How to root a korean galaxy note E160L (LGU+) model (ICS) + cwm install

Hi everyone. I recently found a post in a korean forum which explains how to root a korean version of the galaxy note with ICE CREAM SANDWICH. Sadly my korean isn`t very good but fortunately it was enough to follow the procedure^^.
Alright, my main problem was to find the specific files for my E160L model... luckily I got them now... PLEASE REMEMBER I WILL BE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE ON YOUR PHONE!
And another thing... this is a tutorial JUST for the LGU+ model E160L... not for SK or KT...
Here we go...
1. you have to upgrade your phone to ICS via KIES. Shouldn´t be problem.
2. download those 4 files ... if you have flashed the TEGRAK kernel you also need the tegrak recovery file...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0rz0tuioj3irhz/cwm-160l-update.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3sp7bulu54ckg/samsungE160recovery.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwuadwg4bx7wjro/Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/si43ikqpcdbzpod/Tegrak.rec.tar
(I am not sure if I am allowed to post those links in this forum)
3. You need ODIN for the whole procedure... I will not explain how to use it because there are so many tutorials floating in the net how to flash your phone... I will just do a short version... please understand.
After you upgraded your phone to ICS put your phone into download-mode and flash the TEGRAK.REC.TAR file. Reboot.
4. After that do the same thing with the samsungE160recovery.tar file. reboot again.
5. Next copy the two remaining files Superuser-signed.zip and cwm-160l-update.zip into your EXTERNAL SD-card.
6. After that turn off your phone and reboot it into recovery-mode by holding down the power-button + volume up + volume down... release those buttons when you see the samsung logo.
7. Now you are in recovery-mode. go to "install zip from SD card" by pressing the volume down-button or up-button and then choose it by pressing the power-button.
After that press "choose zip from sdcard" and then you choose the cwm-160l-update.zip file... install and reboot.
8. Now you should have an update of cwm recovery.
Now install the superuser-signed.zip file in the same way you installed the cwm-160l-update.zip file. Et voilà! After rebooting you should have 2 superuser versions on your phone. one in chinese and one in english... I don´t know... after rebooting again the chinese version was gone. ^^
Hope it´ll help. AGAIN... Not responsible for any damage on your phone. Doing it at your own risk!!!
I followed as your guidance, everything are almost done, but when i reboot into recovery mode, i can't mount my sd card, so i can't install the last two files
Do you have an external sdcard? otherwise you won´t find the files at first.., if you have copied the files into your internal sdcard... you have to choose "install from internal sdcard" in cwm recovery
thx for your post, my phone is rooted, everything seem ok, except some apps can not run after allowed by superuser such as AdFree
Thank you bro, Can you share your original korean forum link? My note model is 160S. Maybe instruction of 160S is have in the original forum?
@realforever... That's strange. Adfree works fine for me and all the other apps which need root Access work fine on my phone...
I would like to ask if it does changes original U+ firmware to new firmware from i717?
I ask this, because my current ICS has Russian language, and if i will download Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip to my Note will it basically change my firmware?, or it will just root current, already installed firmware?
The only thing why i need to root - to change some Touch Wizz vidjets from Korean to Russian and include Russian language into dial search, for this i need to root my Device.
locomaniac - Please NEED Help!!!!
I also have U+ E160L, i have done everithing you have told and it's ok, i have received superuser. But while i was trying to change dialer i have destroyed 2 very important files from my folder system/app. This files are Phone.apk and Phone.odex
Please, post this two files as soon as you can, will be very great full, thanks ahead.
are there any kernels that we can flash? how to flash the tegrak kernel back. i get invalid package using tegrak recovery.
i screwed up the kernel flashing one of i717's kernel.
locomaniac
Does it included traditional Chinese? and does it effect sms? Thanks
I need help, locomanic
Thanks for the guide. I hope we can have a custom ROM on this one especially on battery optimization.
Thanks
Thanks I have been looking for this for awhile now. Can i Run whatever ROM I want on here now ? I use my phone also in korea and dont want to affect my service with a custom rom if so

[Q] Help! Error while flashing!

Hi guys,
I am getting an error as you were getting when trying to install a custom ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S.
I am currently running on stock Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Baseband version : I9000DDJV5
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DDJV9
I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and installed ROM Manager on it. Then, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery using it. Now, I am trying to flash Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my device and have downloaded it and kept it in the root directory of the SDcard. Now, whether I go to recovery mode manually or using ROM Manager, I am getting the error as below:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid Argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Also, I get only four options in the recovery mode, viz, reboot, apply update from SDcard, wipe data, wipe cache partition.
I get the same error when I try to Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager.
I searched through threads and found that some people have had similar errors but there is no solution I could find which worked for me.
I have tried clearing my download cache. Also, the download is not corrupt as I am getting the same error when trying to create a back up..
Is there any way I can correct this? Or is there any other work around for flashing like using Odin? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, I can get into download mode..but how to proceed after that?
I am currently running on my stock rom JV9.. so, you mean to say that I should first upgrade to JVU using download mode and then proceed to upgrading it further?
Can you please also tell how to upgrade to JVU using download mode?
Thanks
SIMPLE WAY TO ROOT AND FLASH LATEST ICS
1. Flash by Odin (download Odin) Semaphore 1.2.0 kernel (as PDA, UNtick repartition, UNtick reboot).
2. Take out battery.
3. Go into recovery (vol up + home + power, release power after few secs)
4. In recovery mount internal SD (sdcard) and plug phone to PC. Delete all files from internal SD (if you don't have any important files). Copy latest CM9 and gapps to internal SD. Unmount internal SD.
5. In "mounts" menu use every (excluding internal and external SD card!!!) "format" option.
6. Go to flash ZIP menu and choose CM9 ZIP, then gapps.
7. Turn off recovery (phone).
8. Turn on phone and wait to boot.
Hope I helped.
Re:
Hi,
Problem here is that you didn't flash ClockworkMod recovery. If you only have four options it means you just have Recovery 3e - which is stock on most devices sold with GingerBread. I assume you are new to this so ClockworkMod recovery might be a little tricky to use.
I suggest you go to http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/darkyrom-v11-0-black-edition-android-4-0-4-ics.7941/ and follow the guide there.
I'm not saying that Darky has the best ROM there is but it does have a nice complete guide for flashing from stock.
Good luck

Hey.. I had flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager..It is also showing that my current recovery is : ClockworkMode 2.5.1.2
But you are right that when I boot into recovery mode, it shows Android System Recovery <3e> written at the top and gives only four options..
I went to the DarkyRom guide you mentioned..Here is the written guide
1-If you're coming from a Froyo (Android 2.2) or Gingerbread (2.3) ROM, follow these steps;
Have your phone rooted with CWM
Make a NANDROID backup & Titanium backup & backup anything you need or find important on a PC
Now, I don't understant what does the first step means exactly? How to go about rooting with CWM and make a NANDROID backup without ROM Manager?
Please help..Thanks
For an update..I found a guide to flash leaked version of 2.3.6 XWJW1 using Odin.. and I have been able to apply that successfully on my phone..I have rooted my phone again using Odin this time.. But now too, if I am trying to backup using ROM Manager, it is giving me the same error.. Is there a way or a guide that tells how to upgrade to cyanogenmod 9 or 7.2 using Odin..instead of doing it through the recovery mode..?
No. CM7 or CM9 you can only flash from custom recovery (CWM).
And one important thing: do NOT use ROM Manager, don't ask why
Just use my tutorial. But be aware that you have to delete anything from phone.

Ya..I had been doing exactly that but I found that almost all have instructions to flash CWM recovery using ROM Manager and then flashing in the recovery mode.. but that procedure is not working for me as it is giving an error.. Is there a way to load all roms without rom manager.?

The semaphore you have is for ics.
Only ICS roms will do such as cm9.
CM7 is Gingerbread.
No service, Baseband unknown
The no service problem is still not gone.. I tried installing a modem but it has not helped.. I checked my phone details and found that it is showing baseband version as unknown. I have rolled back to 2.3.6 now but still it is not in service and not showing any baseband either.. Please advice what should I do!! Thanks for the help
You probably have damaged IMEI. If your IMEI in phone status starts with 000... you have damaged IMEI. Now you have to flash stock ROM by Odin with repartition (or 1st with Clear EFS option, 2nd without this option), backup EFS (Google!), use my guide again, and after that restore EFS.
After restarting phone, you'll get right IMEI and you should have network signal.
Hope I helped.
BTW, there's no explanation for damaging IMEI.

Hi there, did you try to flash on an unsafe kernel? Please read the numerous posts on Safe / Unsafe kernels, then consult Chasmodo's excellent Kernel Repository.
Before flashing a ROM, I would suggest you download the Abyss 4.2 kernel (tar file), you can search and find this on XDA.
Connect your Note to Odin and flash the Abyss 4.2 tar file. This will install a safe (Gingerbread) kernel. Again there are posts on how to do this.
Enter Recovery and flash your ROM of choice.
Remember to ALWAYS flash on a safe kernel. If you are not sure, please check.
I hope this helps. Please hit THANKS if it did.
Thanks for posting you all,
I was flashing a new rom with cwm and suddently appeared an error: E: can't...
I took off the battery and put it again and reboot it again...
And so it stucked at the initial logo.
P.S: i had a cooked rom before that happened

But, what new ROM were you flashing and what were you on prior? You have to explain yourself better. Did you do a factory reset/wipe data on a PURELY STOCK ROM or did you use philz kernel or a CM9/10 variant or something else?

Sounds to me as if you flashed from an unsafe kernel. You must ALWAYS check the kernel is safe before you flash.
I would recommend you flash a safe kernel (via Recovery or Odin - there are guides on both methods). Abyss 4.2 is my personal choice.
Then, when the kernel has been flashed, reboot back to Recovery before flashing a ROM. Do not got straight to ROM flash.
These steps should help.
thanks for your help but there s still a problem... if a flash a rom with odin it stucks at factory.fs..
i did everything and at last i used the adb program and i removed the old partition like factory.fs and created new one..... after that i converted them in ext4 by going in (cwm recovery) mounts and storage and check format /data and format /system...
after that i installed the cm 9 Nightlies and the phone worked again =D
so...after that.... i installed odin mobile pro and Odin Flash Kernel for GT-N7000 ...then i downloaded a stock rom ics (N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_DBT) and i flashed it with odin mobiel pro =)
everything was working fine until it stopped at installing or updating (i don't know) the new applications like kies,Smemo ecc.....
and now i don't know what to do...
Can you help me please? i don't want to throw away a galaxy note......

Flash back to cm base. If you have damaged emmc its likely you won't be able to run stock roms anymore because of the damaged space. ie. Stock rom 600-800mb, cm based 150mb

He is saying you can use any CM based ROM. Crash and such are still based on stock Samsung and pretty big in size. Maybe try something like SlimBean.
