Thinking about getting one.
Can someone provide lock times in airplane mode (without any kind of A-GPS assistance)?
I have a Nexus-S now and it's GPS is a bit slow in my liking (in airplane mode) as I dont have a data plan at the moment.
The GPS lock time tend to be around 2-5 seconds for me. The Note does also support regular GPS and the russian GLONASS, so it's fast and stable.

2-5 seconds in Airplane mode?
gps locks in less than 10 seconds and i see up to 17 satellites. i wonder how it differs from my galaxy s because at the very same location where i stand, i only get up to 9 satellites and it took up to 30 seconds to lock.
4 seconds in offline mode.

Gnote is better than normal GPS devices.
Brilliant.
Flightmode, 4-5sec to lock on 6sats (16 in view) after 30sec lock on 12sats. Online it never locks on less then 16sats, even indoor.

I am looking for some feedback on the GPS built into the new AT&T Tilt.
What is the accuracy of the GPS?
What is the sensitivity of the radio? (does it loose signal when you get in your car? in heavily wooded areas?)
How long does it take to obtain GPS Satellite Signal? (15 seconds? 30 seconds? 2 minutes?)
How much battery does it suck down?
Can it work with multiple programs at the same time? (Windows Live and another program at the same time?)
Can't really comment on accuracy, but it has me plotted on the correct roads on Google Maps and MS Live Search.
GPS reception is fine in the car, although initial satellite lockings seems faster when I put the phone on the dash. After that, I can pretty much put the phone anywhere near the drivers seat.
Takes a minute to a couple minutes for me to get a fix.
Its sucks batteries fast. Slightly faster then the trickle charger is charging the phone. So on a long drive, I imagine you will kill the battery on the Tilt using the GPS.
Don't know about the last question.

Havent tried that yet, meaning using google maps & windows live?
I've only had it working for a short time, but based on what i've read its fairly accurate (someone got it within 15', mine was within 30' but that was google maps and i dont think it does off-road)
I established the connection on my porch (so i could use my wifi) and it followed me inside the house. 9 satellites outside, 6 in my chair. its a small house, but still nearly completely obstructed due to rain clouds and being indoors
If you use a program like GPSTest or GPSViewer to establish the connection first, they go very quickly. otherwise it may run into some problems connecting due to the timeout settings.
battery power no idea...
As mentioned earlier, i try a light weight program to establish the initial connection and the actual program to use it. from what i've seen you can see two but not sure how well it'll work n the end.
hey i got my tilt, I really don't know how things works, I mean I installed live search on it, but you know I can't get the current GPS postion, how does this thing work? anyone? can you guys tell us the steps for those of who are new to this whole GPS thing, thanks

I noticed this too.
Is there a way to fix this?
It is very annoying.
With a car charger I should be able to at least keep the battery at the same level.
(PS: I am using a car-to-USB adapter and the USB/Sync cable that came with the tilt)
Back when I was using the att flash, I'd need to use a program to jumpstart gps. It'd take about 2 minutes. Afterwards, I could use google maps without issue. But if I drove around, I'd constantly be losing the gps and need to hit retry.
Then I flashed to htc. Google maps always picked up the lock in about 10 seconds. I'd still lose it if I drove around.
But then a few days ago, google maps stopped picking up gps. Even using other programs, I'd run it for over 10 minutes without getting a lock. Haven't gotten gps working at all in the past few days. Not sure what's going on. Hopefulyl a future firmware will fix this. Not going to bother with it for the time being. Being able to use google maps is really enough. gps is pretty silly to me.

Accuracy -- I can't speak as to "within x meters", but I can tell you that when using it with mapping software, the location fix is right on the money as to where it shows me being in the car.
Length of time to obtain a signal -- after the initial "fix", I can open my mapping software and in the length of time it takes to select my destination, it has already paired with the GPS chip.
Battery Life -- I keep my Tilt on the car charger when using GPS -- at least, I did until a few days ago. I forgot to plug it in to the cigarette lighter and the battery was dead running the GPS constantly in 5 hours.
Multiple apps at once -- Can't comment on that one.
When I use telenav , most of the time it is accurate close to about 15 feet.
Does anyone know a application that makes it possible that the phone switches to 2G when i has been on standby for maybe 15min. And then when a application like Opera needs internet access then it switches back to 3G.
Could be cool cause i would save a lot of power.
That would be great! Also because I don't like the idea of 3G whenever there's no wifi around. I know it doesn't do anything but I have bad experiences with WAP (long time ago I know ) going on randomly and staying on for hours, resulting in sky-high bills
The manual says that the battery lasts longer in 3G than in GSM in waiting mode, in conversation is the opposite.
Theres also the fact it takes about 30 seconds to disable the phone, switch to 2g, and re-enable the phone then get a signal again. It may be fine going from 3g to 2g when in you're pocket and not using the phone but when you wake it up that 30 seconds will get annoying, itll make the phone slower while its switching and the process itself uses battery power
Do you leave your GPS / WiFi on all day? I never leave the GPS on due to I believe it kills my battery in half the time. Though using a weather widget I would like to have it update based on my current location. WiFi is odd, I have the sleep policy set to turn off when screen is off but I have a feeling it only works 50% of the time. Also with GPS talk what is sensor aiding?
Any apps out there that can best control there features so I can leave them on at all times?
Thanks

