When I try to boot my galaxy tab I get into a pc - exclamation mark - phone image!!
I read some who solved the problem by flashing an image with odin by entering the download mode!
The problem is that I can't enter the download mode!
When I connect the tab into the pc it won't turn on at all... Not even the exclamation mark image appears!!
When I charge it by connecting it to a power source the tab shows the image for seconds, turns off for seconds, shows the image again, turn off again etc...
Please help!!
Please search before posting.
But power off, press home+vol down+power until that screen comes up, connect to Odin and reflash your rom with the p1-hidden.pit and youll be fine.
Don't Revive Me Bro!
I know, the problem is that I can't load into this mode when the tab is connected to PC... It just turns off and never turns on again until I plug it in a power source...
Then charge it for a while then try.
Ive had the issue with the exclamation mark, but when you press the buttons to enter download it does enter it, but the picture never changes. You just have to repartition your device and reflash.
Don't Revive Me Bro!
Charged it for hours, still can't get into the exclamation mark screen when plugged out from the power source...
And I still wonder why does it turn on and off intermittently every few seconds while charging?!
Any ideas?!
Wont it stay on reguardless of how you try to power up?
Don't Revive Me Bro!
The picture won't change. Here's how:
1. Put it into download mode by pressing the volume down + power buttons together. Again, the picture WON'T change.
2. I used Heimdall for this, but I don't know if Odin will work. Anyway, load the Roto JMI-V2 ROM into your tab. I used this rom because it bypassed the fact that my tab's bootloader was still locked. Here's the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360
3. Wait for it and it'll load.
The reason why you got that is because you have a locked bootloader. If you are using a GSM Tab, then use the "patch bootloader" app by Chainfire and Rotohammer in the forums. Here's the patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
I hope your Tab will work.
Edit: You should post questions in the Q&A Sub-forum btw.
When plugged to a power source, it stays on
When plugged out, it never turns on whatever I press, not even the exclamation mark page appears...

It is like the buttons of the tab are not functioning

I had the same issue - Ive trying to root locked kernel and got yellow exclamation mark.
Follows the advice here I am sucessfully restored tab.
Tips:
Powering tab with volume down indeed turning the tab into download mode even if display shows exclamation mark. Just check if ODIN see the device.
Flash Gingerbread stock rom (follow the istructions from thread).
Dont wipe the data folder.
Install root just after flash.
Install titanium backup, backup all apps
Boot into recovery mode and wipe data dir/factory restore.
I understand all this. The problem is that the tab doesn't power on, not even the exclamation mark page appears, unless it is connected to a power source!!
Whenever it is plugged out, the screen goes off!!

Don't tell me that you exhausted your battery... O_O
It sounds like your battery is dead and won't hold a charge. Plug your cable into a powered usb port on your laptop, and operate the buttons on the tab to get into download mode, start odin, then flash.
I had exactly the some problem after bad flash.
Battery is not charging from charger and will be without charge by now.
If you connect to computer nothing will happen and Odin will not recognise it.
To fix the problem connect Tab to computer and leave it for a while (at least 20min). Now Odin should see it. Leave it connected a bit longer to get some more charge in to battery. Flash using Odin again. Hopefuly it will be OK this time.
I had something like this after screwing around with different roms.
I left it plugged in to the PC for a good while (could have been up to an hour) and eventually an image came on the screen of a phone - yellow exclamation mark in triangle - a pc. This made the phone show up in odin (so it seems it was some sort of back up download mode). At this point though flashing the kernal kept failing so I took it to the store, *****ed about how the phone crashed after an update and didn't leave til they gave me a replacement (after having a go at the manager).
Hopefully if you can get into this "alternative" download mode someone can help you from there.
Same issue of " alternative download mode", even when I'm lucky enough to have the screen show up while my tab is plugged into the usb the computer doesn't recognize that anything is there. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Samsung drivers, rebooted my comp, tried every usb port, tried kies, tried with sdcard in and out, but neither odin, heimdall, nor win7 can detect any USB device exists. I also have an Epic and haven't had any issues with it. Running out of ideas so anything would be helpful.
*update* as tho anyone wereon the edge of their seat... I was able to get my PC to recognize my tab after uninstalling samsung drvrs and reinstalling then shutting down, restarted while tab charged via wall socket, then plugged it into front usb and voila about 15 min later I hear windows alert me that a connection was made and its searching/installing drivers. From their I flashed Sprint firmware w/o modem and it finally stuck. Then had to go back to work. Next I need the modem bc I couldn't get heimdall to flash the firmware from the sprint flasher package. Said it couldn't find device or something

