XT860 Performance Increase! - Motorola Droid 3

Hi Everyone,
I spent a fair bit of time with my phone (specifically the build.prop file) and found that the performance of my phone has really increased since adding these 2 lines to the end my build.prop file:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
debug.sf.hw=1

I've been running with these tweaks on for the last 12 hours seems to be MUCH snappier! Anybody have any additional tweaks to try? These tweaks will probably also work on D3.

Yes however the 1st one only works with the default launcher. It keeps launcher in mem

Wouldn't thatbesimilar to v6 hard to kill launcher

That's interesting. Maybe a reason to finally root my phone. Haven't done it yet cause the SGS2 is my main phone.
I will wait till other people confirm this cause have to look up that file somewhere first lol.

[Q] Just got my nexus one!

Hi,
Just got my nexus one and i'm about to root him.
What are the first things I need to do, after rooting?
I see there are lots of kernels, which do I need?
thanks!
Have a read of this is the best advice I can give: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One
Once rooted if you want to use a custom rom I recommend CM6 RC1 if you want something stock like but with everyone option you could think of (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722798) or RoDrIgUeZsTyLe MIUIMOD if you want something different (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799737). They both have a kernel included.
EDIT: and make a Nandroid backup before you do anything.
thank you!
very usefull tips!
Congratz on your Nexus One! Have fun & Happy flashing!
Should return it and get a Nexus S. =) I'm just saying. I still have my Nexus 1. I love it but I'm using the G2 now.. Good phone. Can't wait for the Nexus S
EDIT: wtf? weird bug on forum lol

Hmm, N1 + Miui is great! Very pleased about it.
Nexus S doesn't seem so much better than N1. So I won't be jealouse
welcome to the N1 World.
here is some stuff that you should do/try
- flash amon ra recovery 2.0.0
- try miui
- make nandroid backup
- factory reset/wipe -> flash cm nighty / r1
- choose keep going cm or fall back to miui
(i think cm is better cuz its more "stock" than miui)
okay now get some root-Apps
- Adfree
- Titanium Backup
- CacheMate
- LEDHack
- Root Explorer / eStrongs File Explorer
some play some with you Nexus and if you feel you need more space edit the LCD-Density (with eStrongs oder with adb)
eStrongs
1.Settings -> Root Options
2.now navigate to /system/ and open build.prop
3.navigate to ro.sf.lcd_density = 240
4.change the 240 to 190
5. reboot
ADB:
1.Set up Android SDK
2.
Code:
adb shell sed -i 's/ro.sf.lcd_density = .*/ro.sf.lcd_density = 190/g' /system/build.prop
3. reboot
Get Metamorph and some Morphs. Quicksettings is also a nice free app.
what does the lcd density change? I always see people changing values but never understood what it stands for and what it changes =\
lcd density changer increases your screen pixel density so you squeeze more pixels -- and therefore more text/pictures/etc -- onto the display, which means less scrolling up/down/left/right. however, not all apps support it so you'll occasionally run into graphical hiccups
hmm I see, alright thanks a lot
EDIT: wait so the higher the lcd density, the bigger resolution we get? or the other way around? that other guy is changing it from 240 to 190, how will it change?

190 and 200 are popular ones. its backwards logic, lower it is the more space you get to play with
get spare parts and uncheck compat mode to make it work in most apps

Alright, got it, thanks a lot
190 is perfect cuz you still see the green light (buttons) from Quicksetting.
(missing when you change to 180)
my setup is 190 density cols 7 rows 8. Keep in Mind with ADW Launcher (integrated in CM) you can resize you widgets.
like spanning a 2x1 widget to 4x1 or even 8x1. (for stuff like Battsatt or NoteWidget)

[Q] Best V6 SuperCharger settings for our HTC Hero?

I saw people mentioning the V6 supercharger script, and went and found and installed it. However I wasn't sure what setting to use (when it asks for a number between 1-17). Cloud I get some advice from others on that?
Here's the supercharger thread for those interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
I'm pretty sure the choice you want is 6 at least that's what I did. Not sure where I saw that, but I think is was from the gingerbread man

6 is what I use with the kernel and 3g tweaks as well and it has made a huge difference. I know others are using that as well on the Hero. I like my performance with no compcahe and jit on. Every phone is different though. I'm doing the animations on fast in spare parts. I am finally using all animations too, not just the window.
Sent from my HERO JBGB
Yeah it definitely improved my phone's performance. I'm going to try disabling compcache and disabling jit (since it was on by default) and see what happens. Maybe further performance increases will ensue.