I never use GPS.
Sometimes I let WIFI stay on for a whole day, mostly becuse I forget to turn it off.
I usually just shut mine off unless I am using them. I am consistently checking my notifications, so I notice if one is left on when I shouldn't need to use it.
You can try using the power control widget on your home screen. That way you can easily see what is on/off.
GPS is off unless I'm using it but WIFI is always one so long I know where ever I'm at has a connection. I've noticed my phone uses more battery while WIFI is on disconnected than actually connected. Although it is possible to fix that by tweaking wifi search intervals (I'm just lazy about it)
I leave them on all the time. I do toggle bluetooth depending on when I want it. I can't really see any significant abnormal drain due that.
I use GPS TEST app to test the gps functionality of my Note 5 and it seems that the gps will jump most of the time from 6 to 12 meters of accuracy when i'm outdoors and very rarely hit 4 meters or 3, no matter how many sattelites are in use (usually more than 10 and most of the time even 20+, which is great). it feels like a software calibration thing - my older devices would show 3-4 meters consistently when the reception was good ; I also noticed that my movement in Waze seems to update more slowly when compared to other devices.
How's the situation with yours?
didn't realize it could go that low 4m accuracy. how does it impact your usage of GPS when u get only 6m-12m accuracy?
Civilian gps devices are restricted to 3m. Military gps devices can get even more precise. Back to your question - It doesn't seem to effect it for driving purposes, but if I use apps such as Runtastic, it feels a bit off track.
So... How's the accuracy of your Note 5's? Did you manage to get a constant 3-4 meters?
Hello, I bought my Oneplus 3T recently and I'm using stick ROMwith ElementalX. The main problem I found is that everytime I look at what consumed the highest percentage of my battery are things like WA, Google Play Services, etc. If I click on the to see what is happening, I always get the Mobile Radio Active working like pretty much all the time.
For example, in a normal use for me which is between 26-30 hours until I decide to charge my phone(between 10-20%), I get a SoT of 4 hours and a half more or less. The problem is that from the total percentage of battery used, these applications which have the Mobile Radio Active problem drain between 10-15% of the total amount of battery, while my screen is like 7% of that total value.
Researching on XDA, I couldn't get any solution to this problem. I call this a problem because, every day I see new photos from people with between 7-9 h of SoT in maybe 20 hours of use. Of course, you can't really call this a bad performance of my phone but I think that this difference of hours with screen on is greater than the amount of time my phone stays with my screen off.
As a consequence, I wanted to know if there is a solution or some tips to reduce that Mobile Radio Active bug in order to extend the time between charges.
Thnk you very much.
Additional information: I cleaned flash stock today + ElementalX kernel + SuperSu to see if this kind of bug dissappears.
To "solve" the Mobile Radio Active bug you must take some extreme steps:
First, Root your device. This MUST be SuperSu unfortunately, as the app I'm going to suggest doesn't allow you to toggle the required settings with Magisk or Phh.
Install LeanDroid.
In settings, allow disabling of Wifi, Cellular Data, Bluetooth, Network Location and GPS Location.
Set to "0 min" after screen off. Click "Except".
Configure this screen to your taste, but I have "Except if tethering", "Except if charging (AC). Under Wifi I have "Except if connected to <my home WIFI>" and I have "Except if active: Limit" set to 100KB/s.
Bluetooth "Except if connected"
Location "Except if GPS in use"
and "Network Mode except if original strength OK."
Go back to the main panel.
Restore "After Screen Unlocked"
"Every 60 MIN after screen off" (Configure this to your liking)
With SuperSU and the above, turning the phone screen off disables the data modem when the transfer rate is low, this effectively shuts down the radio and prevents the Mobile Radio Active bug.
Run this with tools like Greenify and ForceDoze to really pump your battery life.
It's not unusual for me to see 8 hour screen on time with these apps and the above configuration.
and without root?
Just curious, how is the status of this bug ? I followed that Bug for like 1.5Years...since Lollipop i think. I myself tryed several things in Sultans ROMs in a OnePlusOne, but no Solution so far ;-(
Bug is still active. As far as I can tell, it remains active in Oero too.
The only option if you are not rooted is to close all apps and toggle airplane mode before you switch the screen off. This only solves the issue until the next time data is accessed by any app, though
THX for reply. Jepp on Wifi i get 4-5days @3-4h SOT. On Mobile only 2 days

Obviously, it takes more power to send/receive signals to a cell tower 10 miles away, versus a WiFi router that is 20 feet away.
Also using WiFi doesn't ensure the modem is Switched off. Modem power doesn't mean data.

This this bugs even remain active in Oreo i will never use android again.
It's existed since Lollipop and I doubt Google will fix it any time soon.
To get 7 hours of on screen time, you will of course have to sacrifice something, the laws of physics are always with us, reminding us from day to day things that can and can't be done. But hey, if you live in a cardboard box next to a cell tower should give you much better battery time without sacrificing the phone-part of your smart device. ? ?
