[Q] remap keyboard on Steeldroid v3 - Motorola Droid 3

Hi,
I've remapped my keyboard on original motorola rom using an hexeditor and changed in the cdma_solana-keypad.kcm.bin.
However going to steeldroid v3.0 i tried to do the same thing, but it does not work. Seems that it is using another keychar?
Located in System -> usr -> keychars
Any idea?
EDIT: found the file...its omap-keypad.kcm.bin
Another question then...I've mapped away 890 to get åäö, but in the dialer 890 is interpreted as characters....any workaround?

[Q] Installing HTC_IME v27 theme on Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0?

I generated a new custom theme from gimpsta, using v27-froyo high res. (this is for my rooted sprint evo, running Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0)
When i open the file in Astro, the file indicates that the same version is already isntalled (v.27). When I press launch, i get the following message "Activity Not Found - Jonasl.ime". If i try to UnInstall it says "uninstall not succesful".
I've tried loading this app a number of other ways, including deleting the HTC_IME.apk from /system/app folder.
I think the problem is due to the fact that the keyboard is baked into the rom, but i don't know how to re-install or install over this. Any help is appreciated.
I just flashed the keyboard while it was still in its .zip file before extracting it and it replaced the v27 high res that came with the rom... but you should try the Droid x themed kb ... by far the best kb i used so far...
Im running Fresh 3.2 with Netarchy's 4.1.8 cfs... loving it

[Q] Better Keyboard

So I just installed better keyboard and I went to enable it and Im getting a message that says "This input method may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers. It comes from the application Better Keyboards. Use this input method?"
Should this be something I should be worried about?
No. That is the standard Android warning when installing any keyboard.
Anyone know if Swype is working on here yet?
Can't get alternate keyboard to enable
After I get an alternate keyboard installed, I can't get the checkbox to enable. I get the warning described above but then the keyboard doesn't enable and doesn't appear as a choice when you do the long press and select input method.
I have the same problem with an IME for pen reader. the main justifyer for me to purchase this tablet was to take notes at work but I can't get teh app to work... I am just waiting for 3.0 and hoping that it will evolve...

I was able to get SlideIt to work by installing it and then copying the apk file from /data/app and pasting it in /system/app. Then make sure to Mount R/W in the system folder and change permissions of the copied apk so that User is read/write and Group, Others is read only. Mount R/O. Now reboot. It should work now.
I am using TnT 2.2. There shouldn't be any need to enable it in the settings either. It will act like a system keyboard and will always be enabled. All you have to do is change input method by long tapping on a text box and selecting the newly installed keyboard.
I have tried this with a couple of other keyboards and it didn't work. Swype just says that it won't work with the screen size of the device.
I read this in another thread somewhere here. I can't take credit for this. Hope this helps.

I'm running the stock rom with the TNT enhancement pack. The strange thing is that I can't even find the downloaded apk file for the keyboard. When I go to the data folder in iFileManager, it is blank. What am I doing wrong?

From what I can tell, ES File Explorer can't see stuff in /data unless it is started AFTER the phone is rooted. Maybe the same goes for iFileManager.
So what I do is use z4root to get temporary root, kill ES File Explorer, then start ES File Explorer again. Then it can see /data.
Hope that this helps.

I use Root Explorer and I have no problems seeing any files at all.

[Q] How to get Kaiser with Nordic keyboard mappings corrent?

I have looked around and cold not see an answer (maybe I am blind?)
I have the HTC Tilt (Not AT&T branded), with Nordic Keyboard.
I have flashed the BootLoader and am now running the ultimate droid Android on Froyo. It's awesome, but the physical keyboard mappings are incorrect, and it's driving me nuts ..
In the BootLoader flash I made sure that the keyboard setting was set to nordic (even opened the file in hex-edit), flashed it twice.
ANyone know how why this is not working?> is it froyo related>?
I's kernel related.
Use atools to change physical keyboard mappings.