I have gotten good response from my phone with jit on. I will have to test more with jit off to compare. I did with compcache and found more lagginess on my device, but others have probably have no issue- same with jit as well. I also have asset purging disabled FWIW.
Good luck!

I'm not really sure that the 3g tweaks are working. I've tried all the options on the latest release, but nothing seems to change when I run a speedtest. I'm generally around 1k down/600 up. Any ideas on this? I don't know if I need to running run on boot as well or not. . .

Same here. I tried all, even the two "experimental" options and my speed test results are basically identical to what I had before applying any updates.
for the experimental it says "it may or may not make things snappier or do nothing at all" and as too the 3g tweak, did u reboot after installation? you can check your buildprop to see if settings were changed
Yup...did a reboot each time. Would it matter the order in which the other "tweaks" were implemented? I did the 3g, then the v6 supercharger, then the kernal tweak.
But, I'm seeing no benefit at all from the 3g.
Running gb hero deck 1.21 with. 29 kernal and firerat mod as well.

I ran some tests on my 3g speeds and the results were pretty inconclusive. I guess I should have included a test with the 3g tweaks turned off too. Anyway, it was a pretty limited test, but it seems like there isn't much of a difference with any of the 5 settings. I'm not unhappy with the 3g speeds. I just was hoping to get more of a bump with the tweaks.
I ran 10 tests each, using speakeasy.net on my laptop, while tethering to my phone's 3g. I went that route b/c I've read that the speed test app is pretty buggy for GB ROMs. In my experience that is very true b/c my readings are all over the place with that thing.
Turns out the "Fastest" was indeed fastest. But, not by much. Here are my average readings over 10 iterations:
Fastest - 1304 kbps / 464 kbps
Faster - 1299 kbps / 464 kbps
Exp. 2 - 1259 kbps / 339 kbps
Exp. 1 - 1132 kbps / 438 kbps
Fast - 1147 kbps / 390 kbps
The fastest single DL test was on the Experimental 2 and was 2510 kbps (2.51 M)...however, the slowest DL test was also on Exp. 2 (530 kbps). So, that one was all over the place. I guess i just have to accept that the hero isn't gonna be getting 2-3M download speeds with regularity on Sprint's 3g. For now, i'm too stubborn to upgrade, but we'll see how that goes.
As far as the v6 tweaks, i never really had a complaint with this phone since getting rid of that laggy-as-hell stock ROM. CM7, GB deck, and aospCMod have all been really snappy for me...especially when in conjunction with Launcher Pro. I think i'm on the latest radio (2.42.02.10.29). However, i'm not on the latest PRL. I don't know how to change that w/o reverting back to sense. I'm at 60677, currently. Would that make a difference with 3g? I thought that only pertained to the voice signal and roaming...
Im trying to do this too i see there are different updates and versions. Also when i press enter where the heck is the enter button on our hero? Why is it for txt it has a go button and for other things its a back button. Im running standard GB keyboard. I dont know how to finish the V6 if i dont know where to enter.

Anyone here used V6-Supercharger on their D3?

I'm itching to install it but I'd like to hear from some people who have used it first.
I'd advise against it.
No need, since no weak memory allocation and management like the DX2.
I did it worked had to get correct busybox version couldn't tell if anything really happened but why the avoid krazy?

Have you rebooted your device? If not give that a go, and tell me how it works out for you.
I didn’t' even execute any options with the script and it cause me to bootloop once I rebooted, and someone else experienced the same.
I did bootlooped factory rest got my stuff back re-supercharged and works fine I even did a reboot after 30mins and still worked

I figured as much, but I am getting a pretty decent amount of lag, even after fully removing bloatware (about 32 apps total). I don't see how people are claiming 200mb free. Even after bloatware removal, I still only have 80-130 free at any given time, and I personally hate using an app-killer.
Don't get me wrong, I do know that Android will try and use up any memory that is free and that having a low number of RAM available isn't a bad thing. But, as I stated earlier, I am experiencing a good amount of lag from time to time (mainly due to my widgets I would assume).
I did a factory reset and a battery pull 2 days ago, and the boot-up process is twice as fast now...just as it was when I first bought the phone. But the lag is still present, and the REDRAWING is driving me absolutely insane.

