[Q] Stock rom doesnt allow Kies updating - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, sorry for starting another thread on this, i have already searched and tested alot many hours now, so i was hoping to get some help with the issue.
I just ordered the Galaxy Note, so want to get my i9000 back to stock rom to sell it. I managed to get back to stock rom, but i´m still not able to use Kies to update. I always get the message saying that the device cannot be updated with kies. Any help on how to get that working? I want it to work so the people buying the phone doesnt complain that updating is not working.
I´m hoping to get back to norwegian stock rom with kies able to update it.
I´m now running:
PDA: I9000XWJVH
PHONE: I9000XXJVO
CSC: I9000TENJV3
Anybody has some tips?
Thanks

You're gonna be waiting forever on Kies.
Your solution lies with usung Odin and flashing stock firmware from SamMobile.com.
Best of luck...

[Q] Kies says there is a firmware update, is this the way back to original firmware?

Hi.
My first thread here, thanks for all the work you folks putting in making our Galaxy a greate phone. Hope I dont start a thread that are already existing.
Yesterday I falshed my phone with the I9000XWJM2 firmware and experiensed something strange in Kies afterwards.
It told me that there was new firmware I could choose to install!! I havent experienced that before.
Is this a way to get back to the original firmware? I know from the FAQ that there are no way to do it, but what happens if I get KIES to install firmware?
Best regards,
Jens
hey jens are you sure kies offers you firmware ? or just update for KIES i mean update Kies destop software ?
It only shows up after I installed I9000XWJM2 and before SAMSET 1.8, as far as I have seen so far. Will try again tonight when im back from work.
I can see that other people in here is talking about new KIES version. I will check tonight whatever its firmware or KIES that it want to update.

Hi guys,
I have used Odin once before when I broke my phone, i have version I9000XXJPK
Can someone please tell me the version i need to download so that i have official 2.2 for UK spec?
There are so many numbers etc im getting lost off.
I have been on samfirmware and I just cant decide which version i need to be official.
My phone currently cant send SMS and ive read thats because of something wrong with the custom FW i have on. (it was like this when i bought it from the shop second hand)
Thanks

Hey there. It can be a bit confusing, but follow the notes on samfirmware and you should be fine. I upgraded from T-Mobile UK's stock firmware (I forget which version) to JPA, via JM4.
I am using JPA now (again, not sure which provider this is, but it seems to be fairly stock), with no problems.
Make sure you check the notes for each ROM (ie, some have an upgrade path, and some do not). You may need to use a different PIT file and partition accordingly.
Hope this helps.
Thanks mate,
All the release dates are old on Samfirmware, the official froyo for the uk wasnt released until November. the latest firmware on samfirmware is October....
Im really confused how i get from my FW to an official newest froyo. Kies wont work for me at all, tried 3 computers now.
Seriously, screw Kies. It wouldn't upgrade my unit (obviously as there was no provider firmware available), so I patched it with the util posted here and it flashed to about 50% then failed, thus bricking my phone in the process.
If you're not bothered about your provider bloaty junk that ships with the phone, you may as well just bite the bullet and flash JPA or JP0 via Odin. I doubt these are UK specific ROMs (as you mention, Froyo was slated for Nov here in the UK) as samfirmware's are all dated Oct 10, but my phone seems just fine- been using it for around 2 weeks now with no hitches.
Best of luck!
How about installing Doc Froyo custom rom?
It is using froyo 2.2

Samsung galaxy s update problems

Alright so I like to mess around with my phone a lot and have flashed many ROMS and whatever but am now going bqck to stock eclair 2.1 (which I downloaded from samfirmware.com) and I had trouble with the australian 2.2 from their site and kies won't give me an update can someone help me get kies to update my phone? thanks

Kies probably cannot find the correct network provider details on your phone to match any provided upgrade .
As you no longer have the supplied rom you will need to try the Kies Registry patch /Spoof post .To fool Kies into thinking its a genuine firmware for your phone .

[Q] Reverting to stock SGS - Warranty purposes

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the flashing world and need some guidance.
Current rom:
MODEL NUMBER GT-I9000
FIRMWARE VERSION 2.2.1
BASEBAND VERSION I9000XXJPY
KERNEL 2.6.32.9 root (at) SEP - 51 #1
BUILD NUMBER FROYO .XXJPY
Old Rom:
It was from vodafone, but i can't seem to find exactly what rom it is.
I had a problem with my stock SGS rom and was forced to flash it, but i now have a different rom installed on my SGS, the booting animation (for example) isn't from vodafone anymore.
And KIES doesn't recognize my current rom (for update), so i wanted to know how could i leave everything exactly like it was before. So that i could update to gingerbread the official way and still have a fall back plan.
One last thing, i used odin (v 1.3) to flash it, can i "safely" reverse from 2.2.1 to 2.2 (original from vodafone)? And how?
Thanks again for the help.
I'm very sorry for the long text.
Just use the wonderful & usefull searchbox and find this:
Rom list
Thank you for the reply, i've been on that thread, but still i don't know which is my rom and if the csc will be return to stock.
Thank you again

Stock is not the rom that came with the phone its stock Samsung rom .
You need to have saved your original rom or find somebody that did .
Your Vodaphone upgrade path through Kies will fail as you do not have a Vodaphone rom .
2.2 to 2.1 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .Just use 2.1 rom from samfirmware .
May help .

Thanks for the fast reply,
Are there any special precautions or guides to revert from 2.2.1 to 2.2?
With the csc. (i've flashed before but i only had one tar file, nothing else).

2.1 revert from 2.2 just flash should be ok problems reflash with pit 512 and repartition checked .

