[Q] Galaxy S CM7 flash gone wrong - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I recently flashed my SGS I9000 with CM7, but did not realize that it must be flashed twice. So now every time i try to flash a new rom (MIUI and such) it cuts back to the CM7 splash screen, begins to unpack, then repeats for eternity. It finally flashed a JVS 2.3.5 stock rom for it using Odin. So does anyone have an explanation for what is happening and possibly a way to fix it?

When you flash cm first time you obviously need to do it twice. However when you flash next time don't use reboot system now option but power it off and than turn it on manually

[Q] Clockworkmod Completely messed up

I decided today I was going to switch my ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate so I first tried to switch to Andromeda 3. It would not install so I restored my back up to the first back up I made that was the stock ROM after rooting and tried again to install Andromeda 3. So it finally installed but I didn't like it so I found a really cool ROM called Mosaic LINK-(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892973) which I installed. Now whenever I start up my phone I get a whole bunch of colored lines going across my screen but strangely enough it goes to the boot loader and works great but now I cannot get into recovery.
Every time I attempt to get into recovery I get the colorful lines across my screen and it freezes. I tried to flash the Clockworkmod recovery but it gives me only 4 model options to chose from (Galaxy S i9000, GalaxyS i9000 (MTD), Google Nexus S, and Nexus S 4G). I have tried flashing it to the Galaxy S i9000 but does not fix the problem.
I have looked on google trying to find a solution to my possibly corrupted recovery but cannot find anything similar and would love to hear some opinions on this because of right now I am stuck with the ROM forever.
Thank you

I don't have the same phone but since I root it I got those lines. Now, do you get in recovery by pressing vol-down and power at the same time?

OP there are instructions on post 2 of the mosaic thread that you did not follow you were supposed to flash stock I9000 gingerbread first to update your bootloaders THEN flash a kernel that has cwm with odin and THEN flash the rom, but since you've already flashed mosaic use this to update the bootloaders and it will solve your issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180807
Next time please post in the rom specific q&a thread to keep the forum from getting cluttered that's why they're there.
dalek823,

Thanks for the referral.
So I am going to try this fix you guys are suggesting with the i9000 boot loaders but I have a question. Will I need to reinstall boot loaders for I897 in the future then if I want to go back to the ROMs I used in the past and from now on do I have to use ROMs for i9000 only?
Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it
No they are backwards compatible but to down grade to froyo flash a froyo kernel with odin and then flash the rom in cwm.
DO NOT FLASH THE 3 BUTTON FIX WITH GINGERBREAD BOOTLOADERS. it will mix a gingerbread primary and a froyo secondary and will HARD BRICK you're phone.
What do you mean, I shouldnt flash the 3 button fix?, how do I avoid that?
They are a zip and a .tar package to fix broken button combos. they were made for eclair/froyo but flashing them on gingerbread will brick the phone.
So to avoid doing that just don't flash either of those...
Ok, I will avoid any flashes to fix buttons. Thank you for all your help and I am happy to say my phone now goes into recovery again.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
You're welcome

[Q] Boot loop with every ICS rom

I've been trying to get ICS on my Galaxy S but every single ICS rom I install causes my phone to bootloop.
I'm on JVU firmware in combination with:
This is the December 29, 2011 / Android 2.3.6 / JVU / Value Pack ? build:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
So far I've tried to flash CM9, Slim ICS and Team ICSSGS RC4.2.
What happens when I try to flash any of these roms:
Progress bar show up, it starts installing
At 5% phone reboots
Boot logos show up
Phone enters recover again and some lines of text show up (not long enough to be able to read but looks like error messages)
After less than 1 second the phone reboots again and the process repeats itself
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Would be much appreciated because this issue has left me frustrated and I just want to have working ICS on my phone.
Thanks in advance.
When installing ICS over the top of Gingerbread there is a requirement to Flash the ROM twice.
Once to upgrade the bootloader to ICSSGS 4.2 version and second for the ROM to fully install.
I did this and was able to successfully upgrade to ICS.
Searching the thread for ICSSGS 4.2 would have provided the answer for this issue.
If this is unsuccessfull flash back to a gingerbread ROM using Odin Darky's 10.2 worked for me. allow the phone to fully boot. then retry you ICS ROM
Before flashing ICS you also must disable anny lagfix that is applied.
I tried flashing twice already, didn't work. I'm flashing darky 10.2 atm and will try flashing an ics rom again when it's done. Thanks for the tip.
I had kind of the same problem, although my boot loop was a little different i think. I Odin'd Darky's 10.1 a few times, but in the end also tried 9.2. That worked. No idea of that made the difference, you could give it a try.