I installed the radio 5.08.00.04 (using the same file I had used previously).
Now it will not power ON. I tried 3 batteries. Nothing happens when I plug it to the wall either.
Any ideas?
thanks

Most likely a brick. Sorry bro.
Did you verify that the Md5's matched?
MD5 matched. I used this same file to install before.
was this caused because I had previously installed the same radio?
It installed as usual, then i pressed something for it to reboot (prompt) but it powered off.
Why would you flash the same radio you had before? What file did you use, link to source, and how did you flash it? As a rule of thumb you should never flash the radio via recovery.
my device was rebooting in a loop and once, i was able to stop it by turning off data. i thought that maybe it could be the radio.
i used the file from >>> cyanogen wiki android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/passion/radios/passion.5.08.00.04.zip
like i said, i had that file in the SD card and i re-installed it today, but i had already installed it before.
now the nexus doesn't power on. i tried all the buttons (vol- + power, wheel + power)... nothing on the screen. completely black. i took out the battery for 30 minutes, and nothing.
after installing the radio, it powered off (there was an image of a box with an arrow towards the android)...
wasn't planning on buying another phone.
its possible your power button is damage.
Plug your N1 via usb to a pc, the charge light will come on, remove the battery. once the light goes off, quickly put the battery back in the phone. this should reboot your phone.
If your phone reboots, it means your power button is flawed, its common with N1. Take the battery out and do it again, this time hold the trackball. this will boot your phone into fastboot mode.
I tried connecting to the power adapter, but no light. the button was fine, and the device shut off at the end of flashing the radio. i think that it's supposed to reboot, or prompt.
the phone is dead.
So you flashed it in recovery... Time to work on that JTAG.
yah, flashed in recovery, not fastboot.
Jtag? Any links?
thanks
Weird I might say? I flashed mine in recovery and it was fine. And JTAG is a year old method manually tricking the device to boot up being bricked. Google it. Like I said, its really old. Good luck.

Well here's my long story...
i was running QND MIUI for about 2 months, thought of checking ICS,
so i took nandroid and installed MIUI ICS (non blackrose version).
installation went fine and it booted up good. but i found it to be laggy and
so decided to restore my previous rom. so i switched off.(the problem started nw)
when i pressed on the power button it didnt boot. i tried pressing as hard as possible
but nothing happened.
Battery Swap
so i tried swapping batteries with my brother's nexus one. his phone booted but mine didn't
(so my battery is fine)
Battery Trick
i tried the battery trick, again my brother's phone booted but mine didnt
( so my power button should be fine)
i connect my phone to pc via usb charger. the orange led glows but its not detected by system.
when i charge using wall charger, again orange led glows and after some time it turns green
( so battery stats is read correctly)
My nexus is SLCD variant with unlocked bootloader
so is my nexus dead ? what could be the problem? is there any solution to bring it alive? or should i hand it over to htc service center ?
EDIT : have linked two videos of how i do battery trick
1- working in my bro's phone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O5adV-jj64
2- not working in mine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCyPIyGorFk

If you tried to flash an ICS ROM on the stock hboot partition layout, I'd sau your phone cannot access the system and you cannot start the phone because of a broken power button.
The power button flex cable can stop working just like that even if you very rarely used the power button.

he said, when he switched battery, it bricked.
same brick, and he fixed by warranty.
wish good luck to you
updated the OP to show video of how i do battery trick and still my phone not booting
Try doing the battery trick to get into the bootloader (fastboot mode). I can't remember what the key press is on the Nexus One (maybe try the trackball, or maybe try vol up, or vol down). You need to hold down the correct button while doing the battery trick to get you into fastboot mode.
If that doesn't work, and your device cannot boot into the bootloader, I'm afraid there is nothing that can be done without repairing it.

It will charge whether your phone is bricked or not.
It will charge whether your phone is sinked or not.(not sinked battery)
I think your phone's dead, absolutely.
If it is brick, you'll boot into bootloader, of course.(or just first boot section)
hi again n1newbie
responding off your pm as I stated
efrant is right, if you can't boot to bootloader--not good prospects
the keys are hold down pwr/vol-/tb at same time. it can take 2-30 seconds
also i don't remember if you said the pc recognizes phone when plugged
if so you could plug it in to pc and go to command shell and try adb reboot bootloader. hopefully you already have usb debugging checked on phone
i don't have my n1 anymore, so can't actually test anything
you could try to reformat and partition sd card out of phone--back up first--
did you ever check md5 before flashing miui
if you can get into bootloader you may want to reflash a recovery before proceeding and see what hboot you have--i forget the number for the stock one--

Unfortunately this will not work. ADB requires you to be either booted into Android or into recovery. You cannot issue ADB commands without either Android or recovery running.