Yeah. That was me. I did run the script though. It didn't even get past the Droid part of the boot animation. A factory reset will fix it, and you'll still have root after.

not true; v6 is for all android OS released so far. It was specifically developed for Gingerbread, but works well on Froyo also.
BUT: There are still conflicting reports that changes it makes in the /system folder may cause problems with the D3, so until an .sbf is available, i'd proceed with great caution doing ANYTHING to the D3 that is not entirely in userspace.
I removed most of the bloat I was comfortable pulling off... but I must say the biggest jump in responsiveness has been from tweaking the build.prop to increase the events per second (I'm at 120) and VM memory (64m).
Please, err on the side of caution right now as we have no sbf, no clockwork recovery. I had to sbf my D2 enough times playing with things I didn't think had a chance of breaking it, that did, that I'm very careful what I poke at on my daily driver, and urge you to as well

How to help a little bit 2.3.4's memory hungryness

It seems that it hadn't been discussed before, and I find it very important. 2.3.4 stock ROM, and all the ROMs derived from that have the VM Heap size set to 48M, while at 2.2 this value is 32M. At normal usage 32M is perfectly enough, so I highly recommend to change it. The easiest way is to download VM Heap tool from market , its usage is obvious.
(Of course it requires root privileges.)
Why dont you simply add it in build.prop? Find the corresponding ling in dev forum.

Obviously it is possible to do this via editing build.prop - I suggested this method because it is easier for a non-advanced user. (VM Heap tool does nothing else than changing this value in build.prop and reboot.) (I couldn't find this issue in the forum, that's why I mentioned here.)
thanks for this advice
So this is interesting... But a few feedbacks from people who had done it would be very helpful. What would we gain if we do it, did it really help, is memory level better? I wanna try it but i played with my phone tooo much recently i am getting a little scared.

Sure, but I can only share my experience, others can share theirs
Currently I run Zeus 3.2 with all the LG options added, and free RAM is usually >100M, sometimes it goes down to cca. 80M.
I have LG launcher, some LG widgets (contacts, calendar, battery), Battery Spy running, sometimes the browser, GMail, LG Mail, other apps), so it can be considered heavy usage.
Actually the free RAM is 135MB. (uptime cca. 2 days.)

[Tweak]Speed up your REVO to warp speed!!!!!

What up ppl? Got a cool little trick.
Here's is the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877183
Basically this is a tweak to the egl.cfg to force the device to use the gpu for all graphics rendering. This is for the Adreno200 graphics set, which we have. Been running this tweak and anything dealing with graphics is a whole lot faster. Even 3d games run a lot better. Dead Trigger runs just as good as Halo does on the xbox. (when oc'd to 2.0 )
Make a backup!!!!!!
Check it out. You will not be disappointed.
***The flashable zip does not work. Unpack the zip and copy/paste to /system/lib/egl.***
I noticed the tweak'd file is half the size of my egl.cfg. Replace it. No frets.
Enjoy!!!!!
Thank you for the suggestion! Does this affect our battery life?
Honestly, I haven't been paying much attention to batt life. But now that you mention it, I guess it hasn't affected it too much either way considering I haven't noticed any differences; at least on stock kernel and blitz3.0 beta.
did you delete libGLES_android.so ?
and Open build.prop and add the following
change dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y TO
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y,o=v,u=y ?
I couldnt find dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y. So I didn't add the extra line. But should I?
If you can wait till tomorrow some time, lol it's after 1 here, later today i will update about the dalvik tweak.
I'm still waiting to hear back about deleting the .so file. I didn't and have no issues. the phone seems a lot quicker.
thank you!
Renamed the EGL and SO file to .old and just added the new EGL file things are quicker in some areas and the same in others on stock LG Home. Transition when swiping from desktop screen to desktop screen there is still a slight stutter but the apps list is smooth. Angry birds over all feels smoother but there is still the occasional stutter. I am going to try the build prop to see if it adds anything more.
NM neither of the dalvik related items are in my build prop and I prefer not to add them with out knowing what may happen.
Ok, don't have to delete the .so file. But batt life seems to have gone a little south.
And the build.prop tweaks work fine. At least I can say there are no issues that I notice. Can't really tell if it made any difference. I've seen the dalvik tweak in a Rom for the esteem so I'm guessing that it's safe.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda app-developers app
As time goes by the tweak seems to be more noticeable. Day 2 and over all things do seem faster and smoother. I am going to put in the dalvik tweak and see how it goes.
I have not noticed any difference in batter usage. I have noticed that the phone seems to have more free memory. I seems like about 100Meg for me which always makes a huge difference in performance. Either way it seems good. Should tide me over till Verizon gets a Lumia 920 and I can jump ship. I am up for renewal in February. Going WP8 which fully integrates rendering on the GPU out of the box, windows phone always has which is why it has always been smooth on even crappy hardware like the trophy.
Hm. Not too big of a diff to me honestly.
Ok 2 days in and it does seem to eat a slight bit more battery when idle. The dalvik mod made no noticeable difference but since it does not appear to be hurting anything I will leave it. ADWEX runs exceptionally smooth. Screen transition is buttery.
