I have a really noob question.. I just looked at my phone info and it says im on baseband xxkl7, and my kernel is xxkka, so should i be running a kka or a kl7 ROM? My build is also xxkka.

Hey everyone, i recently purchased a sgs i9000 and i really want to root it, i have read a lot about rooting (including reading threads on this site) and i am still a bit unsure. Here are some details about my phone:
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: I9000BVJP4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.BVJS4
It is branded to Orange (so it has the Orange bootup as well as the Galaxy bootup)
All i am insterested in is rooting my phone to have superuser access. At the moment i am not bothered about flashing a rom during the root process.
Thanks in advance
If you'll be staying at 2.2.1 you can flash a kernel with odin. For instance, speedmod k13e or sth. else. It will make your phone faster and will add superuser and busybox and it takes less than a minute to do that.
hi
you can root it using different ways
1-try z4root from the market
2-using odin flash any voodoo kernel or speedmod kernel
3-i think also super one click will be usefull
regards
So speedmod k13e works with my build number etc? or does it not matter? Thanks
Yeah, 2.2.1 kernels work on all 2.2.1 ROMs.
Hey guys, just started flashing roms etc. yesterday, and ended up being completely amazed at how versatile these phones can actually be!
My phone is a GT-I9000M on Bell's network in Canada.
I am currently running Darky's ROM 10.2 on Ficetos Deodexed JVH for the I9000
PDA: I9000XWJVH
PHONE: I9000UGKC1
CSC: I9000XEEJV3
I want to try out Cyanogenmod7, and am curious as to whether I can simply install the update.zip package on my Ficeto JVH? Or do I need to re-flash back to a stock version of 2.2 before installing CM7?
Thanks for all the help!
PS. Not quite clear on which of which is a kernal, rom, etc. so bear with my lack of proper classification.

HOLY CRAP, Thank you, I could not find a definitive guide for CM7 on a SGS for the life of me. after googling, searching here, the wiki, and the CM7 site, nothing.
Thank you so much!
Hi, i was going to update my SGS to firmware 2.3.6 xxjw4 from 2.3.5 xxjvt (via kies) and was wondering if the semaphore jvt_1.9.1 kernel would be ok or is there a better or specific one?? Thx
I flashed 2.3.6 with the latest semaphore kernel(2.5) and it went well.you should be okay
Well yeah it would work, but I don't see why you'd stick to gingerbread or any stock rom while you can try custom ICS Rom ... my SGS is rocking one of those now and it's totally great
Thx
Updated it and works well...but now in the process of installing ICS so thx for the help

You mean you want to flash LRG kernel so that you can upgrade to 4.0.4? Why dont you download stock XXLRQ (German) firmware from dr.ketan's thread and simply flash using odin. Its the latest 4.0.4 rom.

To change build number you will need to flash updated rom.
This is what it means in "Settings / About Phone"
Baseband version - This is your Modem
Kernel Version - Your Kernel
Build number - your ROM
You need to flash an updated ROM to change to 4.0.4. Latest is LRQ

Find the XXLRQ3 (Germany) in there and flash it. It will restore back the LRQ3 on to your phone, together with the stock kernel that comes along with it.