Didn't think about not booted into Rom for adb
Can't hurt on reformatting--

1.no my pc doesnt recognise. so cannot use adb
2.so do i need to press that key combos while doing battery trick?
@efrant
1.can this happen all of a sudden just by flashing a rom, with stock hboot? (i didnt check md5 )
@reider123
1.so u mean to say that the charging led glows and reads the battery stats correctly irrespective of the phone being dead or alive???
ok guys ill try that key combo when doing batteru trick and update when i get home.

Hi!
My phone is no longer detectable on my PC via USB (Win7 and Linux), with adb or nvflash with vol+ + vol- or vol- + power or anything.
This problem come from the last official stock update, like what, it's crazy. And no access to hidden menu, etc.
Then, after, trying to solve this problem by applying http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981359, by using Rom Manager to replace TWRP by CWM recovery (I know, it's very bad idea...), now my phone don't want to boot in recovery mode, I probably corrupt my system.
Now I have a brick, which can boot and display "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..." with vol down, but no usb IPX mode or adb or anything (to be sure, I try with another android phone, and work perfectly).
In normal boot, I have LG logo, then rom logo (an X in color), and no change, this animation continue but no end.
I had try many usb cable, reinstall lg drivers and nvidia drivers, different pc and os...
Can we restore recovery mode with special scheme, file, on a sdcard only by boot the phone?
I'm very interested in any ideas that can unlock me.
A big thank you to the community!

Yes, this script only call nvflash with predefined parameters.
My phone is not detectable by nvflash or adb, that is why it doesn't work.

I had a weird brick with my 2x too, after flashing a wrong rom and it was not working at all
So I decided to remove the battery and use a spare one I had in my stuff, and the phone turned on, and when i turned it off again I could reuse nvflash to get back to stock
Did you try something like that, or only charrging the phone for a few hours to see if comes back ?

Remove battery.
Press and hold volume- key.
Connect USB cable.
Still press volume- key.
Release when you see screen says "S/W" download.
Insert battery back.
If it worked use smartflash to flash a rom. If the screen still black, then you should try it on another pc. There is no way to screw up the nvflash mode with a bad flash or anything. Keep in mind that keys can be unresponsive during the years. It is realy hard to set my phone to nvflash mode since my volumkeys are unresponsive. I have to press them so hard that my phone nearly break in to half.
If it still not works change usb cable. Check the device manager for devices with a ! in a yellow triangle. If you see that you have some kind of driver issues. If all of these fails to revive your phone, then your phone is dead.

unfortunately it doesn't work, try with a new pc and a new cable... no change. My usb slot in my p990 is probably dead. what is infuriating is the rest works well.
Did you use fast charge with any ROM ?
USB fast charge can damage the USB connector
Did you try using the method to check if the device connects to computer with nvflash, since it does not require battery ?
Try checking this and if the USB connection broke you can send your device to a repair shop to replace it, or even search ebay, aliexpress and etc to find spare parts, and if you do so, I recommed get an extra battery (non original batteries are cheap)
good luck

That is probably a myth.
Try to use a very short usb cable and use the ports on the backside of the pc ( not a laptop!), I always had problems with the front usb ports.
SO I really dunno what could possible made this device die
I nevr had big issues with mine like this, but the closest thing that hapenned when the device stopped working, and did not charge, was to put another battery and this helped
is someone selling this the whole USB flex hardware? I wanna buy it. I am from Philippines.
Hi,
I was walking down the street and when I looked at my phone, the screen was black. I thought it can't be the battery since it was just charged.
I went home, plugged it to the power supply and I got the following loop:
1. Empty Battery logo
2. Black screen
3. Back to 1
So I thought I let it plugged to the power supply and try to
enter the recovery mode, but it was unaccessible
turn on my phone, but it won't even show to the SGS logo
So I plugged the phone to my computer, went to download mode and I tried 2 different stock rom with ODIN v4.43, it didn't change a thing.
Again, plugged to the computer, went to download mode and sent a RCWM 6.0.1.2 via ODIN v4.43......... it didn't change a thing.
I don't know what to do anymore... Any solutions I could try?

Moulay.

There are 2 possibilities:
1) For some reason, your bootloader got broken. That means hard brick.
2) I heard that there are Odin versions that work the best with every device. Odin v4.43 isn't one of them.

Hi,
I flashed it using this method over and over again (7 times or so) and then, it worked for some reason. Don't know for how long though.

Hope it will work for you as well.
