With the last upgrade of skype allowing video calls for some Android devices, Pulser_g2 succeed to make it available for other devices too.
I tried and is working on Galaxy tab 1000. Just uninstall the old version of skype and download the apk file from the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15235568&postcount=4907
Thank you so much. Works on my tab with the overcome rom. This will be great for when I'm travelingso I can skype with my kids without a laptop

I have deleted the old Skype and installed the apk file. When I ran the new Skype, I could only make voice call. Video call did not have any video image ( just black screen ) and force closed after a little while. Set video quality high or low results the same.
My tab is a Bell Canada tab with stock rom and SIM card not installed. Did I miss some settings or it won't work with the stock rom?

Skype video is working only with gingerbread. Under Froyo the video will not work. I flashed the Overcome Hermes Rom and Skype video is running perfectly.
Hi Manadus,
Thanks for your quick advice.
I am going to flash with Overcome Rom too. I would like to make a copy of existing ROM first just in case I need to return the tab for warranty repair. My ROM manager has CWM Recovery rev 2.5.1.8. I could not make ROM backup successfully with this CWM. I am trying to read all the threads to find out an easiest and safest way to make a ROM copy. Do you have any suggestions?
my stock ROM is P1000MUGJJ7.
Thanks.
Hi Uniserve,
I'm not expert but I think that you need to root your phone before making a full backup of your ROM. I faced the same problem while using ROM manager but after rooting the phone the problem was solved.

Hi Manadus,
My tab has already rooted. So far from what I read, the newer tab could not make Rom backup by CWM. I may need a new kernel or use Roto-backup. I will do more research. May be I will start another thread to ask for help.
Thanks.
For those of you using Kenneth's rom (me) or with some other way of working Google Talk video calls, I found a way to make it work over more than just wifi. I can't take the slightest credit for it, but considering that I couldn't find any Atrix specific information, I figured I would post this here. Worked great for me!

Excellent this works. You don't need Root Explorer neither "SQLite editor". Both costs money and does not anything in addition what free "SQLite explorer" will do.
This is confirmed as working for me on Kenneth ROMs.
Has anyone tried using the "easiest" method, [root] Talk 1.3 Installer? I tried using a few of those versions, following the instructions to restore back to the backed up Talk app, and none of them worked for me.... Don't know if it was something I did wrong, or what, but I'm not going too far out of my way to fix this when VTOK works sooooooooooo well, even over data!

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think installing a modified Talk app would brick the phone....... I have been wrong before though, so do what feels safer for you! I've swapped a few of them out and had no success, but also haven't had any serious issues like bricking the phone either.... I know going to a few of those will remove your Google account and all you have to do is re-enter your login and the phone will begin downloading all your mail, Picasa account, and Voice account back to it, which takes less than 5 minutes with a decent signal
I tried this app errors out swaying can't copy talk.apk

Yeah I can't imagine as likely either, but some of them sounded like they were messing with mounting and un-mounting system partitions in odd ways. Besides, it sounded like way more work to find one of those that worked, restart and flash multiple times, and so on, than to simply edit one word I would make an Atrix-specific flash for everyone if I knew how it was done, but sadly I don't.
To anyone that does know how: just make a zip that edits that one line in the .db file mentioned in the link of the first post. The app doesn't actually need updating.
As easy as this change is, I don't see the benefit of installing another app to perform the change. Also, I recommend paying for the SQL Lite and (I used root Explorer) apps if you find yourself using them for these types of changes. The developers should be supported when they provide tools that make it so easy to modify the Android system. Lets keep them motivated to continue making such awesome tools.
I can also confirm this worked on the leaked 4.5.91 (beta 4.5) from Kenneth.
Good find!!

Don't use any installers at all. All you need is already on the ROM. You have to go back to original ROM and follow guide above with no additional binaries installed from any other sources.

the modaco installed version does not work. if you used kenneth's GB ROM, then you already have the files. go into your system/app folder, rename talk.apk to talk.bak and rename talk2.apk to talk.apk. that's it.
I've factory reset, flashed redpill and tried again with kenneth one and still can't get the video to work. Doing nothing but installing gtalk.
I get the icon but when trying to start the video, the video chat process crashes and creates a core file.
Not really sure how to debug it further than opening the tombstone.
As the crash is systematic regardless of my ROM, may I ask what Radio are you guys using? I'm on 4.5.91,

I flashed Kenneth ROM then radio. Radio is 4.5.91. No video icon at first.
Then delete talk.apk, renamed talk2.apk to talk.apk, install new talk.apk and video icon appeared and started working on WiFi only.
Then edited database to allow to work over cell data and now it works over cell data as well.
I did not do anything else except from steps above and made it work with no crashes.

Thanks! That was the issue (I reflashed), the lib coming with the rom allows camera to come through.
Putting that file (attached) in /system/lib should resolve the issue for people who like me overwrote it (or used the Talk installer).

