Hi folks,
is it possible to port the Android 2.2 to the Legend without Rosi UI? In all newsthreads here on the web they say 2.2 will come on Legend but HTC have to adapt the Sens UI to FroYo before...
So the question is, is it possible to cook a FroYo Rom without Sense UI (Rosi UI) for the Legend ??? There are enough launcher at the market if someboy need
Thanks to all chiefs here, your work is great!!
Cu Andy
I would also like to know this thanks
I would love to have a generic (no Sense) Rom on my Legend. Whether it's 2.1 or 2.2...

well I doubt about this, as far all custom roms are coming up with home-sense on HTC devices.
You can install additional home replacement (e.g. Helix luncher) and set it as default.
I think it will be also possible in Android 2.2 so dont worry.

Not realy, @ modaco forum it´s possible to cook roms @ online kitchen, you are also able to choose without sense ui, but kitchen is down at the moment...
i would like to try a rom without sense ui, there are many apps and launcher in the market so i can put out the needed widgets single without using the 45mb big sense ui... i don´t want to think about the ram usage from sens ui... this ui is nearly the half rom-size...
For me it´s only important to have a good kalender widget and a useable launcher, so this can i build without sense ui too... (use the phone as time manager mainly)
thanks andi

Yeh, I know. I've got Zeam on my Legend and I'm happy with it. I still have HTC custom apps though. And I strongly prefer stock Android apps, EG Calendar, Contacts, Alarm Clock. Call me a pervert but Sense UI does absolutely nothing to me. Perhaps I shouldn't have got a Legend in first place but I really liked the hardware...

I totally agree with you...paul please help us to port the froyo 2.2 to legend, you're the only one who can do it...
Maybe if we pooled our money together for a donation, it would give him a bit more motivation.

me too...how? Anyway I contacted HTC to know if they will update legend to 2.2 and the told me:
Thank you for contacting us. Regarding your enquiry about Android 2.2: We cannot comment on what devices may or may not get an update just yet. Any announcements will be made through our Website, Facebook page and our Twitter feed. Please keep an eye on these channels for any updates regarding your handset. Thank you for contacting HTC. Kind regards, Federico F. HTC
So nothing new. Anyway I advise you to do the same, I think that if they will receive thousand of emails regarding this request of upgrade they cannot ignore us. A great thing would be if XDA Administrator could contact them to force them to give us this upgrade asap.

I asked the same thing a day or to ago.
And the reply was almost the exact same (but then in Dutch). Too much alike that it made me guessing that it's an autoreply.
Dno for sure but I think it's a good idea to send as much requests as possible

Another reply from HTC:
About the Legend and the Desire: We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid HTC Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet. Kind regards, Federico F. HTC
Reply on my e-mail:

HTC is very smart to NOT answer..."we are still analyzing the impact???" Wake up HTC the impact can be only positive!! Froyo 2.2 makes phones 450% faster than 2.1, has JIT compiler, App2SD, come on HTC, open your eyes!! I think I will insist and we are not alone, I'm in contact with an italian forum with more than 1000 users with htc legend, everybody will email HTC in the next days, we cannot be unsatisfied, we want the upgrade and we'll have it.

I just got off the phone with the HTC support line.
And they were saying that they do not have a full list, but the man i spoke to said that the Legend should be getting the update

the important is to keep annoying the HTC support every day until they will announce officially the update. Everybody must email them, call them, they can't ignore thousands of people
I know I am probably going to get some heat for posting a "Question" in the Devs section, but I did attempt to ask it in the Q&A section, but have not received any responses from any of the developers (not sure if they regular that section).
My question is why none of the Captivate developers utilize ROM manager as a place to download (and update) their custom ROMs? I know many of us have purchased the premium license, and wonder why you haven't utilized this feature? Is it more of a hassle? Is there costs involved that inhibit Devs from wanting to post there? I know EVO owners have a wide variety of ROMs on their device available for download right from manager.
Thanks in advance, and if this tread needs to be moved or deleted after, I won't be offended.
........and thank you Devs for your AWESOME Roms!
I, too, was disappointed after purchasing ROM Manager Premium that there were no ROMs available to download. I was under the impression that this would open up a load of ROMs for me to download and try out.
Personally, I think the purchase was well worth it considering how much I've used it. I did it to support the guy. I can find roms on my own.

