This is my absolute first forum post ever! I love XDA and all the help it's provided me with over the years, but now I have a very specific question, one I cannot find the answer to...
I recently bought the Nexus One off of Craigslist, it came rooted and with Cyanogen already on it. Here is the problem: I ONLY GET AN EDGE CONNECTION, NEVER 3G OR 4G (I am unsure if the Nexus One supports 4G, but nonetheless, why can I not get 3G??) I never get anything besides Edge, even when I am in locations where I used to get 3G and 4G on the same network, with my old phone. I cannot understand it and really need help, I am dying with this slow connection!
Here is the info on my phone:
Model Number: Nexus One
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband Version: 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernel Version: 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-01505-g81b06a8 [email protected] #1
Mod Version: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-N1
Build Number: GRJ22
Any help would be appreciated very much. If you need anymore information on my phone, please just let me know. Thank you very much.
You have to give more specific information. Which model of Nexus One do you have and what network are you trying to use it on? On the black label under the battery there is a part number. Look at it and see below.
PB99100 = 900, 1700, 2100Mhz 3G (T-Mobile version)
PB99110 = 850, 1900, 2100Mhz 3G (AT&T version)
If you have PB99100 and are on AT&T no 3G for you. Edge only.
If you have PB99110 and are on T-Mobile no 3G for you. Edge only.
It sounds like you have the wrong version for your network's 3G.

hi everyone
so im in riyadh for 3 months and i brought my Nexus One with me. most everything is working fine with my prepaid STC sim card, however I am not able to access the internet. the people at STC are clueless in why its not working and they don't even know what APNs are, lol. but the problem is obviously the APNs
Does anyone have the correct APNs for Nexus One on STC (Saudi Telecom Company)? I really don't want to buy another phone here, everything here is quite expensive!!! a nexus one is 2300 rials or ~620 USD!!!! any help will be greatly appreciated
Hi welcome to Riyadh
STC's APN is: jawalnet.com.sa
proxy is : proxy.jawalnet.com.sa
Port: 8080
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
thank you
thanks siddiqui, the internet now works however it goes off and on and i only get GPRS speeds. is it possible to get 3G service working? is there a different apn in order to get that? thanks in advance
Should be an APN setting issue, Are you sure you have the correct version of the N1 for your network?
p.s. this should be in the Q&A forum
i hope so, i bought the nexus one the second day it was introduced from google. at that time it was only available with the 1700 & 2100mhz (tmobile) 3g frequencies, which i assume is the international standard? i know a second version was introduced to worked with the 850 & 1900mhz (at&t)...so what am i doing wrong??
No I have the same version n I'm also getting some problems in the 3g network, its not your device's fault actually the STC's 3g network coverage is bad
There is only one APN for stc.
Why don't u try the other service provider MOBILY its much better than STC
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
i'd love to switch to mobily but when i went to mobily and asked their representatives whether its possible to transfer my number to them, they said its "too difficult and that i have to get a new number." which i find very strange considering its advertised on their website!!
raqme plan:

unfortunately, its really important i keep this number. any other suggestions?

I thought the AT&T 850 & 1900 was stardard for international. The T-Mobile version bands was their own.
@futango is it? i don't know. because tmobile is a subsidiary of deutsche telekom which is present in a number of european countries, most of which do not support at&t 3g bands, but this is just an assumption because there are many 3g band frequencies out there
N1 in Riyadh
Please tell me where i can buy a nexxus one here in Riyadh
Thanks

its right across the street from the sahara mall (take imam abdulaziz rd), in the electronics district next to the ministry of communications. you can't miss it but be prepared to pay at least 2300+ SR
Guys I'm having a strange problem in my nexus one. I have a T-Mobile n1 with un rooted froyo 2.2
I have 3g network from STC and I'm getting internet in all my application except by browse, I can't brows any sites when connected to 3g or even 2g or edge, but I can check my gmail, gtalk, Facebook and all other sw.

Hi, im from Brasil and my brother is in Washington and he decided to buy the Samsung Galaxy S International Version from Amazon !!
The phone arrived today but here is the problem, a Captivate from At&T arrived instead of the international version!
he is going to use it here in Brasil, with TIM on 2100 3G frequency!
So, my question is, is there any important difference between then?
Does is it work with the 2100 freq?
Can i install different roms on it, because i've been searching about the phone more on the I9000 forum!
I've asked him to check for firmware version and here is what showed up:
2.1-update1
baseband: I897UCJF6
SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
So, should him keep it ? Need fast answer because he is coming back tomorrow!
Thanks in advance!
I'm in Brazil and using a Captivate. I'm using it on Claro Paraná which is basically 2100.
To be honest, I'd keep the AT&T one. There's an easy way to unlock it via a Market App (forgot the name now) and there is a lot of ino for it here.
You may have some issues with phone numbers but I'm still looking into it - so far I decided to remove all DDD codes and carrier codes and use "Operadora DDD" app to apply them on-the-fly.