I have tried this, and even though I select Nordic layout and save, check the NBH file with hexeditor (it's set to nordic) it still does not map.
I am using Froyou Kernel..
kernel related or?
I just tested this yesterday and I believe there seems to be some kind of bug because I am experiencing the same difficulty as the creator of this thread.
I choose nordic in Atools and create my nbh file but it simply doesn't turn out to be nordic whenever I use æøå (special characters)
I read another old thread (2009) about somebody changing the physical keyboard mapping by editing the file
"/system/usr/qwerty.kl"
so that it would fit the specific layout of that phone, but seeing the comment above and using Atools don't seem to match up with the way this thread was dealing with the problem.
But my question is what to do now? I would very much appreciate some kind of way to solve the problem without having to hold down the a-button to get a å or the o-button to get a ø and so on.
Is this something that can be solved by editing some system files, then I am all ready to dig in.
Thankyou

I checked my nbh file and it shows up with the correct number "2" for nordic in the hexeditor and just as supposed this grants me "nordic" keyboard except I can't use any special characters.
Most of the keyboard is correct including all the alt-keys, but I am still missing æøå which has been my problem all along..
Maybe it isn't an issue with the kernel but has to do with the specific flavor of Android that I am running?
I am running: Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS15] [9/3/10] with "module update" via "atools"
I will test other flavors as of now.
Fat Free Froyo [ALL LANG-ODEX] 11/10 has exactly the same issues. I don't think this has to do with this.
If someone could guide me, please..
Firstly, is it "truly" a Nordic keyboard we're talking about here, or is it a Tilt with the letters changed?
The one thing you haven't stated is if you have tried the "system_froyo_odex_all" file from SourceForge, as this would have the correct fonts already installed in the build.
If the keyboard is a normal Tilt keyboard, select "Tilt" in ATools and set the phone up as "Nordic" under "Settings/Language & Keyboard/Select Language". This may be all you'll have to do.
Okay well my bad I guess I will try it out in just a minute.
This is my exact keyboard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469028
I don't believe that is a "Tilt"-keyboard, but I might be mistaken.
Thank you for your answer by the way
---------- Post added at 01:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 AM ----------
I actually don't know how to find this "system_froyo_odex_all" on SourgeForge, but I don't see how that would help since I am having no problem including æøå as long as I hold the button corresponding the specific letter and select it on-screen. Then the letters are just fine.
I would just like my keyboard to be able to bring these letters by itself, but it doesn't matter what key-combination that does the trick.
I have been looking into hex-editing some of the files in "/system/usr/keychars/" but they don't correspond to what the keyboard actually brings.
I don't think my Android use the "/system/usr/keychars/qwerty.kcm.bin" that I've found in the builds that I mentioned before, but I might be missing something.
Editing the keychars file might be the only way to do it then. There are some differences I noted between your keyboard and mine and, to be honest, I haven't physically seen any other keyboard in the US other than the Tilt.
Yeah I believe it's the only way to do it, but I just don't understand how to do this, since the file is nothing like the actual keyboard, but maybe you know if it's using a default layout from somewhere else in the system? Or maybe I'd be able to link it to a new char file instead?

Wiimote Support!

So I somewhat got Wiiremote support on the Vivid. I extracted the Bluetooth.apk from a Cyanogenmod rom.
1.) you need to have a odexed rom (I used rumraider b3)
2.) install the attached file by putting it in /System/app (i put it on my sd card and used root explorer)
3.) install Bluez IME and the HID addon (google it )
4.) follow the IME's instuctions and select Wiimote (HID) for the device.
known problems:
lights continue to blink, it's connected and won't turn off but the lights blink instead of show the 1
use at your own risk, this worked for me, no one else has tested it. Let me know how it works for you
Sry if this is off topic ,will this work for ps3axis controller

i'm not sure you can try? i don't see why it wouldn't.
The HTC Sense bluetooth apk is the "roadblock" for pairing the remotes. swapping it out should solve problems for all the pairing problems.
You know, I never would have thought of trying this on my own. I've got a bluetooth device that won't sync properly with anything stock on the vivid but I had GB ROM that I think used the telstra bluetooth stack that worked perfectly. Since going to ICS it had stopped working again but after reading this post I decided to pull the Bluetooth.apk off that old ROM and it works perfectly again.
Thanks for the tip.
Is this possible on the new stock ATT ICS rom? How can I backup or get the original installer for bluetooth on this rom? Thank you.