Also dont be to scared of vodafone. If you have a stock Samsung android, instead of the Vodafone, you still have warranty. Only thing that can happen is that when you send your phone in, they'll flash a Vodafone rom back on and you'll be having all the vodafone crap back on it.
Really? That's the best news i've heard, since i had this problem. Thanks a lot, how did you know this?

The terms and conditions do not say you can flash any old rom and not break your warranty .
The position is one with a stock rom you may get away with warranty repairs but it will depend upon who you take it to and even the guy picking up the phone .
Samsung service centre and they may well repair .
Vodaphone service centre and its clear that they do not have too repair as you have broken your terms of warranty with Vodaphone .
So rule one is a back up of your original rom will nearly always be the safest path it also allows you to use the Kies method for official firmware updates if you want to revert back .

Experience: I messed up 2 of my previous phones (SE and HTC) due to flashing firmwares and brought them to T-Mobile and Vodafone, telling them the phone got stuck in boot. They took them in and when I got them back, they had Vodafone and T-mobile firmware on them again.
But as jje stated, its offcourse always the best to have a backup of your phones firmware. Its always possible some annoying Vodafone guy pops up, and makes a big deal out of it.
Thanks for all the input,
I never wanted to flash my sgs, but i screwed up the original rom and the phone didn't boot so it was my last resort.
Due to that i didn't make a backup.
In kies i have my rom as KOR and it says that i can't update, if i that *#272#imei code and put it in XEU, would it work? In theory.

Is there a way to download ROMs from the Kies server so that they can be flashed manually at a later date? I'm thinking that if I need it, I can flash back to the latest H3G branded firmware for warranty purposes.

My gnote issue

hey all,
i'm new to the forums here at xda-developers but i'm in ire need of some advice/help if you would not mind sharing your experience.
Okay the issue.
I have a galaxy note gt-n7000, it will not update via kies or via the phone itself at all for months. I'm from England and i purchased it on contract from carphone warehouse; some vital information about the phone are as follows:
Android version - 2.3.6
Baseband version - N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-N7000LA6-CL907341 [email protected] #2
Build bumber - GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
CSC - XEU
I have tried several things to fix this such as:
Factory restting everything - the sd card, the phone... No eval.
Attempting to change the CSC to a different one from XEU
Waiting to see if any more updates are as followed
reconnecting/rebotting my phone to ensure the connection is okay to Kies
Another issue of this phone is that it will not download anything from the website such as bus timetable PPFs in which it used to be beforehand, i am completely stumped by it
thanks for your time to read this and hopefully help,
Nozz.
P.S I don't really want to root my phone cause my warranty will void otherwise.
have you updated the kies? use latest version of kies to update it should work.
Since youre factory resetting, i presume you dont care for any data loss... You can go to recovery (turn off phone then press and hold volume up+power+home until the phone turns on) then do the factory reset there... (this is not touch interface.. You have to use volume buttons and the power button to select your option):highfive:
I entrust you to do this since you said youre running 2.3.6 but DONT DO THIS if you manage to get to Ice cream sandwich!!! We can never stop reminding people of this... DONT EVEN DARE to factory reset under settings on a stock Ice cream sandwich n7000..

This method should work if your phone is still a "virgin"

Yeah, according to Kies it is the updated version, and i also updated a galaxy s2 with it to ICS the other day...
Will going into recovery mode then factory resetting it work ?
thanks for your help,
Nozz.
Just factory resetted it, and once again it is coming up with it saying it is not possible tp update Via Kies :/
And Kies is fully updated
Also another thing i forgot to mention, the phone wants an update has it says new firmware is available through downloading from the phone then installing that way, however when i try this, it all goes okay, reboots, comes up with the little andriod symbol then it stops at roughly 20%, reboots and says it was unsuccessful, try updating via samsung kies.
thinking of just getting rid of it, but it's a contract.... Sigh.
nozz.
somebody made a program that you can use instead of KIES, it is called Checkfus.
google for it, or search the forum, i am sure you will find it.

Hi there,
I would suggest not to update more on Kies as Kies sometimes KIES(OTA OR the PC one) is quite not more reliable sometimes, sometimes you can upgrade sometimes you can't.(Just like a woman on her monthly periods )
Anyway, I would you recommend by just flashing it thru PC ODIN. Download your stock ICS software from this page -> www.samfirmware.com and look for the firmware on your region. Flash it and you should be good to go.
:good:
i'm quite new to flashing phones, i've flashed computer motherboard bios, but i can get inside them and change the mobo if it goes wrong however i cannot do that with a phone :/
Which one is safe for my phone, considering it's current build etc?
Advice would be appreciated.
I can't seem to find firmware that is suited for my PDA, CSC and Phone codes... Or will any UK firmware work?
Nozz.

Here you go bud ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 (courtesy of Doc Ketan, of course)
If you narrow down a bit, there's a firmware for UK there(Carphone Warehouse to be exact)
According to CheckFus there is no such ICS update for my specific phone, aka pda/phone/csc.... hmm... and also i can't seem to find any roms for my specific phone either...
I really don't know what to do now
Could someone take alook at my numbers in my first post and help me, as i'm pretty much at the end of my tether with this phone
i'll relist my phones information:
PDA: N7000XXLA6
PHONE: N7000XXLPT
CSC: N7000XEULP4
Build Info: Friday, January 20 05:38:08 KST 2012
That build info looks slightly dodgy considering this is supposed to uk phone, and i'm pretty sure UK gingerbread didn't come out at that point... hmmm.. got me thinking.
anyhow
Thanks,
Nozz