Allright flashing Darky's 10.2 first and then ICS twice was the solution, so weird. Thanks for the help

[Q] Bootloop when trying to flash ICS rom.

So first i'll explain whats the problem.
I went from Slim ICS to stock android 2.3.5 XXJVT. After that I flashed the rooted kernel via Odin, including CWM.
So I got to the recovery and wiped everything and flashed the a cm9 nightly, this was in the instructions SlimICS If coming from stock GB. While installing it stopped after a few seconds and rebooted to recovery where a few lines came up amd rebooted again, alot of red letters flashed between the reboots and it kept rebooting.
I have tried other roms with a similar result:
-After install, comes to kernel loading screen reboots straight into recovery.
-Tried infinitum, succesfully installed actually started OS but got an error acreen in android itself, saying something about encryption or something (forgot it).
I know this is a long story but i've been trying to flash ics again for a lot of hours with a lot of fixes but nothing succesfull.
I hope you guys know more then me. If you need more info please ask, im pretty issed of by phone right now.
Thanks
On I9000
Pull out the battery.put back in.go to recovery and flash again.reboot.
It's does this because u need to be on an ics kernel for it to flash the rom properly.it's perfectly normal.don't worry
It only happens when upgrading the os or flashing cm9 the FIRST time

[PLEASE HELP] I cant install JB or even ICS because of downgrade

I have had my captivate for a while now and I have had a few problems with flashing Cyanogen based Roms since I went to CM7 then back to stock a while back.
I had CM7 running fine and went up to CM9 for months. I just recently went to REMics and had a problem with the sound and at the same time I had problems with my power button I the flashed to Paranoid Android for a few hours and was driving around so I took my phone to the AT&T warranty center to see about them replacing it and im out of warranty so I had them flash it to stock now I cant get my phone to CM7 I can get it to run Serendipity just fine but no CM7 can someone PLEASE help? It seems like I need to COMPLETELY clear the phone of all old rom data. Any solutions?
Try using one of these Stock I897UCKK4 Android 2.3.5 One Clicks and then flash the KK4 Corn Kernel version 7.0A to get the CWM Recovery u need to move on to what you are wanting to flash per that Rom's specific install instructions.
Done that
I have put my phone back to stock KK4 with and without bootloader. I had this problem before when I was going to CM7 the second time. Its just getting SO annoying now. Thanks though!
I forgot to say that when I go to flash the rom through CWM it starts reboots the phone the samsung Cyanogen screen comes up flashes onces then goes into CWM flashes a few things quickly and the last image I see is the "dead" androind laying on its back with the sign aboveits open front door.
I'm starting to think there is no help. Maybe I can trade my friend my captivate for his.
Have you tried flashing CM7 again after you see that CWM screen? I've always had to flash CM7 twice for it to take - once to get the MTD setup in place, a second time to actually flash the rom. You'll have to hold down V+/V-/Power to get to recovery while it's looping, but once it's there, try flashing CM7 again.

I have tried with cm9 but not 7. I will try that once I get sick of Serendipity. I just set everything back up on this rom and installed my apps so I will wait a few more days.
Thanks You!

I tried to flash a new ROM on my Galaxy S Plus i9001. After I did that my phone kept trying to boot and the samsung animation keeps showing on the screen but the system does not load. I tried to fix the problem by flashing a stock rom with Odin but the problem persists. I cannot go into recovery mode. I can only go into download mode. I also tried oneclick unbrick but it still does not work. Please HELP! I am STUCK! Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!!
Which ROM you were before this happens, and what ROM you are trying to install. If you want help, help you first. Hardly anyone here has a magic ball. Give some info...

Well it had CyanogenMod 9 ICS 4.0.4 on it and I tried to flash a stock ROM (Gingerbread 2.3.6). Now all I get is a bootloop
Have a try with bootload fix.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
First you need to flash a custom ROM based on Gingerbread(Ginger Revenge, Shadow0-Rom, broodROM Business Edition v1.2 ...) via CWM, and then flash with Odin. Although the phones are the same model, they not have a same work. Try also a CWM>wipe all. Almost every time, if i come back from 4.0.4 to stock 2.3.5 with Odin, i got a bootloop. Don't worry, be happy. Just flash custom GB, then live your live...:victory:
