He did a great job on Droid 2 and it would be great to have him with cvpcs working on the bionic
Been using CM7 for awhile on Fascinate and Droid, I am still hmm not quiet sure I want to put CM on Bionic...soo much bugs, so unstable..eheheh

CVPCS already has a bionic, and has been working on it since about launch day. He had it booted in about a day.
This phone will get CM7 no matter who you vote for. If I were you guys, I would vote for a non CM7 person (like Nitro or Liquid) so we can get some variety.
Just my 2 cents...

Those guys are already out of the running. There was a tie between Rev and Framework earlier today and there's now a 1v1 vote up to be the tie breaker.
And then along came Debbie Downer:

Ok, I see lots of "cm7 ftw" type comments. I thought my post in the other thread would be enough, but maybe it should be said again.
AOSP/MIUI will not come to this phone anytime in the foreseeable future. Let me break it down like this.
Remember on the Evo back before shinzul and toast got wimax working? We are kinda in the same position again. Here we are, faced with devices that contain a totally new form of data. One that isn't available in the aosp repos. One that we have no reference code for. One that the code is different for on each lte device.
Your first question is probably, "Well they did it on the Thunderbolt, why not the Bionic?" Fair question, and seeing as we got aosp and lte on that device witgout the help of cm, I think I'm in a position to answer it. The thunderbolt runs a qualcomm chip, unlike the charge and the bionic. Qulacomm has this nifty little site called Code Aurora Forums. CAF is where all the lte code came from. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but neither slayher nor xoomdev wrote 99% of the lte code. The difficult part with the bolt was making it all work with our existing rom code.
This code WILL NOT work on non qualcomm devices, I would hope that goes without saying.
So where's that leave us you ask? SOL. Or **** out of luck for those of you who don't know l33t sp3ak.
Remember my comment about wimax and team w1n? Those guys literally wrote the wimax code FROM SCRATCH. And it took FOREVER. The evo just got wimax on aosp months ago, and how long was the device out for?
What's this all actually mean you ask? It means don't expect with one of these guys to bring miui or cm7 or anything non blur based to this device. Not that I think either of these guys arent amazing devs, they both are. No disrespect to either one, but I think even they would agree that they aren't up to the challange of writing lte literally from nothing.
Also, one more thing on the wimax-evo/lte-bionic comparison. Yea, before the evo got wimax, it still had 3g and was a perfectly functional Rom. In this case its going to be a little different.
DISCLAIMER
The follow statements are the only thing in this post I ccannot 100% back up. I'm 99% of their correctness, but could be wrong.
With my experience with lte, its all or nothing. You don't get working 3g and no 4g. You get it all or you get basically an ipodtouch. Nothing but wifi.
Now, someone did mention that the bionic has seperate radios, unlike the bolt. They used this as an argument that 3g can be fixed before 4g is made to work. My argument against that is to look at the current cm7 build for the bionic. No data. No 3g. Data is RARELY an obstacle for aosp on devices. Usually only when something weird is going on, like what Samsung does, or where lte is involved.
Again, I could be wrong. But I doubt it.
Tldr : Quit expecting aosp on this device. And if you ***** out whoever wins for not getting aosp booted, I will personally print out this post, find you and shove it down your throat.

The only reason it hurts so much is because it's likely 100% true :'(
Why would I want anyone wasting their time on CM7 for Bionic? I know that it's fun to get hold of lots of new ROMs and spend all your free time every evening trying new ones, but it's going to take a while and in the meantime, there's this Ice Cream Sandwich thing (anybody else heard of it) that's coming out.
Love the CM offerings; CM7 was fun on my Eris... but would be as enticing as Eclair with modded Sense on my Bionic! Anybody have a good reason to pursue this further aside from new toys???
The more the merrier?

Ok, soooooo I'm switching over from the Droid Incredible 2 to the Droid 3 due to absolutely horrid reception issues. I never get higher than -100dbm anywheres, and this is the 4th one I'm on. So, Verizon is sending me a "certified like new" Droid 3. My first question is what is everyone's experience with reception. Does everyone have a rather good experience with the reception or is it kind of iffy? Secondly, what's the modding scene like? Is there like a "popular" mod out for the D3 sort of like what Cyanogenmod is for the Incredible 2?
Thanks.
I had an HTC Eris and it also had reception issues. I've had the D3 since Monday and it's much, much better. dbm seems to be a little bit better, but calls are clear, no stutters, etc.
I haven't rooted, but there is a development forum here. I'm sure that you'll find out all that you'd want to know from there.

I had an Inc1, had my eye on the Inc2 but it just wasn't good enough for me, so I waited a while then went with the D3 in July.
As for reception on the D3, it is amazing. My Ince would be between 75-85 in Houston (bigass city), but now I'm in Waco (tiny little ****hole, lol) and get constant 60's on the D3. So reception is way better.
Also, for the modding scene, there's 4 options right now. There's Steel Droid, Monster rom, DarkDroid (mine), and an alpha build of CM7.

Heh, I'm in New Iberia, LA and it's just like Waco. At least the part I'm in lol. Glad to hear that in the tiny little ****holes, there is still hope for reception! Thanks for the listing of roms. I'll go have myself a little peek at them and see what's what. Hopefully the "certified like new" doesn't mean "it works, yet it's all discombobulated from people screwing with it before" lol.
Edit: I'm looking at your ROM dp and it looks pretty nice. So I'm guessing that since there is CWM recovery, that you can just flash a ROM like on the DInc and the DInc2 by going into CWM and installing from zip, correct?
Edit 2: I was also looking around, it seems there are 2 versions of the Droid 3? Or am I just losing my mind? lol
Hrm... 2 versions? There are three models: The XT883 comes from China, the XT862 is Verizon ONLY in the USA (Can never be used on any other provider in the USA even if unlocked), and the XT860 from Bell Mobility Canada, which will work on any network in North America if unlocked as far as I know (this is what I have on AT&T).

What he said previously, lol. Bu tyeah, Tehere are three models out there. CT862 (verizon droid 3), XT860 (bell/canada), and XT883 (i think) for china/asia. idk, im drubnk outt amy mind, lol.
But ywes, it works exactly like cwm did on our old Incs, just flash things like noraml in cwm. but makes sure to always have a currwnt bacjup just in case. And also, aftet installing a rom, ALWAYS go back into your bootstrap app and tap/click/press "bootstrap recovery" to reinstall recovery. cuz when you flash a rom, it breqaks 2nd init. So you need to reflash recovery each time you flash a rom.

Ok, I guess you answered my next few questions then haha. So steps are to 1-click-root then reboot. Flash your rom like normal and then upon rebooting, I'd go into bootstrap and flash recovery again, correct? Is that bootstrap app thing included in all the roms releases or do I just keep a copy of it on my computer and just transfer it to my phone after every flash?
Also, if after flashing a ROM, my phone encounters a bootloop, what do I do? Can I still access the recovery in some fashion to flash my nandbackup or will I have to do extra things to fix it?

Interesting. I guess the Chinese love knocking off a good phone lol. Has anyone had the issues of the slider mechanism either going out or going bad and it creating a really bad "grinding" feeling when you slide it up or have had it loosen up so that when you hold it horizontal it just slides down automatically w/ no effort on your part or had it loosen up so that the keyboard feels like its about to come loose from the device altogether?

I had the MS1 for almost one year, and although te mechanism was not pleasant like the ones seen on the Europeans phones (because not assisted) it was robust enough, on D3 is the same if not better: not assisted, not silky, but robust and not loose.

Well, the way ROMs work on the d3, you keep all your apps and data when you flash something. So you only need to install the bootstrap app once, but you still need to open the app and reinstall the recovery each time.
If you bootloop immediately after flashing a rom, you probably have to SBF (unless you're bootlooping because of a metamorph and you were able to reinstall the recovery). Check out the dev section for the SBF, im posting from my phone atm so I can't link you.

If the sbf are available (they are) is almost impossible to brick (in an unrecoverable way) a motorola phone, because the locked bootloader.

We have liberty, that's enough for me. Liberty was all I ran (I tried others but always went back) on my Droid X, with my thunderbolt I only ran BAMF roms. I would like to see more customizable options like power control widget in the notification pull down.
Unfoetinitaly I agree. Having had the evo 4G and the thunderbolt, Dev for this phone seems dead.

I disagree. Liberty was released just a few weeks ago, the the30ry dev has released two new ROMS, one of which was just updated yesterday, and eclipse will have a 5.7.893 update here soon. In addition, there are devs working to get ICS working on the bionic, and a CM7 project (although I don't know if that's in the works any longer as they have announced CM9 for January). I will say that few of these devs seem to be active on XDA any more, they're all on droidforums and rootzwiki. But they're out there.
It sounds more like the OP is abandoning the Bionic, not the devs.

I think this is just part of the "downtime" between releases. We have an OTA on the way that may or may not have additional compared to whats leaked so a lot of devs IMO are waiting for that OTA to come out and then will update their Roms accordingly.
In addition a lot of 3rd party Roms use CM as a base so until CM is finished being ported to the Bionic, this front will probably remain dead. Once we see CM7 done and CM9 starting, i think you'll start to see a bunch of new roms pop up.

I feel the same way about the Photon, but we are making progress too.
Have you guys been able to unlock your bootloaders without loosing LTE? If so, you are at an advantage, but how many of you have developers with this phone?
There is a locked bootloader. The excellent devs have done most of what can be done without that being unlocked. They are not lazy, they just did so well that there is nothing to change until the bootloader is unlocked or motor/Verizon push ics.

I understand, I am going through the same thing with my Photon, on Sprint, the Now Network.
The devs definitely haven't given up, the Th3ory T3am is working on getting CM9 to boot and a couple of devs over at DF are going through the source code to see if they can unlock the bootloader right now.

A locked BL isn't as big of a hindrance as people think ... really all it stops you from doing is running a custom kernel. You can still make custom roms and over/underclock. Sure it's not ideal bc you have to deal with 2nd init to run CM but otherwise there is still a lot of flexibility. Liberty, Th3ory and eclipse are perfect testaments to that.
it isn't as long as Motorola continues to create roms with kernals for the newest version of android and only as long as it is rootable. The min one of those two things stop happaning we will need kernel access to continue on

The Razr came out, all hyped up, and now half of what you see on the forums is talking about how it's not that much different than the Bionic, and it clearly becomes a subjective issue, mainly based on form factor and pentile rgbw/lcd (bionic) vs pentile rgbg/samoled (razr).
The Gnex will likely be similar once it comes out and people realize that its not that much better either. It has pure ICS, but I bet we'll be seeing some of that by the time the Gnex is released anyway - at least some roms based on that source anyway.
Droid 4 is literally a Razr with a kb.
Rezound is great as well, but nothing tremendously better than these others.
My point is this... All of these new phones have something positive and something negative about them. I don't see any good reason why developers would stop supporting the bionic, as it is technically in the same league as all of these other phones. I don't think I'm being too much of an idealist ... at least that's my hope
Sent from my phone
I mean, is the d4 going to be overlooked due to the new razr hype?

i have faith in the Devs that we will see stuff. Even if at first it is ports from the Razar as the hardware is almost identical. Right now there are a few ROMs that are out, but without the files to factory restore a lot of us are not yet wanting to take the risk of loading custom ROMS.
Thats where i stand. Ive only rooted thus far. I went to motorola without doing my homework. Ive had htc phones in the past and loved the roms available for sense. But when i look at the droid roms it seems they must not be as "popular" as the ones for htc sense. But then again i havent participated in the forum scene enough to research yet.
Sent from my DROID4 using xda premium
Sometimes it just take a little longer for them to come out on Motorola but we do get custom ROMs. Once the recovery files are leaked for the Droid 4 fast boot system then I believe we will start to see many more ROMs.
CM9 for Droid 4
I know that the CM9 ICS ROM that hashcode is developing is still in beta stage but honestly that ROM is very stable. I have been using it for over a week testing all the various hardware functions and they all work fine. I was very impressed with it. No major issues with it at all. Just some very minor issues with the software.
whiteout is right.... hashcode's ICS (both CM9 and AOKP) work almost flawlessly for me. I have used both, and they both have everything working, including front facing camera now! with only little bugs here and there that will be worked out shortly.
keep in mind, this phone has only been out for a month, and there are no stock recovery files out there for us if we really eff somthing up.
dont know about you, but i am thrilled with the development so far and LOVING my ICS experience on the droid4.
I know how you feel; this happened to the Droid 2 thanks to the Droid X, but I think it's safe to say that is not the case here. Actually, for there to be a nearly stable ROM for a phone within a month of it being released, is pretty darn awesome! I think the only reason we haven't seen, say, a CM7.1 ROM yet is because everyone is busy working on CM9.
Side note; since we do have all the drivers, is it possible for someone to get CM7.1 compiled for the phone? I suspect this would not take much work for someone who knows what they're doing, and it would be a nice step up from stock for those of us who actually need to keep a stable phone until CM9 is ready.
I really like roms that also add alot of visuals like change the look of the phone

I sure hope we get a good stock recovery file soon. I boot-loop bricked my D4 with careless use of Titanium Backup PRO (moving around system Dalvik cache, deleting rather than freezing stock bloat apps, etc.). Since factory resetting hasn't help, I assume I've trashed the system core and need to reflash from stock... which I guess hasn't been released yet. Sigh.
I just got my Droid 4 a few days ago, and quickly tried the ICS/CM9 ROM, and while it still has some kinks to work out, it definatly has a strong following, and Im sure we will get more things in the future.
I haven't seen much on roms lately. All the one's out here aren't stable either. We only have a couple fully working roms and none of them are being update. If I get a new phone any suggestions on what it should be to take advantage of the most fully functional roms?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA
I found Liberty ROM to be quite stable, and while I don't want to jinx it, I've been running Maverick 4.0 for a day or so and it seems great!
If the bootloader ever gets unlocked, it will open up more kernel dev options (for the genius' out there!) which could open up more/better ROM possibilities for us (fingers crossed).
I don't think I'll be upgrading to another phone until a new physical keyboard model comes out. And hopefully it's quad-core with at least a gig of RAM. (512mb on my XT860 has been killing me) ;D
Unfortunately I dont think the kernel will ever be unlocked on our phones... that's Motorola for you.

Ever since they switched to the nightlies and stopped posting new beta's on here It slowed down, IMO.
I'm happy with Mavrom 4.0 I guess, but would've loved to see hashcode etc. focussing on getting video on ICS, rather than adding features etc. Other ROM makers could've tried that. Who cares about advanced settings when you can't even record a video?
Google is going to probably sell Motorola hardware section to Huawei and keep the core just as legal requirements. Also, they said they are not going to interfere with Motorola decisions on their products. Google only bought Motorola for their parents, nothing more, nothing less.
Rocking with my M3 and XDA app
Exactly ... but I don't want this to be a Motorola bash... even tho its easy to do... lol... so for now I would like to see a list of roms that are fully functional. I'm on liberty and I keep going back to that just because everything works... what other roms are in this category. And I agree that a extra features aren't important till a fully or close to fully completely working roms is in place. What's the point of all the bells and whistles if you can't even use the basic functions of a phone.. don't get me wrong now. I love trying new roms but it becomes a downer when you get one that has cool extras but you end up going back to a working rom for taking video or watching Netflix .... even if your on safestrap to go back to that functional rom. And the other question is if I change phones what would be a good phone to go to just for rom purposes ...
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
The problem iswith the hardware codes and drivers. Every phone probably has this problem with ics. They add more features cause this is almost impossible. The real issue to all of the problems is the bootloader. When you can customize the kernel to fit your rom you pretty much take care of any problems. Not to say there aren't roms with custom kernels that don't have issues .... there are but thats due to other things. Programming or incompatibly issues. All of our roms are franken roms held together by bungee cords and duct tape. The devs do a great job with what they have at hand so when time comes for them to build a rom on a phone with a unlocked bootloader, I don't blame them.. much more freedom and the ability to create awesome roms the way they want. All the stable roms we have are just built around the original with some cleaning up and a splash of color... I wonder what it feels like to know when you pick a rom no matter what it is and you know its going to work and the only reason you don't stick with it is because you don't like the way it looks or it doesn't have a extra you want... how sweet.