You can use a file browsing app like Root Explorer.
The Bluetooth.apk will be in system/apps. Mount system to R/W
move the original file to your sdcard somewhere.
And take the one posted in op's post up above.
And paste and install it in system/apps.
You need root permissions to do this though. Good luck.

It looked like I was able to just open the apk file posted and install it. Do you think this is possible? I didn't want to screw up my phone if I didn't have the original to replace it. Thanks.

it has to be put in the system apps folder because that's where the phone looks for the bluetooth support. also it needs some elevated permissions and isn't made to comply with superuser.
you can make a backup just in case
Had it sync fine the first time I tried it, and then my dad called and my screen off profile was too low so my phone restarted lol. Now I can't get it to sync again! When I Activate Bluetooth with Bluez IME selected I get a "pairing request," and if I choose it from the notification menu it says to enter a PIN on the phone and device (which I can't because you can't enter a PIN on the wiimote, plus the IME isn't touch input anymore).
My steps:
Activate Bluetooth
Scan for devices - Nintendo RVL-CNT-01
Select Device Driver - Wiimote (HID)
Select IME - Bluez IME
Anddd the wiimote just times out. Any insight?
try uninstalling the apk that you installed via installer (not dropping in system/app) if you haven't already
then maybe try reinstalling bluez IME?
i wish i could be more help!
Keep getting a "Disconnected: Software Interference" Are there limitations on a per-app basis as far as functionality is concerned?

[Q] Xperia Z Keyboard on RAZR i

Hi,
When using non-Sony ROMs I've been flashing the Sony Xperia keyboard. If you find texting difficult on smartphone keyboards, try this. It's my favourite keyboard.
Question: (and discussion) Has anyone tried this on stock RAZR i? I haven't rooted yet and wondered does it work OK. This one needs to be flashed in a recovery, then you select the Xperia keyboard in settings/message.
Note: this is not my work, thanks to the original creator kristiancarl

It does not work
I tried it also with copying the files into the system but it force closes every time.
The error status i get flashing in recovery is: 255
dont know what this means.
This is a shame, the ICS version seemed to work on any ROM without any problem.
The OP of the thread has these instructions:
1. Decompress the zip file.
2. Ignore the META-INF folder
3. In the app folder, you'll find textinput-chn.apk (Mandarin Chinese keyboard) and textinput-tng.apk (English keyboard).
4. You can move one or both into /system/app folder with ES File Manager/root explorer/etc. (or adb)
5. Move lib/libXT9Engine into /system/lib
6. Move usr/xt9 into /system/usr
7. Reboot. If you still don't see the keyboard in your settings, install the apk with your file manager which should work with the libraries installed.
Basically, you move the few files yourself with correct permissions.
I won't ask anyone to go to that trouble, flash was enough. :fingers-crossed: If you really like the Xperia keyboard I understand. I will definitely try the above myself too.

Now I will try the ICS version, im on JB
And I love the xperia Keyboard its amazing, its the best I know, better than swiftkey
////EDIT:
It does not worl Please let me know if you can get it working!
A temporary keyboard similar to the Sony one is Smart Keyboard Pro. There is a portrait T9 keyboard in there too if you use that.
I have tried many versions of the Sony keyboard which have been ported for any ROM, but they all force close after installation.
Anyone manage to get this to work?
Its the best keyboard i've used. Hope someone can figure out how to make it work.

So for anyone else who still wants the xperia keyboard, its been ported here:
