Can apps be developed ok, using Eclipse IDE with a rooted Note? If so, are there any config issues I'd need to sort, or will it 'just work'? In the past I had issues with a rooted Desire S that wouldn't connect to my dev software after the root.
Thanks for reading.
It just works, same as usual.
The only thing that a root does is allow the device to obtain privilege escalation, to execute code at a superuser level. It shouldn't conflict with Eclipse at all.
Thanks to both of you for the replies, much appreciated; I think come tomorrow my Note will be getting rooted now.
Hi, I have a Verizon Galaxy tab that I got from a co-worker who used to have it hooked up with verizon's plan. I only use it as wifi only.
I would like to root it and would like to know the best rom and the simplest way to root the device.
Thanks for any advice or help.

Hi,
I can only give you general recommendations.
1. Always back up your applications and data before you start any modification. This includes the original Verizon firmware also using 3rd party tools (ROM manager by ClockworkMod) for example! Transfer this backup to your PC. Since if something goes wrong you can not load back the original Verizon software.
2. Choose your custom firmware and ROM according to the Galaxy Tab model number, vendor and other specifications. This requires a bit search on the net.
3. Read all instructions before you start the modifications.
4. If the device does not load after the reboot because either the ROM or the kernel is not working properly, do not panic as long as you can put it into download mode (yellow Android logo) nothing is lost.
5. Learn how to recover your device using Heimdall or Odin and understand each file and its function these applications are using. Help is also available on the forum regarding this part.
You can find lots of topics on this forum with instructions. Also there are videos on Youtube which can help you.
I just purchased back after selling 2 years ago this great gadget . It has been one of my extremely rare changes of mind as i underestimated its capabilities...
I have some basic questions in case someone can give me a tip :
I now own a motorola e and have no Samsung device to pair it with , what should i do?
the watch is updated to last tizen fw via kies and is on factory reset form so i have no access to its settings
I need to make it work independantly if this is possible or via the moto e...
I also managed to flash the last tizen rom based here via the instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...evelopment/rom-tizenmod-3-0-skin1980-t2850353
my moto e is not rooted running 4.4.4..
thx for any help
On 4.4 you can still make just about everything work properly without a Samsung phone. Never tried without root tho. Your best option without rooting would be simply trying to install gear manager apps the normal way, download and install.
I have best luck with 502 version of gear manager personally, the later versions I never get to work properly. Go to this thread and grab the 502 version as well as gearmanager stub, install both and reboot. Enable bluetooth if you havent, dont connect tho, just enable then run gear manager and it should install whats needed. If it gets stuck saying connecting for longer then 30 seconds or so cancel it and it will finish installing, if not restart gear manager and it will.
On a rooted device you manually drop the files in place, set permissions and reboot then continue. It should work the same. Here is a tutorial on doing it but I don't want the un-needed crap from Samsung running on my phone so I do it the way I posted above and just download the apps I want from here. More maybe available from the galaxy store but honestly, that's enough for me and my needs.
Your other alternative is running null rom on your watch, thats based on Android, more info here. Any needed files can be found on my copy.
Does your workplace have a BYOD policy that enforces full device encryption?
Have you already unlocked your bootloader and rooted your device, thus tripping Samsung Knox?
Have you tried to use Android Work Profile only to find out that "Your custom OS" does not allow it even if you reverted to stock and unrooted? (I know, right?)
Here is the solution...
Steps
Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP.
(Thanks dr.ketan and geiti94)
Install the Dev-Base ROM and force Encryption by using the Dev-base ROM file name tags/triggers. (Thanks _alexndr)
Upon booting for the first time, setup pin with the checkbox for booting with pin protection. (This is full device Encryption).
Reboot
Enable Multi User (Samsung has disabled this by default)

Enable multi-user feature on your Android one phone (running Android 5.1 Lollipop) without flashing .zip through custom recovery. All you need is root access.
Just go to /system , edit your "build.prop" file and add the following lines:
fw.max_users=3
fw.show_multiuserui=1
Save and reboot your phone. Done! Tested on Micromax Canvas A1.

