[Q] Tab versions? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Q] Does anyone have the overview of the different versions and sizes of Galaxy Tab?
What I've heard of so far without knowing what is released or not is and with no claim to accuracy
1. The original 7 inch (gsm and cdma)
2. Wifi only version
3. The 1010
4. 8.9 inch version
5. 7.7 inch version
6. 5.4 inch version
7. A new 7 inch version SGT + (or is this the same as the 7.7 ??)

[Q] Question about wi-fi only galaxy tab

Can I install any ROM on the wi-fi only Galaxy Tab? or do I need to use a particular ROM for it?
Wifi-only Tab (P1010) is a completely different beast from 3G (P1000 CDMA or GSM) Tabs.
It has different CPU (Texas Instruments OMAP) and other hardware and no 3G ROM will work on it. It requires different kernel and I am not even sure whether partition layout is the same. All it shares with P1000 is form factor and name.
@technomancer. Dude, im from philippines and im using a galaxy tab gt-p1000 korea. Can i change it to gingebread 2.3?

Well that really sux. So unless devs pick up the wifi model its not going to look so great in terms of rooting and development. I will hold back and see what happens first.
Being a complete noob to all of this I'm confused about the hardware differences between the wifi Tab and the phone Tabs. The PDAnet database lists the wifi with a Samsung-Intrinsity S5PC110 CPU which is apparently identical to a bunch of other Tab phones (ie. Verizon Samsung SCH-i800 Galaxy Tab 7.0, NTT DoCoMo Galaxy Tab 7.0 SC-01C). Is the database wrong, or is there something about CPU manufacturing I don't understand?
Again, I'm just askin' cause I'm completely new to all of this stuff. After one week I really love my brand new wifi Tab, but I can see how I might like to play around with it after awhile. Hopefully you guys won't have to start from scratch for wifi development?

[Q] Besides G.Tab, any other Tablet that offers 'Phone' abilities via SIM Card?

I currently own a Samsung Tablet with Phone functionality via T-Mobile, I'm wondering if there are any other tablets out there that offer this capabilities (hacked or not hacked)?
I use T-Mobile, so itd have to be compatible with T-Mobile/SIM Card... or is the Galaxy Tab my only option?
Love my tab as phone, so much real estate on the screen it's amazing, totally outweighs the size of the phone... just wondering if i have more choices out there
I believe the flyer and the 8.9 tab

I believe by following this below treat, you can enable the phone function (for european version). Mine is unbranded and unlock (Asian version), that why I can use the phone function.

[Q] Can you explain the different models, I'm confused

Hello
I'm a Canadian looking to buy an 8.9 from Negri Electronics, but I'm confused on pricing and models. Here's my confusion:
Samsung P7300 3G 16GB 3G/GSM Galaxy 8.9" Tab (Soft Black) $498.50
https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-p7300-3g-gsm-galaxy-8-9-tab-soft-black.html
Samsung GT-P7310MAYXAR Tablet 8.9 16GB Wifi Only (Metallic Gray) $495.50
https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-101-16gb-mg.html
Samsung SGH-i957 Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE (AT&T) (Unlocked) (Black) $579.50
https://negrielectronics.com/samsung-sgh-i957-galaxy-tab-8-9-lte-at-t-unlocked-black.html
What's confuses me the most is that the P7300 3G 16GB has been reduced from $594 down to $498, the same price as the wifi version ($495.50), but it has 3G/GSM. What gives? Why is the P7300 3G so cheap?
This section is for the 7" Tab, not the 8.9
Next time look closer, there is a specific section (and subsections within it) for the 8.9 version:

I think the question is, Why is the P7310 so expensive? In the US you can pick one up from Best Buy for $400. If you don't need the 3G functionality, it's a shame that you have to pay for it!
FWIW, I got my P7300 in Cambodian for $477, which I think is pretty average.

[Q] Thinking of leaving verizon for the ATT gnote but I have some qs...

I want to get the note with ATT after I leave verizon (no point in staying if I can't keep unlimited when I upgrade). I want to know that if I install roms for the I7000 or whatever (international version, right?) will I run into any problems? Is there any differentiation between the att version of the note and the international one? And if so, how can I weed out the development for the att note?
Also curious, if I can install international roms on the ATT version, will I retain my lte?
Different phones. Use the AT&T Note thread for information.

Different hardware entirely. Either buy the ATT note and checkout the ATT note forum, or do what I did and buy the international note (unlocked) and use on AT&T network (in which case this is the correct forum). But you can't mix.

That's exactly what I did. I have the unlocked GT-N7000 (this forum model) on the ATT network. But yeah, totally different phones.

I have been doing a ton of research on the Note, so this is one of the few questions I can answer here. Not all of them...but most. Since I am still new here I am unable to add links.
The Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 (International) has a a dual-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor. Externally, it has a physical "home" button and two touch-sensitive buttons. It also has a built in radio.
The Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717 (US & Canada) has a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU and an Adreno 220 GPU. It has four touch-sensitive buttons instead of two. It can do LTE.
Looking at that you might think that the I717 is just better all around. This -apparently - is incorrect. In the bench marked tests I saw with a Galaxy Note with Exynos VS. the Galaxy Note with Snapdragon, the Exynos based one beat Snapdragon performance wise.
Galaxy Note with Exynos
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt High: 2827 Frames (25.0 Fps)
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard: 3012 Frames (26.7 Fps)
Galaxy Note with Snapdragon
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt High : 1014 Frames (9.0 Fps)
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard : 2425 Frames (21.5 Fps)
The site I found this from is called "Galaxy Tabs" from a a Feb 6, 2012 post.
Which leaves the question - Why would Samsung use a less hefty chip in the US & Canada version. The reason I have found is that the Exynos processor can't do LTE. Then again - weather all this is good or not depend on preferences and pattern of use.
------------------
So there you have it. I should mention though that (I presume) you did a terrible job searching. Not only did I find a post here from 28th February 2012 Called i717 vs GT N7000, but I also found alot of information from -wait for it- Wikipedia. Just FYI.
On the upside though - most of the stuff I mentioned I did from memory.
YAY research!
The att i717 has lte. If u using internet alot and your area has lte. Its better to use the att gnote. U can always overclock tge i717gnote to make tge clock faster.. After overclock there's no lag issues and it runs super smooth. But if u want more custom roms abd faster offical update. Buy the international gnote. Either way u cant go wrong. I chose attgnote cos tge lte and i overclock my note. It runs super smooth and super fast downloads cos tge lte!!