Does it work for both outgoing and incoming calls? I want to give this a try but seeing the bricking of several devices related to latest CWM, I think I'll have to wait for a while until some of the issues are resolved.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up! This is definitely another feature worth waiting for (aside from the official update to ICS for P7300 users).

I don't suppose this modem will work on stock Honeycomb 3.2 or the AOSP Jelly Bean? Or will it?
Seems nice, but i dont have the deodexed ics to try it
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
Or what if I flash the official P7310 ICS and then add this modem into it?... hmmm
Well, the modem seems to work with Honeycomb but since there is no Dialer in there, it does not respond to incoming calls nor is it able to dial using GO Contacts EX.
I hope stock ics for 7300 to ebable voice calls... Let's wait and see...
If Samsung didn't enable GSM voice for the 10.1 (P7500) stock ICS, I don't think they'll have a change of heart and enable it for 8.9 (P7300). But still, it will be a dream come true if they did.
One of the reasons I bought the 8.9 because of the early reviews from GSM Arena saying it had voice. But that would be like crying over spilled milk wouldn't it?
I just hope they resolve the bricking issues from the other threads so we can try instructions here without fear of losing our tabs in the process.
What enrages me the most is that stock Honeycomb 3.2 has a Phone.apk and a TelephonyProvider.apk present in system/app but they will neither install, not show up in the App drawer.
If I only knew what configuration files block these apk's from registering... since this modem here works fine under Honeycomb...
I need the knowledge to unfu*ck what Sam-Sung did.
gsm voice call working on ics
Finally obtained to work over the ics in the development forum, ported from p7500.
The trick is to modificate framework-res.apk and enable this function.

There is a risk bricking your device, under my point of view if you have used some moment last 6.x version of CWM. But do a read around other threads and only go ahead if you are pretty sure.
It is quite easy, except the fact i had to install again HC but i think the problem is with the CW version. I think no tisk with 5.5.4.
- install the modem as described in the first post. I have used it over 3.1, 3.2 from hcomb and from ICS (cyanogenmod v 9 and the adapted version made in development form from official 7500).
- install a rom with support for phone. I have checked .
Between both do your reboot as usual.
Now is the moment to change the framewor-res.apk to support phone applications.
I have attachedthe file update.zip refered to forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835031
Comments
1 to check if the new modem works, just phone to the tablet. If the line is not busy it should be working.
2 i cannot manage the voice over bluetooth headset
Can you be more specific about editing framework-res?
The thread that you linked to does not have an update.zip anywhere.
Disregard last post
I managed to get GSM voice calls working on stock Honeycomb 3.2.
After many efforts with different versions of apk decompile tools I managed to get the framework-res.apk with voice calls to work.
In effect the App Drawer now shows a Phone icon and the Contacts app now shows an option to dial a number.
I am attaching my working framework-res.apk which should work for anyone with a P7300 on a stock Honeycomb 3.2 ROM. I also have the I9003 modem installed but this might work with the stock baseband on your devices. Try and see.
If it doesn't, then flash the I9003 modem as per OP.
Push the framework-res.apk via ADB. Or use RootExplorer or equivalent to replace framework-res.apk in /system/framework and reboot.
Consider using ex Dialer from Play Store to be able to punch in numbers by hand.
Bluetooth headset is not working. Most likely something missing form build.prop. Will investigate.
Has someone else tried?
Correct me if I am wrong:
from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875024
get the files and follow the instructions:
For [ROMs based Samsung Stock ICS 4.0.4 Deodex OR Odex]
1- Reboot to Recovery Mode.
2- Make a Full Backup. [Recommend]
3- Install File CWM_I9103XXLQ3_Modem.zip
4- Install File Voice Call Enable [Stock] ICS 4.0.4 ROM Build 1.zip
5- Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache.
6- Reboot the tab and enjoy voice call.

Honeycomb oes not support video calling over gsm networks. In fact, even in Gingerbread on Samsung devices that ha video calls, the feature was sort of hacked into Android to work. Android source code releases do not contain anything related to nativee video calling, I believe. Hence there was never an AOSP custom ROM that had them.

Hi - I have so far avoided trying to get GSM voice calls working on my P7300 because I thought I would have to install a custom ROM, and I prefer to keep things as maintenance free / easy as possible. BUT... it sounds like you have installed the standard ICS rom for your p7300, and you've got the dialer working? Has anyone else managed this with the P7300XXLQ6 ICS Rom from Samsung Austria?

