After connecting my Galaxy Note to the TV to watch some shows, the phone won't charge in the cradle any more. The phone only charges when plugged directly from mains or USB.
There is nothing wrong with the cradle, I have inadvertently changed the settings on the note.
Can anyone suggest what I can do.

When I first got the phone earlier this week, I could plug it into the charger in the wall just fine with no issues, it would just charge. Now suddenly it started telling me USB connected and goes to the MTP screen and of course locks up the phone.
I can of course bypass this by switching the phone to mass storage mode, but since I have Kies and use it occasionally, it would be nice to not have to switch that setting each time depending on my charging/syncing situation.
Why would it have not locked it up with the MTP screen originally when charging from the wall but now it does? The results are the same whether its plugged into the wall or the USB port on the computer. I have two Captivates bought brand new on a family plan, both do this now with any combination of chargers and USB cables, wall USB port, or car charger. Neither one has a common application installed since the other is my girlfriends who hasnt done much to it yet, so Im blaming the phone itself for now...

Interesting. I just checked with my BB charger and they dont do it using that charger, but they do it as soon as I connect the stock charger again.
Im wondering if its a voltage sensing circuit thats tripping due to the different voltages which should be applied - either wall charger or USB port. Maybe for some reason my wall chargers arent putting out enough voltage and its thinking its a USB port, but the BB charger is putting the right amount of voltage out?
Am I on base as to how it differentiates between wall or USB port? The number of pins obviously doesnt matter as all the cables have all the pins in them, unlike some charger cables which only have the power and ground. The only thing I can think of is that it uses the amount of voltage/current to tell the difference and create its reaction.

Sounds like a problem with the stock charger, maybe usb cable alignment. My iphone wall adapter does this with the samsung cable but the samsung wall adapter doesn't, same with my car charger from att. Also I have a $5 walmart car charger that has a cable that splits into both a mini usb and a micro usb that isn't a real usb cable, it's charge only. That cable has no problem on any wall or car adapter. I believe the phone detects if its connected by checking voltage on a data pin (just a guess really) so if a nonstock charger is used it assumes that it is a computer. But it may also be a data signal that is given off by the charger.

did you try a new charger and if so, did it work? I've had my captivate since Thursday and on Thursday it charged and everything fine, but then yesterday,
a) no computer I connect it to while recognize it, no matter what I have it set too and have latest drivers installed
b) if I charge it, after I unplug it, it locks up to black screen and I have to remove the battery to get it to work
c) I also have an in-dash touchscreen monitor in my car that has a usb port because it works with an ipod. I plugged the usb into to use it as a car charger, unplugged it, same thing
d) it did say usb connected after it was unplugged, but I switched from mass storage to ask on connection and it went away
so is an actual wall charger the solution?

and now I unplug it, and if it locks, it will not unlock, just black screen
I have to take out the battery and then only way to get it to turn back on, is to plug it back in the wall

^^^Ouch that's not right, if you can't figure it out you may need to re-flash or just bring it back under warranty, or insurance

So I had my Thrill charging by being connected to one of the USB ports. And suddenly it stopped charging and the phone will not charge at all despite being plugged into a wall unit or a laptop.
Any suggestions short of replacing the phone?
I have a Captivate with AOKP m5. I can not get the phone to charge while in the car dock. The phone recognizes the dock; as soon as I plug it in the phone goes into car mode. I know the charger works. I was able to charge fine while using a gingerbread ROM.
Does this seem like a ROM issue, ICS issue, or kernel issue? I'm not really sure what tells the phone to charge, etc.
Any ideas?
The car charger that came with my phone does not charge it too, the red light turn on, but the phone does not recognize, the connection feels loose.
But the charger from my Samsung Jet (same connector) works ok, and the connection is not loose at the other charger, it's almost firm.
Both chargers are generic.
I would try another charger.
Ok, i searched the S3mini forum for this problem, but nothing exactly came up...
So, since few days ago, my phone does not recognize the wall charger when i plug it in...However it recognizes the USB cable to PC just fine and i can charge that way, but it takes allot longer...the interesting part is that, while charging and connected to PC, if i take off the USB to PC cable and put the wall charger right away, then it recognizes it and charges fine...its like the phone have forgotten the wall charger and it needs to be reminded through USB to PC cable first so it can recognizes it
The problem started the same day when a friend was visiting me and he used my wall charger to charge his phone(older low-end samsung phone), so is it possible he broke the wall charger somehow? but then again the wall charger works when i do the trick above...
Should i go to a store and buy a new wall charger? and since i dont have any samsung centre anywhere near me, im gonna be forced to buy a probably good quality wall charger with 0.7A output, but no samsung original...i dont wanna screw up my battery and i need the wall charger since i travel alot and dont have PC near me most of the time
Oh and if i shut down the phone and connect the wall charger, well then that white circle that shows first, it stays there for alot longer time then usual and then it shows the battery indicator and charges normally...damn technology this days

Hi,
if PC USB is loading normal and the wall charger doesn't this sounds like your wall charger does not have enough power. Buy a more quality one and your problem should be solved.
So i am having this problem, wonder if anyone else is also. I reported it to samsung.
The problem is when using a car charge my phone will say charging like normal. BUT then it will says "powering connected usb device".
It will say this the whole time it is charging.
Its a 5v 2amp charger i am using a micro usb cable with the included usb c adapter.
I use the this same charger for my s7 edge without problems.
Now the kicker here. Once i unplug the note 7 from the charger it will keep to saying "powering connected usb device"
The battery icon will flip between the power out icon and normal battery.
The first time it did i had to reboot the phone so it would stop.
The next time it went away after a few minutes.
I havent try using a usb c cable, but will later today.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Its probably OS related or have something to do with the adapters.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem
The included micro-usb-to-usbc adapter seems to inhibit the charging speed. I used the adapter with an official Samsung Micro USB cable that came with my Note 5 and plugged it into a Samsung fast charger and the charging takes forever... Maybe you're experiencing a similar symptom?

Its possible. Today i drove for about 20mins and i didnt have this problem. It charged but only went up 3% more. I should of gotten at lest 5-6% with that charger (amount i would of gotten with my s7 edge, same charger in cable)
I will do a test today with the usb c cbale plug right into the usb adapter. I only have the one for the time being
Well the problem is still here.
My wife gotnher phone and the same thing.
She needed to charger her phone.
Plug it up and it says chaning connected usb device. Just stays on the screen for a while then goes away.
Now we got out the car and turn the car off.
Then phone lit up and says powering conntect usb device. Then my rasio started to boot up and ended up in a boot loop as long as the phone was connected.
So thephone was trying to power my car through the usb charger.
This is something samsung should fix asap. There should be an option to turn this off.
Ill have another chat with samsung
