestrap installed, I keep defering the update since I don't want to lose root and am pretty sure it will fail since stock recovery is gone.
What are my options to either get the OTA with root or disabling the update notification?
I am not 100% sure i want to dive into an SS ROM nor is there really anything out there.
Just trying to figure out what I should do / what everyone else is doing.

I would get the OTA with root. The camera and phone call difference really do show in my opinion.
To keep your root I would rsd back to stock. Download pwnmymoto and install it BUT don't run it. Just have it installed. Then update. After the update you can run pwnmymoto and you'll have root with the OTA. Jcase said this is the correct way to do it.

I will consider doing that, it's just a giant PITA since I will have start from scratch.. Coming from the S III and flashing a new ROM every day this is so different to me lol. There is nothing wrong with the stock ROM just regretting not waiting for the dev edition to be honest.. I still use my S III as a media player and lately have been thinking of switching back, just hoping we get 4.4 soon or something to make it a bit better.
I know safe strap is another option but haven't heard great things about it and back in the droid 3 days remembered using it.
Just backup your apps and restore after you're rooted again. No starting from scratch necessary. I used titanium backup and didn't have any issues.

fyi. if you are on vzw then SS is an easy fix for you. The "not great things" you heard were just posts from when SS was having some problems. I have SS up and running with the new rom for vzw in a rom slot and flashed the new radios and everything is working perfectly. No problems for me at all. Also, tibu is really easy to use and will restore system data, your launcher and anything you want. Very minor things that you will need to screw with after using it. Takes about an hour and a half if you need to do things to your system after you start using the new rom. If you don't need to make any of those edits then it really only takes about 30 mins from installing SS to having the new rom running with all your settings and apps.

if you are worried about space then just flash it to the stock rom. I have plenty of space. with 500 photos on it. I don't use music though. You don't have to rsd to get the ota. You can just flash the recovery.img if you didn't touch the system or flash the system.img as well if you need to using fastboot. Take some time to learn what fastboot and adb are and how to use them and you will be happy you did. Doesn't take much time at all. They are kind of the same thing, how they work at least.
Use fastboot when in fastboot mode. Use adb when the phone is just on normally. Then run appropriate commands. "adb reboot" "fastboot reboot"
here is a link on how to use adb and if you go through it and understand everything then you will also understand fastboot and fastboot will already be installed as well). Then you can take the ota without losing data and having to use RSD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872128
As for the new radios, you will need to use fastboot. you flash the non-hlos.bin then erase modemst1 and modemst2 then flash the fsg.mbn. if you want help with it just send me a pm

Also could I restore my stock ROM to a ROM Slot on SS and then flash the OTA ROM over it?
This would not require TiBu or anything like that..

Not sure bit if your on a slot it shouldn't hurt to try. I'd make a backup and put it on PC or the cloud to be safe.