Hey all,
The GTalk video call fc bug on CM10 has been discussed sparsely in various threads and in order not to spam/pollute them even more with posts regarding the issue i decided to make a new one, just to figure out if it really works ok for some and why's that. Recently it was mentioned that if one flashes the Xoom modded gapps (by EOS team - found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777987) he'll get video call running since the EOS team has modded the package in order to work with non-NEON devices (or something like that - haven't been able to find clear documentation in their thread). I flashed said gaps package and, even though the phone is able to initiate the video call in the background, i get a foreground 'unfortunately gtalk has closed' or so message. Thats definitely better than before when the program was simply crashing, but doesn't solve the issue. Audio calls run fine though. Pengus mentioned that he wiped dalvik/cache, flashed EOS gapps, rebooted and rebooted again and it worked. Didnt happen for me, still same issue on video calls. I must also note that even b4 flashing EOS gapps, i was able to do video calls and even videoconference (3 way video call) using G+ hangouts, so it must be a program specific issue more than a general android libs situation (excuse my ignorance - doing my best to understand how things work in this OS ). So how do this run for you people? Is there anyone who managed to get it running fine on CM10, and if yes, can you give some details on your current setup? Also, if you did manage to get it running, did you follow a different flashing procedure than the one mentioned here? Thanx for your replies/participation
My current setup: CM10 3/1 nightly, old BL, v28e BB, EOS gapps
Peace

Hi,
here is what I did to solve this: I just took the libvideochat_jni.so from the eos-package and pushed it to /system/lib. Afterwards I cleared gtalk data and cache, restarted the device. Finally I could do video-calls
I've also attached the libvideochat_jni.so I used, maybe someone can make a flashable zip from it. I'm on pengus latest rom+kernel by the way.

You need to take from eos Talk.apk, libvideochat_jni.so, libvideochat_stabilize.so and check, if you have original /system/lib/hw/camera.tegra.so. If you experimented with ICS cam, camera.tegra.so possibly changed.

EDIT: Nevermind, found them.
/system/app/Talk.apk
/system/lib/libvideochat_stabilize.so
Oh, and you should take libs from optional/noneon/lib folder in eos archive
Don't forget about permissions and owner (644 root:root)

Sorry you've confused me a bit now. Take which libs from optional/noneon/lib folder? libvideochat_stabilize.so and libvideochat_jni.so only, isnt it? Because these files also exist in the EOS package in system/lib. And permissions/owner for which files?

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum.
Many people got phone calls on stock ICS, then changed to 4.2.2 and lost it
But while seeking the forum, I GOT IT AT LAST!!
Although, it has a bug, which is when u receive a call and slide the call button, as soon as u press it it says "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped working", but it might work perfectly on other ROMS
I tested it on Infamous ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220912
Here it is :
Format System (No data wipe required if ur reflashing same rom)
Install ROM, Gapps, and the file attached
Fix permissions (just incase)
Dont reboot untill u do all of that, as in dont reboot in the middle of the procedure.
There u have it
Please tell me if it worked
EDIT : works perfect on infamous 1.7.2, just extract the zip file, paste all the files in their place, and keep the phone.apk untouched (keep the original phone.apk Cruz it works)
P.S : i really appreciate Khomsn for making the CM10.1 build with phone calls, but that build is REALLY laggy.
Thank you everyone.
P.P.S : u have to flash i9103DXLP2 modem (has to be that number specifically) really important to do, link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40754968&postcount=15 (thanks John Kester )

I can make a call and stoping with push end when i'm tryng calling, on my tab sounded a ringer and working fine for receive call. everything is working fine to me.
Thanks for the effort, but this isnt working for me. I cant even get the phone apk to show anywhere. Im not even sure ifi t installs one. If there is another installation method that isnt mentioned here but that I need to do please refer me to that. Otherwise after flashign th one file above and fixing permissions I get no phone apk to even test this. Im on the infamous rom as well.

Umm... i just installed the phone.apk from Khomsn's thread as a normal apk and that seemed to fix my problem.
Otherwise. Just push the phone.apk in /system/app/ and fix permissions (i dont think fixing permissions is neccesary but i just do it incase)
Yea, Ive done that a few times and I cant get phone.apk to show in the apps list after install.

Consider installing gapps that contains a phone apk after which you flash the phone fix above. Your tab should make calls flawlessly but know that the speaker is set to off by default so you have to activate it when making a call.

Ok thanks for the reply I do need a link to the GAPPS with a phone apk though , unless of course the GAPPS for the tab 10.1 comes with it but why would it. If Im wrong please let me know.
EDIT: Ok so my bad, looks like I need a 3g tab and I have a wifi tab. Thanks for the help nevertheless.
Do search for gapp of 20121212, it contains a phone apk. Gapps for custom roms often contain the apk.

i think it's the META-INF that's the issue.
i'll try to put them in another zip and reply.
BTW: i've got a build of infamous aokp with phonecalls "without the need to do anything" but i think im gonna need permission to upload it.
But for the time-being, i think installing the phone.apk like a normal app will work "iv'e tried it out of curiosity and it actually installed )
but i still don't know why com.android.phone keeps FCing after opening mobile data in settings or when answering a call. Anybody got any tips.