Oh, I completely agree. I was just wondering why our devs haven't utilized it. Maybe it has to do with the file type system that the Galaxy S's use? I know it is probably safer using Odin to flash back to stock first, but maybe there was another reason? Or maybe that isn't even a reason?

I am not an expert but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that rom manager does not work with the captivate as it does with other devices such as the evo. For whatever reason when you simply try to flash a new rom, old remnants remain and you often experience problems especially when the new rom is based on a different build/kernel, etc. That is the reason everyone recommends flashing stock using odin first as it eliminates all remnants of the previous rom.
It is nice to be able to use the full functionality of rom manager on my evo but honestly I usually research here on xda first anyway.
I have yet to see a full explanation as to why we have the issue on the captivate and hopefully someone who understands the exact reason will take the time to explain.
It's related mainly to the Kernel and Modem I'm sure. The evo community doesn't use a kernel and modem file designed for an entirely different (albeit very similar) device; we do.
Rom manager needs to be more clear on how many ROMS will be available before purchase. The way it's worded makes it seem like you'll have roms to choose from regardless of your device.
I also upgraded to premium and spent time"trouble shooting" trying to figure out what was wrong.
I knew every popular rom wouldn't necessarily be listed but I certainly expected something.

Not the point of the question. Incase it needs to be reiterated, what he wants to ask is: Developers. Why are your ROMs not available via Rom Manager directly?
If there is a reason why you don't use it, it would be nice of you could elaborate. Not everyone has money to throw at something that they don't see beneficial. (Paid vs unpaid.) Donations are nice, but they are donations for a reason. Any "Oh, but you should contribute to Rom Manager creaters anyway." chat is beside the point and not the focus of this thread, so please keep your opinion on purchasing donate versions out of the equation.
I cant say why but it is their chose as if they want to use it or not. Please dont open more then one thread on the same subject.
I deem this thread closed
I made this thread based on what i think ROM's must or should have 4 an average use
- STABLE, with no sd unmounting or unespected reboots
- Of course, it must read the SD, also, would be good to have an file manager, light like OI file manager, even if its aosp, cause some of us stores our apps on SD as backups
- All kind of wireless networks, GSM mainly, WiFi, USB and Radio for those who listen!
-Clean Launcher to let the user set it 4 his needs
-mic, dialer, dial UI, messagin working
-BT handset / and jack working ofc
-speaker
-Good or the laster battery it can be
-DSP or louder sound
-Not too laggy UI or ROM
-OC could be added as well, but it is not really needed, unless the ROM its a bit laggy
-Working camera, cause we all need to take a picture often, even when its about our studies (I take pics to ppt )
-LG stock apps like Alarms, calendar, energy control, Google apps, voice, weather and news
-Of course it'd be cool to have youtube to watch somes How-To about anything
-Rooted, its not TRULY needed, but lets face it, we all want it, or some doesn't know how, or just cannot reach it!
All those things should be on any ROM, unless its a BETA or A release with KNOWN bugs which will be FIXED as ppl/users detects then
Suggestions:
-LG IME keyboard
-Astro File Manager (I make apps backups from Astro)
-Docs to go
-Touchpal / Swipe
-XDA forum app to follow our respective roms thread or any thread we want
-OC and Swapp utility/support
Guess thats the bassic things users are looking 4 + performance, i also know not ALL roms will have but it could work as a guide or a task list of what to do with a rom in development, also after making a rom, it'd be cool to get a test period with some users, or all of them to fix possibles bugs and then make it clean!
Feel free to post any other thing u think its needed or any suggestion
Dont see point of this topic... dont rom like, dont use it.
Sent using Tt.
Taking that as main duty, just sug
You sound as though you know how to build a rom without all this probs trust me its alot harder
I do not know actually, just attached them as task to be done or something, if a rom complishes most of the features, and gets real stable, it could be as an Official one! Repeat, its just a suggestion...
Yes I know
Really, this topic makes no sense. You're indirectly saying that you want a fully working ROM. If any ROM has a missing File Manager, tell that respective developer. And Developers know what should be working in their ROMs and even they want their ROMs to be bugless!
If you want any added apps, you can add them yourself. Instead it's better that the ROM is as clean as possible
No sd unmounting or unexpected reboot? i get that with LG's stock kernel.
Developers here aren't LG software engineers, we don't pay them to develop roms etc... We don't have the rights to expect everything working perfectly anyways. LG makes mistakes as well.
LG stock apps require porting because those apps does not work standalone without LG's framework.
Yeah, the camera takes crappier shots than the 'lowest end' 1mega pixel cybershot my parents gave me which was bought in 2001. But I'd agree that some users without image quality expectations would want a working camera
Root is needed by most users for integrating apps into system file, debugging and modify rom itself on phone. If you're the one who plays with your phone and thinking how amazing it is, well...... *no comment*.... 'no life'.
Not going to comment on overclock becouse I don't truly need it and will buy a new phone soon.
Root explorer allows root access, not astro.
In combination, suggesting is; add your own apps. You're not paying the developer neither does your opinion or the way you use your phone apply to everyone else on xda.

I have a few more questions before I make the leap to buy my first ever Android based device.
The Questions:
Will Rooting make my phone more susceptible to being Hijacked/Hacked /Virus?..so on. I presume its no, but security is nothing to play with. Does McAfee have an App? (That was a joke)
Is there currently anything I should stay way from that doesn't currently work or isn't stable with 4.0 Ice-cream Sandwich?
Will Adobes Apps (Photoshop Touch for example) work on the SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE/GT-N7000? I ask this because said app is made for a tablet...but the GALAXY NOTE isn't your average tablet since it's a phone? It meets the resolution requirements... just not the size. Hence the confusion. This kind of thing is actually my biggest query at the moment...perhaps I should broaden the question...If it is made for a standard tablet, will it work with this sort of tablet?Would Paranoid Android assist me in this concern? (I think it would based on what I have seen)
Once I have rooted- is there any way for ME to customize the UI and how the hardware (such as GPS and Ram) functions. As you may have gathered I know my away around Adobe Suite and I could at the very least do some of that... or do I just have to...ugh...what's the jargon word...
Flash the Rom with someone else's handy work?
Does anyone have a recommendations on where I should buy the Unlocked SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE/GT-N7000 Note? I just want to know the options I may have other than Amazon, Ebay, or Expansys.

Bump!
This is the last time I intend to bump this (not that I wanted to in the first place). If this is truly meant to drift off unanswered than so be it.
I just hope that in the event of something horrible (or at least unknown) occurring to my phone that I can search the answer...since asking doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

Ok, if you can download it, Adobe it should work. You can try a custom rom which supports tablet mode should you not be able to download with normal dpi. That will enable tablet mode in market, after clearing market data and reboot it should become available for dl.
Currently there are a couple good stock ICS roms and a couple good custom roms. All (except cm9 xplodwild is safe, not other cm9) kernels are dangerous due to Brickrisk of known bug. However, all cm9 based suffer the bugs of cm9, speakerphone broken, high battery consumption, etc. Most have their own bugs on top.
Now ICS source is out wait a couple days as more custom roms and kernels will be build as well as bugfixes. And off course, support the devs with donations for coffee, so they stay awake and make no errors lmao .

1. No. Truth is, root or no root, you are equally vulnerable to malware. Just read the reviews and all before installing any, you know, 'unknown' app.
2. Wiping, factory resets and CWM. Although this is just for stock German ICS and older ICS ROMs like Stunner. New ROMs like Paranoid, CM9 are safe. Still in case you must search before you do anything with custom ROMs just to be on the safe side.
3. Can't find Photoshop Touch on the play store. But there must be a work around am sure. I am using Paranoid by the way.
4. You can pretty much flash a custom ROM and flash various themes and things. Don't know about RAM but you can over clock or under clock your processor. There are various tweaks scattered so just search for it and more often than not you will find it. Carbon tweaks are really good. Search them in themes and apps.