The SGH-i897 is a quad band dual mode handset. It supports GSM frequencies of 850, 900, 1800, & 1900. It supports UMTS 850, 1900, and 2100 frequencies. There is a possibility the phone may be used with a wireless operator outside the United States however this is not guaranteed. The phone has been optimized to work on the intended carrier it was designed for.

Straight from the Samsung Website.
Thanks for the answers !!!
I was on the run to find out more about the phone because all the previously research was for the I9000 international version and there´s this deadline to return the phone tomorrow!
But after researching all day and you confirmed that it works on 2100 freq we´re keeping it!
The other concern that i saw was the 3 button download thing, but i´ve sent the instructions to my brother and its working perfectly !
Thanks again, cant wait to put my hands on it!!
Not to mention that the build quality of Captivate is way better than i9000

Hi,
I bought a nexus one and it works great. However, I have a problem with my 3g. I recently bought a data package from Tmobile. My nexus one never connects to 3g it is always on “E” (edge). I tried to research the problem and found many solutions that worked for other people but never worked for me. I get a real strong signal (-65dBm and more). I know I have 3g on my line because placed my sim card in HD2 and galaxy s and get 5 full bar of 3g. Do you guys recommend any ideas that would help me out?
Im running pure google mod Rom
With Wildmonks cm7 kernel
And radio 5.12.00.08
i had other Rom and kernel downloaded before to make sure it wasn't the problem.
Thank you
Sounds like you got one of the AT&T models. There were two different N1s made. One that supported AT&T's 3G network, and one that support T-Mobile's 3Gnetwork. The phone will work on the other network, but will not connect to 3G.
Verify which phone you have by the following:
Pull the battery and look for the PB # which is located just below the IMEI, S/N, and P/N #’s. You should see one of two PB numbers:
PB99110: 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, and 2100 MHz such as AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless in Canada
PB99100: 900 MHz, AWS, 1700 and 2100 MHz such as T-Mobile US and Vodafone in Europe

thank you and i do have the at&t model
Hi everyone i tried searching but didn't come up with anything. I'm considering purchasing an unlocked nexus one on amazon and I'm not sure if its a tmobile or att version I have tmobile as my provider if i were to get an att version would i still get 3g access? I know if it was the opposite i there would be no access for 3g on att.
Thanks
I believe t-mobile's 3g is 2100mhz, which means the atnt one should work on the network.
I'd get a second opinion though, I'm more knowledgeable on Australian networks than US ones.
Ok thank you for the input, if anyone could confirm this that would b great.
The devices are completely independent of one another in regards to 3G. Cross network compatability only extends to Edge services.
Someone jump in and correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that T-Mobile 3G requires both the 1900 and 2100 frequencies to work (up & down link).
Rod3 is correct the at&t version will not work on t-mo and the t-mo version will not work on at&t, in respect to the 3G that is you will still get edge either way.
Although as far as the both 1900MHz and 2100MHz I'm not sure about that but it's possible, anyone care to add some info.
EDIT: Just Googled it and it's 1900MHz for 2G and 1700MHz/2100MHz for 3G encase anyone is interested.
Dude, thanks for the correction. I knew there were 2 frequencies for 3G and I just picked one off the top of my head. Now that I think about it, yeah 850 and 1900 were for 2G.
Supposedly Boston has already been re-farmed to support HSPA+ on the 1900 MHz band, but I'm only getting EDGE on my Droid Razr I that I just got on eBay.
My cut down SIM seems to work fine for voice, text, and EDGE data. Is there something else I need to do to enable T-Mobile HSPA+?
Phone came with unlocked bootloader – is this radio or kernel custom or stock? Does that matter?

Thanks!
I didn't need to do anything else. Find a confirmed tower on airportal.de and go somewhere near it. You should get HSPA then.
Just to confirm, you did get a RAZR i, right? There is no such thing as a DROID RAZR i. The DROID version is called the RAZR M, and that will not support anything but EDGE without being modified.
Model number says Motorola RAZR I. You are right. I just assumed all Motorola Android smartphone carried the Droid branding.
When I zoom in on Boston on air portal.de, it looks like the 1900 MHz coverage is very patchy, so maybe it is just the parts of the city I am in.
Thank you for responding.
Yup, probably the parts of the city that you're in.
The DROID name is licensed by Verizon, not Motorola. It just happens to be that most DROID phones are Motorola phones. It's definitely confusing.
I just got my first HSPA+ signal on the train today! I was super-excited to see the H+ symbol. Hopefully the coverage expands over more of the city, but in the meantime I will just use wifi at home and work, which only have Edge network coverage.
Thanks again for your help!

Till recently T-mobile was using AWS 1700Mhz which the phone does not support guess it will take some time till they have the 1900Mhz network fully up and running