Add another user in settings>accounts.
Switch to second user and add your work account.
Make sure not to use any app that removes full device encryption. (Example: bxActions)
I've done this on my own device (SM-960F/DS) and it works great!
Let me know if anyone had success with any other ways to do this. I'm always open to suggestions.
Reserved for updates and alternatives
Thanks a lot for this guide! However, unless I'm missing something here, this method doesn't create an actual work profile, but a rather a seperate user on the device that's devoted just for the G Suite account (as adding my G Suite account on the sub user does not even prompt me to create a Work Profile). On my current device, ZTE Axon 7, where I can use work profile version and my personal gmail app side by side as if they are two separate apps, instead having to switch user account.
And of course, I can just add my G Suite account to my main user since I guess I'll trade a bit of my privacy from corporate IT for convenience sake. On the other hand I wonder if @_alexndr can consider enabling this feature in DevBase...
Or use an app like Nine (by 9Folders) that enforces Exchange Security at the app level and doesn't require the device to be secure.
Or you can use Exchained to bypass the policy entirely for Exchange based BYOD policies.

I'm pretty sure this thread is about G Suite and Android work profile and not the Microsoft's stuff?

No, it is about Android Work profile.
Microsoft Itunes use Work profile
G Suite Idk use work profile
But All MDM use work profile since android 9 ( maybe 8)
This thread should be on every samsung device. Because the issue is caused by knox.
Would this work for my Samsung A70. Really looking for a answer.
I'm confused. So which option should I choose out of the above replies and OP's suggestion? I want to have my work account on my personal device. But my phone is rooted, Knox triggered.
"island" is the app you are looking for
Updated long back but still works pretty fine.
Try "island" from playstore
Not updated from quite long but will do the job.

I installed Island and its gives me "cannot create work profile" error. Tried to setup Island with root, and I got stage 1 error.
Remove knox
Knox uses the same method as island to create work profile. Try installation after removing Knox.
Is possible i use in n950f? i lost the work profile installing the rom deluxe, and i need to work.
Hey Guys, i also have a fresh rooted and with custom rom installed Samsung (S10e but i assume the model doesn't matter for this topic).
I also have a GSuite account from my company and don't get it managed to istalla work profile on my phone.
Just getting a error that i use an modified ROM and therefore a work profile cannot be installed.
I know such similar issues from my pixel 3 where i just use Magisk hide which unfortunately don't work on the Samsung.
Also tried exchained and Island app (cannot be installed) which also don't really work.
For me the app Island work!!! Really thanks i use deluxe Room in note 8.
But the add a icon in initial menu the icon os the same, dont haver a small bag BLUE in bottom

can you share how you did this? which MDM solution are you using?
Maybe he can fix the job profile just like patching the security folder, so that he can work on the device that Knox tripped over! There will always be incompatibility when setting the island!

This is only a multi-user mode, and has nothing to do with the work profile!

Could you share with us how you managed that ?
I myself am unsuccessful installing Island because the work profile cannot be created....
I have a Galaxy Tab A (SM-T580) WI-FI only tablet that was recently upgraded to Android 8.1.0 by Samsung. I know that many people root their devices to gain complete control over the device and that rooting will allow you to remove the Samsung Bloatware on the device. That being said i wonder if there's a way to remove this bloatware short of rooting the device? If not, I'm concerned that the rooting methods might not be compatible after my tablet was recently updated. I'm also concerned about the complexity of the rooting process as I'm not technically savvy and the last thing I want to do is turn my tablet into a brick.
My main concern is that there is so much bloatware on this device that I never use that now I'm unable to install new apps that I do want without removing other apps I do use and want to keep. Note that I have already moved the apps I can to my SD card and I'm still short on application storage.
Can I please get some advance on what direction I can take? Thanks.
Play store has some stuff . . .
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=bloatware&c=apps&hl=en
One of them might work . . .
.
Might.

OK several points. Firstly there is no point in removing system apps, you will gain absolutely nothing.
It's better to simply disable them and you don't need root to do this.
Second you cannot install apps to the system partition unless you have root so in no way is this affecting you installing other apps.
Lastly it is highly unlikely that you will turn your device into a brick by rooting . It's not really possible as it's simply a software hack that is easily removed.
Your best tool is research before you root.