Okay, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the development for our device.
Recently CM decided to no longer support Tegra 2 devices as they are starting to get dated. So basically that boils down to the fact that the CM10.1 will be the last one for our device that I do.
Currently I'm trying to jump start the process of putting out our updated kernel from 2.6.36.4 -> 3.1. This will hopefully put our device at a point where everything should work.
DerArtem is the lead developer on the kernel, but has been busy because he just got married and works a full time job, which puts a damper on his time (which is understandable).
I am putting in an 1-2 hours every morning on this, trying to fix those bugs and was just tipped on a possible way to minimize the overload of the log with the USB error. This will be a hold off till we get the kernel done as these issues should go away after the update.
I am sad to see this tablet come to an end (though not yet). We all have to admit that its time we all start moving on. I am going to push to get these last bit done and call it quits. This can take anywhere from 2-5 months to finish up, maybe a bit longer and then our device will be done.
I have had an amazing time learning about Android under DJ_Steve and DerArtem, and thank them for taking the time to teach me.
I thank you what you done so far and in the future. Can blame you one bit for your decisions.
I think setting an "end game" is respectable, and is a good goal. The kernel work is the key to smoothing things over on what has been wonderful development thus far.
The fact you've taken us this far sir is very commendable and you and the crew deserve many thanks. For your time and efforts, you have my gratitude, and my tablet serves as a hobby rather than a shelved device.
4.2.x has been flawed since release by Google, and with the way android has evolved, future versions will undoubtedly require more current hardware and OEM support. The latest tablet releases have as much computing power as a 2 year old laptop! Thanks to you, we've managed to play with JB, and I look forward to what comes before a final release.

Wow, I hate doing this, but I may have to close up shop on all this. Severe lack of any real work is getting done as I am looking for jobs and trying to have some game time as well.
The time to do this isn't worth it. I may ask for payments for my next ROM ($1 per download). Seriously, I hate doing it but this just isn't worth it anymore. Currently working on a AOKP release, to see if this may resolve any bugs I am having.
Hi giveen,
first of all thank you for all the time you spent on our old device. I already donated you some time ago and always had an eye on your progesses. I really understand your decision to ask for some payment for all the work and that is absolutely ok for me.
I use my DS7 (wifi only) on a daily base to check my mails, surf the net and stream some TV and video from my HTPC. Until now I use a HC 3.2 mod (514 mod by dreamer) together with V6 Supercharger script and am so far quite ok with that. So far I see no need to buy me a new tablet as long as the DS7 fits my few needs
But before I collect all my courage and update my DS7 in the near future to your CM10 build I want to ask a few things:
1. Is your build already stable and usable enough for the things I do with my device?
2. Any news from DerArtem about the kernel work? Will there be a new kernel for our device in the future?
THX,
Michael

THX,
Michael

If its from your HTPC, I honestly don't know as I have never tried it before. This latest build is much more stable, though it still has the gmail keyboard crash that I am tracking down. If you are happy with what you have, don't do anything. I would hate for you to make a purchase and not be happy.
I haven't heard from DerArtem in several weeks because he is in another country (Russia) doing a job. (He lives in Germany). To be honest, I don't think a new kernel is going to happen and I'm really upset by it.

One issue I see here is that when you start charging, a person paying for it like a app from the Play Store, they expect things to work. This "might" cause you to spend more time than you have been on it. Just my $0.02!
Didn't somebody donate an unused DS7 for DerArtem for this kernel project?

They can contact me if they are having an issue. I appreciate the concern though.
Yes, someone did give their DS7 to him.

I'll be downloading it later after some usage and a charge.
I'm working on sensors now. The old sensor drivers we used were for something we dont even have. I found the correct Android drivers but they are for qualcomm devices, so I need to modify them to work.
